New Restaurant Openings in Seattle for 2021 | Eater Seattle

"This Renton spot touts an Aussie-style fish-and-chip approach using battered New Zealand hoki, fries seasoned with chicken salt, and a menu that also includes tacos, burgers, and chicken schnitzel available for pickup via Clover." - Gabe Guarente

We had sea bass fish and chips and clam chowder. Clam chowder was watery, little rundown texture. Flavor was ok. Sea bass was good but lacking flavor if you eat it but itself. Their tarter and chipotle sauce were amazing!! So please dip the fish there. Service was great! Four different employees came and checked on us. I will come back here for sure. They recently got robbed so they are not taking any cash.

Food is amazing! The best calamari we have had in the US. Service was quick and attentive. If you're a local and haven't eaten here- shame on you! If you're visiting like we were- make this an affordable, delicious part of your stay.

After driving by all the time, I am not fish and chip person and it is pricey from looking the menu. We stopped for early dinner, I ordered fish taco, it was $10 per taco, on that note, it was good fish taco. The fish was little batter and big piece of fish. It was as big as the tortilla and tortilla was also good. The sauce was good , look like thousand island, on the sweet flavor. The staff was friendly and come and checked on us. Parking lot is small but you can park on the street.

Had a great experience here! The restaurant was clean, well-kept, and had a nice atmosphere. The burger was juicy and delicious, cooked just right. The hand-cut fresh potato fries were great—crispy with the perfect amount of seasoning. Definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to. Also the entire menu is halaal!

Google
Was in town for an appointment looking for a quick tasty bite to eat and seen reviews on the fish tacos and potato cakes and have to say I'm very happy I stopped here! The potato cakes are cooked perfectly and unique not like any potato one had before, very crunchy on the outside and soft yet firm on the inside perfectly seasoned. I had my fish Taco battered and the fish was cooked perfectly slightly sweet tasting with the perfect amount of crunch on the outside to the soft flakiness of the fish inside. Whatever sauce they use dipping for the potato cakes as well as the sauce they put on the tacos is super tasty! Definitely recommend and would come back if in town again or even make a trip just to eat here. The portions were perfect as well and very filling. The 2 gentlemen working the counter were very friendly and informative. The restaurant was clean and quiet, with a good atmosphere.

Small but mighty. I ordered the barramundi fish and chips, it was larger than I expected but good. Service is mostly self service, order at the counter, grab your silverware, drink from the fridge, buss your own dishes. Seating is inside and small patio outside. Decor is fresh and vibrant.

🌞 Perfect Sunny Day Lunch – Amazing Hoki & Chips at Salty Blue! 🐟🍟 Stopped by Salty Blue on a weekday lunch outing with my son, and we were blown away by the food! We ordered their most popular item, the Hoki & Chips, along with a cup of clam chowder and an orange soda. The hoki fillet was massive, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender and juicy inside. The thick-cut fries were golden and hearty. What really stood out was the tartar sauce — it had dill in it, which gave it a fresh, herby twist that paired perfectly with the fish. The spicy mayo was also a nice touch for those who want a little kick. The clam chowder was rich and creamy with a great depth of flavor, and the orange soda was refreshingly sweet — a great balance to the fried food. We sat outside on the patio, enjoying the sunshine and a relaxed vibe. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience even better. 📍 If you're looking for quality fish & chips in a chill outdoor setting, this place is a must-visit. Definitely coming back!

Google
Salty Blue was a great stop for a late lunch, the fish tacos were very good, light yet filling, and tasty sweet potato fries. The fish and chips were impressive with the large single piece of fish with great tartar sauce. Nice layout, friendly staff, and chill atmosphere. Too bad there's not one in Kirkland.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We ordered The Basket and the serving size was huge! Perfect meal to share! Service was prompt; our order was taken right away & the food came out within 10 minutes. Ambiance was a home town feel; there were a lot of patrons but enough space to cater to everyone.

Yelp
Great customer service! It's a small eat in or take out restaurant in the heart of downtown. Has plenty of parking. Fish or shrimp with chips... tacos or burgers!! What are you in the mood for. Quick service! We enjoyed our meal. Locally owned .. supporting small businesses

Yelp
Wow! I can't believe my search for quality seattle area fish and chips is over, home at last!! Hot crispy juicy cod with ample skin on thick cut chips. The tatar sauce is dill heavy and has a bright tang, everything you'd want imo. Don't miss on the pineapple fritters!!! My god, so delicious. They did not make it home. lol A cream cheese dip/sauce would absolutely slap with this!!! Do yall take ideas?! They also have a really delicious and balanced cider that I had a glass of while waiting. Everyone was super happy and chill! Made me really feel comfortable as I was the only guy taking out at the moment. Can't wait to bring my wife and dine in!! Thanks for a great lunch guys!!

