Every time I come to this restaurant, I never have a bad experience. Everything is always amazing!! The oysters are always fabulous and the sides are always masterfully done, too! Great pink lemonade and sweet tea (it's just right for me). This time I got the Oysters Lafitte and asparagus. The Oysters Lafitte is wonderful! They were unique, perfectly cooked, juicy, flavorful, and the vinaigrette complimented the Oysters very much, and the asparagus was great too! And afterwards I had one of my favorite desserts off the menu which is their Cinnamon Roll Cheesecake, and let me tell you it is OUTRAGEOUSLY GOOD!!! It is so rich, decadent, and the textures of the cinnamon roll and the cheesecake compliment each other so well. It tastes like it is wrapped in a satin cinnamon dress and beautifully adorned with a pecan crumble and caramel.🤤😍😋🤎 I've also had their key lime tart which is also fantastic💚🤍 The service is always so sweet and accommodating. And the ambiance is so cool and kind of vintage. The only thing is it can be a bit cold in there. But other than that, everything is awesome.💙

Eclectic Southern fun place. Our waiter Hayden was amazing, happy and helpful. Food was excellent. I had the blue plate special red rice and beans with andouille and brussel sprouts with sweet potatoes blackened and a cream sauce. Y friends had the PO boy one catfish and one shrimp. Love this place. What a find.

The atmosphere and service are impressive. Traveling from out of town and this was our first visit. Our waitress was very pleasant, took time to answer questions, and helped us decide on the menu. The food was okay but everything had a twist that wasn’t quite expected. All and all would probably eat here again.

Google
The food was great. I like the eclectic items on the menu. I had the fried catfish with hush puppies and fries. It was fried perfectly. My companion has the brunch waffles which they says we're delicious.

Google
The food was amazing. I had two small plates - crawfish toast and crispy pork belly.

Love the food and service. The back patio and items on the table could be cared for better, also there are many flies! I’ve eaten there many times and the lunch items and oysters are my favorite. Brussels, Mac, oysters, salad, butter peas.. chicken sandwich. Can’t go wrong at lunch.

I travel for business and dine alone frequently. Almost without exception, the service for one person is substandard. This visit to Saltine was no exception. The hostess seated me at a two top that was in the path of waiters handling other sections. I was bumped by a waiter twice. The second bump caused me to slosh my cocktail, which had been served late, with apologies from my waiter. I placed an order for an appetizer of fried oysters along with an entree of fried catfish. Both came out at the same time, brought to me by hasty drive-by food-dropper, and not my waiter. I didn't see him again until I finally had to complain after what seemed like ten or fifteen minutes. My food had gone cold. I had finished the cocktail; needed more tartar sauce for the fish; and had hoped to order a beer with my entree. When the waiter finally showed up, now even more apologetic, he offered to bring more catfish, which had grown cold, along with more tartar sauce. I got a beer too. The manager took 20% off the bill, and I left a 15% tip in spite of the issues. It was saturday night and the restaurant was busy, but it wasn't that busy. I put myself through college tending bar and waiting tables, and this was not a packed house that might excuse this kind of neglect. The catfish and oysters were very good at Saltine, but the catfish didn't really equal what you can get at Cock of the Walk on the Reservoir for much less. There are too many other places to go, so I won't be back. Saltine is actually a chain but the other restaurants are named something else and have different types of cuisines. But it's definitely a chain, and on this evening, it behaved like one. Disappointing.

Deanna is a wonderful waitress and gave us wonderful recommendations! The Cinnamon roll cheesecake is a must order!

Yelp
My name is Mario and my first time eating and Saltines was June 2, 2024 at approximately 1:30 PM. My first time was absolutely phenomenal. The bartender Megan was just great. She served me quickly soon as I got in to the restaurant. She gave me her recommendation of the shrimp and grits, and they were just cooked with absolute perfection and she was knowledgeable of the meals. She was quick & speedy. She was able to take care of a lot of guests, plus myself with quickness, accuracy, and precision. And every guest in there, including myself, seemed very happy very satisfied with this young lady service. I would definitely come back and eat at Saltine and I would definitely come back and eat the same meal. I would definitely want Megan service again, so I thank her for her service & thanked her for a job well done and I absolutely look forward to coming back and bringing friends and family and have another meal again. She would get 5- stars from me.....Thank you Saltines, thank you Ms. Megan, and I look to see you both again very soon. Sincerely, Mario

Yelp
Eli was out waiter, decent waiter, great acting voice ! The ambiance was light and peaceful for a Sunday dinner! The Blackfish with brussels sprouts was amazing !! Tread lightly on the seafood pasta! There were baby shrimp very blend not worth the price.

