Best Ice Cream Shops in San Jose and the South Bay Area | Eater SF

"The smell of waffle cones is a sure sign that Salt and Straw is near, and most ice cream fanatics would deem it a must-try. Founded in 2011 by cousins Kim and Tyler Malek, Salt and Straw started as a push cart in Portland, Oregon and now has 27 locations along the West Coast and in Miami. With new flavors launching each month, Salt and Straw relies on housemade add-ins and partners with local producers to source specialty ingredients. From the list of classic flavors, the sea salt with caramel ribbons threads ribbons of hand-burned caramel, while Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is made with the same malt used to brew amber ale." - Cathy Park

World Famous Hotboys Opens Their Scorching Chicken Sandwich Shop This Month | Eater SF

"Opening its fifth Bay Area location at San Jose’s Westfield Valley Fair in March 2020, Portland-based small-batch creamery Salt & Straw is expanding its 19-location chain; I also learned that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Dany Garcia have announced an investment, praising the company’s commitment to connecting with local communities through storytelling and creativity." - Eve Batey

Google
I recently visited Salt & Straw for the first time and decided to try their Coffee & Love Nuts flavor—and I’m so glad I did! Every bite was packed with rich coffee ice cream and delightful clusters of chocolate-covered nuts that added the perfect crunch and sweetness. It was a fun and flavorful combination that really stood out. Salt & Straw is known for their variety of unique and inventive flavors, making it a great spot for anyone looking to try something different from the typical scoop shop. Another bonus: they offer pints to go, so if you fall in love with a flavor (like I did), you can take some home and enjoy it later. Overall, I’d give my visit a solid 4 out of 5 stars. Can’t wait to come back and try more flavors!

Google
Go-to ice cream stop in the South Bay. Great selection of flavors, with some expected staples + many unique rotating options. Good selection of vegan options (and not just sorbets!), which is noted on the menu itself. Gluten free options are not noted on the menu board, but easily accessible online, where full ingredient lists are also provided. Great for those with allergies or intolerances.

Google
First time visiting a Salt & Straw and it was so good!! You can taste lots of things before choosing and prices are on par with other boutique creamery brands. I really enjoyed the summer berry seasonal flavors!

Google
The ice cream tasted good and the unique flavor selections are a delight. But it was really expensive. I like that they let you put whipped cream on it even though the charge was kind of high

Google
A really open space Salt and Straw in Valley Fair. The service has always been pretty friendly for me. The staff doesn't get irritated when you ask for multiple samples and always put in their two cents about the flavors they can't get enough of or find missing an extra oomph! On the weekends, there is usually a line, especially at night but it moves fairly fast. They are an organized and efficient bunch. I like how they have seasonal flavors. I am terribly invested in the holiday flavors for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. My favorites have been a turkey ice cream with crispy organic rotisserie chicken skin and duck fat, as well as a sweet potato and cranberry ice cream with cornbread chunks. They do have all the funky flavors like bone marrow ice cream that I am always dying to try but every flavor doesn't taste hit all the notes it promises, like a fancy beer. It is still one of my favorite salt & straw locations and they do sell pints if you are looking for better value.

Google
Ice cream is delicious, service still good, but please turn on the AC, it so hot inside the ice cream shop, it's not a healthy environment for your staff.

Google
This place may be a chain, but the service is WAY better than some of the other non-chain ice cream places I've been to, and the ice cream is WAY better than them too. Normally, I see this place packed with people and long lines, and this was the RAREST moment I've never seen a line at ANY Salt & Straw, I had to take advantage of it!!! 🤤🍨 YES! It was GREAT! So come on a random weekday, and enjoy this goodness like a KING on top of a mountain!

Google
Salt And Straw like the name makes everything from scratch. One should definitely try the ice cream flight so that they can have different flavours all at once. Like the name, each icecream has an endnote of salt, which I highly appreciated since it cuts the rich otherwise sweetness of the icecream. They have some unique flavours like olive oil or pear and brie. Take a leap and try a new flavour! They change the flavours monthly? (I'm not too sure) So you'll always have something new to try

Yelp
I've always tried the locations in SoCal, and with so many food options in this area, I haven't gotten the chance to try this spot until recently. The store is set in an outdoor area with plenty of seating. Going in and out and getting my ice cream took around 10 minutes. Those space is small, so there was often a line out the door. I was able to try many samples. At this time, their special flavors were all related to beer. My friend was a big fan of them. I tried the traditional flavors though. I ended up going with one that surprised me, the blue cheese and pear ice cream. I'm a huge fan of pear and I loved the pear chunks, and I also love blue cheese (on my chicken wings); the funky flavor surprised me with how much I liked the balance of the two. You can't go wrong with the lavender flavor either. The olive oil as well as the Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavors were interesting too. Service was exceptional! I'd come back.

