Stopped in here out of pure luck! Gluten free options, pescatarian / vegetarian breakfast options & decaf espresso available! I had the brekkie sandwich with gluten free bread and added snow crab on a whim. IMMACULATE! So delicious. My partner got the regular version and it was also a winner. The staff was so warm and friendly. Highly recommend.

Google
We stopped for breakfast on our road trip! What a great spot! Everything was delicious and had the perfect flavor and texture. The staff were so friendly. I wish this place was in my home town! I’d go every week!

Google
We came here for breakfast after a stay at the groovy goat. The breakfast sandwich was awesome! They had a high chair for our 9 month old and made a scrambled egg for her as well! This cafe was so cute! Coffee was great!

Google
Loved my overall visit to the cafe. All their sandwiches are yum along with coffee, team and hot chocolate Would definitely recommend to visit if in the area

Google
Lovely hidden gem, food was amazing, staff is lovely, so many products from locals artist and handmade jewelry faired priced! Would recommend to anyone to stop by.

Google
The Periwinkle Cafe has one of THE BEST lobster rolls we've ever had. It rivals Maine, USA. Very generous amount of lobster without filler...just a perfect sandwich!

Google
Delicious coffee, I didn’t expect the cups to be this big! Pleasantly surprised 😌 I didn’t stay in the rooms, but seems like a nice place to stay, sweet view and a donkey across the road. 5 ⭐️

Google
Beautiful little cafe, lovely atmosphere and great food. We highly recommend the breakfast sandwich with crab or smoked salmon and homemade iced tea.

Yelp
Cute little cafe, looks like a home turned into cafe and craft store. The lavender fog is very fragrant, definitely it if you are a lavender fan. I just felt like it wasn't hot enough. Orange Almond Granola is pretty good as well. I like how they have an option to make it vegan with almond milk.

Yelp
Adore this spot. Cute name & aesthetic. Gluten free options including cinnamon twist muffin (pictured) and amaretti cookie - both very tasty! Coffee was also delicious and the iced coffee my friends got came in cute glasses with enviro-conscious paper straws with designs in them. There are also lights on the patio for evening vibes. The attached shop sells local items including some from the Mi'kmaq First Nation. As a bonus, it is next to the petting farm so you can combine your morning coffee with a quick visit to see the goats, donkeys, and other farm animals next door. Overall, highly recommend this stop if you're in Ingonish!

Yelp
We were desperately looking for coffee after driving many miles on the trail and just by sheer luck we found this cafe ( didn't use google search ). Cozy cafe, good food option and coffees and an art store too. We ordered deluxe veg sandwich, it was nice plus the rose petals made the sandwich very aromatic, loved it. Coffee was nice too, we also ordered strawberry gelato sandwich, this was a good bite but a little too sweet for us. Overall a great place for a tasty bite and refreshing coffee.

Yelp
Such a cute little cafe and craft spot in the Ingonish area so close to the national park along the Cabot trail. We got their drip coffee, cheddar scone and another egg bacon muffin kinda thing. We liked the scone a lot. But the real attraction is how cute the coffee shop is. The staff is really friendly too. They have petting animals across but we didn't spend time there. We got our food and coffee and we were off to hiking after fueling up. They have a large parking lot too which is great but you do see quite a few cars first thing in the morning.

Ashley A.

Yelp
Delightful & delicious! The lobster roll was stuffed full of lobster on a buttery brioche bun and the brekkie sandwich was on a pillowy English muffin with a tasty sauce. We also had a fantastic latte and a yummy sparkling cider on tap. After lunch we shopped in the gift shop which had gorgeous jewelry and handmade gifts. What a gem!

Yelp
Best coffee I've had on Cape Breton. Their almond milk latte was awesome. If you get a chance, try the food out too. The ricotta toast with rhubarb jam was out of this world, and I had a bite of the hitchhiker special which was also delicious.

Rachel C.

