"Salween started as a favorite of Midtowners for takeout pad thai after work, but it has slowly expanded into the largest Thai chain in the city, now with four locations. Along with the pad thai, the most popular dishes include Panang curry and drunken noodles, though there are some hidden gems on the menu, including a warming coconut chicken noodle soup and meaty, spicy larb." - Sarah Baker Hansen

Google
If you ask my wife, this Thai restaurant is the stuff of legend; the best Thai restaurant in America. When we visited Omaha recently, I knew we would end up here eventually. The environment is pleasant. The service was par for the course. The food was something special. The amount of flavor that the pad Thai and pad see ew we had punched was without a doubt incomparable with any other Thai restaurant I have been to. This place just has a back home in Thailand type energy. You can almost imagine the Thai grandma back in the kitchen preparing your meal with love.

Google
Ordered takeout. Got Drunken ramen noodles combination spice level 3. It was delicious perfectly done well flavored and spice was right for me. Also got fried dumpling, and wontons both done very well and dipping sauce was very good. Highly recommend and the prices where reasonable for the quality of food you get

Google
I just want to say Salween is amazing. They recently switched their ordering format to online only. We eat there all the time and love it. We recently ordered food online and accidentally order 4 of the wrong dishes but did not notice until we got it home. I called and they graciously said they would make the correct dishes at no charge and to come back. It was a great gesture and I wanted to let everyone know this is great restaurant. I will be putting this restaurant on the top of my list and eat there often.

Google
Fried samosa triangle puff 4 stars Nice and crispy. Filling is a to bit bland but still tastes good Steamed dumplings 4.5 stars These are pretty standard for dumplings but they are elevated with crispy fried garlic and their dumpling sauce is good Pad see ew 4.5 Drunken seafood fried rice 4.5 Drunken noodles 4.5 All the above are good choices. I found this after eating all 3 my mouth felt like there was too much seasoning though. Too much salt and sugar. So best to eat in moderation. We did have some service issues though. The person serving was very friendly but not very professional. We did not get one of the items we ordered though we are not charged for it. By the time they spoke with us, they said the kitchen was closed. There were other service issues but that's an example.

Google
Not a huge fan of Thai food. However, I thought the quality of Spicy Chicken and Rice I received was great and tasty. I'll echo some of the other reviews and share that I agree that the portions are not great especially for the price. I definitely had room for more protein. The servers were great!

Google
Had the pad-ka-pao and it was very good. In spite of being the only server, front desk person for takeout, and taking call in orders, the server was incredibly personable and helpful. This is a classy place to eat. Spice is customizable from 0-10 with 4/5 being comparable to a spicy Mexican meal. The server shared that someone had recently ordered a “25” recently and ate it with no trouble. If you’ve ordered this, please share. If I were to make any recommendations it would be to give your server samples of all of your dishes so she can give her opinion when asked.

Google
Really good food! My wife and I went for our 11th anniversary. It was our first visit and we were pleased. They don't serve alcohol, but you can bring your own. I tight that was odd,but it's not a negative at all.

Kathy Nguyen

Google
The food tasted good. I just wish there was more of it. I echo the other more recent reviews that my portion size was very disappointing. It just didn’t seem like a reasonable trade off for the price. For $14 and some change, I expected a bit more. As soon as they handed me my to-go order I thought this is incredibly lightweight even before I opened my box. I would understand the cost if I knew they did fresh-never-frozen and high quality ingredients but I have a feeling they don’t (and that’s okay but not for this cost). If this is what they offer than I’d rather go to another local Thai restaurant that is about the same price that’ll atleast give me a proper serving. Salween has always had a loyal following but competition is tough.

Yelp
Great service -- The staff welcomed us with a smile, we were seated almost immediately, and we were served water as soon as we were seated. They were attentive to our table and even brought us to go boxes with the bill. Food -- I was not a fan of the fried calamari (3/5), but my chicken Pad Thai was delicious (5/5)! The spice level is from 1-10 and I got a 5. It was too spicy for me. Given this, I would recommend going a bit lower on the spice level if your tolerance to spice is not high. Ambiance -- The restaurant seating area was decorated beautifully and the booths were comfy. There was no music playing (could be a pro or con for some folks). Overall this is a great place to eat (4.5/5). The food is not too pricey and customer service was great.

Randy C.

Yelp
Hands down the best place in Omaha to have Thai food. The food never disappoints, quick service and plenty of amazing dishes to choose from.

Melanie M.

