My wife and I visited the Salty Mule for the first time at the suggestions of our son. It was not very busy when we arrived, we were seated promptly. Our server, Bella, took our drink order, and the drinks arrived quickly. Our food order was taken, and the restaurant was getting filled pretty quickly at that point. Our food did take just a little bit longer than we hoped to arrive. As for the food, I had fried scallops, and my wife had grilled scallops. The grilled were a lot better than the fried ones. Be aware that there is a $5 difference in cost between the fried and grilled platters. My wife had fried clams and grilled scallops. Her platter cost $5 more than my platter with fried clams and fried scallops. The fried clams were nice, I enjoyed them. I also had the creamed corn, it was nice, but it could have been a little more creamy. My wife really enjoyed her green beans. We were glad to try the Salty Mule, we will visit it again.

We popped around 1 pm for lunch. I wouldn't have given them a star but had to. The appetizer was burnt the waitress bought it out and says I know this is burnt so do you want us to cook again.Really then why bring it out. It went downhill after that everything else came out raw we didn't eat. This meal was 90 dollars and some change unbelievable.

Google
I just finished having lunch here and honestly should’ve went elsewhere…. $22 for the lobster roll and it tasted pitiful per my husband. The lobster roll had 4 chunks of meat in it. If you share plates it’s a $3 up charge so i didn’t even bother to try it. Onion rings are obviously frozen and not made fresh, they tasted bland and i didn’t like the texture. I had the grilled platter and my blackened grouper was oily. I think the only good thing about todays lunch were the fries and beer. Server was fine.

Google
Food was delicious! The crab cake with bacon creamed corn was great, the fried shrimp were perfect, and the French fries were the best of the 3 sides (fries, okra, asparagus) we had.

Google
First time here, but we heard great things. The oysters were fresh and amazing, and the gator bites were the best we've had. The Po' Boy had great ingredients, but we couldn't get past how bad the bread paired with the sandwich. Too much bread, like pillows around the fish and accoutrements. Service was fantastic though, and we even got a small magic show table side.

Google
Stopped in today after following their social for a while - did not disappoint. Was in between lunch and dinner crowds, still got great service and super delicious, fresh food. The Bloody Mary was also a star and did not disappoint! Can’t wait to go back and try more of their menu!

Google
The fries were sprinkled with sugar which spilled into my clams and oysters. The bartender said they use a rub that has sugar, but the taste was all sugar. This was our second time. Not sure if there will be a third. Aside from that, Conner provided excellent service. The two stars is for the candied sugar food!

Google
Have been to this place many times and have always walked away pleased with my experience but today, not so much! Not sure what has happened but the food has changed. I used to brag about the size of the fish and what you get for your money. I ordered grouper and scallops and when it came to the table, the grouper looked like a flat piece of tilapia from the grocery store and the scallops looked like popcorn shrimp- I was stunned! I’m so sad about this because The Salty Mule was my go to seafood restaurant in Canton. This meal was not worth the money. I’m not sure if there’s an issue with their supplier for the seafood but it’s not at all up to par. I probably will not be back as it’s not worth the money any longer!☹️

Yelp
Food was amazing, Connor was a great server! Very attentive and informal on everything on the menu. Definately recommend this place!!! ASK FOR CONNOR!

Yelp
Overall I'd probably come back here for some lunch. My wife got the fried clam strips with fries and it was solid and we'd order it again. I ordered the lobster roll Connecticut style. For the town of Canton, GA it was SPADES! The only thing that was weird and you can see it in the pictures was they had fried peppers and lemons in the calamari so when I bit into what I thought was calamari and it was a lemon I thought that was a little odd. The server was friendly and did a great job. The vibe was good and the music wasn't too loud making lunch conversation easy. I'd probably try a drink next time. A table near us was having a really food time and seemed to love whatever it was they were drinking.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and thought it was time for a review. I'm going 5 stars for a couple of reasons with qualification. First off, you walk into this place and there's a cool beachy vibe. The bar feels like you're at a tiki bar in an island somewhere and the dining room has a front section with garage style doors. A little industrial feel. It's a cool joint. Service each time has been quite good. So nothing to complain about there. Now the food: There's a good balance of seafood at a reasonable price. The mahi tacos are killer good. The grilled platter is solid. I got the platter with mahi and scallops. The sides they offer are also very tasty. Onion rings, Cole slaw, bacon creamed corn, and the greens are great. The fish filet was on the smaller and thinner side and the scallops were midsized. But a seafood plate with two proteins and 2 sides for $24 is very reasonable. This isn't exquisite 5 star dining but it's pretty darn decent. The oysters We had for an app were large, tasty and reasonable. The craft beer selection was really good. So for a seafood place on Downtown Canton, the balance of quality and price are very much in line. Lots of fried seafood options as well. Definitely is GoTo place for times to come.