Yelp
Very good latte, excellent breakfast sandwich, efficient and friendly, bohemian atmosphere

Yelp
Had been trying to go here for 2 years and it was a let down. The food was Hideous! Their egg sandwiches were a step up from what I imagine a fried vomit sandwich tastes like. Poor selection of food. Hard cinnamon rolls. Grotesque cheese biscuits made with cheap cheddar, not much else. Nice paintings, sort of. Bought one for my daughter by a local artist, so the trip here wasn't a complete bust. My husband seemed ok with his egg sandwich, so... Choices of lattes, etc

Yelp
News of the Crab Sandwich at the Periwinkke Cafe had spread to Baddeck and you're advised to not miss it (talking of missing it, the cafe signage is very low key, so use GPS). Between the tasteful decor, the lovely owner and staff, the yummy treats, there's not a spot in the place that isn't a treat for the senses. BTW, great coffee too. Not jaded at all. 5 stars.

Yelp
Truly a gem in Ingonish. First, the truth about Ingonish -it opens after 9 and shuts down at 6. Very hard to find good food. Hence, this unobtrusive coffee shop/restaurant/bar/inn is such a surprise. Our first night in Ingonish we walked there. Music was playing - Aaron and Heather - and they were excellent. We had a lovely cider - apple/cranberry "Rebel Rose" - which was delicious (and we aren't cider people). We sat outside and enjoyed the ambience and good time. We had several coffees there which were excellent. We had a breakfast sandwich: local English muffin, local eggs, nova lox (for me, prosciutto for my wife), arugula, and seasoning which was exceptional. Their Strawberry/Lemonade cake was very tasty. Finally, the service by the young lady who seems to work there all the time was attentive - she even remembered us right after our first visit there. Highly recommend - you could drive by it if you don't look...

Yelp
Cute little cafe. It was open until 9pm in the summer. We just had some baked goods and hot chocolate. Hot chocolate wasn't very sweet. Baked goods were amazing. Probably the cutest place we have been in Nova Scotia.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches to be had! We were able to try this cafe before it closed for the season. We ordered two of their sandwiches and both came open faced on gluten free toast. We also tried their double chocolate gluten free cookie which was sooo good! If you like cafes this is definitely a must try when in Ingonish, Cape Breton.

Yelp
Stopped here after hiking Franey for a coffee and a snack. Friend had recommended this to us. I had the lavender fog-sweet frothy goodness and a generous serving. Husband had a double espresso and we shared a lemon square. It was hard to select a pastry as they all looked amazing! What a cute place-lots of gifts and you can stay there if you book in advance. They serve a substantial breakfast and lunch and have several tables inside and out. A true find but I am guessing it fills up quickly for breakfast. At 1:30 in the afternoon, we did not encounter a crowd. Depending on where we hike, I will be back tomorrow and would consider staying here next year.
google avatar

Ellen M.

Yelp
Yum!!! Cute space with great lattes and breakfast sammies! Add the crab or lobster- generous portions. Highly recommend the lemon square. Artisan shop is sweet with nice locally made items. I will be back!
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Yes. This uber-hipster coffee shop/artisan shop/b&b is worth a stop. My lavender fog and avocado chocolate oat cookie were so good I went back for an oat cappuccino. The sandwiches were fine but pricey! The art/clothes are kind of weird and also pricey(!). Lots of seating inside, but we like sitting outside. Unfortunately there was absolutely no shade and it was very hot when we went, even at 8am. The wait was pretty bad. Things here are slow, so make sure you have some time to chill. Because of our schedule we didn't make it to the goat farm next door, sadly.

Yelp
Trendy little place with good quality food and great dark roast coffee. We split two meals, the breakfast with fish cakes and the English muffin with the egg. The fish cakes had a very fresh fish taste. The dark roast coffee was great! The meal was very good. The portions are moderate, making me think of how the French eat, healthy, modest portions. With our two breakfast entrees and a drip coffee it was $26. I have to share about this kindness. The lady (chef?) In the cafe kindly offered me a cold drink, taking pity on me as I sit with ice on a sprained ankle waiting for my daughter to finish her hike. The delightful tea is a special mixture they've created, and is beautiful too. We enjoyed our visit to this comfortable, cute, and casual place.

