Sammie's Bar-B-Q Review - Fort Worth - Dallas - The Infatuation

"Sammie’s is the place to experience a Dallas barbecue legend. Sam Gibbins Sr. used to own Smoke Pit for 56 years, serving DFW’s juiciest pork chop until closing down in 2018. He took over and renovated Sammie’s before passing it over to his son, who keeps the family legacy alive and offers the two-inch slab of meat on Fridays. This spot doubles as a second home for local dads wearing AC/DC T-shirts and arguing about Texas sports—join them for the big pork chop and huge portions of vinegar-based coleslaw and baskets of fried okra, along with a couple of ice-cold Miller Lites." - Lee Escobedo

Their food is DELICIOUS! Their sides are so good. The zucchini casserole and potato casserole were so good. I usually don’t like american bbq but this stuff is delicious. Fall apart brisket and very tasty hot links

Google
Don't miss this place. It's a bit off the beaten track. The staff is incredible. The food is beautiful. A true gem. Keep up the good work. ❤️ Recommend!

Google
I thought Sammy’s was alright. It just didn’t seem to be my style of bbq and the potato casserole was dry and room temperature. The service was fast and friendly, but overall I think this style of bbq isn’t for me.

Google
Don’t miss Sammy’s if you’re in Dallas. A proper BBQ outfit in the middle of towers was quite unexpected. The food was fantastic—both meats and sides. The prices were inexpensive by comparison to any good BBQ restaurant, much less one in the middle of the city. More importantly, the service; I arrived 10 minutes before closing (they still had all meats available and only mac and cheese was finished for sides) and they insisted I stay to eat. I didn’t eat quickly as I understood another couple behind me was also finishing up, however when I stood to depart it was readily apparent they were not customers and it was only me keeping employees from going home. Yet not once was I hurried. And when I apologized they were as gracious as ever. Overall, a fantastic experience I’m sure they’ll replicate for you if you choose to visit—and I highly recommend you do. Update: Visited again after 8 months, at opening on a Saturday. The service was exemplary once again—6 stars! The sides and atmosphere were fantastic again. However, the brisket was closer to chopped than sliced and overall dry. As it was a Saturday in a business district (components for being open at all!) it was possibly not the weeks’ best meat. Overall review will stay a 5, suggest being choosy on the day you visit.

Google
The food is always good. Wish the hours were a little easier to navigate if you don't work downtown, but still great if you can swing down on a Saturday. Great BBQ, sauce, fries, onion rings, fried okra, and mac & cheese.

Google
Sliced beef sammich was 10/10. Sauce on the side, that’s how I ride. Cold slaw truly exceptional not too wet, sweet or mayonnaise corrupted. Cold mug for my brew is a nice touch.

Google
Sammy’s has good barbecue and it’s a great value. The meats are quality and they have traditional and non-traditional sides that are all very good. The people are very friendly and the place has a good old barbecue joint feel and checks all the boxes on my list for this type of experience.

Google
I got the two meat platter with ribs and sliced brisket. Very bland. Even the barbecue sauce was bland. The baked beans, the server told me they were barbecue style, they were not. They were ranch style beans. The outside tables were rusted. I really think this place could be really good if you had a new chef, and a remodel! Very pricey!

Yelp
You gotta love a place that puts the Gonzales Flag on its takeaway cups. But Sammy's also has a great room (albeit with odd temperature zones), good eats and friendly workers who checked on us repeatedly while we lingered for hours. Good prices, I suppose (cheaper than where I'm from, if not inexpensive). The brisket and jalapeño sausage were quite good, the pork loin was fine and the sauce was not really that exciting (sweeter and less piquant than I prefer). The sides I had (mac and cheese and potato casserole) looked a lot better than they actually were. Portions were generous for the price. Certainly not the ridiculous crowds one sees at some places on a Saturday. I'd certainly return and I'd bring others (I could go for more of that brisket right now, the next morning). Looking forward to doing so on my next trip to the neighborhood, in fact.