Yelp
We waited for about 7-10 minutes to be greeted & seated at a table. The interior was actually quite warm for the first day of March, especially considering that it was 65* or so outside. Our waitress was fairly young, which shields her inexperience, but the unawareness of customer needs reflects on the training that new hires go through. The table only had the major waste thrown away and was not properly wiped down to remove food scraps & sticky residue. Soft drinks & water arrived within an acceptable time frame (3-5 minutes), and my beer finally came to the table after about 10-15 minutes, meanwhile the bartender had time to stay engaged with his phone. As for the food, my po' boy was disproportional in many aspects: 8 medium sized shrimp on a 9-10" hoagie with shredded iceberg lettuce that's a few days past its prime, tomatoes that reflect their industrial grown roots, and a remoulade whose only purpose is to introduce sauciness without significant flavor...the most distinguishing flavor came from their selection of pickle slices. If you order fries for your side, I suggest you specify extra crispy and prepare to add extra salt (of course, try them first, since everyone's tastes differ slightly.) I will say, the hush puppies and fried clams are pretty good.

Yelp
Everything was delicious. It's like it was cooked in butter the way my food melter in my mouth. The staff was very friendly. It would've been 5 stars but $36 for 1 piece of fish, 3 oysters,3 shrimp, 5 scallops and fries was pretty steep.

Yelp
A bit on the pricey side, but a great spot for date night. Spacious seating but the parking is cramped at peak times, but the food will be worth it. They rotate some amazing specials. The appetizers are incredible, seriously order one of each. The servers handle the busy times pretty well.
google avatar

Michele R.

Yelp
Disappointing. Two of us at our table got the Cant'n BLT w chicken. It comes with fries. The sandwich was missing the bacon. We had to continually ask for missing things including knives. Another person got the Grouper sandwich and there was more bread than the sliver portion of fish. We all agreed the fries were lacking flavor and were heavy. Not worth the price. The ambiance was good, as expected.
google avatar

Angie E.

Yelp
The food is deplorable. No flavor eh. So nasty I mean come on, where's the salt. I had the calamari, what breading is used? It taste like nothing. The smash burger is an embarrassment with a dry piece of meat, at least cook it medium and the lady who brought it out (not my server) was rude. I ordered the peach mango margarita which was nothing but syrup and liquor and when I told them I didn't like it they refused to take it back. Learn customer service. You can't force me to pay for nasty food. Just gross Stay home, don't bother

Yelp
Joei did a fantastic job taking care of us. She was attentive, provided great recommendations, and was super kind. The shrimp and grits were consistent with last time (yum!), the crab cakes were actually only one crab cake but still tasty, and my hubby enjoyed the clam strips. The french fries were dusted with magic & were super delish! The bathroom was very clean, as was the dining room. It has a beachy decor with sports on tv and jazzy reggae music. The parking situation is easy- there is street parking right outside, a parking lot behind and a parking garage if necessary down the block. We'll be back!!

Yelp
It was our first time at Salty Mule and we went with a group. We lucked out when a party didn't show and we were able to be seated. It was a very lively atmosphere. We had the peel & eat shrimp appetizers and my fiancé loved it. He got the pasta (big creole guy) and he loved it and devoured his left overs the next day I got the pick two and the mahi mahi was so wonderfully cooked. It was better than I've had at the beach! The green beans were cooked good too. The mushroom risotto was not my favorite- but it was my first time ever trying risotto so it could be my texture issue. We can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Yelp
The only thing missing from our trip to The Salty Mule was a beach with waves. The moment you set foot in the restaurant you're immediately transported to a hang where you'd expect to see all the locals posted up in on the Gulf. The vibe is absolutely spot on! The menu is the perfect cure for the "I need to go to the beach for some seafood" blues. The only problem we had was deciding what to get since there were so many selections. What we had (shrimp and oysters) was cooked to perfection. And the fries and hushpuppies were SO good! Lauren was an excellent host and was attentive. We loved it so much, we're already planning our next get away to The Salty Mule.

