Salty Roan absolutely has the best bread and pastries in Abilene! Tired of squishy chemically bread? You've found the real deal. Looking for a real baguette with European texture and taste? This is your place. Looking for sourdough that has actual flavor? This is it. Want a melt-in-your-mouth almond croissant? You got it. After living overseas and in big cities and being spoiled with access to world-class bakeries, I'm so glad these amazing folks have opened up right here in town! I've been coming here a few times a month since they opened; for small business meetings, quick lunches, breakfast dates, coffee dates, and just to pick up loaves of bread to take home. The staff behind the counter are wonderful and always friendly, and the bakers seem to have fun experimenting and giving us new culinary pastry experiences each time we go in. We're lucky to have y'all here! Keep up the amazing work! EDIT: The bacon/egg/avocado toast in the photo was made with their sourdough, and the caviar bites were made with their baguette.

I've recently moved away from Abilene and I'll miss this place the most! Everything is so fresh, delicious, and the restaurant is very clean. The employees are also incredibly kind and warm. My favorite things here are the almond croissants, monkey bread, and sour dough! I'll definitely be stopping by whenever I'm driving through town.

Google
A classic bakery with a nice ambiance — a great spot to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea. Cozy atmosphere and peaceful vibes. I may just come back again!

Google
Got there for breakfast with all my family. Spend 36$ for 2 adults and 2 children . Everything was perfect! Croissants, danish, quiche 🤤 Missed so much good bakery items and was happy to ended up there!

Google
Y'ALL! Do not sleep on this bakery! It is phenomenal! The house coffee is soooo good. You can get anything from a cake pop to a peach pie. Freshly baked goods such as cinnamon rolls, crustless quiches, coffee cakes, ham and cheese croissants, buns, sticky buns, and the options are endless. There is a great indoor seating. Let's talk about how amazing staff are. They are the friendliest group of young women and so accommodating despite being extremely busy on July 4th. I can not express in words how wonderful our experience was. Parking is a little tight, but you won't be disappointed.

Google
This is my favorite spot in Abilene for breakfast or a sweet treat. They always have a great variety of options. I recently tried the sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich, which was fantastic. I also enjoyed a deliciously sweet chocolate chip muffin. Their coffee is good as well. I normally get a vanilla, hazelnut latte with almond milk. If you live in Abilene and you haven't been here yet, you are definitely missing out.

Google
Experience is everything! The quality of the food, paired with outstanding customer service, makes this place truly one of a kind. It has a great coffee shop atmosphere—warm, inviting, and relaxing. I highly recommend this bakery!

Google
Come on now, Salty Roan! Strawberry lemon cupcake, blueberry muffin, ham and cheese croissant, and a Texas loaf (sliced on the spot). These folks are super friendly and patient. Product is incredibly fresh and delicious. We wanted to go down the line and get one of everything, but decided to exercise self-control this time. There will be multiple ventures to continue to try everything! We are also happy to buy a sourdough loaf from a local business! Salty Roan is next level tasty.

Yelp
Absolutely the best! Their sausage danish is so yummy with a perfectly soft yet flakey breading. The quality here really stands out. On Fridays they have pizzas, which are really yummy. Cozy and comfortable inside. They also have a drive thru if you wanna stop by and grab a treat. Parking is pretty limited.

Yelp
Had the chicken salad. It needed some salt, no flavor and the bread was too much. The peach tea was just ok.

Yelp
I have been a regular customer of this fine establishment. Excellent pastries, good bread, and great atmosphere. However, the quality of their food has been on a downhill trajectory for a while. Quiches are wonderful choices for breakfast but not sure whether they use real eggs or egg powder for the quiches. Pastries are great but consistently look burnt. Their coffee are terrible literally taking the mantle of the worst coffee in town. There are better alternatives like Front Porch. I don't normally post bad reviews but hopefully this will cause an internal review of their practices and what they can do to improve their food quality. Also, customer service is nonexistent... no eye contact, no "good mornings", no smiles, no urgency to provide quality service.

Yelp
Talk about your outstanding small local business!!! This place rocks! Beware though, the sweet treat temptations are irresistible. Great service too! We always try to have some of their sourdough bread in hand at the house!

Yelp
You won't find better pastries or better coffee in Abilene. This is now on my must visit list everytime I am in Abilene.

Bonnie W.

Yelp
Driving through, wanted a good pastry and coffee that wasn't watery. This was perfect. The pastry was so delicious (monkey bread), and the coffee was excellent. It was well worth the stop. The staff was friendly and service was quick.

Duana C.

Yelp
Good pastries and coffee. I liked that they had gluten-free pastries. Iced coffee's were good also.