Yelp
Sammy's catered our wedding eve dinner for family and friends in our home. Manny arrived with prepared food, serving dishes, plates, utensils, ice - EVERYTHING - and also served. As the bride and groom-to-be, we didn't have to turn on the oven, open the fridge, or wash a dish. He helped us make everyone feel so welcome and helped keep their glasses full. The crowd loved the brisket, turkey, mac & cheese, and spinach salad so much there were just a few bites left. And I almost missed the amazing peach cobbler. It was such a relief to trust dinner to Sammy's - I highly recommend them to feed any crowd that appreciates good Texas BBQ! Since we didn't have the leftovers we hoped for, we went to Sammy's for a delicious chopped brisket sandwich lunch after the weekend's festivities.

Barbecue was great. Okra very good. Onion rings to die for. Prices reasonable very nice people running it

Yelp
Went here for lunch with a co-worker. The place has a super chill vibe with indoor/outdoor seating. The staff was very friendly and ordering was quick and easy cafeteria style. They have the basic meats and a good variety of sides. I had the brisket which was done well enough (no puns here). I did need sauce with it as it was on the dry side. I really really enjoyed my sides though. The Zucchini casserole in particular was yummy. It's a good spot for a casual meal.

Yelp
Delicious Bbq, with red rings on the tasty, juicy brisket and ribs. Friendly staff with great explanation of the food. Loved it !

Yelp
My review is for food only. I did not visit the restaurant, my order was picked up and delivered to me. The ribs yuck! They taste like they were boiled then put on the grill (maybe), and they were dry and old! The sausage didn't appear to have stayed on the grill for very long (sort of like it was warmed) but it at least tasted pretty good! Of the three meats I tasted, the chopped brisket was the best, but because the sauce is so greasy, I didn't really enjoy that either! The sides were the best thing they have going at Sammy's. Onion rings (even after traveling from the restaurant to the office, they were great and Aunt Glenda's potato casserole was good. Overall, nothing about this restaurant speaks to authentic Texas bbq, except the sides and the decor that I saw online!

Yelp
We went around 1:30 on Friday afternoon for lunch. That probably says most if we're talking about the brisket that was left on the day. The brisket wasn't the most flavorful and a little more fatty than I'd liked, but there has to be some fat for the flavor. They also didn't have fried okra, which I heard was a go-to for sides. I had the brisket plate with zucchini casserole. Think of stuffing mixed with steamed zucchini. For not being a zucchini fan, I was surprised at the taste and consistency. Thick and filling as you'd expect, I recommend! The service was speedy and although I asked for someone lean to the brisket, it was more fatty. The place would be a great venue for happy hour if there was an additional bar, but it looks like the offer music at certain points in time during the week. Yelp
Disappointed every time I have been there . BBQ is bland and small chinchy portions . Girls are pretty but snobby . The girls are their " main attraction ".. Went to Panther City BBQ and there was no comparison , Chopped sandwich at both places are $12 , BUT the Panther City sandwiches are TWICE the size and TWICE as good ... If you want to see pretty girls , go to a beauty pageant , if you want the best BBQ in town go to Panther City BBQ.

Yelp
Ate here a couple times, very good, everything was delicious, nicely decorated inside

Yelp
Love this place! I always order moist brisket, German sausage, fried okra (OMG, the best!!!!), and salad. Very busy place, but the line moves fast. I highly recommend it. The guy at the register (maybe owner) is incredibly friendly and always genuinely thanks you for your business. No need to go anywhere else. Quality, taste, cost, and customer service never disappoint!

Shane K.

Yelp
As always great brisket and sides. Can't go wrong with this Dallas BBQ spot for a quick business lunch or to meet up with a group.

Cindy G.