Yelp
Food is delicious and good portions. If you get curry, always order an extra rice per person because they only give you one small box of rice. The noodles are a little oily but still delicious. I usually get red or yellow curry and drunken noodles with extra white rice. This time I also got spring rolls and one of their fried rices. The spring rolls were mid. Everything else was delicious!

Cemby K.

Yelp
This was a to go order and I was so excited to grab my food after work to only be disappointed! 1st the sampler: the 2 small fish cake tasted like it was store bought from the freezer aisle. The 1 piece of shrimp roll & egg roll wasn't anything to be impressive about and the samosa was very dry on the inside even though it was fried or maybe because there was just mainly potato inside. The pad see ew was flavorful but the carrots & broccoli were undercooked & hard still and the portion to price was not worth it. I opened my box and it looked like it could've been someone's leftover from dining in. The parking to the place was also a mess, this was at 730pm cst, you had people parking behind cars trying to get into the parking lot and people that were parked in front of the restaurant trying to leave but couldn't cause there was a car parked right behind them.

Amanda R.

Yelp
I ordered Salween Thai through DarDash and it was delicious. I like how you can personalized the spicy level and how much food you get. Two people can eat from one plate and the price is super good. I will for sure order from here again!

Makenzie L.

Yelp
What else would you order during a 12 hour shift to remind you of joy an life? Salween Thai. I got the tofu red curry level 7 to put some spice in my night and it hit good, i'm an avid all in on the hot scale and the 7 did me good mild runny nose but the FLAVOR level 10. Highly recommend super yum (plus the rice is in a heart shape, I you back Salween)

Jon K.

Yelp
Salween Thai along with Mercy Thai are in my opinion the best Thai food in Omaha. I prefer Salween Thai as it's closer to me in Benson. The drunken noodles with pork or chicken are always clutch for me along with a spring roll as an appetizer. I tend to start craving hot noods even more when it's either raining or snowing for some reason. The heat levels are no joke if you cannot handle the heat; I prefer to go with a 4 or 5, but I like the heat. The service is always fast & is great especially for takeout. The ambiance is ok, if you want to dine-in but it seems like they make a good portion of their business with takeout or delivery. I am very happy to have one of my go-to Thai food spots near me. In the picture is Panang Curry, which Kendra D, says is very good. Much recommended.

Nancy H.

Yelp
I absolutely love Thai food, so I've tried many restaurants in the Omaha-area and must say that Salween Thai consistently remains my favorite Thai restaurant for many years. My favorite dish is definitely the Chicken Pad Thai. The sauce is full of flavor, absolutely delicious. The portion is pretty good and they give a decent amount of meat in the dish. I have tried and loved many other dishes from Salween, including multiple curry dishes, pad see yew, drunken noodle, and tom yum noodle soup. They are all truly excellent. I frequently crave Salween and always find myself returning to one of the many Omaha locations. Highly recommend!

Devin F.

Yelp
Salween was highly recommended for us to try while in Omaha. According to my girlfriend and friends it's not in a nice part of town so we just ordered it via door dash. Food was filling and good, but nothing that'll blow your mind. Worth a shot if you're craving Thai.

Simon L.

Yelp
Low ambience, great food. The spice level is accurate, the pad Thai a firm favourite, and alternates to meat.

Sarah P.

Yelp
Salween is a fantastic, easy, reasonably priced option nearby for anyone at the med center, in Blackstone, or Dundee. I've gotten take out from here a few time and every time it's been delicious. They are always punctual with their delivery or pickup times, which is much appreciated. The food is delicious, and I haven't tried anything that's disappointed me. Additionally, they were open during the recent blizzard/winter storm, which earns them extra kudos in my mind! Salween is certainly one of my go to take out spots in Omaha!

Austin L.

Yelp
Salween has been my go-to for tasty Thai food for years! However, keep in mind that they have been evolving and reacting to tough times by decreasing the amount of protein in dishes as well as the portion sizes. The 'ween used to be top tier in Omaha, but it just hasn't been hitting the spot like it used to. I absolutely love the Pad Thai as well as the Drunken Noodles and typically order a spice level of 5-6. Spice level varies based on the chef preparing the dish - I have had a level 5 taste like a 3 some times and an 8 other times. Despite the changes to Salween's service, I still recommend their Thai food and will continue to return!

Raven B.

Yelp
I've ordered takeout from this location 3 times. The first time, it was great! The second time, there was a long hair in my noodles. The third time, I found ANOTHER hair in my entree. I know accidents happen, but holy moly. I really wanted to like this place...

Emma L.