Yelp
Well, I've been told this place is wonderful! I still can't eat after surgery, but I can sure buy! There are 3 women in my life. My dearest wife, Glenda, and two wonderful older neighbors, Linda and Susan. If one gets a treat, everybody gets a treat! I got here early so the selection was still quite good. Two cinnamon rolls for Linda and Susan, and a blueberry muffin for Glenda. All three said it was wonderful. The cookies and scones looked delicious! Individual quiches in several flavors. Anything you want for a morning treat, and some really good coffee! Be sure and stop by Salty Roan!

Yelp
Omg. I'm so mad we just discovered this place because this is our last day in Abilene! I got the croissant, almond croissant, sausage danish, ham & cheese beschmel (idk if I spelled that right), macadamia nut cookie, snickerdoodle cookie, and walnut muffin! EVERYTHING was. So. So. Soooooo good. My favorite was the walnut muffin and that wasn't even mine, that was my sons. Haha. The workers were knowledgeable about their items and were so kind to my babies. The inside was so cute. Exactly what I picture a bakery to be like. I wish I could come back. Yum.

Yelp
The hardest part about being here is deciding what tasty treat to get! I got a cheese danish and apple sausage danish. My latte was delicious and creamy (and was good even without syrup). Servers were very friendly/helpful. Highly recommend checking this place out for anyone in Abilene.

Yelp
Great find, delicious!!! Good luck choosing what to get first. I had the Blueberry Danish and my husband had the bacon egg and cheese Danish. Soooo yummy, great service! We will be back!
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
I tried the coffee cake and cinnamon roll. $11 for that was kind of a shock. The coffee cake was not good. The cinnamon roll was excellent!

Marissa W.

Yelp
Everything is delicious. They have bread that they can slice in-store for you. They have gluten-free options and there's way more than just sweets. Salads, sandwiches, quiches, and the most delicious coffees!
google avatar

Sherry E.

Yelp
This place is great. Atmosphere is wonderful. Staff is friendly. Very comfortable nice setting.

Carrie G.

Yelp
Iced latte is always the same so I love that. The gluten free options are all amazing. Lots to choose from. The sourdough is so good! All the servers are awesome but Emerly (hope I spelled that right) is my favorite food options are really good as well. Only thing I have to complain about is they are closed Mondays so I have to make my coffee myself and I don't get my chocolate chip cookie

Yelp
The inside of this place is right out of a movie because of its wonderful style and dining area. They had a beautiful selection of pastries that it was hard to choose. We had a sticky bun and it was delicious. The coffee was fresh and decent. Everyone had smiles on their face and was so friendly. Will definitely be stopping here again.

Steffen H.

Yelp
I love the baked goods! But twice now, a month apart, I've gone through the drive-thru and no one acknowledged my presence after waiting for over 5 minutes each time. I had to leave to make it to work on time. Very disappointing.

Yelp
I went here for the first time yesterday. I got a peaches and cream tart, a sticky bun, a cheese danish, and a huckleberry tea. My favorite was the peaches and cream tart. It had a flake crunchy slightly chewy outside that caressed fresh slices of peaches over a smooth sweet cream. The sticky bun was kind of like a cinnamon roll with a melted caramel butter and pecan top (which I like a whole lot more than the usual Royal icing found on cinnamon rolls). The cheese danish looked like a bread pinwheel with a sweet creamy cheese filling. I wish it had more cheese, but it tasted good nonetheless. The huckleberry tea was just black tea with huckleberry syrup. They left the tea bag in the water too long so it tasted dry and bitter to me. I may not get their tea next time, but I will DEFINITELY be back for that peaches and cream and to try out more of their menu. All in all, this is a place I recommend if you looking for something sweet!

Megan C.

Yelp
We tried the lavender lemon bar, cowboy cookie, snickerdoodle cookie and the blueberry scone. They were all really good! For drinks we had an iced white chocolate latte, honey latte and Carmel latte. They were good as well, they had very rich coffee tones with just a hint of flavor. The service was prompt even with many people in line. The mood of the place was very chill, it would be a great place to study or get work done; my family and I were just passing through. I would definitely come back!

Denise S.

Yelp
Food is good. A bit overpriced. Service is really bad. Employees ignore you. It's like they are afraid of selling anything.

Yelp
This is an amazing little place to come and get some studying or socializing done. The coffee is good, the baked goods are absolutely incredible (I have to recommend the sticky buns), and the people here are really nice. The whole shop is set up with lots of little tables and power outlets, so it's easy to find a nook to sit down at with your computer and hammer out some work. I wish I had found this place earlier! Overall, this is my new favorite coffee shop in Abilene; I can't recommend it enough.

Yelp
Best bakery in Abilene! And this small city has some good choices. They have a great selection of pastries and the cold brew light is really good. I like to go before work, it's always east to get in and out. I went on a Saturday and it was packed but still worth the wait. Definitely try this place out.

Viell B.