Yelp
There was a long line on Thursday night but it moves quickly. Love the ice cream here as it's very creamy and dreamy and delicious! The staff is friendly and you can sample whatever you'd like They also have some interesting flavors that you wouldn't find elsewhere. The seasonal flavors this time around were beer themed though i didnt give any of them a try My go-to here is always the honey lavender but on occasion i'll have a classic vanilla or the pear blue cheese Give this place a try, it's worth the wait!

Yelp
Back again for the May 2024 flavors! I sampled all the flavors and here are my thoughts: - Pistachio with saffron and rose: Ok pistachio flavor but couldn't really taste saffron or rose. - Rhubarb with anise: Creamy and flavorful. Love the crumble. Anise is not that strong, which is good. - Jasmine milk tea stracciatella: Tastes just like milk tea + stracciatella! - Spinach cake with chocolate fudge: Definitely interesting. Spinach flavor isn't too strong although the fudge was good. - Malted chocolate barley: Very chocolatey and great for those who want rich chocolate. Always great service from the friendly staff here! Super nice and quick too.

Yelp
I was always hesitant to try, I thought it was too expensive but finally tried the first time a few weeks ago.Prices are not that much more than other ice cream places. I got the lavender honey flavor. I'm hooked on this flavor! I bought a pint on my visit today because so whenever I'm craving ice cream I have it on hand at home. See you again soon!

Yelp
At the time I first came, they weren't doing any samples, and I got the coffee cold brew cookie dough. It tasted like it had a salted cream base with cookie dough and brownie. It was good, but quite heavy. I've also tried honey lavender, which is one of their staple flavors. Despite not being a fan of floral ice creams, I actually liked this one. It wasn't overly floral and had a sweetness level that was more in line with my tastes. Overall, salt and straw always pushes the boundaries on flavors. I come back every now and then to try their seasonal flavors because they're unique. I will say that their ice creams tend to be very sweet for my tastes, which keep me from regularly visiting.

Yelp
Decided to get some ice cream here. This ice shop is a chain and can be found in a few places around the bay. The line was long but the staff did a great job of serving customers quickly. They were out of several of the seasonal flavors which was disappointing since that's what I was hoping for. They also have some unique/strange flavors if you feel adventurous. I ended up getting a double scoop in a waffle cone. I selected Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons and Cinnamon Snickerdoodle. The waffle cone was very fresh tasting and I liked the Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons. The Cinnamon Snickerdoodle was okay. A little too much cinnamon for my liking. I would definitely return to try other flavors.

Yelp
The flavors in this ice cream shop are very flavorful and unique. There are certain times of the day that the line is long but it's worth coming here. I say that this ice cream shop stands out because of how they handcrafted ice cream. I've begin to wonder what ingredients they use to make ice cream like this, because I have gotta admit that they did a good job in preparing them. There are much flavors I still need to try lol

Yelp
This is my second time at Salt & Straw and the service both times have been very welcoming. It's a small ice cream shop across from the Apple store with a variety of flavors. It's a great dessert spot to share with friends and walk around VF. They release monthly limited flavors which you can check on their website. This review is based on March's limited flavors but you can always ask to try any flavor in-store before buying! Pots of Gold & Rainbows (4/5): Lucky Charms flavored ice cream, a little sweet but still good. Cornflake Cookies w/ Marionberry Jam (4/5): Not my favorite because I don't like jam, but it tastes exactly like the name. Not too sweet and the cornflakes were good. OffLimits Zombie w/ Coconut and Pandan (4.5/5): I love pandan and coconut so this was my favorite. The only thing is that there's a slight aftertaste but the initial flavor is good.