Yelp
Food is extremely good here, fish and chips are my go to. Very open place and the service is super friendly. If you are visiting downtown Canton or live here and haven't been here, I would for sure give this place a try.
google avatar

Bird L.

Yelp
The best red shrimp I've ever had! Raw oysters also good but small. Impressive menu. Gotta go back. Often.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Whole belly clams!!! Fresh cut fries! New England clam chowder was delicious. Such a great vibe, feels like you are at the beach. Service was amazing! If you are looking for a new place to try this is definitely the one!
google avatar

Lanie L.

Yelp
This place never disappoints, I normally love the shrimp and grits but yesterday I branched out and tried something new and let me tell you, AMAZING!! The Grouper Orleans was fantastic and so flavorful. The cajun cream sauce was a perfect touch. Fish was juicy and tender with a slight crisp!! I could of eaten 2 of these!! The gator bites are always mouthwatering. They had the big garage doors in front opened up to feel the light breeze and get fresh air and just a pleasant time all around. Seriously though, don't sleep on this grouper!!
google avatar

S T.

Yelp
Fried shrimp basket the first visit, I was looking forward to the house cut French fries but they came luke warm. But the shrimp and hush puppies were very good. Second visit was with a group and I went with Shrimp and Grits which were excellent. Generous serving, authentic recipe and darn tasty. The place was almost full and we got our meals fairly quick. Everyone enjoyed their choices. Next time I'd ask for freshly fried French fries, still that's no reason to give less than five stars.

Chad W.

Yelp
Best place in metro Atlanta for great seafood/service in a fun atmosphere. If you like places that remind you of being on the beach in Florida this is it!
google avatar

Keith F.

Yelp
This place was much larger on the inside than I thought including a large beach themed bar. We sat at the tables and like others have mentioned they are sticky. The service was ok. The people near us were getting annoyed because of the wait time but our server was fine. The food was mostly quite good. For the apps the fried pickles were delicious and it is a large serving. I would order those again. The fried green tomatoes presented themselves beautifully but were hard as rocks and nearly inedible. I ate one slice and called it quits. The choose two was a great choice for me. I had my shrimp and scallops blackened. They were cooked and seasoned just right! The mushroom risotto was also quite good. It was a nice sized serving and I would definitely order that part again. The sweet potatoes fries were a mix of mushy and crispy. I'm not sure how that happened but they were just ok. If also suggest offering a dipping sauce. Overall this place has a lot going for it. I would certainly come back.

Yelp
I recently came here and the for the most part, the meal was very good. I tried the Cajun Boudin Balls, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Captain's Platter. Let me get the not so great out of the way. The Fried Green Tomatoes were terribly crunchy. And by crunchy, I mean, the green tomatoes themselves were very hard and crunch...like apples. The batter was wonderfully seasoned and the sauces were delicious. But it was truly ashamed that the tomatoes weren't good. Additionally, the hush puppies were fried too long and tasted of burn. Everything else was fantastic! The Boudin Balls were perfectly seasoned, nicely fried and complimented perfectly by the remoulade sauce. The Captain's Platter has fish, shrimp, scallop, and oysters accompanied by slaw, hush puppies, and fries. The slaw was decent, the fries were ok, and hush puppies previously discussed. The fried fish, shrimp, and scallop were delicious and perfectly cooked. The fried oysters were good I suppose, but I can never stomach the texture of oysters in any preparation so I can't honestly say if they were how they should be, but I tried one and it tasted great. Lastly, the service for Ashley was great. I would definitely come back to try more of what they have to offer.