Yelp
Stopped in this place for dinner while travelling to Jackson, MS. What a treat!!! Sat at the bar and had good service and excellent food. I got the catfish Po'boy which was top notch, I got the blackened version rather than fried. I paired it with a salad and added some hush puppies on the side. The blackened seasoning was just right and was really pleased I ordered it. I got the salad with their comeback sauce. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside and soft inside, and paired really well. This was a great find in a town I knew nothing about. Would definitely go back if I ever end up in Jackson, MS.

Yelp
Best happy hour in the fondren, hands down. Great staff, great atmosphere & great food per usual!

Yelp
Led here by Yelp and really glad! Arrived just before 5pm dinner rush and we were seated immediately. Marquise was friendly and informative with recommendations that resonated with the entire table. Started with gumbo and fried green maters. Gumbo was good, but the maters were EVERYTHING! Topped with shrimp étouffée & perfectly seasoned, the fried green maters were outstanding. Husband had fried catfish with cornmeal coating. The filets were soft fried, with hints of lemon in the coating, & fall apart tender. The black fish topped with crap over roasted taters with Brussels sprouts was enough food for 2 people. The shrimp and grits had an étouffée gravy that perfectly complimented the cheesy grits. Our sweet tea stayed full the whole meal. The restaurant is in a cute, gentrified area. The soothing blue tones were nice after our long drive..

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and I definitely enjoy their service. The servers are kind of, friendly, almost family like. They love talking to everyone. They took great care of my family during our time of grieving. The establishment is spacious and great for small and large groups. I enjoy the food as well.

Yelp
I visited Saltine while spending the day in Jackson. I saw great reviews and that the menu looked great. The building is cool and I like the modern, coastal feeling decor. After arriving, I sat at the bar and wasn't greeted for a while. The staff member behind the bar was very apologetic that the bartender didn't come over yet. I moved my seat closer to where the bartenders were, and was finally acknowledged after a few minutes. After getting my drink, it took a while to have someone put my food order in. The goat cheese grits were delicious, and so was the pork belly. I really enjoyed the pork belly and everything on top of it. They have a great tap and drink list, with lots of great local options.

Yelp
Met a friend here for brunch. I decided on the banana fosters pancakes with a pineapple mimosa. It came with 2 pancakes and a side of bacon. The pancakes were a nice size and came with bananas on the top and fosters sauce on them. (I requested an extra side of syrup.) Our server was a total sweetheart. Very attentive and efficient. Everything was delicious. I would like to come back to try some of the other menu items because there were a few things that caught my eye. The restaurant is very spacious and reasonably priced. It has a bright, warm atmosphere with super friendly staff and good menu choices.

Teresa W.

Yelp
Loved the atmosphere here! Made a reservation and was seated quickly!! Ordered a sampling of the small plates. Oysters fried & grilled, pork bellies and spring rolls. All were great with the spring rolls being our favorite!!!!

Grace U.

Yelp
Food was solid! Everything tasted great. Service was also amazing. The vibe is a more family friendly place so great place to bring the kids. Definitely a great sea food restaurant!

Joe K.

Yelp
Really good restaurant featuring oysters in central MS, and I'm from south Louisiana. Saltine's ambience is incredible with the renovated building's construction and decorations. The food is great, reminding me of the New Orleans cuisine and the staff is top notch. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Brandon E.

Yelp
Went on a lunch date with my wife. The host was very friendly and courteous and had us seated very quickly (10/10). Our waitress was very professional and ensured we had whatever we needed (10/10). Our food came out very quickly. My wife had the catfish Po boy and I had oysters. The oysters were seasoned just right and the cocktail sauce had an almost smoky bbq taste to it (10/10). Will most definitely be returning to try other menu items.

Leah S.

Yelp
My second visit to Saltine was just as delicious as the first. Tim gave us excellent service and made good suggestions. Everything from the apps to the main course was worth every bite. You must get the cinnamon roll. Server piping hot in a cast iron skillet, it's the star of the show. A must try while in Jackson!

