Sammi & Soupe Dumpling

We visited as a group of 7 on Saturday early afternoon; the restaurant was packed, but we were able to be seated immediately. Total after taxes and tip was approximately $160. It’s noted that we weren’t too hungry, so we didn’t order that much. (Note that not all food items ordered are pictured.) For big eaters or those who are famished, expect a higher bill. Some notes on some of the food: The hot and sour soup was a bit thin, but was seasoned well and tasty. I would’ve loved a bit more soup though; it was a small bowl. Peanut butter cold noodles were a bit disappointing, as it was under seasoned. The noodles used also tasted and felt almost like spaghetti; I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what they used. For soup dumplings, we ordered normal pork, sweet pork, crab & pork, and lamb & coriander. The dumplings tasted and looked like they were made fresh on location, and had an adequate amount of soup filling in each. They were very satisfying to have, as soup dumplings are just a phenomenal food item. However, the dumpling skins were just a tad lacking on chew and texture, and some were steamed too close together, leading to a few broken skins and spilled soup. The normal pork and crab & pork ones were the best, but were a bit on the sweet side for some reason. The sweet pork ones were just way too sweet. The lamb dumplings were interesting, but led me to the conclusion that lamb and soup dumplings don’t go well together. If you’re craving soup dumplings, this place will satisfy that craving, but there are many improvements that could be made (better skin, better seasoned filling, more soup, more careful placement in the steamers).

I love love and love their soup dumplings! When k moved to Ottawa I was craving for soup dumplings and I found this place! My kids love this place! I have all their dumplings best is chicken and shrimp!

Very good restaurant highly recommend. If you like dishes with peanuts this is your place to go to and they have a cold tofu Dish as well a nice little appetizer with chili oil nice thing to have while you wait for the main course... as usual photos down below.

While the corn was good, this is actually the best thing I did eat on my trip to Ottawa. I love Xiao long bao and this spot did not disappoint. It's located right underneath a gay bar (who put on a really fun drag show I went to as well), the highlights for me were the chocolate, shrimp with tom yum, juicy pork with snow crab, and juicy pork with truffles dumplings. I was really quite hyped for the lamb with coriander dumplings but they were a bit of a miss. Went here for lunch on two separate days and loved it both times.

The food was fantastic! Dumplings were amazing, rich in flavour, hot and generally exceptional. I suggest you stagger your choices so they are consumed hot as they are about 100 times better when hot and if you have too many at one time they cool down rather fast. The food part of the experience was exceptional. The chairs / seating on the other hand is very hard wood planks, despite the benches looking like they are padded it’s a very hard padding. If you’re sitting and visiting this can be uncomfortable but manageable. Staff is pilot, they give you lots or privacy, so if you need anything you have to be aware to ask them as I believe it’s part of the serving philosophy to leave you alone after being served (great for conversation time with your guests). Overall really enjoyed this experience.

Love the delicious Spicy Juicy Pork and the Pork & Coriander soup dumplings here! It's a lovely comfort food for the winter, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. :)

The dumplings are authentic and delicious. The service was a bit slow, but probably due to it being Friday. Clean place, amazing food. Definitely worth it.

I have heard about this restaurant from those who visited Montreal and I was seriously planning to travel to Montreal to try Sammie,'s. But I recently learned that they got a new location in Ottawa, closer to home! Aaaaand here I am finally! Their menu has several different XLB flavors. One basket comes with 10 pieces and if you prefer you can do half and half with $1 extra. XLb size is a bit bigger than many other places. The wrapper was hand pleated and thin, which i appreciated. We ordered the following XLBs. 16 Pork & shrimp & scallop 18 Juicy lamb and coriander 20 Juicy pork & crab 36 Krobuta Pork and summer truffle (special menu. $19.99 for 5pcs.) Best was crab meat one. The soup was a bit sweet for my liking but integration of skin, soup and meat was smooth and had good crab flavor. Pork and summer truffle was also good. The soup was not sweet, which I appreciated about. Simple, unique and smooth. Shrimp & scallop did not have the seafood "flavor" that I expected in this one. Yes each piece had a little bay scallop piece but this chunk, IMHO, hindered the texture. Not as smooth as other kinds of XLBs and had less soup. Least liked flavour was lamb. The gamy flavor was too strong to be suitable for this simple and delicate steamed dumpling style. And a bit oily. We also had the following dumplings: 21 Pork and cabbage (pan fried) 27 Shrimp and cabbage (pan fried) Both looked nice with beautiful fried wing. But the dumpling itself was dry and bland. Another note: They do not have complimentary tea. You will have to pay $7 for one pot. We chose not to order tea and ate with water. You will have to stop a server to ask for filling the glass. They do not voluntarily come to the table to pour in empty glasses. Additional note: XLBs do not come with julienned ginger! The service was unfortunately unattentive although we were here off-peak hours.

