"Set on a Waterfront Park overlooking the Beaufort River, Saltus River Grill is where locals and visitors head for a fine dining experience. It focuses on fresh catch and seafood specialties, with raw bar selections and creative sushi as well. The atmosphere is sophisticated but casual, and there’s a bustling bar and a popular patio with a fire pit." - Lynn and Cele Seldon

"Large, looming trees almost obscure the sleek façade of this restaurant—but foliage gives way to a bright, contemporary space that, with its low lights and angular interiors, is equally stylish to any city dweller's swanky home. The house special is shrimp n' grits, which seems like a bold move—this is the South, after all—but it really is a best-seller, and for good reason (actually, two: house-made broth and house-cured bacon). Seafood is a major player across the menu, from a silky bowl of crab bisque to freshly shucked oysters off the raw bar. Lest you think there are no surprises left to be had, there's also an entire sushi menu." - Paul Oswell

This is a must-go in Beaufort. We were at Old Bull Tavern and the waitress and host recommended Saltus for our next stop. The atmosphere is loud, fast paced and inviting in the best way. We sat at the counter and got to watch the sushi chefs create the most beautiful rolls. One of the sushi chefs offered to do a Chef Special roll which turned out to be one of the most decadent, flavorful sushi rolls I’ve ever had. It had homemade chili crisp oil and wasabi tobiko. The tuna nachos are the best I’ve ever had. The seaweed salad and thick pieces of ahi tuna had our group raving about Saltus all the way home. We’ll be back!

Love this place! It is upscale but not stuffy. Th outdoor patio is gorgeous and the indoor space is airy and welcoming. The bartenders are first rate and the food is outstanding. Definitely the best overall dining experience in Beaufort!

Google
My favorites were the buttermilk wedge salad, scallops, and white sangria. Great view of waterfront from outside dining tables. Food was very good but pricey. It's worth it if you don't mind the cost.

Timothy Calhoun

Google
The Truffle Fries are awesome!! I tried the Mahi sushi roll and it was good, my first time trying something like this. The Apple bread pudding like dessert with ice cream is good also. Maverick is an excellent waiter! Very knowledgeable and helpful also took great care of me.

I had a good time having dinner at this restaurant. The wait service was friendly and efficient, too bad the kitchen couldn't keep up with it. It took a while for the appetizers to arrive, and then a lot longer for the main courses. Overall, the majority of dishes were very good with the exception of their signature dish Blackened Dorado as it was overcooked.

Google
Eveytime I'm in town I come to this place and every single time it's delicious. I have a gluten allergy and they were absolutely willing to modify most dishes for me. Almost all their desserts were gluten free as well which is rare. The seafood is so fresh and so delicious. The atmosphere is beautiful with fantastic views of the waterfront. Service is top notch, with a big shout out to our server, Alexis. Definitely recommend making a reservation on weekends but it's well worth it!

Google
Stopped into have some drinks and dinner at the bar. Our bartender/server was fantastic and we had a relaxing and enjoyable time over cocktails, appetizers and dinner. The shrimp cocktail and mussels were outstanding. My husband ordered a steak which was cooked perfectly and super tasty. Will definitely return when we are back in the area.

Google
Pretty shockingly bad service. My boyfriend and I had a 7:15pm reservation, which I made one month in advance with a request to be seated outdoors. When we arrived, we were told there was no availability outdoors, so we said that we’d wait at the bar until a table was ready since we had been looking forward to eating by the river. The hostess said it would be a 15 minute wait and that she’d check in with us if it was taking any longer. After 25 mins, I went to ask her for an update and mentioned I could see a table that had clearly been open since we’d arrived. She reluctantly seated us after conferring with another member of staff - it then took literally 20 minutes for a waitress to come over. We didn’t even get the chance to order food until 8:15pm. There remained several empty tables outdoors for the entire time we were seated. I understand restaurants get busy, may be understaffed and/or training new staff. I wouldn’t leave a bad review or be upset if there had been even minimal apology or acknowledgement of the wait. But their whole vibe was passive aggressive and unwelcoming. I’ve had restaurants comp our drinks and/or desserts for much smaller inconveniences and have really never left a restaurant in the USA feeling offended by the service before. I have to say the food was really good. I don’t know if it’s complacency being one of the nicer restaurants in town, or if things are just done differently in Beaufort, or if they only treat locals well, or what, but it was baffling.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. View is terrific Mixed drinks and bar excellent Fresh seafood is wonderful