Yelp
Aussie fish and chips here in WA! Loved the fish and chips. Good small restaurant.. Friendly service

Yelp
We were starving from traveling and indecisive so we just ordered the basket and a separate cup of chowder to satisfy all cravings! Staff was friendly, happily answered questions. I almost didn't get the basket due to everything being fried, but they did make an exception to swap 1 item for grilled. If we didn't get the basket we were going to spend a lot less so by allowing people to swap one of those items for grilled is a good selling point IMO & you can swap with The Catch, but I wanted the potato cakes from The Basket. He informed me the chowder wasn't as thick as most places and I actually loved the soupy consistency. It was flavorful without being too filling before your meal! Chowder was delicious! Everything from the basket was so good. The grilled fish was tasty & well seasoned. The breaded fish does not leave that greasy taste in your mouth like other places, It's one of the best I've had. The potato cakes were a treat. I loved those so much, and even the slaw was yummy! Our meal came with tartar sauce and another, but the tartar sauce was excellent. Restaurant appeared to be extremely clean, even the bathroom, & the hand soap smelled so good. All the men were hard working, As soon as people got up they were clearing and wiping off tables. Highly recommend this place. Would we pretty sweet to sit outside during good weather.

Yelp
Salty Blue continues to be my go-to spot for fish & chips in Seattle. Their batter is everything it should be - crisp, airy, and perfectly seasoned (no egg). The fish is consistently flaky, well-cooked, and never dry or overdone. Surprisingly, I also love their burgers and chicken strips! Everything they do is well executed and you won't be disappointed no matter what you get. If you're overwhelmed by the menu (understandable!), go for one of the baskets - they're great for sharing and take the guesswork out of ordering. And whatever you do, don't skip the potato cakes. The ambiance is simple, bright, and fittingly nautical; nothing fancy, just good vibes and even better food. The staff are friendly and great with helping you through the menu. Highly recommend if you're craving classic fish & chips done right.

Yelp
First time and ate on the run. The fish and chips were so good, the original sauce though!! and located in a place that was easy to get to on/off highway. It's a definite return to spot when I go to Washington state. Service was great.

Yelp
Casual dining, great quick bite, lunch date option! There is a parking lot which is nice and some outdoor seating that's dog friendly. My partner and I both got the Hoki/House Fish & Chips, I got the sweet potato chips upgrade. Loved both, regular fries/chips felt more crispy than the sweet potato ones but I still really enjoyed them. We were both obsessed with the house sauce, it was sweet and tangy! Very addicting and wanted to dip the fish and all the chips in it, so if you're a saucey enjoyer like me, I would highly recommend you get another one. Also enjoyed the chowder, flavors were good, not the thickest chowder but it had a lot of good bites of ingredients that were in it (wish I had gotten a better photo of that). Liked their drink selection, service is mostly self serve, the staff did check in on us when they did the rounds, offered to bring out stuff when they dropped off our food but we cleaned up after ourselves. This is a great casual spot for fish n chips enjoyers and great selection of small bites to share. We did come on a weekday so unsure how it is during the weekends. We will be coming back to try out the other stuff on the menu!

Yelp
Not a bad place to dine. Just the Hoki cod was not to my taste. Really off compared to rock fish and pacific cod from west coast waters. Have had fish n' chips in Australia and New Zealand so wherever they obtain their cod it is just strange and salvageable by large tarter use.

Yelp
If you are looking for a change of pace, a way to decompress yourself from the chaos of downtown, come here. Renton feels like small town living and the locals were quite friendly. Upon entering we were greeted by a young man behind the counter. He was very friendly and his recommendations were excellent. The restaurant was clean and surprisingly it doesn't smell like fish. The fish tacos were so delicious. It was a great balance of coleslaw and fish. It was slightly sweet and the squeeze of lemon balanced all the flavors. We ordered 2 different types of fish and chips and clam chowder as well. This place seems to be a local favorite. The diversity in customers was really nice to see. Keep up the great work and "Stay Salty"

Yelp
Great little hidden gem in Renton with fresh fish and great service! I'll be going back again!

