6 of the Best Wineries in Washington State - AFAR

"A flamboyant, rock‑and‑roll–minded producer with tasting rooms in Seattle (including the Jet City space in a former bottling plant overlooking Boeing Field and Mount Rainier) and Walla Walla, known for bold branding and widely distributed crowd-pleasers. Accessible labels like Kung Fu Girl riesling and Boom Boom! syrah exemplify the energetic house style; value-oriented offerings include the Cs cabernet from the Wines of Substance line (around $15), while the K Vintners bottlings — notably Powerline syrah — deliver meaty, opulent, boysenberry-rich expressions." - Bryce Wiatrak

This is a great park but watch out! I've seen cars and motorcycles drive through pedestrian and bike areas, and no one seems to be held accountable. I worry some day a kid may get hit, hopefully they install some cameras and improve safety!

08/12/23: what a hidden gem in the urban area! This park’s east side connects to Jimi Hendrix Park and its left side connects to a tunnel. The park is so gorgeous with tons of playgrounds, playfield and picnic areas. I see many locals biking, running, and walking their dogs frequently here. I enjoyed the peaceful and calm vibe. There are two tennis fields nearby FYI. I highly suggest this awesome park to anyone

Google
Great park for all ages. Playground is good for toddlers through big kids and is away from any major roads, so is quiet and feels safe. Fields for sports and dogs, and. Ice tennis courts. Thankful for this park.

Google
Great quiet park for the younger set. Plenty of places to climb both in the playground and around. Well kept and clean, there's plenty to keep a kid busy for a while. There's also gge tunnel that leads to the I-90 bridge and a nice view.

Nice park. Ample space for kids to play. Great place to walk, jog or bike. Walked through a tunnel here that joins the I90 walkway (pedestrian trail)The view is breathtaking on a clear day. Never get a chance to soak in the view while driving on this road. This park is worth a visit just to experience walking this pedestrian trail. Lots of free parking options are available near king Martin Luther Jr street and other roads very close to this park. It is very very windy on the trail. Might help carrying a hoodie or beanie.

Great park for diverse activities and all ages! Public exercise equipment, tennis courts, sitting areas and beautiful trees in the fall. The architecture of the viewpoint at the end is incredibly good for photos and a tourist stop that's looking to get some directly coastal air. Do yourself a favor, go through the tunnel and check out the massive blackberry patches to the side of the viewpoint.

This park is much bigger than I imagined, the environment is beautiful and clean, there is a tennis 🎾 field, adults and children can play together!

Good place to see the bridge and tunnel under the hill.

Yelp
Sam Smith Park is what happens when someone decides to make a non-green park out of what was definitely an industrial area. As you walk into the park it seems normal - a paved walking trail, gorgeous trees but towards the back you start to see that there's a large play area, but it's right next to a power station. There's a significantly long tunnel over to the viewpoint and 1-90 trail, but the opening is under what looks to be a closed down county building. The tunnel feels safe, but it's rife with graffiti that could instead be a mosaic or a mural. When you walk over to the 31st Ave area, it feels like the Mount Baker Ridge viewpoint should be connected to the park, but it's not. It's just an oddly laid out park that should have focused on replicating what the front half of the park has, sculptures and artistic prose as you walk along the trail. All in all, I wouldn't want to spend a significant amount of time here but for what it is, it's much nicer than Freeway Park and more successful in the transition from industry to safe public space.

Yelp
Terrific park in Seattle to get some exercise and head over to the I-90 Bridge to get in a scenic run back and forth to Mercer Island. This park is part of the I-90 Lid. Running though the tunnel was pretty cool with it's artwork, among the terrific paths with wonderful structures and greenery all around. The trees here are beautiful along with the care of the grounds. Paths to run and bike, playgrounds for the children to enjoy, dog park, tennis courts, picnic tables, and soccer field.

Yelp
Sam Smith Park is a really cool use of public space. This park floats over parts of I-90 in an area sometimes called the "I-90 Lid." Great trails for biking, walking and running connect this park to several other nearby parks, including Jimi Hendrix Park and Judkins Park. You'll find interesting art incorporated into the path that leads toward the I-90 tunnel. Turn off the path before you reach it, and you'll find a kids playground in one direction and tennis courts in another. At another end of the park is an off-leash dog park that used to be a detention pond. Visitors will also find interesting pieces of art including Urban Peace Circle, a sculpture by Gerard Tsutakawa that is dedicated to children killed by gun violence in Seattle's inner city. In case you're wondering about Sam, he was the first African American person on Seattle City Council. He also served for years in the Washington State legislature. The name of Sam Smith is associated with the desire and efforts to lessen the gap between Seattle's black and white communities.

Yelp
Watch out for shocks! Feels weird to write a review about a park, but had to call out that every time I come here with my daughter, after running around on the Astro turf, for some reason we build up a lot of static electricity. This means all of the park amenities, which are metal, shock us. We also shock each other. I'm not a science person so can't explain why this happens (maybe the Astro turf), but have confirmed with some other parents that it happens to them to. Kind of makes the park unusable, as it literally happens every minute and some of the shocks are intense!

Yelp
The playground at SSP is modern and low key. It's incorporated above an interesting WSDOT maintenance facility which gives the surrounding terrain a unique look and contains the area a bit making easy kid wrangling. There is a bike tunnel outside of the play area and more fields. Next to the playground is a water fountain and a portapotty. It's unclear if this bathroom facility is there permanently, but it is handy!

Yelp
Sam Smith Park along with the adjacent Judkins Park sit along the bike path that runs across the I-90 bridge. The park itself has nice playground for the kids, tennis courts and water fountains. They have some odd large concrete features dotting the landscape but I suspect tha may have something to do with the car tunnel that I believe runs deep underground. The long bicycle tunnel that runs from Smith Park to the I-90 bridge is pretty cool although I feel like I wouldn't want to get caught in there at dark. Bicycles abound and can creep on you wicked fast so beware!

Yelp
Too. Many. Bike. Shorts. Bikers zoom in and out of the otherwise cool tunnel. They are so RUDE. I just wanted to stick my foot out and triiiiiiiiip theeeeeeeeeem. Bikers always throw pedestrians 'tude ten times worse than they get form drivers. It's a bitter and undocumented conflict- but it's there. Darn superior bikers in their criminally unflattering shorts. But it was pretty and they have Tennis Courts , and a play ground. Neither of any practical use to me however. I came for the tunnel- what kind of person does not like a tunnel? Bikers(bicyclist) love them, apparently. They can pretend they're in a car- certainly were going FAST enough to be on I-5. It's entirely unsafe to have a bunch of people doing fifty miles an hour on their bikes when it's supposed to be safe for children. But I supposed after a while the gortex/spandex unholy union would bare the wicked seed of brain damage sooner or later. Wearing all those new water repellent chemicals without knowing the long term effect, eh? Yeah. Keep pedaling there eco-ranger, I'll just make sure to warn all the parent of toddlers.
