Highlights

Welcome to Salvaje (sal-va-hay). We are a wine bar with a focus on natural wines. To us, natural wines are made with grapes grown organically on biodynamic farms or at a minimum with sustainability in mind. They are wild fermented with native yeasts, cellared with minimal intervention, and contain little to no sulfates or other additives. Each of the wines we serve reflect most or all of these characteristics. Wines that have a sense of the places they come from -- the climate, soil, and surroundings. These farming and wine making practices along with a wide variety of grapes make each glass of natural wine a unique and memorable experience.

Nice quaint little brunch place and wine bar (they have dinner too). It is a small place, felt cozy. They have a few outdoor seats but go early if you want outdoor seating. The wait staff was attentive but not intrusive. I tried the Las Jaras Glou Glou (red) - was decent. It is served chilled, so something different. The sommelier walked us through the different options, gave us tasting samples. My fellow diner tasted the Kumsha Sav Blanc, she really liked it so she got a carafe. We ordered a biscuit for appetizer but they also got us some olives on the house, which was nice of them. For brunch I got the fried chicken sando, and my fellow diner got the breakfast tacos. The fried chicken was good, had a poached egg - it was done well and was perfectly round. I imagine they pouring it into a template or cutting it after - looked good. The breakfast tacos were decent, tacos were freshly made. Recommend going there for a decent brunch and taste some unique wines.

I am not a big wine drinker and said as much. The Darling Sauvignon Blanc that was suggested was really excellent. My friend enjoyed one of the Georgian wines very much - can't remember what it was. The fries were the perfect fry and I could easily come back and have a quick bite and glass of wine.

Wnderful selection of natural wines. Even if you're not a natural wine drinker, there's something here for everyone. But if you are into the more interesting wines they have a great selection that will definitely be intrigue your palette.

Yelp
Was looking for a nice quiet place to relax, have some wine and talk and found this beautiful spot in Palo Alto. It is easily located with street parking available also there is a parking structure close by. The place is neat and one of the cutest. It gave me the vibe of Barcelona, Spain. The host was friendly and accommodating and we didn't wait long to be served. They have varieties of natural wine and charcuteries. We elected to have a flight so we could try different kinds of wine and a Small Charcuterie that was just perfect. Their wine tasted good and the charcuterie were excellent. We felt chill and relax and was able to talk and enjoy ourselves. Will definitely return and try them again.

Yelp
Great place to just relax and talk with friends. We chose to sit outside , the inside has tables too but more space outside for a group , overall Great atmosphere and service , Happy hour menu had good options! We enjoyed it

Yelp
Salvaje wine bar visit Thur 7/1/21 downtown Palo Alto Previously posted 7/6/21 + 19 pictures 7/1/21. I'm omitting owners name references in re-post 10/1/21. *** Re-posting mysteriously removed, perfectly good 5-star review from Salvaje wine bar excellent visit Thur 7/1/21 downtown Palo Alto. It's *not* filtered out, nor any notification emails received. Just disappeared this morning Fri 10/1/21. It's a wine bar I wanted to try out for a bit. Had it on my list since before Covid I believe. Today was the day! Thirsty Thursday July 1, 2021. Natural wines from biodynamic organic farms.. from all over the world! Wouldn't you wanna see & feel what's it all about? Granted, we're in downtown Palo Alto, so it ain't gonna be cheap. You could probably buy a bottle of any wine on the list for just a little bit more than a price of a glass in here. Yet, how else would you know what you do and do not like? Walked in and striked a conversation with John right away. He's here to bring some business in, obviously, and he's also very nice to talk to and ask for recommendations based on your wine preferences or curiosity. There are pop-up dinners and lunches going on too, but you gotta pickup on that through social media or perhaps ask your server. They do serve the bites and/or daily specials, to accompany your natural wines tasting experience. And I have to say those are quite good! Unique wines curated & sourced from all over the world. Sustainably grown grapes. Natural process of fermentation, without yeast added. Healthier for you by all means. No added sulphates, just those naturally occurring in wine. So much fun to discover a wine that you like - from Spain, from Italy, from Austria, Czech Republic, France, Chile, Mexico, Portugal, Slovenia, Greece, Bavaria, Canary Islands... Steamed Bao Buns $16 Burrata Basil Oil & Hazelnuts $14 Both excellent choices. Burrata comes with a plate of sliced crisp breads. Hazelnuts on burrata I believe were lightly toasted, as I recall. They weren't raw but they weren't necessarily roasted. It went great with funky wines, I must say. Salvaje opened couple months before the pandemic. I'm glad they're functioning now as of July 1. Hopefully it'll work out. [Removing paragraph with owners name reference] Long time owner of several other well known and popular bars & restaurants in Palo Alto & neighboring Mountain View opened this passion project driven by his wife's interest in natural non-sulphate wines. Been wanting to try natural wines for a long time, lucky to be able to sample some by the glass locally. Open only Wed-Sat 5-8:30 pm as of the date of my visit on 7/1/21 Natural wine bar Took some of John T recommendations and they didn't disappoint! He brought in a couple of samples of bubbles, to choose from. Easy winner - Villet Cremant du Jura Rose from France. When I lived in Rome, I'd always go for a carafe of young red vino alike Lambrusco. It was so good. Lambrusco for reference only - it wasn't anything like Lambrusco but it had this funkiness to it, juiciness of sorts. So - this natural wine bar Salvaje features bottled versions of no-sulphates-no-preservatives-no yeast throughout entire process of growing the grapes, and making the wine. Fully organic, grown & produced in a sustainable way wines, from many countries. Amazing and different tastes. Yelp
We had a great time at Salvaje Natural Wine bar. The wines are made organically on biodynamic farms or with sustainability in mind. The location is fun with lots of seating indoors and outside, misc. products for purchase, and light food/snacks. We did both the toasts and the Feast and Floral board. Friendly and attentive service.

