Yelp
Sammy G's is a well-loved local establishment in the north High Point area, and the namesake is that of Sammy Giannopolous, a well-loved restaurateur in the Triad. You can find his fingerprints all over this tavern with several dishes clearly inspired by his original Italian restaurant up the road Gianno's (though that has since changed hands). There is a bit of an Italian flair to this tavern, though you can certainly find American favorites like burgers, fish and chips, etc. as well.
We visited a few days before Christmas last year, and the joint was decorated for the season and hoppin! Our server was attentive without being overly so, and all the dishes came out in a timely fashion. We had an order of the house chips as an appetizer, and they definitely don't short you on the portion here for these. The chips were crispier, which I like, I am not one for floppy chips.
Dinner came with a house salad, greens were fresh, and I was happy to see that the creamy italian dressing that I grew to love at Gianno's was here for the taking. For dinner I had the stuffed flounder, and while it wasn't disappointing, I was hoping for a bit more flavor from the sauce. Flounder and shrimp are of course kind of bland on their own, could have benefitted from more zing. Overall, I was pleased though.
Sammy G's is a great place to take a group or a date anytime of year, and the menu has enough variety to please any palette. We'll come again sometime!