Yelp
I love Sammy's. Very consistent restaurant. Love sitting outside feels like a garden in the city. Food quality is great. My favorite are the brisket. Fried okra and corn. Staff is exceptional always friendly and helpful. Can't got wrong with lunch at Sammy's

Yelp
Some tasty brisket and plenty of sides. I had a chopped brisket sandwich, caesar salad and potato casserole. Some barbecue places serve their chopped beef already mixed with the sauce so you have no options to toggle the strength of the sauce to meat ratio. Here they don't pre mix it and you get to take control of life again! Don't forget to order a drink so you can take your souvenir cup home - I love those things. We sat outside and enjoyed the music for lunch. I should have gotten a dessert- I'll be back!

N M.

Yelp
Today while at lunch with a colleague, a cashier weirdly overcharged me for a sliced brisket sandwich meal (which includes 2 sides), however I only purchased sandwich and a bag of chips. The additional side was a cob of corn..bringing the total to $17.50. A sliced beef sandwich and chips are less than this per the menu and my experience. However, while eating lunch I noticed the cashier nervously eating a cob of corn :) We also made eye contact several times. Not a huge deal, and I am unable to prove it, but I thought the cashier should know - You're not that slick! Hope you enjoyed it :)

Yelp
I happened to get stuck in Dallas on a long layover and decided I wanted to leave the airport for some authentic Texas BBQ, and this place was all that and more. Not only was the food great, price wasn't too bad, and the restaurant had this great Texas vibe that I love. They even had Topo Chicos In the drink fridge!! And to top it all off, all the staff were extremely friendly, the owner even helped show me how picking up food works as he could see it was my first time. Next time I'm stuck in Dallas, I'll definitely be stopping here again!

Yelp
Loved Sammy's BBQ! I knew coming to Dallas I'd be getting some good Barbeque, but Sammy's was better than expected! The portion sizes here are huge and at a manageable price point. I ordered the brisket sandwich with zucchini casserole as my side. Wow, the brisket was super tender and flavorful, but I loved, loved, loved every single bite of that casserole. I could hardly believe I was eating zucchini! The hot pepper bar offers as many jalapeño peppers and pickled veggies as you can eat! I also really loved that the drink cups were a souvenir. I'll fondly remember my time at Sammy's thanks to the cup. Oh and the staff were as nice as can be! Not only generous with their portioning when serving, but genuinely excited to have my enjoy my meal. Free outdoor Parking right outside of the restaurant:)

Yelp
The pork ribs are fall off the bone delicious. The sides were the highlight you need to get the zucchini casserole and the slaw if you're going to get a bbq plate. All of the staff were friendly and very helpful with recommendations

Yelp
This is the 2nd year that I ordered my holiday meal well in advance just to call and find out they would not have my order because they were out of ribs! They ruined my Christmas meal last year. I decided to give them another chance this year for Thanksgiving. Now I have to figure out what to do so that we have Thanksgiving dinner. Uuuggghhhh!!! My suggestion is to never depend on them for the holiday!

Victoria D.

Yelp
Incredibly friendly staff, great venue for parties (with margarita machine ) and damn good bbq!!! Casamigos + Cointreau = one happy girl
google avatar

Josh F.

Yelp
Great food! Super tender flavorful brisket. My ribs were fall off the bone. And this is my first time saying this when referring to chicken breast, but I thought it was the star of the show. The staff were absolutely friendly and welcoming to my large loud family. I will be back. Gladly.
google avatar

Ahmet M.

Yelp
BBQ Brisket was to die for, people are genuinely nice. This was our first time here they took the time to explain the menu. More importantly once we were seated they came by 3-4 times to see how things were going and how we like the food. With all the labor shortages especially in the hospitality industry congratulations to this ownership team for providing top notch service. Next trip will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Que puedo desir bbq just geting better fast efficient adorable price if you know about good BBQ this is one of them
google avatar

Kazi S.