Yelp
I'm feeling salty. Salt & Straw is a Portland-based ice cream company that has expanded all over the west coast. This is the 3rd location of theirs which I've tried. Although I would've preferred grabbing gelato inside Valley Fair proper, my friend was interested in trying the new February flavors, and I knew that I could +1 my Yelp review count anyway. This store is in a newer construction building with several restaurants. It's a pretty small storefront; they do not have seating or even anywhere elevated to stand with your ice cream. They do let you try samples before ordering, so I tasted all of the new flavors before making my decision. FYI, they are all chocolatey, and each flavor appears to be a collab with a different chocolatier. I went for a Double ($8.50) because it's only $2 higher than the single scoop ($6.50). I started with the Dandelion's Chocolate Nibs & Frangipane since the crunchy nibs were pretty addictive and the overall flavor was great. Then I ran into an issue with my bottom scoop, the Cloudforest's Cocoa Hazelnut Magic Sauce. I had sampled it and liked it, but didn't get a sensation of constant salt overload until I started digging into my order. I'm not sure whether it was a recipe or execution issue, but that was just way too rough, so I ended up tossing most of the scoop. By the way, make sure to grab napkins before leaving. Although I chose a cup and it wasn't a very warm day, the melted ice cream started to overflow before I was done with the first scoop. Salt & Straw is usually pretty great if not awesome, but I had a suboptimal experience this time around. Hopefully next time will be better.

Yelp
I love that they push out new flavors often and have different themes. On this visit, I decided to try the Toasted Oat Milk and Cookie which turned out to be so yummy! The staffs here are very friendly and patient. Props to them for dealing with long lines often as they are located at Valley Fair and its always crowded.

Yelp
I was shopping at Valley Fair today and wanted some ice cream. For once, there was no line at Salt & Straw so I went in for a scoop. They have some very interesting flavors, and I like that you can try samples. I tried the honey lavender first, since this one sounds unique. The lavender taste was too strong for me. I then tried the pistachio one (the full name of the flavor is "Pistachio w/ Saffron & Rose Water") and it was very creamy. Had a nice pistachio flavor (not as nutty as usual) so I decided to go with this one. The scoop was fairly large (enough to share for 2 in my opinion). Overall, I would return to try their other flavors if I were shopping at Valley Fair. (If I were at Santana Row, I would still go to Smitten though). Enjoy!

Yelp
Such a good spot for a quick treat! The staff is always friendly and welcoming. They have unique and amazing flavors. It's typically busy but the like moves fairly fast.

Yelp
I heard about this place through a friend, it's worth a visit! They have very unique flavors and things you would not think to put together but come surprisingly well! You can even do half scoops, which is great so you can try multiple ones without having too much. I did the lavender/honey and the folded vanilla and loved it! The lavender is so good! I got to try a bunch of different flavors but the lavender was my favorite! The service was great. They were very knowledgeable about the flavors and had great suggestions. The location kind of threw me off trying to find it. I didn't realize it was outside, but there's plenty of seating outside of it. There's no place to sit inside it's definitely worth a try! I definitely want to come back and try more flavors!

Yelp
This ice cream tastes SO GOOD! The shop is very small but cute. The service was great. The line was out the door but they got through everyone pretty quickly. I ordered the vegan mint chocolate chip (or something like that hehe) and it was delicious. I will most certainly be back for more vegan flavors
google avatar

Akshta A.

Yelp
The cereal series was so good. My favorite was the Pots of gold and rainbow. There seasonal flavors are very innovative
google avatar

Jo P.

