The food was average. Their barbeque meats weren't as good as other Sam Woo (i think). Ordered porridge and walnut mayonnaise shrimp; the walnuts were soggy.

This place is CLEAN. Servers are very attentive. I've never thought chinese food could be very expensive. I ordered 2 delicacy bbq pork with pork belly and it is $20 for a small plate. The chow mein noodles are ok but on the salty side. I remember when on a tight budget that Sam Woo used to be my go to place but not anymore. There are no cheap budget chinese place anymore here due to inflation. when we let our evil governor and government dictate, this happen and it will still get worse.

nostalgia.. is the same as i remember as a child. can't beat the salt and pepper squid, my all time fave song with the roast duck. also ordered the squid from the quick serve counter, surprisingly good!

They purposely gave me wrong Chicken. I ordered cold chicken 贵妃鸡 they gave warm chicken 白斩鸡 。, The one left over counter, and eggplant tasted completely different last time I ate there I will never come back. They tried to cheat on me

Google
Sam Woos is a franchise restaurant so the same dishes sometimes vary in flavor dependant on location. This was the first time I visited this location. The service was good and the sweet and sour chicken delicious as was the beef chow mein. We also ordered barbecue pork ribs but because they were in short supply, they added barbecue pork to the order. The barbecue pork or tsa tsu was far better in flavor than the ribs which were dry and not properly marinated. Overall, the food was good though I will never order barbecue ribs again.

I used to love going to this place pre COVID, for their X.O. lo mien, however I went recently and it wasn't there anymore! The food was still pretty good though but the food did take a while to come out.

Special ordered a whole roast pig. Meat was tasty but dry. Skin was great, very crispy and stayed on the meat. Not as big as last time we ordered a few years ago.

Yelp
I loved San Woo when they had one in Rowland Heights Then it closed. This is the first time I try at this place. First of all, the restaurant is clean, well lit and moderately spacious. They closed off about 25% of the area and use it as storage. Service is great. Friendly, efficient and helpful. Foods are almost the same as the other Sam Woo. But not as complete. I was looking for MEI CAI KOU ROU - STEAMED PORK BELLY W/ PRESERVED VEGETABLES ; they do not have it. Fried oysters, they do not have it too. The one that they do have, all taste delicious. The Cteamy corn soup with fish maws has too much corn starch. Almost gluey. Gluey is not the same as creamy. Otherwise, everything is great.

Yelp
11/22/24 @8:29pm. Stop at this place for pick up dinner. Guy mopping floor, dining area closed. Need to go to restroom. Guy at register said careful wet floor. Ok" At restroom using the urinal, Hispanic guy walked out of toilet stall. Watching something on his phone and walked out without fcking wash his hands. Fcking disgusting . I'm reporting this to health department.

Yelp
They started serving breakfast, so we decided to try them out. We usually come for their BBQ to go and more or less, it's consistently good. Their breakfast on the other hand, wasn't as great as I was hoping. We ordered to go and when paying, we were told to pay in cash since the credit card machine doesn't work in the morning. Ok.... The staff never told us it's a common occurrence. Luckily, we did have cash on hand, but most of the time, I'm all credit cards and ApplePay. Food took a while to come out even though there weren't a lot of people waiting or dining in. What was ordered: - Beef Porridge (comes with Chinese Donut, Rice Noodle Roll, Soy Sauce Chow Mein, Drink) - Pan Fried Chicken Steak (comes with Corn, Ham, Egg, Toast, Drink) Overall, the food was very bland. I wasn't really a fan of any of them. Price wise, it's pretty decent since you get a good amount of food, but I found the taste to be a bit lacking. Credit cards would be accepted if the machine works, so go at your own risk, or bring backup cash.

Yelp
It's been quite a long time since I've been to Sam Woo. This is my first time coming to this location. I had a large party (9) and didn't make reservations ahead of time. Luckily, this place did not need reservations. They have a quick takeout section on the side and dine in on the other side. We got here around 6pm Sunday, and there weren't really customers dining in. The pace did picked up while we were there though. The food came out delicious. The presentation was good, and the quality was good. The portion of the food seems a bit small. We did order a lot of dishes, so we were full at the end. My favorite dish was probably the roast pork, fish, and the green beans. Honestly, I enjoyed all the dishes. Service was quick. They have their own parking lot. The ambiance was good too. When you're looking for a classic Chinese sit down for a family outing, this is a good choice. This location definitely taste better than Cerritos location.