Yelp
Salween Thai is definitely one of my staples of go to food options when I get home from a long work day. I can always appreciate the quick and consistent service. I really like the green curry and the pad Thai. Having takeout is a confident choice for me when ordering from here because the food is quite quick. I also appreciate that their pricing is what I would consider appropriate and affordable.

Maureen P.

Yelp
My toxic trait is the frequency that I DoorDash Salween pad thai. It's my default when I don't feel like cooking or going out. It's just really really good standard pad thai. First time I went here I was told by a coworker that it was very spicy & to get a low level. Went with a 4, but he must've just had a low spice tolerance because I didn't find it spicy at all. I now go with a 6, which, to me, has a nice kick to it without being overwhelming. For reference, I'd say I have a pretty medium, maybe medium-low level of tolerance for spice. I've been inside two of the locations, but only for takeout - the one by 72nd & Pacific which feels more open with a lot of natural light & the one on Northwest Radial which seems to have a cozier feel. So it seems the atmosphere varies a lot by location, but neither was really anything special on the inside. I think takeout & delivery are really their main wheelhouse. No amount of good financial judgement is going to stop me from paying ridiculous DoorDash fees to get this delivered to my door like once a week.

Kayla H.

Yelp
Service was so fast! Food was incredible, I had the massaman curry, the peanut flavor really came through. Would definitely recommend that option.

Emily G.

Yelp
Ordered from here for the first time over the weekend. Overall it was good Thai food, but not the absolute best I've ever had. Had the chicken pad thai, drunken noodles with chicken, and egg rolls. The flavors in both dishes were great but a little too much sauce for my liking. Affordable price for what was delivered.

Lucky A.

Yelp
This place is a vegetarian's dream! It's really hard to find Thai food in Omaha that doesn't use fish/oyster sauce in most of the dishes. I so appreciate how accommodating Salween Thai is with all of my veggie-full requests -- they add extra veggies to dishes, make things without any fish/oyster sauce, the whole nine yards. I'm a super busy medical student nearby and I love that I can always count on them for healthy, delicious food. 10/10 recommend.

Blai T.

Yelp
Hands down the best Laotian/Thai food I've had in the Midwest!! By far the best pad Thai and papaya salad (Laos style) I've tried at a restaurant! I'm very impressed with the authenticity and taste!! My tongue was about to fall off from the spice and it was worth it!! They were all spice level of 7 and it was perfect!! Literally just came out of the restaurant. Could've gone an 8 but my body is still numb from the spice! Can't recommend this place enough!

Aimee Y.

Yelp
Salween Thai has been a secret gem of Omaha in my heart. Being a college student from California, I am always been super lucky with the great food and diversity a suburban southern California town can offer. Salween Thai instantly became my new favorite 2 years ago with their portions and the flavors at an unbeatable price. As an avid curry addict, I always end up with some yellow or panag chicken curry no question, and end up having a good time. When I got the chance to go back and order recently, my friend's drunken noodles and pad thai were also a blessing to try. Would recommend this place for all dine-in customers, 5 stars!

Kishan S.

Yelp
Salween Thai is an Omaha must eat restaurant. It has consistently been one of the top Thai spots in Omaha. My favorite dishes here are the drunken noodles and the panang curry. While the portion sizes have certainly decreased over the years, the taste and quality has been consistent. I usually get anywhere from a 3-5 slice, I can handle moderate spice. Highly recommend this place!

Michael K.

Yelp
I have been to this location several times over the past several years and it is usually pretty good but did not have the best experience at my last visit. The pad thai and thai noodle soup were good but I think both dishes taste better at the Salween located on 72nd street. There was a mixup on an appetizer we ordered and we were brought veggie spring rolls instead of fried egg rolls. When we let our server know, she told us she would bring the fried egg rolls but refused to take the veggie spring rolls back because they were already prepared and served so we ended up paying for both. It really was not a big deal and we did not mind paying for both appetizers, but it was a bit off-putting how adamant the server was about not taking the spring rolls back. In my experience, when there is a mixup on a dish, especially a small appetizer, the restaurant will take it back and bring the correct item without further questioning. Overall, I would recommend the Salween located on 72nd street for better service and food. I will say that this particular experience was unusual as I have been to this location before and the food and service are usually better so if you are in the area, still give it a try and see for yourself.

Juan D.

Yelp
Came in a bit skeptical as the location is not ideal. Food is great and staff is super friendly. Highly recommend!

Steve T.

Yelp
Love! Best Thai food in Omaha easily , can't go wrong with the norm but try a few of their favorites

Melissa M.

Yelp
This was the first time coming here. I always heard it was great but never took the time to to. I finally went and so glad that I did! The pad Thai & fried rice is great! You definitely get your moneys worth!