Yelp
Hands down their coffee and love nuts is one of my favorites. I really enjoy the coffee flavor and texture the nuts provide. I get this every single time. I also ordered freckled mint chocolate as well. It was more of a subtle and creamier flavor of mint. The chocolate chips were a little bigger than I had at other places but I think that added to the subtle of the mint and I really enjoy the chocolate flavor. The staff was very patient with our group as we sampled several flavors. We came more towards end of night and it wasn't overly crowded. Great spot to end the night and right next to the restrooms!
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Salt & Straw is one of my favorite ice cream places. Their ice cream flavors are very yummy and interesting! My two go-to favorites are ooey gooey chocolate brownie and honey lavender. I always enjoy sampling the different unique flavors though. Service is always friendly, and the cones are soo good! There's usually a line, but it moves pretty fast. :)
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Seriously such a unique ice cream experience. The flavors here are none like i've ever seen. I wish I could just come here to sample each and every one! I shared a double scoop with the top being salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough, the bottom was a salted cinnamon basque cheesecake flavor (not sure the exact name) and it was so good! Never knew I'd enjoy such savory flavors in an ice cream but it mended so well with the sweetness of the ice cream. The salted malted chocolate one was good too but a bit too sweet for my palette. I also sampled a couple other flavors like honey lavender but I wish I got to try more! Didn't want to hold up the line though. Service was pretty good. The workers put up with all the customers asking for tons of samples. The shop is a grab and go location.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Great ice cream parlor to try unique flavors. The staff is really friendly and will invite you to sample their flavors. The samples they give are on mini metal spoons which is also pretty unique. We got the caramel apple sorbet and Marionberry coconut sorbet. Both were very flavorful and delicious. The caramel apple sorbet actually tastes like caramel apple. The Marionberry coconut sorbet was slightly sour and the Marionberry overpowered any coconut flavor. Can't wait to try more of their flavors!
google avatar

Reeven S.

Yelp
There is consistently a long line at Salt and Straw especially at this location, and it's definitely worth the wait. Their ice cream flavors are unique and incredibly delicious! I ordered a scoop of their Arbequina Olive Oil and was pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was. The ice cream itself isn't overly sweet, which I appreciated. It possesses that delicate, slippery texture of olive oil. This might be a bit unconventional for some, but I highly recommend giving it a try, or simply asking for a taste from the staff. I've also ordered their Honey Lavender flavor awhile ago, which was incredibly refreshing with its flowery aromatics. They offer seasonal flavors and it's always something my friends and I love to check out. The price for a single scoop is nearly $6, but it's absolutely worth trying!
google avatar

Melissa S.

Yelp
Great ice cream with so many unique flavors! They are great about giving you a taste of any and all and will let you do split scoops as well. I got the Cornflake cookie and Marionberry jam and the pots of gold and rainbows. I also tasted the olive oil. They were all delicious! The staff was so friendly and nice and patient as we decided. The store was clean, bright and well organized. I wish there was a Salt and Straw near me!
google avatar

Ashish K.

Yelp
It's one place where you will always find good vegan flavors. They pay attention to the experience and service. The location at valley fair is great, there are tables to sit back and enjoy your ice cream!
google avatar

Yelp
I am not one to shy away from trying new food and every single time I pass by this place and want to try it I already have something cold and icy in my hands. Sigh. But on this lucky day I had nothing and walked in to check this place out. FINALLY. I've never seen the menu and honestly have no idea what concept of ice cream / frozen yogurt they sell. I waited to be helped and looked at the menu. Once it was my turn I asked if they offered samples and she said yes as many as you'd like. I tried probably 6 flavors and had a hard time committing to a flavor because they were not a personal preference for me. Note that the flavors were not for me not that they were bad. I finally settled for the honey lavender which sounds cool. Lavender always reminds me of soap. I paid and I went to go sit outside. I got one scoop and it did have a strong lavender taste but the more you eat it the less taste of it you get. Lady was super patient letting me try all the flavors. Also helped that there was no line. The inside is clean and neat. Flavors are interesting. Not your normal flavor combinations. Definitely not my flavor profiles since it was so hard for me to pick a flavor if any and that's okay. Nice to have finally tried it.
google avatar

Whitney M.

Yelp
Nom nom nom nom. I love how they use reusable silverware for tasting to help reduce waste. The staff members are nice and attentive. My son enjoyed his scoop of the chocolate gooey brownie and I had gotten the coffee and love milkshake.
google avatar

Jacqueline D.

Yelp
I stopped by for dessert after eating at Valley Fair, the line wasn't too long ...just 6 ppl in front and it went very quickly. Once you're inside they're very helpful with questions and/or samples. I hadn't been to S&S for a minute so I was curious about several flavors and I was able to try all of them so I could decide. I got the Coffee with nuts and cinnamon snickedoodle(which always seems to be my default). I opted for a cup but usually would've gotten a cone, definitely get the cone if it's your first visit there!
google avatar

Sudesna M.