The soup dumplings here are a fantastic deal, and the restaurant itself it such a nice place to eat with friends. All the food was solid. That being said, although the food was solid, it wasn't anything crazily delicious. I got a half & half order of the soup dumplings (recommended!!) with the juicy lamb & coriander and the pork, shrimp, & scallop dumplings. I was expecting a blast of flavor from all the ingredients, but.....they honestly tasted a little bland. That's why I'm giving this place 3 stars. The noodles were good and cheap, great way to switch up flavors/textures in the meal instead of just eating dumplings. Another downside is that service was SO slow. The place was crowded, but the servers weren't very attentive and stood around a lot. I had to ask for water refills and for an ETA of the food. So overall, a cheap and fun place to eat with friends, but don't expect quality xiao long baos from here!

Sammi & Soupe Dumpling was my favorite dumpling restaurant when I lived in Montreal, I'm happy that they opened a location in Ottawa. It's just as good as I remember and most likely the best dumplings in Ottawa!

A bit later than they had originally planned but Sammi & Soupe Dumpling from Montreal has finally opened in Ottawa. We swung by around 11:30am to check it out. It's at the old Kinki spot. When we arrived there was a lineup inside. We asked if we sign up with numbers and a name but the people waiting said no and that we just wait in line. There were about 10 people ahead of us and the space isn't that large. We ended up waiting outside as it wasn't that cold outside. After 5-10 minutes somebody inside came out to let us know it'd be about 30 minutes until we'd get a seat. While waiting in line there were a lot of food delivery people coming in and out of the location and I think the staff as well. Slowly and steadily the line started to build outside and the line inside started getting seated. We got in a little over 40 minutes later which wasn't to bad. We sat down, scanned a QR code to bring up the menu and we were pretty sure what we wanted. I ended up getting an order of the shrimp, scallop, pork steamed dumplings and an order of pork and chive pan fried dumplings. Took about 15 minutes to get our food which isn't bad as everything is made to order. The steamed dumplings were OK. I tried the classic one from my friends order and I think I liked that more than what I ordered. The dumplings themselves were OK. The pan fried dumplings were fine as well. All in all about $30 and a long wait. Food is OK. They're still working out the kinks in their operations it seems but not taking that into account for my rating. Please be patient as they seem understaffed during the rushes.

The star of the show was the classic pork soup dumplings! We also enjoyed having the fried pork and cabbage dumplings and seaweed salad. The matcha mojito was unique and really good too. I would get that again.

I loved the great taste of Xiaolongbao Food in the Ottawa location. This place has an excellent ambiance. The noise level is acceptable and fun! The Restaurant staff are nice even when this place may be busy! Keep up the good work! You all are doing an excellent job! The soup is great and the appetizer sides are in good spirits. You customers should go there when you are in Ottawa. It's up to you!

These are the best dumplings I've had in Ottawa. The chicken and mushroom soup dumplings are juicy and flavourful. I find I get bored of the flavour at other dumpling places but I think I could have eaten round after round here if I wasn't so full after the first round. The staff were very kind and responsive, always making sure we were doing well and that our waters were full. As for the ambiance, I have no notes.

Came here because my partner adores this chain of restaurants but it was a bit of a let down. Im an east asian person and I had some issues with the food and its authenticity. The dumpling wrapper is too thick and uncharacteristic of soup dumplings. The hot and sour soup was not hot or sour, and is more like a chicken stock. The service was friendly but a bit slow, but its an up and coming place. Will try it again soon!

Best soup dumplings (Xiao long bao) in town. They are authentic, with the wrapper being thin and yet still holding the juice perfectly. The tea selection is good as well.

Service was quick and attentive. Dumplings were great too. We tried the classic, the spicy pork, sweet pork, and the pork, shrimp and scallop. All of them were satisfying. Place had great ambiance too. And not too busy at noon on Sundays. Highly recommend!

The food is absolutely delicious, i crave those peanut butter noodles 24/7 but the service is so slow and the seating and overall place itself is made small, so most of the time there's a huge line outside.

The dumplings were phenomenal. Our party ordered the spicy juicy pork dumplings. Our waitress was also very attentive.

Delicious dumplings. Would not fill up on sides save yourself for the dumplings! Will definitely return.

Very good food and service was very attentive. I got classic juicy pork and beef and curry pan fried dumplings which were delicious. The food came out fast and our cups got refilled with water often. Great place to visit in Ottawa!
