I really wanted to like this place. Our first experience here is that they spent too much time on decor and not enough on teaching basics. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't good. Best possible version of my take is that the place has potential but we didn't get the A Team staff on a Monday at 5:30pm, when the restaurant was basically empty.
Play by play: Hostess was nice, even though I accidentally stepped on her foot while we were being seated. Sorry, again! Server was nice, but treated us awkwardly and seemed very inexperienced. We ordered sodas, an appetizer, an old fashioned, and two entrees. The app came out: chicken and andouille eggrolls. This was definitely the highlight, well made, flavorful, a bit of spice, with a great mustardy sauce. I wish I'd ordered a second one. We cleared that plate, and 30 minutes in our cocktail hadn't arrived. The server came by to check, I asked, and she confirmed that she forgot to ring it in, so we cancelled that order. The entrees came out: Blackened Mahi Mahi (they were out of the salmon we wanted first) and a Southern Burger. The risotto with the fish was good, and the fish was OK (although overcooked and dry). The burger and fries were sad. The bacon was great, but the rest was super salty, the fries came out cool and limp, and the burger patty was *charred black* (ordered MW). It was hard to finish the burger and we didn't finish the fish in house. The server asked 'together or separate?' for the check, which was the first time in a LONG time I'd been asked that question while out with my wife of 20 years. I said "together, thank you." A minute later, she brought separate checks. As we signed the bill, a manager came by, asking if *his* manager had come by. We said no. He then told us about a loyalty program and gave us business cards advertising their new happy hour. He didn't ask about the meal, or the service, or anything else.
The place is in a GREAT location, across from an AMC theater and free parking, in a bustling development at Madison Yards. I really wanted to like it. We didn't.