Yelp
With the place not being very crowded...the service was very slow but with that being said our waitress was incredibly nice The shrimp and grits were phenomenal The ceasar salad was really good and the croutons were a highlight (not too crunchy but nicely toasted) The sushi though...I wouldn't pay half the price to get it again The salmon sashimi was good quality but the rolls were skimpy with the fish and the chili sauce was a weird combo...my roll was supposed to have a citrus yuzu but instead it tasted like sweet and sour sauce from chick fil a was poured over it I probably wouldn't recommend this place unless someone was really jonesing for some shrimp and grits.

Carol R.

Yelp
The service is worth the price, but not the food. $100 with tip for two salads and one sushi roll that were average.

Yelp
Besides the Old Bull Tavern, Saltus has been our go to place especially when visitors are in town. The varied changing menu always included sushi, wood grilled steaks and fish, and entrees such as roast chicken, duck, shrimp and seared scallops. When my husband suggested we go for an early dinner, I took a peek at their menu and was surprised how much it shrunk. Hoping some great specials might be available, we decided to give it a go. The bar was packed so we stuck to our table reservation. I perused the dinner menu, and nothing, I mean nothing looked intriguing, creative, or exciting. It read like a thousand other dull dining venue menus. Beaufort is in serious need not just of good, consistent, high quality eateries, but ethnically diverse ones as well. Seeing Saltus' offerings shrink to indistinguishable mediocrity, really disappointed us. Even though I was prepared to make an appetizer/salad combo, I decided to try the evening's special, a grilled swordfish with mashed potatoes and green beans. My husband ordered a Caesar and some sushi. Our server, who was excellent, had worked at Saltus for a long time and informed us that a new chef was on board.....which, if inexperienced, could have been the reason they cut out so many dishes from rotation? I was a bit concerned once my plate hit the table as it was a mound of food. Obviously no attempt was made at plating or presentation. Once I tasted my fish, however, I was impressed with its execution. It was a perfectly grilled and maintained its moistness and delicate flavor. The mash was fine, but the serving size was over the top and the pairing of this style potato with the fish just didn't work for me. There are so many incredible ingredients available now, it's unfortunate that local chefs don't take advantage of the bounty. Instead, they continue to turn out your basic potato & protein dishes. Yawn. My husband's Caesar was bland, missing the usual powerful flavors from the garlic, the cheese and the anchovies. He enjoyed his sushi, but it was neither memorable nor particularly fresh tasting. We were so sorry to have had this experience at one of our better liked local restaurants. Someone needs to get back to basics here. Whatever their current strategy is, it's not working.

John J.

Yelp
I thought the food quality was very good, but not worth the premium prices that the restaurant charged. Excluding wine, we paid $300 for four people for dinner. That included two apps for the table plus four main courses and two side dishes.

Mark W. S.

Yelp
Had the best meal of our trip to Beaufort, SC. Service was very attentive. Our server, who was excellent, turned out to be from our home area. We sat outside again with a great view of the bay. It's a beautiful setting under trees facing the water. Our appetizer was a southern egg roll stuffed with pulled pork and collards with a tomato purée. Our entrees were the crab cakes, a mahi dish, a wedge salad with steak, and a poke bowl. All were perfect. I highly recommend this restaurant. Be sure to make a reservation.

Roberta D.

Yelp
Yes the food is good but the last 3 times I had the mussels the were only 1/2" big. 1st two times made me keep trying them.

Kerry D.