Yelp
Sam Woo BBQ is a classic Cantonese BBQ institution. If you are in search of tasty Cantonese dishes, this is the spot. I grew up eating at Sam Woo and I have great memories from when my family would go to a Sam Woo after a road trip. Double Delicacy on Rice: This dish is 50-50 BBQ pork and roast duck. This is from the meat hanging in the display case at the front. The BBQ Pork (char siu) is thick and meaty, plump and tender, with a nice glaze. The roast duck is rich and seasoned with five spice powder. Cabbage on the side provides a nicely balanced meal. Wonton Noodle Soup with BBQ Pork: The wontons are plump and the wrappers are delicate. The pork fillings have plenty of fresh tender shrimp. On the first bite, the fragrant sesame oil flavor shines through. There are also crunchy little sesame seed bits in the filling. The egg noodles are perfectly thin, firm, and wiry. The BBQ pork is tender and tasty. The broth has a great balance between pork and seafood flavors. Dining area: The interior is modern with comfy booths and gold walls. Parking: The Lucky Plaza lot is large but swarming with circling cars.

Yelp
Classics Cantonese food options. U like that this location opens early at 8 am and allows me to pick up food before work. Many of the places that sell Cantonese Bbq open at 10 am. There is also plenty of free parking

Yelp
On a Sunday morning in Late July, my sister and I came here with our mother to eat congee Breakfast deal $12.99. The servers are nice and speak English and Cantonese. When we first arrived, we were told cash only because the credit card system was down. My mother got century egg pork congee, 2 sides and coffee. I got the roast duck wonton noodle soup, sister got a slice of ham, toast, egg. with chicken steak. Too bad no refills on lemon ice tea. The ambience was nice and the tables looked clean. The congee was thick and so good. I enjoyed my roast duck wonton noodle soup. They have the best breakfast value. I would go back to try lunch items.

Yelp
This is the cleanest and most spacious Sam Woo in SGV. The food is delicious and service is very friendly. Love their breakfast specials. See attached menu. The shrimp won tons have a nice crunchy texture, better than plain pork won tons. The beef stew is well cooked, tender and flavorful. Portion is huge. The BBQ duck, pork, and hot food section are all delicious!

Yelp
The old Sam woo at the 99 ranch market closed down. Now there's this one by the McDonald's. Parking is quite a struggle. All free parking but shared with other businesses in the plaza. No photos allowed but I took one before I saw the sign. Have been visiting this place frequently to satisfy my meat cravings. A whole salt or soy sauce chicken is $27, half is $14.50. Bbq pork is $14.99/lb plus tax. You can ask them to choose a slice with more or less fat. I love watching their chopping skills, so satisfying. I really like eating crunchy mildly spicy intestines. Yum. And of course the hanging ducks and pig. You need to spend a minimum of ($15?) to use credit card. You can also do sit down dining.

Jay C.

Yelp
Don't let its star rating fool you. This is one of the best Sam woo's out there. The staff is always friendly, the atmosphere is always great, it's nice and clean and the food is always solid. Not to mention recently their dining area reopened since Covid. I've been here before and during Covid' and now after. The bbq is always fresh and you really can't go wrong getting Chinese bbq here. Even through they have a really big menu the bbq is still the best, roast duck, char Siu and roast pork are all winners and the price is still decent. Whether you want a plate with rice or meat alone it's all good!

I.on U.

Yelp
The quality of the food, variety, quick service and reasonable prices are reasons i keep coming back. If you don't care about service, this is a good place for take out

Randall M.

Yelp
Been going here since I was a kid. Best place for roast duck. If you can get past the in your face service of this traditional SGV restaurant, you're in the right place. Ambiance is greasy but it's all good because you came here for the food.

