"Located on a buzzy, vibrant street, Sambal serves a tantalising mix of Asian and European flavours. There’s a unique twist to the beloved Lap Mei Fun, with fragrant rice, Chinese sausage, char siew (honey BBQ pork) and crispy pork lard. The Udang Entangled claypot boasts a rich, creamy broth infused with Chinese wine, served with glass noodles and succulent prawns. The standout dessert is taro purée, a modern adaption of creamy Teochew yam." - Michelin Inspector

Food is very tasty, the lady serve us is very professional, she immediately can tell the booked guests where they sit and even for non booked guests she politely ask them wait a moment when she was talking to other guests and come back with options. She also introduced the menu very professionally remind us when we are going to order two similar things. The food are very delicious, we finished everything. Just the prawn glass noodle soup the wine taste is a bit too strong, if lighted it a bit will be perfect I think. Overall we are very satisfied with our meal there.

Visited this place around 3:40pm during the break and was thoroughly impressed by the level of service. The service attendant was exceptionally attentive, taking the time to thoughtfully introduce the menu and guide me through the selections. I ordered a few items but it was the claypot prawn vermicelli, and the garlic-infused broth that truly blew me away — it was so deeply aromatic, rich, and comforting, with flavours that linger pleasantly. It was easily the highlight of the meal. I also enjoyed a few cocktails and only realised later how generously they were poured, which was a delightful surprise. An overall refined and satisfying experience, and certainly a place I would return to.

Sambal Restaurant offers a confident modern take on Penang classics, with refined plating and flavours that largely respect tradition. The menu is thoughtfully curated, and the friendly service stands out, with staff taking time to explain each dish clearly and with genuine enthusiasm. The prawn vermicelli was the undisputed star of the night, deeply savoury, aromatic and full of umami, showcasing excellent stock work and balance. Several seafood dishes were also well executed. However, the cocktails were disappointing. Both the chilli padi and nutmeg cocktails lacked balance and restraint. Overall, a strong kitchen and warm service, but best enjoyed without the cocktails.

I had a fantastic experience today at Sambal. I came at 3 pm with my girlfriend and they were still serving us lunch. The person who greeted us at the entrance was Chris. He explained to us perfectly the menu and recommended every single dish that was good. The restaurant features fusion cuisine of Malaysian and other Asian cuisines the food quality was perfect and the different flavours were outstanding. I would 100% recommend anyone to eat The restaurant features fusion cuisine of Malaysian and other Asian cuisines the food quality was perfect and the different flavours were outstanding. I would 100% recommend anyone to eat at Sambal if crossing paths at Georgetown. Thank you Chris from the service for me and my girlfriend.

Lovely place, friendly and attentive staffs, amazing food! Every dish was perfect, from plating to flavour! I personally like the udang entangled (glass noodle with prawn) blended with wine. The soup was creamy and rich in flavour. Another was the bunga kantan drink, very distinctive flavor 👍👍.

What a surprise find as we were walking around aimlessly. It’s a Nyonya x Teochew fusion cuisine. First dish was “Nyonya Punya Salad”, a refreshing salad with green mango, beetroot, french beans, toasted coconut with chef’s homemade balsamic vinegar. Second dish was the Udang Entangled, a rich broth with Shaoxing wine with glass noodle, which to me was the show stopper. The third dish was Grilled Squid with stuffed pork, with Thai sauce and Garlic Aioli. We were stuffed. Overall, loved the food. I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

We decided to try out this place after reading so much about it, plus the hunger pangs we felt whenevet we drive past this place with an empty stomach 🤣 Lovely place that isn't that big, which gives it a nice "boutique-like" feel, coupled with nice lighting and decorations greatly enhanced the ambience. Food was delicious. Love the flavours exuded, the use of herbs especially local herbs to give an extra punch was well noted. The drinks were good for me. Again, using local herbs to deliver the exceptional touch. Prices were, in my opinion, affordable for this type of establishment. Portions are decent too. Will come back 😋

The glass noodle broth so thick and rich. Very strong taste of shao xing wine,if u like u can try. While for the rice, it cook with lotus leaf and the sauce mix it just perfectly match, while the char siu taste so good, can feel it fully marinated but wont too salty or too sweet. For the squid egg, surprisingly match with rice cracker at bottom layer, taste sour (lime i guess) with chopped laksa flower and onion.