Yelp
One of my all time favorite ice cream places! Glad this one opened up closer to my place and I don't have to drive up to Palo Alto for their amazing ice cream. My go to flavors are the sea salt with caramel ribbons and coffee with love nuts. Rich, creamy, and velvety. You can't go wrong with these flavors. But their menu does offer multiple options including some seasonal and limited editions. No matter which flavor you try, I'm sure this place won't disappoint. This location is in Valleyfair mall right in front of the Apple store. There is plenty of seating options outside plus some play areas where you can enjoy your ice cream. But it's a very popular spot so be prepared for the wait. The lines are usually long but believe me it's worth the wait. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times, and each time has been great. Today, I couldn't decide on the four flavors. Limited Time Flavors: Pumpkin Spiced Tiramisu: "spiced coffee ice cream, sweetened with maple syrup, cinnamon, clove, and ginger. Give it a tiramisu cake swirl. Drizzle in coffee mascarpone and top with chocolate stracciatella." Pinot Poached Pear Sherbet: Pears in Pinot Noir blended with classic Double Fold Vanilla ice cream. Chocolate Plum & Hazelnut Shortbread: Sweet coconut cream and plums. Hazelnut shortbread and plum marmalade. Last Chance Scoops: Sour Cherry Pie: It's "studded with chunks of pie crust in a salted vanilla ice cream. The almond flour crust carries a delicate pop of flavor, and we hand-candy the cherries with splash of amaretto." Unfortunately, they ran out of sample spoons. So, I couldn't try any. The person serving me said, "Go with the Pumpkin Spiced Tiramisu or Sour Cherry Pie." I couldn't decide. My wife ordered a double scoop. So, she loves the Chocolate Gooey Brownie. My split scoop was the Pumpkin Spiced Tiramisu and Sour Cherry Pie. Both flavors were good! However, the Sour Cherry Pie was hands down my favorite!
google avatar

Yuki K.

Yelp
Ice cream is creamy and great quality but I didn't really taste the flavors that they were supposed to be. We ordered a double scoop for $8.50 and chose the special flavors for both. We could have sampled first but there was a bit of a line in the evening so we chose not to. 1. Chocolate potato salad Mostly just tasted like chocolate and had unseasoned potato pieces in it. My throat was a bit tingly from the mustard seed even though I didn't even taste mustard (and am not allergic to it as far as I know). 2. Cinnamon and honey fried chicken Faint cinnamon taste but not that strong. There were breaded chicken pieces that my SO said was salty. My salt tolerance is a bit too high so it wasn't that salty to me. SO gave it four stars. Three stars from me.
google avatar

Florence A.

Yelp
Cinnamon Snickerdoodle is the BEST thing here, IMHO. I'm sure there are other good flavors. There are some interesting ones, like the one with Olive Oil and then the Turkey and Cranberry Stuffing ice cream - even choices with lavender in them. Whatever. I always go back to my favorite. And their house made waffle cones are a MUST. Thank you, ice cream gods!
google avatar

Aster H.

Yelp
Salt and Straw delivering at their usual (good) quality! I went on a week day so there was no line at all--weekends can get busy. The seasonal goat cheese marionberry habanero is hands down one of the best ice creams I've gotten from a chain store. I find most of Salt&Straw ice creams to be too sweet and a little lacking in flavor, but this one was a little more complex in flavor profile with a bit of savory from the goat cheese and heat from the habanero. I hope they bring this one or something similar back!
google avatar

Cecilia M.

Yelp
Visited this location in December! There was a bit of a wait, but service was smooth and friendly. This is a take-out location only! With outdoor entrance -- not inside the mall. They had lots of flavours to choose from. I bought a pint to bring home: the Salted, Malted Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough! It was delicious!
google avatar

Dorothy B.

Yelp
Located outside of the West Field Mall No indoor seating Public outdoor seating Visit: Thursday, August 2023 before 4pm No line upon arrival then a long line grew behind us Ice Cream Ordered: -Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons (single scoop) Good amount for a single scoop, filling if you are already full but still wanted dessert -Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (kids scoop) Perfect amount if you still have space for some dessert We prefer the taste & flavor of this over the first one Both were very creamy and flavorful. We had a few samples and the flavors were unique but not to our liking Service: Staff was pleasant, did not feel rushed to decide given the line forming behind us