Yelp
We tried their cinnamon rolls today, it was freshly baked. It's warm and so soft, everything is just perfect! Not too sweet, not too strong cinnamon! I don't usually leave comments/reviews (good or bad) but since my child with sensory issues loves it and was able to consume the WHOLE piece in one sitting, which I THOUGH was big for him, I can't help but let you know how good it is. it seems like we're gonna be around pretty often because our kid is very picky

Leesa P.

Yelp
We were greeted promptly by a friendly young girl but that's as good as it got. We ordered a pizza, which was sitting on the counter , she picked it up and put it in a box. I reminded her we were eating there. She gave it to us cold and i had to ask her to heat it up. Who eats cold pizza at the restaurant? It was terrible. I ate two bites, my husband choked down a small slice and we left the rest. The pictures they post on Facebook are the result of creative photography obviously. Truly disgusting food. Not impressed at all!

Yelp
favorite bakery in town and they have the best croissants! they have lots of seating inside and a drive through.
google avatar

Yelp
Thee BEST Almond croissants ANYWHERE! Every lady that works there is very nice and professional. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the almond croissant & pies. Also a great place to hangout with a friend & have coffee.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
DELICIOUS!! Every single thing is so good! They roast Merit coffee and serve unbelievable pastries and offer gluten free options. They have a slightly partitioned area for kids that have hot wheels cars and books. Sweet and informed staff and a gorgeous display of food. Can't recommend enough!
google avatar

Rose S.

Yelp
I loved this place when they first opened. Abilene really needed somewhere unique for breakfast. But on my last 2 visits, the prices have gone way up ($5 for one almond croissant) and it wasn't fresh- my shirt ate much more of this pastry than I did. It was hard, and crumbly. Sad way to start my work day

Yelp
This place is so wonderful! You can smell the baked goodies from the street and through the drive thru. It's the coziest for so many reasons & the employees make you feel so at home! Their coffee is really yummy & the croissants are flaky and wonderful. If you haven't been here, you need to go. It's good for the soul.

Ashleigh F.

Yelp
They have very friendly, efficient service and the pastries all look delicious. I wanted to try so many things!
google avatar

Yelp
I stopped in on Saturday to get an iced shaken shortie! It was one of the best iced coffee I've ever had!

Robert H.

Yelp
Great food, wonderful people, reasonable price, fresh baked pastries & fresh ground coffee !!

Stephanie A.

Yelp
First GOOD cup of coffee I've had since moving to TX! Thank the Lord!!! Brought my squadron of kids here for a morning treat. We tried a few different pastries & shared. The croissants were incredible! My cardamom cupcake a tad too spiced. The snickerdoodle was perfect. They have a little area towards the back with an awesome table & chess set & some baby toys. Definitely our new favorite coffee kick it.

Zane Z.

Yelp
Tons of amazing baked good options to go with their various coffee choices. Love to see places like this in Abilene!
google avatar

Carrie K.

Yelp
Tasty but over priced. $23 for two small lattes and two pastries is a little much in my opinion. Chocolate croissants were delicious.

Janey S.

Yelp
My husband found this place today. He brought me two absolutely wonderful gluten free treats. I'll be coming this week. Soooo good. Can't wait to see the store and get some goodies.
google avatar

Karely T.

Yelp
I love their coffee and pastry options. I got the tres leches gluten free cupcake. I also got the shaken shorty coffee and it was both 10/10. Absolutely coming back :)

Erin T.

Yelp
Everything here is amazing and decadent! Love the pastries. The sandwiches on their homemade bread take lunch to another level!

Trey V.

Yelp
The best place in town and all surrounding areas for your favorite baked treats! The cinnamon rolls are to die for, and they have a ham and cheese croissant with gravy inside that will seriously turn your world around. I just ate mine and my mouth is watering thinking about it again. Not only that, but the staff is super friendly and helpful! Cozy, western, rustic feel. Perfect for our west Texas town! Go check them out!

Page C.

Yelp
Food is great, the house coffee is on the bitter side and is the temperature of McDonalds coffee...which, isn't a great thing. This would be 5 stars if it wasn't for the ordering design; why is there no menu posted in the establishment? There is half a wall beside the que that could easily have a menu put on it so that people could be prepared, rather than eyeing the display (which is lovely) and trying to figure it out...only to see something else halfway through and want that instead. Just creates a weird gaggle of people.

Olivia O.

Yelp
I've been waiting to try this place and they finally opened a location close to my house. The inside of the Bakery is very welcoming. There are so many treats, it's hard to choose . The cinnamon bun and the monkey bread are amazing. The other treats that I picked out for my co-worker, they had no complaints and wanted more. Definitely plan on going back again.

Rebecca M.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! I've been wanted to come her for a while now and finally got the chance! We were greeted by 2 nice young lady's who were very welcoming and had us out in no time! Will be coming again.