Yelp
Amazing selection of natural wines!! Overall very impressed from particular wine snob perspective. Truly enjoyed the tasting flight of international natural wines. They're just as good as non natural wines and better for you in many ways. Simply delicious curated list of wines, and excellent kind service! They also offer fabulous charcuterie boards which I plan to try next time.

Yelp
An absolute gem in Palo Alto! We visited on a Wednesday right before 5 PM and made it just in time before happy hour ended. We are so incredibly grateful for the owner for letting the 9 of us squeeze into their beautiful nook. Salvaje has a fantastic ambiance and we absolutely loved their wines (especially the white, rose, and red), their cheese and charcuterie board, and the gifts available for purchase at their shop. Definitely visit Salvaje - you won't regret it!

Yelp
Salvaje just opened this week, and I think it will be a welcome addition to downtown Palo Alto! The focus here is natural wines - super trendy, but it basically means wine that is grown sustainably and fermented with native yeasts and minimal intervention. It may seem unnecessary, but I think it's a fun little thing that sets it apart from other area wine bars. We had great service and help from the owner on deciding which glasses of wine to choose (I'd say there are probably around 20 wines by the glass to choose from) and they have all kinds of unique options. The particular glass I chose wasn't my favorite, but I was being adventurous with my orange wine from Georgia, so that's on me. And now I know! There's also an interesting food selection here. Mostly small plates, but unique! We had the vegan katsu baos, which are made with Beyond Meat. They were yummy and a good portion size! I'd definitely order them again! The space here is a nice little Adobe house - kind of similar to that other downtown wine room, actually. I liked the setting and look forward to coming back soon!

Yelp
My goodness, where have you been? Palo Alto seemingly boasts decent wine joints, but this is a league of its own. Friendly and genuine service + comforting and elegant ambiance + delicíous and responsibly sourced wines = #winning. It is located off the main Street (University Ave) but that's exactly what makes this place a charm -- the place is small but inviting and warm -- kind of like walking into someone's living room for a glass of wine. We have been here now a few times to enjoy after-dinner glasses of wine and could not have picked a better spot to do so. I am determined to come here next time to get some food as well -- the selection looks promising.

Yelp
There's generally not a ton of places open late in downtown. However a new choice opened up in this wine bar. In an old Indian restaurant on a non descript part of Lytton. A large selection of producers I dont know about but got to try a bunch of tasty offerings. Im. Bit of a classicist when it comes to wine knowledge but always looking to learn about tasty new things. It's great something fresh and new has popped up in the see of same old PA!

Yelp
What a fun spot! Lots of cozy little nooks and corners - inside & out - make Salvaje the perfect place to unwind or celebrate. It's become our favorite drop in with family, friends or for a little date night. Salvaje features natural wines created with minimal intervention or additives. If you think that means subpar, I can only tell you that you're missing a whole new world. Every visit has been a chance to discover amazing varietals, flavors and geographic influences. The small plates are a perfect complement to your glass. Don't pass up the vegan bao buns or potatoes waffle! It was also a treat to meet the wife & husband owners and support a small business. Parking is easy. We've rarely missed getting a street spot here, away from busy University Ave. The setting, wine, food and people make Salvaje a truly unique experience. I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.

Yelp
Beautiful little wine spot where the staff makes you feel welcomed, the wine selection is much larger than I ever thought I would see at a natural wine bar. I had a few different wine options recommended by the staff. They were very knowledgeable and catered their suggestions to what my normal taste is. Although I was nervous about natural wine, I was pleasantly surprised. But aside from the wine, the food options are delicious. We had the hangar steak and the vegan bao. Ooo, the steak was tender, cooked perfectly med rare and had a beautiful sauce, served with fries. The bao was soft and fluffy with a crispy crunch and packed with flavor. I would come back just for the bao, but who can resist a tasty glass of wine too?!