BD K.

Yelp
Let's start with their great customer service. Before going I was looking forward for the Oysters Rockefeller but was a bit disappointed with the bland taste. The cajun seafood pasta was tasty and they served pretty good drinks. Overall would definitely come back to try again the Oysters Rockefeller hoping for better results.

Heidi C.

Yelp
Disgustingly filthy cold plate Server said don't touch the plate it's hot, it was cold Rim of plate was filthy with prints And so many chips! I could imagine what was in the food, discussing Not spending $30.00 on this!! I bought the beer and went home to make my own Cajun salmon and grits. Which one looks appealing to you?

Alec B.

Yelp
Went to Saltines due to recommendations that the food was good, especially the oysters. I looked online at their menu and happened to see that it was happy hour at the moment, and they had oysters, chicken biscuits, and tacos for happy hour. On their website, it says happy hour is daily from 4pm-6pm. I am currently writing this review at 4:57pm. So I asked the waiter for 6 oysters and 4 chicken biscuits, to which he said that he didn't believe the biscuits were on happy hour on Saturdays, but he would check. He came back a bit later and told me that the biscuits were not on happy hour (even though the website says they are), but the Gulf oysters were and tacos. And to let him know if I wanted to order anything else. The oysters were decent, probably because they were the happy hour ones. I never got a napkin either. But I gave this place 3 stars because even though the food was decent, I don't like the false advertisement of having something online say one thing, then going into the restaurant and being told something different.

Beth G.

Yelp
Yum!! Came here for cocktails and apps. Highly recommend the oyster sampler platter. The queso with shrimp and crawfish was also amazing!! Vodka cocktails were refreshing. Had friendly and timely service by our waiter. Fun ambiance. Support Fondren!

Rico M.

Yelp
Oysters were great. Drove from Vicksburg to find out they were out of lobster, shrimp and a few other items. But I'll definitely be back.

Edward S.

Yelp
The fried green tomatoes were the best I've ever eaten. The second favorite was the Blackfish. The seasonings to both were perfect. Service was very very friendly but seemed a little slow so go with patience.

Greg M.

Yelp
I had a dozen raw oysters and 2 beers during happy hour. After that I had 6 more grilled oysters with crawfish and Parmesan cheese. I enjoyed it all and can't wait to return!

Tiffany J.

Yelp
We stopped in while in Jackson for lunch. It's a cute and casual atmosphere with plenty of seating space and clean, modern, ad nautical vibe. We were seated and served pretty quickly. The waitress was really nice and friendly. For starters,I had the queso cheese dip. It was pretty ok. It's not really cheesy (a little on the watery side). I also had the Low Country Boil. It comes with gulf shrimp, country pleasin' andouille sausage, corn, new potatoes, creole spice. It's a little different from the boils that I have had being that it is served on a plate with no sauce on it, but it does come with a butter to dip it in. The price points are affordable. The space was clean and spacious.

Shekira M.

Yelp
The staff was so friendly and we didn't have to wait long to be seated. I ordered the po boy which had a nice sauce on it. The building was a little hard to find but thanks to others who posted the outside of the building I was able to find it.

Yelp
I ADORE SALTINE! I travel to Jackson every few months and a visit is not complete without Saltine. The oysters are amazing and perfectly prepared. The pork belly is inspired and delicious! I live in NJ, close to the beach, with lots of amazing restaurants around. But none like Saltine! They are one of a kind!

Nick R.

Yelp
This trip brought me to Jackson, Mississippi. As a town not a lot of choices for my taste but glad I kept searching as I found Saltine. Sat at the bar and had a dozen raw oysters from the gulf and was surprised on their size. They were fresh and tasty but Mother Nature is to thank for that. It was suggested that I try the shrimp and grits and it was excellent. Just the right amount of spice and creaminess to the grits. Will for sure be back in my next visit.

Ami A.

Yelp
Loved this restaurant! Tapas style food and lots of seafood (including lots of oysters). Opted to share five items and everything was stellar. Highlights were the jalapeño bacon corn bread, the pork belly. The chef is a local celebrity in the foodie world. Love the decor and great service too!

Alexandria S.

Yelp
I literally have dreams about this place. I've only been here twice and the oysters were an experience each time! I like that the restaurant has dim lighting in the evening. It's makes the conversation just right!