Yelp
As usual, the food was great! Fresh seafood and delicious. Great service and got to sit outside. All around, a great experience. One note though, inside is really noisy even though it wasn't full.

Alma P.

Yelp
Shoutout to the talented bartender, Chad. We stopped in for drinks and weren't sure what we wanted. Chad listened and collected ideas of what we would like and whipped up these AMAZING fresh spicy margaritas. I'm not a fan of margaritas, but these I will drink all day. Great ambience and menu looks good too will have to be back for dinner.

Anne L.

Yelp
I have not had a bad experience here yet. From food, to service, to the ambiance. It is all wonderful and worth every penny.

Ric G.

Yelp
Service ranged from rude (hostess) to non attentive (bartender). They both were confrontational. The food was ok at best . best suggestion is to dine somewhere else.

Carol R.

Yelp
Service was good, Alexis was very kind. Our steaks on the other hand were OVER COOKED and tough. We were so looking forward to our evening, but it was less than the hype. Hopefully they will train the kitchen staff on temperature of steaks. Fortunately, they were receptive to our comments and discounted the check, but still very disappointing evening.

Andrew O.

Yelp
Great food and service. Beautiful ambiance and great cocktails. Location over looking the park and water beyond.

D H.

Yelp
Sitting outside with a river view was nice, but we would never return. Service was spotty and non-attentive. The kitchen was a complete mess. It took 30 minutes to get a half-dozen oysters to our table. Our dinner entree of Shrimp & Grits came out a full 20 minutes before our other entree of Sushi. Obviously understaffed & overwhelmed for a Monday night. The manager did at least respond with a partial credit on the bill.

Hernley J.

Yelp
My friend was celebrating his birthday and invited a group of us to Saltus. Not being from Beaufort he insured us that Saltus is on of the best restaurants in town. After eating there I'd say he was probably right. I ordered the pork belly was which absolutely amazing. One of the BEST I've ever had. I also ordered a Long Island to drink which was unfortunately one of the WORST I've ever had. My entree was the fried chicken (I think) it was okay, I've had better though. The mashed potatoes were excellent. I tried some of my friends meal, which was the Snapper. That was *chefs kiss* Definitely a great restaurant to celebrate a anniversary, birthday, graduation, etc. I would definitely come back. You're welcome!

Victoria S.

Yelp
Food is excellent! Service is great, on the waterside , so it's convenient for boaters. I highly recommend it!

Asdyane F.

Yelp
The service was excellent, but the food was okay. My steak was over cooked and everything needed more salt (at least to my taste). I'd say the best thing about this restaurant is the view. Other than that it's just regular over priced food.

Cypress B.

Yelp
We had a good early birthday dinner at Saltus River Grill. The restaurant is overlooking the waterfront view and the outdoor seating was shaded too. Our server was very attentive in accommodating our dinner needs. We decided to order several appetizers and drinks since we had some charcuterie plate & drinks at different restaurant. We had amazing char grilled oysters to start with and it was so good to order twice. Steak tartare was topped with quail egg and we mixed it well with the tartare and it was one of the best steak tartare I had. It seasoned well and so fresh. The salmon belly portion was generous and they were so fresh! The next dish we tried was shrimp pirlau and we told our server to make it spicy and they delivered. They seasoned the rice so well with generous amount of spicy sausage, and shrimps. We'll definitely coming back for more food adventures in Beaufort.

Pete F.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, drinks are good and service is fine. However, the food prices are high and they underdeliver on the value. Will pass and move on.

Lisa M.

Yelp
This restaurant is open daily while some restaurants in Beaufort are closed Sunday and Monday in particular. It was a little too cool to sit outside and there didn't seem to be service out there. We did go because we were looking for a place to walk to on a Monday evening. We just shared a few small plates and had 2 drinks each but it managed to be quite an expensive meal and while the food was good it didn't stand out to me as one of the finer meals. It certainly scores well on ambience and service but is it worth the price?