Yelp
The barramundi (sea bass) was amazing! It was a meaty filet that was wonderfully seasoned and had a really nice, crispy sear. The salad had a great lemon vinaigrette. The fried cod (NZ hoki) was awesome as well. It is more meaty and has more flavor than American cod. It is batter coated but has a great crunch somehow and was less greasy than most batter style fish and chips. The sweet potato fries however were a little too greasy for my taste. The tartar was thick and delicious! The tacos (grilled) were fantastic: loaded with tons of hoki and had a sweet slaw and savory sauce (tasted like a bang bang sauce mixed in with relish that is somehow just magnificent). Very friendly staff and casual vibe.

Yelp
Stopped by here for lunch after reading many great reviews on Yelp. We weren't expecting too much as we hadn't heard of this place previously, but the Yelp reviews were on point. The fish in the fish sandwich was super fresh, with very light batter. I'm typically not too keen on fish and chips and find fried fish a bit too oily, but that's not the case with the fish here; we're definitely going to try the fish and chips next time. The chowder was good as well, the chowder itself was not super thick, but it tasted great and was loaded with a ton of high quality fish. The Greek salad was pretty good but not too notable in my opinion, though my wife was a bit more impressed by it. Overall, a great find in downtown Renton!
google avatar

Julia K.

Yelp
Loved the fried shrimp tacos! The dressing was great and the lettuce/slaw mix helped out balance the fried shrimp. The fries were good but not exactly my favorite as they were the crispy and soggy type of fries but I think that's a personnel preference thing. The employees were all helpful and checked in on us multiple times if we needed anything. I'll definitely be back again to try other things!

Cindy L.

Yelp
My daughter and I were in the area and decided to stop in for their fish and chips, and we were so impressed. The portion was huge, the fish was incredibly fresh, and the fries were perfect hand-cut potatoes just the way we like them. We also tried the chowder, which was really good and unlike anywhere else since it's made with fish. Overall, a great experience, and the guys there were super friendly!

Yelp
Easy to walk in and order with fast service! Outdoor and indoor seating and lots of options for soft drinks. Food was amazing and loved the tartar sauce! Will be back.

Yelp
Finally the stars aligned and we were able to try this place for a late lunch. While the fish fillet wasn't as large as the ones in the UK, they were plenty large. Think Aussie style everything. We ended up hesitantly sharing the Basket. Initially the large quantity of the food seemed daunting, but everything was well cooked and delicious! Along with a pint of the winter ale from the tap, it was a very good meal. Different staff members came by occasionally to check on us, which was a nice touch. A good value.

Yelp
Wow, of course being a kiwi fish and chips caught my eye!! Glad I stopped off in here the Hoki fish was cooked perfectly very delicious and want above expectations !!!

Yelp
Stumbled on this place when traffic got a bit heavy on a warm day! It's clean, the guys working were beyond chill and the entire ordering process was easy going. Service was great in the beginning and throughout, they checked in a couple times and bussed our tables at the end. The menu was simple and straight forward. We got the halibut, hoki and red ale-- all were great and the portions were generous. Personally loved the fries, some were real crispy and others crispy yet soft. Both of the fish came with a solid homeade tartar + a tangy sweet aioli ( assuming ) This is definitely one of our new fav fish stops in Renton!

Yelp
Fish & chips! Salty Blue is a smaller place with a paired down menu that gets out the food fast. I got the code and you get 1 huge piece over fries ($17) and 2 sauces - starter and a sweeter one. The fish came out hot with a sprinkle of salt on top. The menu includes burgers, salad, apps, along with 3 different fish or shrimp. They do have a few tables outside for overflow. Parking is available on the street or maybe you can grab o e in the small parking lot. They offer sodas, and beers.

Yelp
Great place for fish and chips! I've never had Australian style but this place has delicious pieces of very lightly battered crispy fish!! We would be happy to come back again! The service is super friendly too.
google avatar

Yelp
Picture this: Hungry tourists relying on AI (and Yelp) to find the best fish & chips in the area. Salty Blue got the consensus vote...for excellent reason. The fish is delicious. The batter is light and crispy. The fries (whether regular or sweet potato) were generous. The owner and his teammate were delightful. As a bonus, Tubthumping by Chumbawamba filled the little place with a reason to laugh about lame music. Stop in. Have fish. Leave happy!