Yelp
What a great place! Funky, fun, creative, and delicious. The dishes are thoughtfully prepared by people who care about food and your enjoyment. Treat yourself to a great time and enjoy the ambience and tastes of a cafe done right.

Craig L.

Yelp
Dont complain or 3 star them unless you want backlash lol It is a nice place though. I gave a 3 star and was berated, other 1 2 and 3 stars were not. Kinda funny.

Emily M.

Yelp
Adorable little cafe and also craft/art shop. Excellent coffee. For real. Great interior and also cute outdoor seating if you are so inclined. They serve sandwiches and brunch stuff. They also offer beer and wine. Definitely a great spot to stop and enjoy a bite to eat.
google avatar

Octavia B.

Yelp
This is an adorable and really comfy stop! Lighter side eatery! Great coffees and the service was spectacular! Thanks for sharing a recipe! Try the oatcakes!
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Fresh coffee, fresh home made desserts and probably the only hipsters for 1000 miles!! And hipsters know coffee. This place over looks the ocean and has cute comfy seats and very inviting atmosphere. The lemon poppy seed muffin things were excellent. I highly recommend stopping here to take a coffee break on the Cabot trail. One more thing, they have actual business hours!! Not like the rest of the coffee shops that close at 3-4 in the afternoon
google avatar

Kiva L.

Yelp
Super cute stop on the Cabot trail for a quick bite and coffee. Tried the breakfast sandwich with lobster added - homemade English muffin with a perfectly runny egg. Only thing missing was a crunchy side! Would definitely recommend a pit stop here on your drive!
google avatar

Mathieu H.

Yelp
Very welcoming place, with a friendly staff. We had the Periwinkle breakfast and cinnamon rolls: everything was delicious! Their coffee is also excellent. A must stop in the area!
google avatar

Timothy N.

Yelp
Great spot. Disappointed to find this place at the end of our stay here. Shocked to find such a hip coffee shop so far outside of a major city (Portland Oregon, in my case). Food is delicious, fresh and unique.
google avatar

Yelp
Driving from South Harbour at the top of Cape Breton via Neil's Harbour, an Aussie family in desperate need of a real coffee searched Yelp and found Salty Roses - 20Km away. The Yelp 5 star rating was spot on - best coffee and breakfast roll we have had in Nova Scotia, and for my girls they even had Almond milk - extra kudos team Salty! Power cookie also received the thumbs up! And to top it off there was the coincidental Aussie connection with the owner and her mum (who was visiting from Australia) - keep sharing the coffee and food love - Thank you !!

Yelp
This place was our favorite place to eat on theCabot trail. In fact, if this cafe was in our home town we would be regulars! We ate lunch there one day and went back and got take out for our dinner the next day! The hummus was delicious and the bread fantastic. The people were so kind and lovely and they have a way cool art gallery as well. Don't miss this place.

Yelp
Come here! Little gem of a coffee shop in Ingonish. Great coffee and espresso drinks, (the best we've found in Cape Breton), sweet ambiance, nice and friendly staff. I am currently eating toast made from super yummy bread from a bakery down the road with house made ricotta. Not sure who made the jam but it tastes delish. Also, a delightful smell is wafting in on the breeze and the decor is really nice.

Myria L.

Yelp
Very lovely café. We had some amazing sandwiches and great coffee. The attached shop has a great selection of pottery and jewelry. You can actually watch the gold smith at work. Her pieces are delicate and beautiful.
google avatar

J R.

Yelp
This place was awesome for breakfast. The staff were solid, super friendly, and patient for our undecided appetites. The interior is country/martime/big city all mixed into one without being tacky. Pay attention to the coffee mugs, they were a throwback for me. Coffee is a must. I had both the Americano and medium roast drip. Both were super tasty but I prefer the drip.
google avatar

Michael O.