Myaa K.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the visit with Saltus. I've been there a handful of times, but on February 3rd, my fiancé proposed to me at Saltus and the staff, audience and management was absolutely amazing. The environment was food was amazing and the ambiance was to die for!!

Anna N.

Yelp
We made reservations here visiting Beaufort for our anniversary, and it did not disappoint! Our favorites were the fried shrimp, mahi sushi, tuna poke bowl (add the rice!!). The chocolate pot crème with short bread cookies and creme brûlée were AMAZING. The servers and staff were all very attentive and service was quick despite how busy they were on a Friday night.

Karri D.

Yelp
Service good. Food meh. Nothing much to choose from. My food was good but not great. But it will do.

Shawn R.

Yelp
Took my wife here on our anniversary. The food, service and ambiance were top notch. If we are ever in the area again we will definitely return.

William R.

Yelp
A great location in need of maintenance and freshening up. We have dined there twice recently indoors and the fly problem persists. From what we can tell the cause is quarter inch sized gaps in the windows letting the annoyances in. It's one thing to have flies visit while dining outside but inside it should be an irregular occurrence. Menu is good but not great and needs refreshing. The house old fashioned cocktail was undrinkable and we saw another table return theirs as well. Service is friendly. My advice to management would be to step back and focus on the customer experience.

Scott C.

Yelp
Amazing food, cocktails and atmosphere/views. Also, wait staff was magnificent. We'll definitely will be coming back.

Christina W.

Yelp
This local used to love Saltus but it's gone down a lot in both quality of food and staff since the pandemic. The atmosphere on the water is wonderful and never disappoints. But between the long waits, poorly trained revolving door of new staff members, and plummeting food quality it's hard to support what used to be one of my favorite restaurants, especially with their increasingly higher prices. I will try them again after the summer season dies down and report back.

Blake B.

Yelp
My family and I came here for an early Sunday dinner and we had such a pleasant experience. Our waitress was extremely kind and helpful in selecting our dishes. The mussels were amazing and the real star of the show was the crab bisque! Everyone else had rave reviews about their items as well including the buttermilk chicken and shrimp pirlau. We all ordered a round of drinks and I wasn't particularly wow'ed enough to get a second but it was enjoyable. I'd recommend this place to anyone visiting the area, the location is perfectly placed at the waterfront and parking can easily be found on the street and nearby lots.

Frugalista C.

Yelp
We truly enjoyed our dinner at Saltus River Grill. Chelsea was very attentive - great customer service. And the food was wonderful as well. The chargrilled oysters with garlic butter were nom, the sushi roll was tasty (but maybe just a bit small for the price), and the blackened Mahi Carolina Set style was fabulous! The bourbon pecan pie was a nice way to finish up the meal.

Mike K.

Yelp
Under new Chef, Saltus has taken a step forward. Always strong with Cocktails and Wine this continues. Still the best place in Beaufort to enjoy outdoor water front dining. Very disappointed that the grilled oysters are no longer on the menu, however the curry mussels and fried shrimp did make up for the oysters. My wife Salmon was cooked exactly to the temperature she requested and my Mahi Mahi aka Dorado was excellent.

Eliza F.

Yelp
Consistently good food and wonderful outdoor seating. Fire pit was a fun touch in the cooler months. A bit pricey-

Donna B.

Yelp
SOglad we decided on Saltus River Grill for our anniversary dinner this year! We were staying in the state park campground for a few nights as part of our anniversary celebration and brought our own food for all our meals except for the evening of the 21st - the actual anniversary day of our wedding. After reading a bunch of reviews we decided on Saltus and I am so happy that we did. We opted to sit at the bar and the two bartenders were both very nice and helpful. Our pork belly appetizer (we shared everything) and crab cake were both outstanding and delicious. We shared a ribeye and to our pleasant surprise the kitchen split everything and our dinners came out on separate plates. Nice touch! It was costly but more than worth it. We will be back! By the way, the views are outstanding!

Randall M.