Jim M.

Yelp
My problem wasn't with the food as much as it is with their total spice inconsistency at the Pacific St location. This has happened several times now, and it's putting me off this restaurant that I would normally recommend, but I'm finding it hard to want to return anymore. They advertise that their spice levels are strong, so if you'd normally order a 3 in a 5 scale restaurant, you should keep it under 4 here. I've ordered 4 many times, and when they actually do it properly, 4 is a good happy medium. Spicy hot, eye watering, but not mouth burning. Tonight my Pad Thai 4 was a 0. Not spicy, not even sort of spicy, just bland and really nothing more than chicken and noodles with a red sauce. This is the 4th or 5th time, so if it was just once, I'd say OK, just a mistake-they happen, but this is an ongoing problem. Maybe I need to open it up and take a bite to check before I take it home? Nope. Maybe they should pay closer attention to orders and prep, and yes, my box had 4 written on it. Losing faith in Salween Thai.

Kaleb M.

Yelp
One of the more authentic Thai restaurants (confirmed from multiple colleagues from Thailand) and our favorite in Omaha area.

Ashley J.

Yelp
I could literally eat the drunken noodles with chicken, every day of my life. My husband gets the boat rice noodle soup with beef, and also loves it.

Jennifer M.

Yelp
First the restaurant smelled strongly of over cooked fryer oil. I ordered take out (1) Pad Thai with chicken (lackluster with very little chicken and hardly any veggies) and a Tom Yum Kung soup (menu lists shrimp for this dish and I confirmed with waitress I wanted shrimp but I got chicken). Not impressed. Check your orders before you leave!

Quinn H.

Yelp
Salween is such a takeout staple! I typically have the Pad Thai spice level 6 (spice level ranges from 1-10). I have tried their tofu pad Thai and something was off about the tofu (didn't love it!) their chicken is good though! The dine in service is not great, you'll be sorry if you order too much spice and can't get water. I usually order take out. Unfortunately, the last time I ordered take out there was an issue. I was told food would be ready in 30 minutes, arrived on time and had to wait for another 45 minutes. It was worth the wait though!

Farai T.

Yelp
Amazing Thai food! The best Thai food in Omaha hands down!! We love the traditional favorites pad Thai and drunken noodles!

Alex H.

Yelp
Don't trust their online descriptions. We've ordered from here multiple times and have always been very pleased, today was a different story unfortunately. We ordered two soups which we have ordered before and are listed online as having coconut milk in them, they are usually creamy and delicious! Neither of our soups had coconut milk in them today, as confirmed by the employee we spoke to on the phone. We requested a refund as this is not what we ordered and the soups cost around 12 to 13 dollars a pop, not cheap. The employee on the phone said they couldn't trust us and we need to bring them back for a refund...excuse me but it is your restaurant and online descriptions that cannot be trusted. Will never return or recommend again. Also portions were MUCH smaller.

Chad C.

Yelp
Did I move into the Metcalf neighborhood in Benson just to be close to Salween Thai? Partially. This place is delicious...big menu with all the Thai classics, and available on a 1-10 heat scale. I like a bit of spice, but not tears so I stay around a 4. Inside seating is very clean, well kept and comfortable. Takeout is also available, and usually ready in about 25 minutes. I recommend the Yellow curry, Pad See Ew, Fried Drunken Noodle, and Chicken Satay...but in reality I haven't disliked anything I've had here, these are just on my greatest hits that I'm constantly putting on shuffle and repeat. Favorite Thai food in Omaha for me!

Luis A.

Yelp
Horrible waiting time although the place is almost empty. They obviously prioritize their delivery over clients that go to their place.

Areen B.

Yelp
I honestly think the quality and consistency at Salween has been falling off recently. The pad thai is so greasy- to the point of having to wipe it down with a paper towel prior to eating it. Less meat in the portions. Pretty disappointed by this but they definitely have a chokehold on me as they are the only Thai nearby *sigh*.

ran y.

Yelp
This place came super highly recommended a few years ago and I found it to be adequate-to-outstanding in terms of food quality and consistency. Since then, the consistency in both food quality and spice levels has dropped to all over the place and I think there have been more orders with mistakes than completed correctly by the staff. Depending on who is working, you can get generally competent staffing to complete hipster-wannabe snobbery and attitude (more often the latter in my experience) and the final straw was when I arrived to dine there a few nights ago and was informed the kitchen was closed... well over a half-an-hour before it was scheduled to be. Thanks for the memories? But in the future, no thanks... Edit: Life hack to remember for Salween, they give tiny portions of sauce for spring rolls, not nearly even enough for 1, let-alone 2. Ask for more in advance. Check the bag. Ask for more if they stiffed you anyway.