Cynthia C.

Yelp
We came here for our wedding anniversary. I had the Marilyn Monroe and my husband had a beer. They were both good, but strong. We ordered the green fried tomatoes and they were delicious. We had the Lafitte oysters, catfish poboy and the boiled shrimp. All very, very good. We consider ourselves lucky to have found this place.

Christi P.

Yelp
When thinking of food service and ambience the word that comes to mind is "fantastic". This is a "must do" if you are near Jackson.. for starters we had the fried green tomatoes, and they are not sure every day green tomato.. they are six slices of green tomato, fried, perfectly battered and fried topped with an amazingly flavorful sauce with large shrimp etc.. etc. means I wish I knew all the ingredients so I could make this at home lol! We had a Lowcountry boil, we filled. It was a very generous portion, Deliciously flavored. The undo sausage in this oil was also super flavorful. For the next entrée we had fried catfish it came with some hand cut, french fries, and handmade hush puppies. This is definitely not your mamas, everyday catfish... since we had went this far, we couldn't resist the brussels sprouts, so we ordered a side of them. I'd like to be able to describe this, so you could taste the food, but you just most go there... the flavors were so delicately put together with sweet, savory spicy just an excellent balance. I cannot forget the staff. From the hostess in the front, the staff that tends your table people cleaning tables, getting set up, ready was very friendly, and very skilled. Our food was brought to the table at the exact times. The chef even carried the fish out himself not to allow it to sit for a second longer than he wanted it to sit. My home is seven hours from this restaurant and I plan to come back.

Leah S.

Yelp
I loved it here!! Everything was excellent and the staff was super sweet. I had the seafood Cajun pasta and it was delicious. The kids had a burger, shrimp and grits, and the chopped beef and everyone loved everything. Highly recommend!

Ivan R.

Yelp
Awesome experience! This gem is tucked away in a refurbished school building. The service was fantastic and thoughtful. Every question we asked was answered and addressed. We ordered grilled oysters as an appetizer. My wife ordered Salmon and i ordered catfish. Both dishes were prepared exceptionally and tasted awesome. We ordered the jalapeño cornbread and it was dry and not very good. I mentioned it to our server and she was very apologetic, and offered to take it off the ticket. I said no, but offered some commercial prep techniques that may help this dish be better for others after us. We finished our meal with a cinnamon roll cheesecake, and it was to die for. This restaurant is awesome, please give it a truly when you are in Jackson, MS.

Sam T.

Yelp
You gotta get the comeback chicken sandwich tossed in the Nashville Hot! The gumbo is also really good!

Shawn V.

Yelp
Great friendly service and the atmosphere (its in an old school building) was fantastic! This was truly a great find and one that is worth venturing out to if you are in the Jackson area. They have outdoor seating and it is a pretty big place so we had no problem getting a table during a Thursday night at least. They also have a big selection of draft beers which was a pleasant surprise! I got a salmon dish on top cheesy grits with fried kale and a sweet chili sauce and it was really good. We also got their sampler baked ousters sampler platter with three different flavors and they were delish.

Nina K.

Yelp
We had the oysters Rockefeller to start. It wasn't prepared the usual way. Sauce was a bit greasy. Oysters were large and flavorful. DH ordered the Friday catfish. He said it was good. Mac and Cheese was very watery. Fries are not crispy. I had the lobster roll. It was very good. Service is slow. Place is very loud.

Shane E.

Yelp
The is a very nice place to go and get a fine plate of food. The service is top tier and the grocery is to match. It's worth the drive and the food is always delicious and sourced locally from local farmers and markets.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Soooo delicious! The menu was so enticing, we ordered way more than anyone should for two people - roasted sweet potatoes, a huge shrimp and strawberry salad, shrimp and grits, and alligator and andouille gumbo. Yeah, I know. Oh, wait...AND chips and crawfish cheese dip. Ok, in order of sheer ecstasy, the chips and crawfish dip. You'll want to grab a spoon or lick the bowl...or both. The shrimp and grits are ridiculously good (big portion) and has a nice spice to it. The tomatoes bring a lot to this dish for me. The strawberry and shrimp salad has everything but the kitchen sink in it, but it's nothing without the dressing! The gumbo is layered with flavor, but is quite spicy - burn your lips kind of spicy. And, finally, and definitely not least, the roasted sweet potatoes. Insanely crospy around the edges, served with coffee honey and creme fresh. It's like a littlr bite of savory but sweet dessert. The staff was very welcoming and on top of it, and the place was spacious and relaxed, casual. My only regret is that I stuffed myself to the max, which meant I couldn't order any of theor fresh oysters on the half shell. Next time. Oh God, please let there be a next time!