Yelp
A local seafood spot in downtown Canton where you can get some really unique seafood choices. We tried the alligator tail, bang bang shrimp ( the sauce is the spice) ,and fried conch for starters. While consuming a few cocktails. If you like ciders we recommend the joker a crisp apple cider ale with a pretty cool label. We then moved on to the entree and I tried the fish and chips. Very crunchy on the outside and well cooked and moist on the inside. If fried is not your fancy the grilled flounder and scallops are delicious!!! You seasoned the scallops perfectly. Bravo!
google avatar

JoAnn B.

Yelp
Jodi was our sweet server...great service! My husband loved the Oysters, I forgot to take a picture of them, he also had the Mahi Mahi sandwich and I had the shrimp and fries. We weren't crazy about the fries, but the Mahi and Shrimp were Fantastic! The coleslaw was good, just too small! It was the same size as the tartar sauce!
google avatar

Tiffany R.

Yelp
They have new seating and their food is great quality and services great and great drink menu and they generally have specials
google avatar

Stuart S.

Yelp
Had a great time, we ordered the conch fritters for an app and they were very tasty, not over cooked not mushy. Right after that we ordered 6 raw oysters and they were great! Then our kids arrived then we moved to the salty mule and several IPAs. I ordered the fried pair, the scallops and the oysters with hush puppies and the option for a Brussels sprouts side. Off the charts great eatings, the. The rest of the group ordered oysters Rockefeller Cajun pasta, and sautéed scallops. I could not say a bad thing either because I was already buzzed or I was In a great mood tonight. To top it off there was a band tonight in downtown canton, a Chicago cover band, was quite entertaining. And, yes we danced despite the cringe effect it had on our kids... LOL
google avatar

Courtney T.

Yelp
Pretty good first visit to The Salty Mule! We were seated promptly which was a nice surprise for a Saturday night. We ordered one traditional margarita since on Saturday's they're $7. It was what you would expect for a $7 drink. Definitely wouldn't order it again. The fried clam strips came with coleslaw, hush puppies, and house fries. They were very good! The double smash burger was just ok-my partner said "it's what you would expect from a seafood restaurant serving burgers." Service was so so, our waitress seemed swamped so we didn't get checked on once we got our food and we had to flag people down when we needed refills.
google avatar

Lisa D.

Yelp
Sitting here now and when I say we enjoyed our food and the service was great. We will be back. The Chargrilled Oysters, Bang Bang Shrimp, Hush Puppies and our waitress Bella will be the reason we will be back soon. The live artist made the ambience great as well.
google avatar

Mark Y.

Yelp
This place has a good beach vibe. There are many drink options and specials. Food (mostly seafood items) is prepared well. I opted for the fisherman's platter where you can pick the fish items you want. Portion size could be a little bigger but overall was satisfied. Service was very good.
google avatar

Ami C.

Yelp
Had an amazing mid-week date night with the hubs last night here. We have been looking for GOOD, FRESH, seafood and we found it! It was our first time in and we both agreed it will be a regular spot for us! Everything from the food, to the cocktails, to our new favorite waitress, was a great experience! Kudos to the chef for the flavors of everything we ordered that worked perfectly together! Our order: Bayou fresh gator tail Cajun boudin balls Dozen raw oysters Blackened Mahi Seared scallops
google avatar

Anne D.

Yelp
Heard we should visit on Cherokee Connect. Do not go here. When I asked for plates when the appetizer was brought, I caught attitude from Kylie, the waitress. When our meals arrived, the fried okra was from a freezer bag with no sauce. The mahi mahi was dry as the desert. My daughters' tuna was so over seasoned that it was inedible. My husbands pasta was supposed to be creamy sauce and was not. The beer was warm and I wish I would have read the reviews prior to going. Crossing fingers we don't get sick.
google avatar

Faye S.