Yelp
We recently discovered Salt & Straw just a few weeks ago at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, and were pretty excited to find one in San Jose! My hubby & I had just finished picking up a few things at Eataly and were standing outside only to realize that there was the same ice cream shop that we fell in love with at Disneyland, and it was just a stone's throw from where we were standing! It was around 11am but my mind made the executive decision that it's never too early for ice cream, especially if it's Salt & Straw! What we love about this shop is that they offer vegan ice cream, and not just icy sorbet types, but creamy, delicious & flavorful plant-based ice cream flavors like Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip (my fave!) and Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge! Their other flavors are all really unique and intriguing as well. Fun fact: Salt & Straw is partially owned by The Rock! That's right Dwayne Johnson...so if it's good enough for The Rock, it's good enough for everyone! ;) Gotta give a huge shoutout to Juan, who was working around 11am on 11/24/23. He's the type of person you would want working at a fancy ice cream shop like this: friendly, welcoming, fun to talk to (we chatted all about Disneyland haha!), and gave the best customer service experience! Thank you, Juan! So definitely check this place out - you'll scream for ice cream!

Kaneesia Kamil C.

Yelp
Long line when we went but this is with every Salt&Straw. Loved their pistachio with saffron and rose water special. Workers are always so patient with customers as well since we all want to try their flavors! No seating on the inside but love the complex that it's in! Plenty of seats outside.
google avatar

Juliet T.

Yelp
This is secretly (not so secret anymore) my go-to ice cream spot for pints of ice cream!! I like how most of Salt & Straw's ingredients are minimal and familiar, with no random additives! Salt & Straw has both classic flavors and themed flavors for each month. I always lean toward the themed flavors since it's limited for that month! But if I'm not feeling the new flavors, my go-to classic flavor is usually the Sea Salt w/ Caramel Ribbons or Salted, Malted, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!
google avatar

Katie D.

Yelp
Honey lavender ice cream is amazing. The floral is so complex, sweet, and floral. This is my go to place for lavender ice cream, since it is harder to find. I have tried other flavors and they are good as well. The staff is very friendly when it comes to doing samples here.
google avatar

Sarah C.

Yelp
tried the limited edition flavors: peanut butter brownie cereal puffs, cornflake cookies w marionberry jam. the latter was quite melty and soft compared to the former, but both were balanced well and I loved the chunks of cereal!
google avatar

Yelp
Went to Salt & Straw today after trying out the new udon restaurant Marugame Udon. My bf and I were craving for dessert so we decided to check this place out since it had pretty decent reviews. We were given samples of their 3 most popular: sea salt with caramel ribbons, honey lavender, and jasmine milk tea. We decided to go for the sea salt with caramel ribbons. The first bite was good but the bites after that, we didn't enjoy it at all. It was overly sweet, not really salty like you'd expect. The service was good, lady was sweet. Ambiance was very quiet and there was no one inside. The pricing for the one scoop is pretty expensive though. $6.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
We went to Salt & Straw last night for dessert. I've actually been to various locations and this one multiple times. They make very high quality ice cream and in very non-traditional flavors. Personally, I've had the "Coffee & Love Nuts", "Peanut Butter Brittle Caramel Fudge", "Freckled Mint Chocolate Chip", and "Toasted Oat Milk & Cookies". Personally, these are all delicious and would have them again and again. They are pretty liberal with regards to tasting. We were behind two young ladies last night and I swear they tasted every single flavor! I think this is great though because there are some that may not sound too good but may be very appealing such as "Strawberry Honey Balsamic w/Black Pepper" or "Arbequina Olive Oil". Anyway, expect to wait in line when you arrive. It's like that even in the winter! However, it typically goes very quickly so remember the saying that "good things come to those who wait."
google avatar

Amber B.

Yelp
I love Salt & Straw. I remember when I was in college, I stopped by the nearest location on my hardest days for a little pick me up or when I did well on exams. I'll always be a customer here! :)
google avatar

Jessica V.

Yelp
I'm not sure if it was the flavors I chose but I thought the ice cream was okay. I got a split scoop with Cinnamon Snickerdoodle and Red Velvet Cake w/ Cream Cheese Frosting. The Cinnamon Snickerdoodle was very cinnamon-y but I liked how there were snickerdoodles incorporated to make the ice cream thicker. The Red Velvet flavor was pretty good but the cake bits were dry. One thing that I thought was super cool was that you can request to spray perfumes on your ice cream! I didn't try that this time but thought that was really unique. I'll probably come back to try their other seasonal flavors. Also, the workers were very nice and friendly!