Sam H.

Yelp
While out here visiting family, we decided to try this place for HK breakfast at the recommendation of a family member. Once we arrived, we were immediately greeted by our waitress and seated. This is a small-medium sized location that offers freshly cooked Chinese bbq items like duck, pork, etc. for takeout. The place was clean and fairly empty as they just opened. But it did fill up quickly with customers. We each opted for the different kinds of congee/porridge. I had the chicken porridge and each order comes with 1/2 of a Chinese donut, noodle dish, rice noodle with special sauce (generally peanut sauce & hoisin sauce) and a drink of your choice. The serving is a very generous portion and you won't go away hungry. The waitress was very attentive and professional.

David G.

Yelp
Staff here is genuinely nice, which is great. Arguably their breakfast menu offers the biggest bang for your dollar. Their hot milk tea is my favorite. The food taste is ok--I come here mostly for the tea and value. Still, it's nice to have this as an option. Certainly better than most other HK cafes, at least for breakfast.

David W.

Yelp
This Sam Woo just opened for breakfast. The breakfast is served from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The taste is on the bar with other breakfast places. The great thing is this place comes with three items and it is a very good deal. The service is attentive. I will come back to try other items.

Matt P.

Yelp
I only came here for the deli. Picked up some roast pork belly and cuttlefish. The cuttlefish had a nice texture, but didn't have much flavor to it. Would have been nice if they added some of the char siu gravy on top. The roast pork belly was really good. No bones to deal with and skin nice and crispy. I noticed hint of sweetness on the skin. Not sure if they brushed it with sugar water or not. I found it to be a little too salty, but goes well if you are eating rice with it. I prefer this location as it's usually the area I am in when I am in the SGV. I did notice that they close the restaurant after lunch until dinner time. Kind of a shame, I wished they were open all day. Parking wasn't an issue for me on a Saturday because I guess since they are closed after lunch that there were quite a few parking spots available.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Disgusting! The service was O kAY, but they need more people to wait on the tables. They are more concerned with the to-go orders! I had heard such great things about the place but was disappointed at best.

Viviana H.

Yelp
This spot is my quick BBQ go-to spot for any occasion when I'm east of Del Mar. I always get the ROAST PORK (skin sometimes is too thick and becomes hard to chew when not so crispy), BBQ PORK, and SAUSAGE. They are my go to if I don't want to cook and want to pair them with rice and veggies. Enter through the door on the far right and exit on the left. They take CREDIT CARDS and CASH. Prices have obviously gone up but it's still fairly on par with rest of BBQ places around SGV. They still have a working hand sanitizer dispenser at the cashier and their pandemic set up is still present in the clear plastic dividers between you and the food. PARKING: small lot and hard to get in and out -- pretty difficult when it's very busy like holidays, peak hours and weekends.

Randy L.

Yelp
Consistently the best roast duck (not to be confused with Peking duck) even in SGV (San Gabriel Valley). Always juicy, tender, and amazingly tasty. We only take out from this store, but we do it regularly. I have no idea what the service is like or the physical plant, as my wife is always the one to go in to get the duck. Oh, the chicken chow fun dry is also consistently tasty, generous, with tender pieces of chicken. I don't know if chicken chow fun is even on the menu. Most places only list beef chow fun, but if you ask for chicken at Sam Woo, you get a very tasty dish.

Serena L.

Yelp
I came here right before closing and luckily they still had some duck available! It was so flavorful and when I asked for extra jus, they gave me two extra containers. The staff was wonderful - I'll be back to visit!

David Y.

Yelp
Came here twice now to try out their breakfast menu. Gotta say it's a good value for your money. The food tastes good and you get a good variety of items.

Gerry C.

Yelp
Just went to have a pork congee with preserved egg, and it never disappoints! Tasty, and served quickly! Thanks for being in the neighborhood!

Marivic T.

Yelp
Best Yang chow fried rice and wonton noodle soup!! Wontons tasted yummy! Good service too!

Yelp
I am not a picky person, but the cooking of this place even turn me off. I will never patronize this place again, I swear.

Pope C.