Robert L.

Yelp
Excellent selection of natural wines, including things I haven't seen at the Punchdown or Ordinaire. Best fries I've had in a while. I asked the owner and they do them the right, labor-intensive way: acidulated water soak, first fry at a lower temperature to cook through, second fry at a higher temperature for crisp exterior. Looking forward to going back to try some more of the food.

Sameer S.

Yelp
Randomly walked into this wine bar while roaming around downtown PA. I've been to Ordinaire and Punchdown in Oakland so I know a little bit about natural wines before I came here. The wines are unique and highlight many obscure regions around the world. We got a mushroom toast and beyond meat Baos which were super tasty. It paired well with my Sicilian white wine. It was really mellow as it's only been open a week, but I can see this place being a go-to hangout as more people hear about it. Will definitely be back to try more of the food and unique wines.

Yelp
Love this place. The service is amazing I always feel like family when I come here. The wine is the best and I highly recommend any if their pop up chefs that come in. It never disappoints. Super cute spot with an awesome patio.

Ori B.

Yelp
Salvaje is great natural wine spot. As soon as I entered wowed by the by the decor and ambiance. Feels like I'm sipping wine in a botanical garden. They have a great natural wine selection and the food is tasty and inventive.

Kyle O.

Yelp
Cozy mellow place with great natural wine selection. Very informative and attentive staff. A little off the beaten path of the hustle and bustle of downtown which is a nice change. I suggest the burrata for snack.

S. M.

Yelp
Can't agree with the other reviews enough. The food and environment were so good. A little more wholesome and organic than some of the more commercial places in downtown PA. Wonderful ambience, a nice respite from the usual, and yummy food, too--can't wait to return.

Paul D.

Yelp
The wine is fairly large, considering all wines are considered "natural. I was impressed with how helpful the staff in our choices and selections. This is for friends to gather and discuss wine. Additionally, the food was very good.

Christie R.

Yelp
This gem has a very cozy vibe, knowledgable staff and delicious food. We received really personalized service, loved the music selection and enjoyed a beautiful cheese and meat plate. Definitely give the fried chicken a try and check out this place before everyone else discovers it!

Maliha S.

Yelp
Loved this little wine bar, great selection and the food was surprisingly delicious. Cosy ambience and really friendly owners, we'll definitely be back.

Damian S.

Yelp
Nice place, great wines, good charcuterie, and great service. The place is also very nice inside, definitely the best place for relax drinking a glass of wine in Palo Alto. It's good for meetings. Highly recommended:-)

Joelei H.

Yelp
Cute spot, great natural wine and food is delicious too. Vegan bao is my favorite (and I'm not vegan!). Staff was friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back!

Samar S.

Yelp
One of my favorite Bay Area gems. They have delicious natty wines, good service, great food and fun pop up dinners that have been a hit for me. My favorites so far have been Lil Eagle Burger and fried chicken sandwiches. The chicken sandwiches are now served regularly. I stop by every weekend for brunch and a cup of coffee served up by Tono. Be sure to try their breakfast tacos! They have safe covid precautions; spaced outdoor seating, all servers wear masks and cooks wear masks and gloves.

Ellen H.

Yelp
We organized a private wine celebration here for 40 vaccinated graduating folks and it was a lovely, low key, informal and delicious event. This is a shout out to John and Salvaje for working so very hard to make it perfect. The wines were uniquely delicious and for some miraculous reason we are not hung over!!!

Fred S.

Yelp
Had some really nice natural wines. A natural cabernet franc from Australia, a Georgian orange wine, a German chilled red. Great selection of wines I've never tried before and cool atmosphere. Definitely going back.

Tony P.

Yelp
Cool spot in Palo Alto with a lot of potential. Service was good and there was a great outdoor patio to have a few glasses of wine on a nice sunny day. Would be good to have more decor or flowers or music outside but I'll definitely be coming back to see how this place comes together!

Sandra Y.

Yelp
The name means "wild or undomesticated," and that's exactly the kind of tastes waiting for you at Salvaje, a welcoming oasis offering delicious creative cuisine and a globally sourced selection of unique natural wines. It's a cozy spot, a vintage adobe home repurposed with contemporary style and charming traditional touches. Friendly owners and staff are on hand with expert advice to help you explore a wealth of new tastes uncomplicated by artificial processing. Salvaje is the perfect spot for a small group gathering, date night or nightcap and a great addition to PA's dining options.

Nora B.

Yelp
Francisco and Romina are amazing come on a tuesday! The wine is delish(Francisco) and the food is equisite(Romina).