Yelp
The oysters and calamari is really good and the fish is even better. They have ha different way of cooking the calamari. If you could add some form of entertainment would be great.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
What was decent: The atmosphere was pretty cool with the open air seating. The older man at the front that seated us was super friendly. I think his name was Roger. The beer was cold. The fish bucket tasted good but had hardly any alcohol in it. It was also overpriced. Not so good: The service, not the best. Our very young waitress was quick when she came to our table, as if we were an inconvenience to her social life at the bar. We had to constantly track her down just to get a drink refill. The place only had about 12 patrons on a Friday at 3pm but somehow, our waitress was more concerned about socializing with the locals at the bar rather than helping our table. The Alaskan oysters were tiny, gritty and very overpriced. The oysters were definitely not shucked correctly. They had so much grit and grain in them that they almost chipped my tooth. We wanted to give the oysters another opportunity so we tried the happy hour oysters, they were better but still not my favorite. A BIG PASS on the "pretzel" and beer cheese sauce. The "pretzel" was more like a weird brown bread (definitely not a pretzel) with no salt and the beer cheese sauce was extremely runny. If you are looking for a cool atmosphere, cold beer and an open-air table, this is your place. Just don't have high expectations on service or food. Hopefully things will improve.

Yelp
First time coming to enjoy some seafood like we are in Florida. It did not disappoint. We were here for lunch so not busy but extremely attentive and friendly waitress. I had a draft beer and started with the buffalo shrimp appetizer which were cooked perfectly. I then had the fried clam strip basket just like Ho Jo use to do. The mile sauce if wonderful. Check it out when you get a chance
google avatar

Yelp
Horrible food Great service Food was not done first time, not seasoned Very disappointed

Yelp
1:30 Saturday lunch...business was great!!!! Slight wait to be seated. Our server was a delight! Very attentive. Hubby had Blackened Mahi Mahi w/fries and delish hush puppies. Myself shrimp.tacos with beautifully delish strawberry slaw, bacon Brussels and fries. Sooooo Much Food!!!!! Our lunch total was $52 before tip. Music, atmosphere and food all wonderful!!
google avatar

Krystle And Bennett A.

Yelp
My family ate here a couple weeks ago and were very underwhelmed. We started with the bang bang shrimp and received 5 shrimp for $15. Definitely overpriced, but this was the best part of the meal. My husband and I both did the you pick two seafood dishes. I had the fried oysters and grilled grouper. I could not even chew the oysters so I ate 2 and couldn't even eat the other 3. The grouper was not very good either but at least edible. My husband had the scallops and grouper and he wasn't impressed but said it wasn't bad. We both got the mushroom risotto as one of our sides. My husband liked it but I thought it was terrible--no flavor. I also got the Brussels sprouts which were pretty good. I believe my husband got the bacon creamed corn and liked it. I can't remember what our kids got but it was typical kid food. Our waitress was very nice and offered our daughters her color pens to draw with when they were upset. But she lacked in other areas. My husband's drink was constantly empty, never refilled my water, didn't take plates away that were in our way (which matters with young kids). They did have live music which was nice. We didn't drink alcohol as I'm pregnant so can't speak to the alcoholic drinks but lots of people were drinking. All in all I don't recommend for food and will not be back for a meal.

Yelp
This place didn't seem like much but the food was awesome. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to stay after closing while they cleaned up.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is awesome. The food is great. The vibe is awesome with the reggae music and laid back atmosphere. I long for the ocean. The prices are what you would expect. Lots of great drinks to choose from.

Yelp
Meh....I should have known! 12:00 in a week day and only 2 people in the restaurant?? The decor was nice, beer was cold, magician that sat us was entertaining, server was pleasant and the food (disappointing)! You have authentic leidenheimer bread and no clue how to serve it, oh my gosh!! Grouper fish was skimpy and thrown on dry bread uuugh. Smash burger was good quality meat but here again served on a dry unloved bun and tasted fishy. Fries where on the soggy side and I asked if they could send them out crispy and some sort of sugar/salt on them, what the heck? Not sure what is going on in the kitchen but it is not pure intent for good food. What a shame....good place for a cold beer though

Charles C.

Yelp
We love this place! The atmosphere is wonderful. The food is pretty good. The service is excellent, and overall, it's a great experience. If you're lucky, there's a magician that is there, and will do tricks for you. Their mules are great, and we have not gotten past the fried clam basket nor the fried grouper basket. Both are great! Give them a shot!
google avatar

Chuck C.