Yelp
Excellent service, food hot and very flavorful. Big shrimp in yeung chow fried rice. Quiet, relaxing place. Cleaner than other Sam Woos. I'll be back!

Ben L.

Yelp
This place puts customers last! I came in trying to buy 1/2 a duck and a pound of roasted pork belly for my wife and I to enjoy at home. I saw a beautiful golden brown duck and pointed it out to gentleman A to give me 1/2 of that one. He said if you want half you get these and he pointed to the bottoms ones that were charcoal black! I told him I don't want a burnt duck, give me this golden brown one. He said, no if you want that you have to buy the whole... whatever I tell him to chop up the one i picked so he scurried off to chop away. Gentleman B asks me if I wanted anything else. I tell him yes while pointing to the 2 new pork bellies hanging and said I want 1 pound. This guy grabs a small piece that on a bottom pan and said this one is better. I ask him are you sure? He said yes it is beautiful! I said OK i'll trust you. When i got home and bit into it the pork skin was chewy and the meat was cold! My advice to customers is don't trust the employees and make sure you pick your food or they will pick the worse for you.

Ray D.

Yelp
The one less star is for the not enough parking spaces there and the cashier who was not patient to explain to 1st Tim's customers where to order at(1 for in house dining and 1 for ordering out. Other than that the duck was really good and even ordered 1/2 a duck for dinner next day.

Magda N.

Yelp
We frequent this location b/c it is near home. Never dined in, always to go. Great to bring home for dinner with family, just make some rice. Everybody likes it since it's meat with neutral flavor and dipping sauce on the side. We usually gets half of the chicken or duck or pork depending on the mood. The roasted pork is the hubby's favorite, crinkly crispy top. Line may look long sometimes but they move fast. Just make sure you know what to say (or just point) and tell them half or full. They'll grab and cut them for you so fast.

D G.

Yelp
Great place to eat. The order line and wait time was a little long. I understand it was busy.

J W.

Yelp
6/9/24 about 11:30 AM go to buy Chinese sticky rice dumpling (zongzi 粽子) for 6/10/24 dragon boat festival. There are 3 bbq sales associate males and one says does not know sticky rice dumpling. Cashier does not answer a simple inquiry whether has sticky rice dumpling or not. Instead, two cashiers gossip in front customer and hold for decades of minutes and then say don't have sticky rice dumpling. Poor customer service of Sam woo with mediocre fast food.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
Quick and good. If you want to get some chinese bbq, this is a good place to go. Most of it is all ready and you just look at the window and point to what you want. They also have a big menu of Chinese cuisine, that they can make fresh in the back. I typically come here for the roast duck, sausage and roast pork. It's not the too best, but just good. Very tasty for being a quick place for pick up and is open late.

Ky T.

Yelp
I have an obsession with the food at this place for 34 years. I have brought many people here and they all like the food and services. Can't go wrong on a hungry stomach.

Sweet G.

Yelp
I really love this place, great food and excellent customer service. I got Sampan porridge today for my brunch. One order came with so many side dishes. Yummy .

christina l.

Yelp
restaurant is clean and roomy love their roast pork belly especially but sadly I'm a bit disappointed how the waitress that work there treated us. We got seated pretty fast we kindly ask the waitress can we order the roasted pork belly by pound since we don't see it on the menu. she said no we have to order on the deli section we said ok it's fine we'll just order the duck and string beans first. After we finish ordering we proceed to walk to the deli side to order the pork belly and char siu then went back to our table to enjoy our food but then mid way got stopped and was told to put our takeout away since we can't eat it there... like excuse me? We bought it from you guys but can't eat it there? Anyways we didn't make a fuss about it (but next time maybe learn better English? Or explain better?) But anyways after that we said ok we'll put it away and continue eating the duck and string beans... but that didn't end there because after all that the waitress started checking up on us ever few mins to make sure we didn't take our Togo order out again like we're some kind of criminal then we hear her yelling at the deli people like "next time keep an eye on the customer! Or else they going to be like them and eat here" like excuse me? Did we not pay for our food or something? My bf even tip them 25% each on top of the bill both deli take out side and dine in.