Cecilia R.

Yelp
Deliciously authentic (and cheap!) Thai cuisine that definitely deserves more visits in the future. I've come with family and friends and there has always been something for everyone. The padthai is downright delicious and the pineapple fried rice is the right balance of sweet and savory. I especially like the curries here and how you can choose a spiciness level... personally, I can only do 5 out of 10, so if you think you can take the heat, do so with caution. Next time, I'll check out the Asian market next doors. If it's like the restaurant, I know I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Justin D.

Yelp
This place gets 4 stars - atmosphere, service, price, and experience. Great thai food when you need your curry craving satisfied - the pad thai was just okay. Great service, very nice people. The prices are fair aI would eat here again if I am ever back in Omaha!

Mandy S.

Yelp
We ordered delivery from DoorDash from here. The yellow curry was absolutely amazing and so was the pad Thai. The spice scale was large; we went with a 3 on the pad Thai and a 4 on the curry. I think they were accurate levels. They even shaped our rice into a cute heart which was a fun surprise when opening the

Sabrina D.

Yelp
Salween does not disappoint! The restaurant is usually decently busy, but not too packed. Wait staff is helpful and pretty quick. Our favorite meals are the pad Thai and the beef drunken noodles-- a perfect blend of sweet and spicy and savory! We love to share our meals, so the portion was a little smaller than what we'd prefer for the $$. Their fried wontons are about average, but the sauce they serve them with is great! The prices are pretty comparable to other Thai/Asian spots. Definitely worth a visit.. or three!

Erica N.

Yelp
First time getting take out from here and I am very happy with the results! Tastes amazing! I got pad Thai level 4 spice and its perfect for someone that can't have to much spice and some delicious spring rolls.

Dale V.

Yelp
This is one of the regular place since we get takeout from when we are in Omaha. It is our favorite Thai food restaurant for a good reason because the food is always excellent.

Hana G.

Yelp
The overall experience was good. The spice level was predictable based on the number and had a good flavor to it. Portion sizes were decent for the pad thai and the garnish allowed for more texture variety. The somosa appetizer came out frozen in the middle the first time around but the second time the pastry was crisp and the filling was flavorful.

Rachel B.

Yelp
Salween has been a staple in my life for years. I get the same dish almost every time (Coconut chicken soup, spice level 7) and the only reason I don't give 5 stars is I occasionally get one that doesn't taste like the others. Consistency aside, they are reasonably priced and have good service.

Nina H.

Yelp
Perhaps this 5 stars is because I've had some pretty crummy Pad Thai lately. I didn't realize that restaurants could really mess the dish up. I was about to give up all hope until My husband brought home Pad Thai Horkai from Salween Thai. I like it spicy so he ordered me a 10. It had the spice level I would expect for a ten and it still had great flavor (it wasn't overpowered with spice). This dish in particular was put inside an egg crepe sort of presentation. It was pretty neat. This isn't my first time coming here, but I tend to forget this hidden gem. I need to come here more often when I have my Thai cravings in northwest Omaha. My faith in humanity (and good cooking) have been restored!

Joy D.

Yelp
My daughter brought me food from this place and I immediately ask Where is this Salween located cause their cook is way too awesome! It is sooooo.... good! I will definitely go to this Salween location! Kudos to the one who cooks the food!

Tam D.

Yelp
Drunken noodles was a little watery or drenched.. made the noodles sauggy, pad Thai was too much sauce and over killed the taste..

Kelly P.

Yelp
This is definitely my favorite Thai place around here. The food is always top quality and comes out quicker than expected. I recommend the whole tilapia. The skin is so crispy and fish was cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that I asked for my food at a level 8. Which they assured me was extremely spicy. But it wasn't as spicy as it should have been.

Vivek S.

Yelp
Salween Thai always has great food. Am a fan of all their curries and their boat rice noodle soup with beef. They are always busy, which is a testament to the quality of their food

Katt R.

Yelp
Salween is a classic Omaha staple. It's decent food for a good price and leaves you full. They have a wacky spice scale and it's never the same no matter what, so just work with what you know. I usually do 2-3 and I like spice, I just also like to be able to enjoy my food. My recommendation: Their drunken noodle with chicken at a spice level 2-3 is my go-to. I've heard they have great curry and of course, the classic pad thai. I don't really enjoy pad thai but other people like Salween's.