Lanessa S.

Yelp
Love love love saltine. They used to make the pbj pork belly, boiled peanuts and spicy jam and my goodness it was one of the best - the best thing to eat in Jackson! Unfortunately, they changed it up. It no longer has boiled peanuts. They use ground peanuts and it takes away from it on so many levels. Please make it the way it was! Would give them a 5 if that were corrected bc beyond that they do have some great oysters! Love them! -L

Chad B.

Yelp
Salute to Saltine! While they may not provide a military discount, this Gulf seafood restaurant will make you feel like you're right along the shore. Located in what appears to be an old brick schoolhouse, Saltine's hostess welcomed me in true Southern hospitality. The server recommended the catfish and I was not disappointed. The cornmeal crust was just the right texture and added depth of flavor. The housemade potato chips with Old Bay seasoning complimented the fish very well. I only regret not trying the Gulf oysters. Otherwise, Saltine is a salivating choice!

Arvind D.

Yelp
The service was incredible. Saltine is in a historic building and the atmosphere is young and relaxed. We enjoyed a very interactive staff and waiter. We ordered, with help and suggestions, and received a fabulous meal. It was delicious and we definitely enjoyed the offerings of the bar. It was a fabulous experience and I HIGHLY recommend!

Tom H.

Yelp
Food was outstanding. The drinks were awesome. Come for the happy hour. The staff is super friendly. A must stop if in the area.

Hillary J.

Yelp
Definitely come dine here! I was in town for a short visit and chose this restaurant based on the dessert menu, cinnamon roll cheesecake. Knowing that I'd be indulging in dessert, I started with a beer, oysters, brussel sprouts, another beer, and then the cheesecake. The food was outstanding and I would HIGHLY recommend all of it. As delicious as the food was, I think the atmosphere and service was even more impressive. So many restaurants these days can provide a great meal, but how many can also provide all around excellent service? I sat at the bar without any expectations. Every single employee in the restaurant couldn't have been nicer. Both bartenders were attentive, helpful, and friendly. There were several other employees that joined in conversation including the host, servers, and manager. They made me feel like I belonged there and was a part of their crew, like I've been there many times before. The whole experience was inviting and felt like a community. If I lived here I would want to be a regular.

Susie H.

Yelp
Had a lovely dinner here while traveling from VA to CA, so we decided to stop for lunch during our return trip. Cool interior, great food, friendly staff!

David S.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing. They have one of the best PoBoys in the country. Great atmosphere and service.

Tom H.

Yelp
Omg the good is awesome. I had the catfish and my wife almost ate it all. Great atmosphere and the staff is awesome

John B.

Yelp
One night in Jackson and we were staying in The District. The nearby Fondren neighborhood offers this gem of a restaurant. Yelpers had great recommendations but some dishes were sold out. Our server, Seirra, guided us to other options. A delightful meal! Save room for dessert. Seriously. Other reviewers called this place a gem so I used the word because they're right. One of a kind. Special. Delicious.

Allison P.

Yelp
Food was not good. Service was ok Ambiance was awful Alligator and Andouille Gumbo had no alligator Couldn't try the calamari because it was going to take 25 minutes on a Friday night at 6:30. Shrimp were too salty.

Heidi K.

Yelp
Lovely lunch at Saltine. Trendy restaurant with good service and mainly fish dishes. They had different kids of oysters on the menu. We had the gumbo, poboy, fish and chips and toast with avocado and crab meat. The kids dishes were very tasty too

Phil M.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience here and it is one of my wife's favorites. Food is exceptional and services is top notch!

Harlin H.

Yelp
I sat at the oyster bar and thoroughly enjoyed my dinner.Food was good, as was service.

Brandi B.

Yelp
Great food and service. Was greeted so nicely at the door on Father's Day. Had crab claws, steak and salmon. Didn't like the salmon but had a good lemon drop.

Blake S.

Yelp
My family loves to go to Saltine's when in town. Such a fun environment and the food is good! We always have the nicest servers