Sheryn M.

Yelp
I was craving a char siu rice plate and decided to come to this location because the Le Yuen BBQ in San Gabriel was closed. I didn't know they close on Mondays. The price for a large char siu rice plate is $9.50. Definitely a great deal! The pork was juicy and well-flavored. Mostly lean meat. I didn't expect such a huge and generous portion of char siu; the quality of the rice took me by surprise. It was perfectly cooked not that mushy cheap rice. The jasmine rice was all separated grains. It also comes with a side of boiled cabbage. I like this better than the Yu Choy which tends to be old and tough. I added two marinated eggs ($1.50 each) The total is under $14 with tax.

Tae N.

Yelp
Both the BBQ Pork and Crispy Pork was super dry. Would not recommend. That's all I want to say.

Mike O.

Yelp
Breakfast until 2:30pm. They have this special combo porridge plus noodle, fried noodle, fried dough, Vietnamese coffee all for $12. I think its a very good deal.

Chung O.

Yelp
Yelp say 9:00 pm closed but i came at 8:30 just to order the chicken feet in the fridge for togo ( its in the fridge that why i dont call ) . But they already locked the door . They shouldve let us know on Yelp that they close at 8:30

Hurjane V.

Yelp
Lol at an article my friend sent me about Sam Woo owner evading taxes...this place still poppin' though! PSA: there is an older Sam Woo nearby that probably is a health hazard...come to this location because parking is better, and much cleaner! A smaller crowd too. My family only comes here for 2 things: roast pork belly and roast duck. Just like most Cantonese style BBQ places, you pay per lb. FYI that the employees here don't speak English or Mandarin...so good luck with Cantonese and miming lol! Overall, would come here again! And yes- they take credit cards!

Jay W.

Yelp
This is what we actually get, lets share the quality of food that you will buy here. Terrific, pig is roasted to the darkest...and with hair. Server charge with incorrect amount as well. So, definitely no come back.

Channy C.

Yelp
I just ordered food and drink . The coffee so shacks . Specially cashier so bad attitude...

Lily H.

Yelp
Sam Woo has been a household name for good take out food and bbq/roasted items, such as pork, chicken and duck. This Sam Woo is located on the corner of Valley Blvd and Walnut Grove in Rosemead. If you're coming north from Walnut Ave Sam Woo is pretty hidden from rows of other restaurants and shops. Luckily parking is plentiful here. Due to the current pandemic, the restaurant is open to only take out orders. The had a variety of ducks, chicken and pork left to choose from. Make sure to check the menu to see if they are priced by pound or by each individual item. You can also order other dishes, like chow mein, noodles, tofu...etc. Highly recommend calling in the order beforehand, so you can stop in and pick up easily. Of all the times I've been here, it's always getting, roast pork, chicken or a duck, this time tried getting a single dish. Since my neighborhood to go restaurant was closed, decided to try Sam Woo's rendition of braised tofu with vegetables. It was a bit of a let down. For the price and the amount of food, it was not worth it. The box was partially filled and was probably good for serving one person. For the price of a dish there you can basically get like almost half a duck or chicken. Also, this Sam Woo is a bit pricier than the other Sam Woos in the area. Down the street on San Gabriel, that Sam Woo cost slightly less. The only difference with this Sam Woo is that it's in a newer building and location. The interior is more updated as well as a newer looking menu board. I still prefer to have good food and decent portions than how the restaurant really looks. If you're shopping around for some roasted or bbq meat, this Sam Woo has it all.

Kit C.

Yelp
This place is definitely better than the other HK cafes in terms of the quality and price of the breakfast menu. The female servers are so friendly as if you were their friends and families. The drink selection is huge no extra charge for cold drink. Drink Selection includes Chinese herbal tea or Vietnamese coffee! They deserve more business. Give it a try.

Carrie C.

Yelp
I pick up three dishes for lunch from Sam Woo BBQ in Rosemead. One of the dishes was braised tofu with brown sauce. My family ate the tofu which was sour in taste. I brought the dish back to the cashier who refused to refund me the money via my credit card or give me back the cash. He asked me to buy something for that amount. He mis-identified the price of the dish, picked the lowest one! We are not happy with the food or the service. Please be cautious of the food there! Thank you

Cindy C.