Yelp
It was 6:40pm and we were frantically trying to find a place for take out. Stumbled across this Yelp page and of course fish and chips sound amazing (when does it not?!). I called and asked if it would be too late to order for to go- because as much as I am a foodie, I will never be THAT customer, holding up the kitchen, making you stay past closing and creating absolute chaos. Guy on the phone had the best service ever and reassured me that as long as we arrived before they close (7pm) we were in the clear. THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS IN SEATTLE. First off, it's a massive piece of fish but battered not too heavily. The tartar sauce is fire. And the house sauce is perfect for the fries. My friend liked the tacos better but I truly enjoyed the Hoki and Chips on its own. Sometimes you don't need to mess with the original when it's just that good. I didn't love the chowder as the consistency was thinner than what I am used to/prefer but hey, it's probably someone's cup of tea. Definitely one of my go to spots in the area.
google avatar

Han H.

Yelp
Got the hoki & chips ($16.50) and a side of potato cakes ($5). The hoki is melt in your mouth tasty! Was blown away at first bite. The hoki & chips comes with both tartar sauce and house sauce, and the potato cakes comes with the house sauce. Their batter is crazy crispy! Highly recommend the potato cakes (my fries were a little under cooked). Staff were very nice and friendly. Bus your own table. Although a little pricey, definitely recommend supporting this place!
google avatar

Sunny W.

Yelp
I wasn't expecting much from their burger, I figured they're primarily good at fried fish. However, don't skip it! Their burger is definitely A-tier. Its almost like a smashburger, it had a great char. And most importantly, the build order is correct! Lettuce on the bottom to soak up the juices . The fish is great (fish burger) and I'll have to come back for the regular fish and chips. They look massive.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this restaurant and finally we did a month ago. We ordered the Australian sea bass with Greek salad, chowder and calamari. We are pleased with the dishes we ordered, the barramundi fish Is tasty and not fishy at all. Calamari was cooked to perfection, the chowder didn't wow me at all. Service is friendly and fast. There's an outside seating but we opted to stay inside because of the hot weather. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Went there for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. Very clean and bright small restaurant. Simple menu. Can choose either grilled or battered fish. I like how V they put your food in a small tray ( not plastic) to serve. Self service for water, utensils etc. We ordered a fish set and added an additional fish, and a small bowl of chowder - not the best but is fulfilling and satisfactory.

Andrew M.

Yelp
I had the Halibut and Chips, it was excellent. Staff were friendly and engaging . Would recommend.

Yelp
Best fish and chips I've ever had! Everything was great: Staff are friendly Prices are reasonable Food is excellent. Portions are big Give this place a try!

Yelp
Great food, even better service, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Their fish tacos will definitely see me again

Yelp
Best fish and chips ever! Even better than the ones I had in London. Perfectly crispy and light and fresh. The staff was very friendly. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
A Deliciously If you're in the mood for a classic, satisfying snack, look no further than Salty Blue Chips. These chips deliver exactly what they promise: a perfectly crisp texture and a clean, bold saltiness that makes them incredibly addictive. The first thing you notice is the outstanding crunch. Every chip is hearty and thick-cut, providing a solid, satisfying shatter that you just don't get with thinner varieties. This makes them excellent for dipping, though they are equally fantastic right out of the bag.The flavor balance is spot-on. The natural, earthy flavor shines through, perfectly complemented by a generous (but not overwhelming) dusting of sea salt. They manage to achieve that ideal "salty blue" profile without tasting artificial or greasy. The blue variety also brings a subtle, slightly sweeter note to the potato itself, which balances the high salt content beautifully.

Yelp
Super cute restaurant with patio. Fast and friendly service and really good food. I ordered the battered fish tacos and my husband ordered the battered halibut and chips. Would definitely come back if I was in the area in the future.

Yelp
Salty Blue kicked off my first meal during my visit to Seattle. The staff were very friendly and provided us with great recommendations. I opted for the fish burger. The fish burger was breaded to perfection, the slaw gave it an extra punch. The chips/fries were so good. I hate a thin fry and these didn't disappoint. The grilled fish was seasoned and grilled nicely. I'm glad they offered a grilled version. The calamari was bland and super chewy. However, the sauce made up for it. The inside is small and very clean. The staff continued to bus tables and ensure everyone was taken care of.

