The 38 Best Restaurants in Taipei - Eater

"Taipei’s historic Datong district thrived in the early 20th century as a major harbor for merchant ships and their wares, but lost its luster as eastern sections of Taipei began to boom in subsequent decades. A recent revitalization of the district has led to a profusion of hip eateries, boutiques, and speakeasies springing up among the old dried-goods warehouses. Tucked behind the lush courtyard of an elegant stone mansion (fronted by the quaint bakery Salt Peanuts Cafe [鹹花生]), Peacock Bistro boasts a stunning bar lined with glass jars containing a myriad of infusions, mimicking the area’s traditional medicine shops. The menu features light dishes that wink at Taiwanese classics, like the delicate oyster fritter (a modern spin on traditional Taiwanese fried oysters), or fried chicken made with a sake- and peanut-infused batter. Cute little coffee place that serves lights meals besides home make delicious cakes and amazing coffees and other cool drinks, all around the theme salted peanuts. The peanut latte is quite amazing as as the cakes. Staff speaks English well and is fairly friendly. The sourdough bread on the menu is a little lie. Instead of them at they serve the typical and unfortunately boring white toast bread. Small portions and not very cheap but the taste makes it all good.

This cafe is located on one of the most historical street Dihua street in Taipei. The cafe itself is an old building with a shared courtyard with a bistro. The brunch number 4, which I ordered when visiting here, is a fusion of western style brunch with Chinese food. They also provide great coffee, especially their latte with peanut powder on top, which enhances the aroma of the coffee. However, the food and drinks are a bit pricey. That’s why I give this cafe 4 stars rather than 5.

Two of the cakes (salty peanuts cheese cake & lemon tart) we took out were both very passable and too pricey considering the size as well as the taste. The service wasn't fabulous (read the staff were kind of aloof) and it was too busy to get neither a seat nor a quiet moment (since there were tons of tourists in that area and only a few seats in the shop). P.S. Salty Peanuts Cafe was once my favorite cafe before it relocated. Therefore, it was more than disappointing to find out that it's not the same anymore.

Lovely cafe with a beautiful courtyard! I been coming back here several times and I in love with their banana cakes. This time I’ve ordered their new banana mocha cake and I was not disappointed. The cream was enriched with coffee flavor and the bananas in between just give the cake a little bit of tartness. I wish the coffee was a little bit bigger so it can last with the cake but it was still one of the best coffees in taipei.

Rolls are not bad, kind of signature bread here. Interior is modified from an old style house , pretty cool. Outdoor seating are pretty relaxing ..

Nice little cafe with a fantastic backyard! Great spot for a relaxing afternoon tea if you’re in the area. The bistro on the other side of the garden also looks nice.

The peanut roll is a must-try for peanut fans. The salt peanut cocoa is truly unique and amazing, but make sure you drink it while it's hot. The components of the salad were perfectly made and put together, making it absolutely delicious.

Excellent cafe ..good coffee and good food. Very nice court yard out back. The only downside is the staff are a little bit grumpy but you don't really need much from them and it is probabley the nest cafe on this drag.

Yelp
My folks and I stumbled upon 鹹花生 while strolling along Dihua Street, and looking through the menu at the door, we were quite intrigued that a majority of the hot beverages has peanuts incorporated in (okay, now is probably the time to point out if you have any peanut allergies, you may want to avoid this place! Haha...) Salty Peanuts offer a variety of hot and cold beverages, ranging from hand press and machine espresso, to kombucha and hot brew tea. The presentation of the beverages is also unique and the coffee art is lovely. I ordered a Peanut Latte, and they not only served it in a latte cup, but gave me the leftovers in a smaller espresso cup. Quite generous on their part! What really stood out for me about Salty Peanuts is not their coffee, but the Tieguanyin Tea Chiffon Cake we ordered. The outer layer cream was so light and fluffy, and the inner was soft and moist (sorry ladies, I had to use this word to describe it). The use of Taiwanese honey black beans on top for decorations was also brilliant. We really enjoyed this piece of delicately made Chiffon Cake. The coffee shop is small and intimate. There is also a quart yard in the back that connects to the Peacock Italian restaurant, which shares a restroom with Salty Peanuts. I am glad we found this cute café, and though the coffee did not make as much of an impression for me, the Chiffon Cake certainly did. I look forward to trying the well-talked about Cinnamon Rolls next time, as they were out during our visit.

Yelp
鹹花生 Haiku: Love cinnamon buns! Get a coffee and a bun! Love the area! Stumbled upon this place when discovering Dihua street a year or two back, and have been a staple when ever I am in the area. I love the cinnamon buns here, and the fact that Peacock bistro is hidden in the back is quite cool.

Yelp
Their coffee and cinnamon bun is a must-try! I ordered a cup of latte and my friend ordered a cup of black coffee... and it turned out surprisedly good! Will definitely come back for their dessert!

Yelp
I'm not a big sweets person. I get by with a square of dark chocolate for dessert. Having said that, I could totally eat three slices of cake here all for myself. They're the fluffy, not overly sweet variety. We got the lemon and the signature peanut one to share initially but had to go back for more after we devoured our original order. Salt Peanuts also serves a lot of unique made from scratch drinks. It's my favorite cafe after discovering it a couple summers ago! Cute indie shops abound in this neighborhood. Win win!

Yelp
It located in a very historical area and a ancient building. I'm a big fan of cinnamon roll. They provide very professional cinnamon roll and totally satisfied me.

Yelp
One of my favorite cafes in Taipei Cinnamon rolls are hard to find. Here is a little pricy, but one of the best. They have a beautiful view in the garden, if tables are available outside. The brown sugar latte is also wondetful. I've come back a few times for the cinnamon rolls and I love it ! I treasure in Dihua St.

Yelp
They serve excellent coffees, but do not provide sugar or milk. The server explained that the owner thinks coffee should be drunk only in "original flavor".
