If you appreciate great architecture, you need to check this building out.
The building itself is a marvel, both inside and out. This is, by far, the most modern and beautiful public library I have ever seen.
As soon as you walk in, you notice that you are inside a gorgeous, enormous atrium. There are windows allowing in natural light everywhere.
Even the elevators were well thought out. The elevators are glass and look out into the entrance/atrium area as you zoom up and down. You can (and should) take an elevator, or the stairs, to the roof. On the roof, you can stroll around and enjoy spectacular views of the city in all directions. There is even an area where you can sit and relax, again all on the rooftop.
You will notice, of course, the two active beehives located on the top level. There are enclosed--kind of--in a room, although the ceiling is only covered with a tarp so the bees can and will fly in and out now and then. From the floor downstairs, you can literally get up close and personal with these beehives, from behind the safety of glass windows, and honestly, I could probably watch this spectacle for hours. By the way, how many public libraries in the world have beehives in them?
Sure, like nearly all public libraries, there are a few homeless folks inside, some eating, some sleeping, whatever. They didn't bother me and I didn't bother them.
I know the library has books, because I saw them myself, so I am going to make a wild guess that the library is more than just an architectural gem. Regardless of whether you actually want to use the library's services, if you are at all interested in architecture, or active beehives, or spectacular views, or all of the above, come see this place.