Yelp
Great place. Good food and drinks. Went several times while visiting the national park for coffee and once for food, and enjoyed everything we had.
google avatar

Carmell B.

Yelp
Excellent coffee brewed with locally sourced beans from North Mountain Berwick, NS! I'd highly recommend the power cookie too, vegan and delicious! The atmosphere had my mom drooling, haha
google avatar

Yelp
Grateful for Yelp reviews that led me here. Top notch Cafe, food, and service. Best lunch in Cape Breton. We had salad (I was dying for some good greens!) and snack playe. I highly recommend both!
google avatar

Deana P.

Yelp
Excellent food and great service. Everyone greeted us as family. We had the crab sandwich and the smoked meat sandwich. We also had numerous desserts and all were delicious!! Highly recommended.
google avatar

Jordan M.

Yelp
Cool place, super friendly staff. It's also a bed and breakfast where we chose to stay. Healthy, earthy foods and excellent quality coffee.
google avatar

Judy L.

Yelp
Excellent fresh food Friendly staff. Crab salad highly recommended!
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
The cafe was adorable. We loved the art work mixed with the cafe. The coffee was good and the lemonade fresh and tart. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Frank D.

Yelp
Had their local snow crab sandwich with homemade mayo on brown bread. Delicious! Nice selection of sandwiches and baked goods. Local beers and good coffee too. Little lacking in table space but it's perfectly fine for takeaway if no tables available. Great little spot for coffee, sandwiches or baked goods . Friendly service too!
google avatar

Wendy S.

Yelp
An amazing find to see an Australian barista behind the coffee machine! Anthony made an awesome flat white from locally, roasted coffee beans. And there were many delicious, home made cakes and muffins everyday including gluten free options. The best coffee on the Cabot Trail!
google avatar

Beth F.

Yelp
Great place, friendly staff. Attached to a cute little shop. We got a latte and a smoothie and both were yummy. Looked like they had some tasty treats too!

Ofir R.

Yelp
Pretty good coffee and tasty baked goods. The view is amazing, the space is clean and inviting.

Tara W.

Yelp
Cozy cafe with several inside tables and a few outdoor picnic tables and Adirondack chairs. Menu varies slightly from day to day: one day they had vegan blueberry muffins, the next rhubarb; one day they offered pancakes; excellent Americano; great Chai; soy milk available; iced tea with lemon; veggie chili. Attached to Salty Rose's local art/craft store and Inn.

Dana R.

Yelp
What an amazing find on our way through the Cabot trail! Great coffee, some of the best gluten free bread I have ever had, enough sandwich choices to satisfy a variety of eaters. Even gluten free dessert options - my husband made quick work of the oat bar and the chocolate chip cookies were perfection. One of those places that makes you sad you are just passing through, because you would surely be a regular.

Steven R.

Yelp
As an owner of a coffee roasterie in the states, I can not so humbly attest to the quality of the cappuccinos (complete with well-steamed milk and latte art) in this refreshingly hip establishment. Great art on the walls. Only had the chance to have the coffee beverage, but the baked products and sandwiches looked far better than food available in more touristy stops along the Cabot Trail.

Mitch C.

Yelp
A wonderful world Café for delicious sandwiches and homemade baked goodies! Coffee, cappuccino and espresso too. All this and a break from Cape Breton fiddle music... We enjoyed Count Basie on an actual LP!

Laurie C.

Yelp
Loved the coffee and the energy balls. Even though we are staying further away from this place for our second night, we are heading out of our way to visit Salty Rose
google avatar

Evan T.

Yelp
perfect selection of teas, and the variety of baked goods are unrivaled on the cape. just go there already! now. buy the things. sip the stuff. and enjoy the sounds of simon & garfunkel from a small radio. Mmmmmmm...

Matthew P.

Yelp
Great espresso, the best I've had in Nova Scotia so far. We had a flat white one day, and a latte the next. I didn't try any of the baked goods, but they looked tasty.