Yelp
Excellent all around. Neve had a bad experience here, and the food is very good. Good service, great ambiance.

Nate S.

Yelp
Great food. Service was fine. Waiter kept handing the guy the check even though the lady put down her card Restroom had sticky floors.

99Wolves 1.

Yelp
It's the best place I've ever ate in Beaufort. I will come back and eat here when I visit Beaufort again. People should try this place, it's awesome!

Beth O.

Yelp
Excellent across the board. Make a reservation and be okay w high prices. It's delicious.

Barb H.

Yelp
Excellent food & service, loved our server& her food recommendations-great atmosphere, too! Stopped overnight on our way to Florida-hidden gem, on the water, don't forget to try out the swings!

David H.

Yelp
Always like coming here. The food is outstanding and service never disappoints. I'll continue to come here.

Dana M.

Yelp
Oysters from Maine are to die for! Oyster rockerfeller is amazing! The scallops were scrumptious. Definitely will visit again when I make another trip to SC

Amy D.

Yelp
The food this evening was amazing. I had the California roll (lump crab) and the Spring Rolls (which were chicken with a Thai peanut sauce). My dinner partner had the steak tartare and the spring rolls. Dessert was the crème brûlée and I had the chocolate dessert (I'm sorry the name is escaping me) with homemade shortbread cookies. The cookies didn't look like much, but they were delicious! We were mmmming and ahhhing so much over the food that we were getting strange looks, it was that good! The food here is fantastic, they've really upped their game since we were there in the Fall. They need a little more attention from the wait staff and water folks.

Val C.

Yelp
We have been to Saltus many times over the past 5 years. The food has gone downhill. We don't mind paying $45+ for great seafood and steaks and these are overpriced. We do enjoy the sushi. It is fresh and very good! Chad is a very attentive bartender. The restaurant needs updating! It is very dark and the light fixtures are dirty. As an upscale restaurant, there should be table clothes. The ladies room was unacceptable! The owners need to step it up!

Valerie P.

Yelp
Upscale restaurant on the water. Nice place for a date night or special meal. Not a huge menu so picky eaters may have difficulty. A bit pricey and high end. Not someplace I would bring my kids. Service was decent. Server was knowledgeable and friendly. Food came out at a reasonable time. If you are not big on heavy, rich sauces stick with the fish and vegetables. Portions were adequate and not too small

Help Fix S.

Yelp
Your mouth will thank you. The Chef has a special talent. Ask the servers what you should eat and go for it!

Leah C.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner experience at saltus tonight. Bre was a wonderful waitress and made our anniversary dinner so special. The food was delicious as always. Thank you, Saltus and Bre!

Eloy C.

Yelp
Proxy but worth it. Blackened mahi-mahi and outdoor seating under the trees was very pleasant.

Alex C.

Yelp
Service is good. Overall environment is clean and quiet. The food is ok, but not for the price they are charging. aka overpriced..... I would say try it once to say you did but probably will not come back.

Kathy K.

Yelp
Expensive but ohhh so good. Mussels were awesome. Reminds me of a European recipe I had many years ago.

Steffani F.

Yelp
As a visitor, we had a fantastic meal at Saltus. We started with the ahi tuna sushi and it was delicious. The hubby had the grouper ceviche and muscles (both appetizers) for his dinner. I had caramelized scallops and substituted the root vegetables for broccoli and goat cheese. It just so happened to be my birthday and my children (3 states away!) surprised me with a bottle of Prosecco and Saltus surprised me with crème brûlée! It was a pretty spectacular meal and if we ever make it back to Beaufort, we will definitely return to Saltus for another dinner.

MS V.

Yelp
Our favorite place to go whenever we come into town. Their food is worth the wait. Highlight of our stay in Be

Laura M.

Yelp
Improper steak preparation and or cooling. Steak went rancid in front of us though I have had wonderful company there and excellent oysters Rockafeller, fish and sushi consistently. I can't give it an accurate rating because there's good and downright overpriced thawed wrong steak that stank.