Yelp
Hey YELP Community, I was visiting from Los Angeles, California, and was craving some great seafood. I yelped seafood in the area and found this amazing place called SALTY BLUE. It's a laidback environment where you can eat inside or out and the food and service were outstanding. It was so good, I came back 2x within the week before I came back to California. Highly recommend SALTY BLUE. ENJOY!

Daerian R.

Yelp
Wow!!!!! Amazing fish and chips. The house sauce is incredible with the chips and fish. The tacos had a sweet slaw that wasn't overpowering and added to the already amazing flavor. Will definitely be returning

Yelp
Not only do they do amazing fish, their smash burgers are bomb as well! Can't go wrong here.

Yelp
In Seattle for a work trip and knew I needed some fish. These fish tacos did not disappoint! Adding this place to my must eats whenever I'm back.

Yelp
So good i had the grilled Barramundi with chips and 6 pcs shrimp. 10/10 me being from miami . Im definitely coming back a couple times before i leave. Clean inside staff very nice. Once again 10/10

Yelp
O M G, this place is a find. I live in Mountlake Terrace and would drive here again. Fish, portions HUGE. Fries hand cut. Food came, was steaming hot. The breading on the fish was crisp and didn't fall off. The fish was fresh and very moist. I had the Hoki/NZ cod. Charles had the Barramundi/Aust. Sea Bass. Why ANYONE would EVER go to an Ivars, is far beyond me. There's seating outside. It's a Small business and is AMAZING. Our food came out fairly quickly. It's well worth your trip. The picture I'm showing the fish portion was from end to end on the tray. They have salads, burgers and Tacos as well.

Bailey R.

Yelp
Cute restaurant in a cool little town, food was so good, and the portions were big! Service was fast and friendly!

Sofia S.

Yelp
Salty blue has the best fish tacos I have ever had! We always get the baked version of the fish tacos and they never miss. The staff is attentive, respectful, and simply nice people. It is a bit on the pricer side but I think completely worth it for the quality of fish! I stay trying to convince my boyfriend that we need to go!
google avatar

Alyssa W.

Yelp
This place is so cute! Happened to see it when I had to stop by my bank just down from it and decided to give it a try. I will for sure be back here. We had: Chowder. 3/5 this isn't a regular menu item and while it wasn't bad, in fact the flavor was actually quite good. When I think of chowder I think thick like clam chowder. The flavor was good, but was pretty runny. Make this thick and I'll be back for you. (It was also a seafood chowder which I quite liked. Different than the usual clam chowder you get a fish places) Fish and chips 10/5. I think I can say hands down this might be the best fish and chips I've ever had!! The batter was super crispy while also being so light on the fish. The chips were hand cut, cooked well and also crispy. I'm already planning my next stop for this! Calamari 5/5 these were also super yummy. They were lightly breaded rings. Way more calamari to breading the ratio was perfect. Flavor was great. Tartar 5/5. Let's face it sometimes the tartar makes the meal when it comes to a fish and chips place. Theirs is very good. Dill heavy and creamy. If you want the best fish and chips you'll ever have stop there today!
google avatar

Marcie S.

Yelp
I love the large pieces they give you and the wonderfully crunchy, perfect batter. Also, those Aussie tater thingies are superb! The fries and sweet potato fries are ok, but I find them a bit inconsistent where the potato slices are ALWAYS on point. Fry sauce and tarter are good, too. I have been a few times and need to try some other items and update my review. Would be 5 stars but sometimes, there is quite a bit of oil in the container. I believe they could drain them a bit better but hey, still delicious!
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Ordered the fish tacos and the chowder. Both were excellent. The fish in the tacos were perfectly cooked, cabbage was fresh and the sauce was well seasoned but not overbearing on the fish. Usually I prefer the cream based chowder but the broth base was not lacking in flavor. Solid 5 stars on the food but I had to mark it down for service, not a fan of having to get my own utensils, drinks and then bussing my own table when I'm done.
google avatar

Yelp
Had barramundi and chips. Possibly the best fish and chips I have ever tasted. Huge portion of fish. Wonderful lunch.

Yelp
Delicious! Salty Blue's Fish and Chips are some of the best I've had in the USA. The batter was crisp and light--not oily, not over-salted, not mushy, and it did not mask the cod. I didn't ask, but I'm pretty sure the chips were twice cooked: wonderfully golden outside, fluffy inside, skin on. Sauces that accompanied weren't needed, but added so much flavor and interest, too. I would drive out of my way to eat here again.