Yelp
Your typical Sam Woo place. Affordable prices and typical customer service compared to other Asian restaurants. This place is cash only. FOOD I've been here twice: one time for dinner with a big party and recently for brunch. Dinner was inexpensive, roughly $100+tip and tax for about 7 dishes. We also had leftovers. In my recent visit, we tried their brunch on a Sunday morning around 10:15am. I ordered the beef stew lo mein, and the dish came out very quickly after we placed the order. The soup was okay, a little weird for me so I didn't really drink much of it. I'm used to the broth being a bit clearer and having green onions in them. The dish was nothing special nor any different from any other places. The beef was tender. My boyfriend got the chicken steak western breakfast, and oh boy, that dish took 40 minutes to come out! We asked 3 times on the status, and the waitress said that the chef might be backed up due to the volume of orders. We finally gave up and told them if it's not made yet, we want to cancel it. Miraculously, it came out in less than 1 minute. I did notice that the western dishes took a long time to come out for other customers. There was a family of 4 who placed their orders while we got seated, and only 2 dishes came out for them when we hit the 30 minute mark. The dish itself was okay. The chicken was thankfully cooked really nicely, which is why they got the 3 stars instead of 2. However, it's not worth the 40 minute wait and had we known, we would have ordered something else. Tip: if you want the western breakfast, come early before the restaurant is full to ensure you avoid a 40+ minute wait just for the food. SERVICE There was a table not too far from us that made a ruckus. The husband pounded on the table and yelled at his wife, whom left the restaurant. He continued eating and with food in his mouth also yelled at his mother (or mother in law) too. I felt the restaurant went quiet. The manager came over to ask if the food was okay and/or if they needed anything. I appreciated that the restaurant didn't ignore his behavior and came over to check in on them. PARKING Located in the same Plaza as McDonald's and a few other eateries. Parking will be tough during peak lunch and dinner hours so come prepared. WOULD I COME BACK AGAIN? Depends on who I am going with. I would probably opt to go somewhere else with quicker service even if it means paying a $1 or $2 more.

Matt L.

Yelp
raised prives and my $13 beef westlake soup only had beef, tofu, and egg. The beef in my beef chow fun was not fully cooked. I ordered 6 dishes and costed me $78 and somr change. horrible food!

Vivian A.

Yelp
Pre COVID-19 post. Parking: This establishment is located in a plaza with a lot of other restaurants and a supermarket. Do not come here during peak hours unless you don't mind circling a bit for a parking spot. There are some underground parking, but it's a bit of a walk from the underground parking to get to this restaurant. I usually come here right when they open or one hour before they close to find parking super easily. Staff: I am giving this place only three stars because the staff never check up on you. You have to walk up to them or wave very close to their face to get their attention. We asked for more hot tea and it took them over 20 minutes to get it to us. The staff were impatient and rude to us. Food: Even though the staff were terrible, my family and I love the food. That's their only redeeming factor for me. They give pretty big portions of food, so the prices are worth it. Overall, as long as you don't mind the bad service, you'll enjoy the food. :)

Rosie H.

Yelp
Unfortunately I have noticed that the quality and the taste of the food has not been as tasty as I remember it. The last time I came my order of fried rice just wasn't as good and it had cabbage mixed in. The honey walnut shrimp was so soggy and completely smothered in globs of mayonnaise that it was completely inedible...service is always so abrupt and uncomfortable--I don't think any of the locations have welcoming nor courteous service...but that's just me. Unfortunately, I love their crispy chow mein noodles and this is what keeps me coming back time and time again.

Kevin L.

Yelp
Whenever I come into a Sam Woo location, you can catch me gravitating towards the hot items. What I mean is I'll be staring at the wide selection of roasted duck (even though they all look the same) and the crispy roasted pork. A whole duck and a pound of sui yok is enough for me to meal prep on the days I go into the office. A happy stomach leads to a healthy life.