Yelp
This is a review of the monthly flavors from March 2023! I love the unique variety of flavors that Salt & Straw offers so I recommend going for their monthly flavors instead of their usual ones. I got a scoop of offlimits zombie pandan coconut and the Rum custard with Raisin bran shortbread on a waffle cup cone. I recommended asking for a double scoop with an extra cup because its less expensive than getting 2 single scoops. I loved the pandan coconut scoop because not only was it vegan ( I am very lactose intolerant) but it still had that creamy ice cream texture. The rum custard scoop was good but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

Yelp
I like to come here with my girl Jennifer L. cuz she loves Ice Cream and quite frankly so do I. And ya know, every single other person on the planet. Well, probably people who are severely Lack Toast In Tolerant might have a different say, but they would still probably LOOOOVE this place. Trust me guys, IT'S WORTH IT! It's worth the pain! I actually just found out from my Boi Brando (not Marlon R.I.P. big man, love you) that he is intolerant in a very different way - he breaks out like hell. I cannot even fathom this. Seems more like a legitimate allergy to lactose. I should call him up and ask him about that, cuz that blooooows. I always just thought you got super gassy and started sharting nonstop, but I guess it gets worse than that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ whaddya gonna do, eh?! Anyway - Lavender Honey is my go-to. Obviously. Sheesh, such a slut for lavender... LuvYa ;)

Yelp
Went for the first time after eating Pizza Antica with my friends and it was a really good atmosphere. The person that helped us was Lupe and she was very attentive and made the experience great! I thought this was just gonna be another ice cream shop but the service was amazing which is why I will be coming back. Our ice cream was great and shout out Lupe for having amazing customer service. Salt & Straw earned a new regular

Yelp
This was one of my favorite ice cream places in the bay. We went on mothers day and has at least 20 min queue. Ordered a kid's scoop of vanilla and regular two scoops sea salt caramel/strawberry in a waffle cup. Surprised that their ice cream is sweeter now compared before and also noticed that the size have gotten smaller. Paid $28 for it and asked for a receipt but she said they dont print receipts??? What kind of store doesn't print a receipt? Not worth the price.

Yelp
I'm always looking forward to try Salt & Straw's novel flavors. I got a flight to share with friends. Our favorite was baked brie and fig cheesecake. The scoops were so creamy, especially olive oil. I wish the black pepper was more apparent in the strawberry honey balsamic, but it was still enjoyable. Staff are friendly and patient.

Yelp
Salt & Straw is one of my favorite ice cream shops. I love how there are always seasonal flavors and different locations may have specialty flavors for their region. There is normally a line for Salt & Straw. However, the line moves quickly. The workers are always friendly and don't mind when you're trying multiple flavors to decide which one to buy. I never feel rushed. You enter through one door to order & get your ice cream and walk through the exit when you're done. If you're only buying pints, you can bypass the line and grab one from their freezer & go to cash register.

Yelp
Pro tip: next time you go sampling some ice cream, stop when you've found your tastebuds humming! I sampled all 5 limited edition flavors of the season and decided to go with Guanabana. Now if you're like me who has no clue about this tropical fruit, let me offer you some wise words about this sophisticated fruit. Guanabana as a fruit has been described as a combination of strawberries and apple with sour citrus flavor notes, contrasting with an underlying thick creamy texture reminiscent of banana. So--all that flavor in one dollop of ice cream can either be a hit or a miss. For me, unfortunately, it was the latter. I liked the sampled flavor but when I decided to go with the single scoop cup, I was left underwhelmed. No offense to S&S, they are great. The line was a bit long to get to the counter but moved swiftly. Next time, you want to trust your gut and stay in your comfort zone if you feel less adventurous with your palate.

Yelp
It was my first time grabbing some ice cream from here. We had lunch at the mall and picked some ice cream to go. Plenty of selections and options. One way in the store and one way out. It was easy to order and pay. You can tell the ingredients were fresh. I Highly recommend getting ice cream from here.

Yelp
My last time at this salt and straw. It's heavy and just not tasty. The salted malted chocolate chip cookie dough that I usually like just disappointed in taste.