Yelp
We discovered The Salty Mule a few weeks ago and have since returned. It is tough to find Clam Strips and theirs are pretty darn good. The fried grouper basked is also very good Stand out dishes are the Cole slaw and the Brussels sprouts. Both are amazing. We also tried a couple of the "Mule" drinks and enjoyed them as well. Great ambiance, great service, great food and decently priced.

George F.

Yelp
This is more of a note to the owner as a review of the restaurant. We've been eating here since the place first opened. Food has always been good, decent service, good atmosphere, fair prices. Last night was ridiculous. I checked the website to see about the wait times, and there was no waiting list. Arrived about 6:30. The front room was fairly full, but about half of the tables in the bar side were empty. The hostess apologized and told us that the manager told her not to seat any more customers. The kitchen was backed up and the wait would be over 2 hours for food. Come on! It's not like you have a world class chef preparing intricate dishes. You're shucking oysters and frying fish. Either you have the wrong people in the kitchen, or not enough to do the job on a Thursday night. We will try again, but I'm not happy this time.
google avatar

Gerald F.

Yelp
Now when I considered eating at this restaurant with my sneaky link, we expected to find ourself in dismay at the choices, but the food made me want to oil up and go to munch town!! The colorful flavors in the oysters had us going simply berserk on the staff! I wish my grandson was there to share in the salty delights and scents wafting from the kitchen (that could have also been my sneaky link's unbalanced PH, dont tell my wife) Anyways! This food was better than the vodka I guzzle down after beatin' my grandson! It really made me want to stop seeing my psychiatrist
google avatar

Connolly V.

Yelp
The zesty calamari was yummy little powerful on the lemon but I would definitely get it again and the Orange diva wheat Beer is very refreshing. A cool relaxing atmosphere.

Rick M.

Yelp
Belinda and I go to the Salty Mule once or twice a week and sit at the bar. Food is ALWAYS on pony, service outstanding, and the owner is NEVER drunk from drinking coffee The previous poster, April, must have been off her meds as her review isNOT close to accurate. Salty Mule will easily keep their doors open without the likes of "April"

Terry B.

Yelp
Excellent variety of seafood selections. We had oysters and the flounder fish. Service was exceptional being they were very busy.

Holly S.

Yelp
Sooo good. Everything on the menu is so good. Lobster rolls... really everything has been on point. Found this place about 6 months ago and have dined there frequently since. (They are approximately 30 minutes away from my house). Worth the drive.
google avatar

Yelp
The Salty Mule has only been open about 2 days and you would never be able to tell by the way this business is operating. Very covid compliant, good spacing of tables but still has plenty of seating with the staff wearing masks and hand sanitizer throughout the restaurant. A well trained staff, very knowledgeable servers that know the menu and can explain and recommend different dishes. I like the fact that you can kinda create your own meal by using the "Build Your Own" part of the menu. I did the Blacked Grouper and scallops and it was delicious. They have so many wonderful sides I just wanted to order every one. But went with the bacon cream corn and the mushroom risotto. The flavors were fantastic. And if you are going to a beach type restaurant I always have to try the New England Clam Chowder. It was a definite home run. They also have an oyster bar and full service bar and the mixologist can blend a traditional or beach drink that's smooth and very tasty. Live music will be there soon. One of the owners (Scott) came over to the table and chatted for a few minutes. Very personable with many years of experience. I believe he has a winning recipe for a successful business. And I just love his motto on the menu... "The beach is not always a place, sometimes it's a feeling." So if you can't get down to the Gulf or the coast. Then the Salty Mule will bring the Gulf to you!! Another winner in Historic Downtown Canton!!

Aaron K.

Yelp
Food was really good. Service was good as well. The restaurant has a very unique style nice experience.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Service was over the top awesome. Fried green tomatoes so yum. Grouper was delicious!

Yelp
We enjoyed our visit and received great service from Derek. Nice beach bar type atmosphere. The fried Clam Strips were the best I've had in the Atlanta area. Fried Shrimp and Chargrilled oysters were also very good. I was not overly impressed with the Shrimp & Grits or creamed corn, and I've never seen a 2 ounce serving of Cole Slaw before. Overall it was a good experience and can't wait to go back for the Fried Clams!