Yelp
I feel like this place was looking forward to ending their lunch run and preparing for dinner. The meat tasted a little dry and pretty old. The sides were not up to par either. I would say the French fries were the only item that was enjoyable which doesn't seem like it should in a BBQ joint.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
Very disappointed.... I was expecting a phenomenal bbq meal. The brunette was dry or at the least bit very moist. The ribs weren't fall off the bone and had very little meat to bone ratio. I judge my bbq on if you can eat it without sauce and this bbq requires the bbq sauce they serve not only to add a needed flavor but to and some moisture too it. If that was low fat brisket te you need to tell your customers because it was not a good meal. I won't be visiting again especially when Dickeys BBQ is just as bad for way less money.
google avatar

Drew A.

Yelp
I was a lil disappointed as Texas is supposed to be big on BBQ, etc. I did come on a Monday afternoon just as they were about to close...so maybe that's why my exp was not grand. Portions were on the smaller side for a $18 two meat plate. 4 ribs and 4 thin slices of brisket. The baked potatoe cheese casserole specialty was cold and had no flavor. I've had tastier Coleslaw at Kentucky fried chicken! Meat was ok flavor wise...but not Texas special as I was psyched up for. I'll try another spot, probably won't be back here...

Anne P.

Yelp
Best bbq in Dallas, love the food, service~~~ Family ran, definitely Dallas locals favorite!!!

Bob M.

Yelp
Been going there for 20+ years. Fantastic sides. Meats are excellent, the green tomatoes on the side station are in my dreams.

Betsy B.

Yelp
Trust me, you want to eat here. The meats are fabulously smoky and tender, and sides are amazing. Fries and the best onion strings ever made to order, not to mention the potato casserole and fresh cole slaw. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful, and the atmosphere is just the right amount of rustic Stop reading and just go there.
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
Great bbq. I've probably passed this place for years before I knew it was here. **It's only open for lunch** It can get busy so I recommend getting before 12 to miss some of the crowd. It's cafeteria style ordering! You order you meats and sides in line and pay at the end. The brisket and okra are both very tasty. If you get a. Drink, it comes with a reusable cup.

Jennifer D.

Yelp
The meat was amazing! I had the chicken and it was so moist and flavorful! Cole slaw was great. The staff is very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Drea C.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here and was a nice welcome for my first time in Dallas. I got the chopped brisket and the ribs for the two meat platter with cole slaw and fried okra. The ribs were tender and the Smokey meat fell right off the bone. The brisket soaked in the bbq sauce I asked for and was the first thing I devoured. Also enjoyed the pickle bar, added pickles and onions went well with the meal. I ate the whole thing, to the owner/manager's delight and surprise. For $15 bucks it was a heck of a deal, it was the only meal I ate that day! I went right at 11am and it was a popular spot! By 1130 it had started to fill up, I can only imagine that by noon it must be packed.

Brooke J.

Yelp
Love this place even more every time I come! Everyone here is so friendly and attentive. Food is SO good and hits the spot every time. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
Good location. Barbecue is fantastic. The atmosphere is nice with enough TV monitors to keep you with whatever is going on in the sports world that day. Nice inside and outside eating area. I always get the three meat plate with brisket, ribs, and sausage.
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
Sammy's BBQ is on another level! If I could give 6 stars, I would! Heaps of bbq and some of the best sides in town. Be sure to get the pecan pie for dessert. Parking is easy, friendly staff and the menu is plentiful with all the different cuts of meat your heart could desire. Dallas has a gem in this restaurant!
google avatar

Jim L.

Yelp
One of my favorite Texas barbecue place. I totally recommend the brisket. Ribs are usually good but not today. I will update when I have another ribs and it is good again.
google avatar

Richard B.

Yelp
What a great place....I can't believe it doesn't have more reviews. I think the federal reserve guys are keeping it a secret. This is old school rustic Texas BBQ, when you think of Texas BBQ this is what to expect. Best of all is very good and very reasonably priced...highly recommended
google avatar

Brandon S.

Yelp
Forget the long lines and sky high prices at the at the Big BBQ joints in Dallas. This place is awesome! I had a two meat plate with no wait in line and loved every single bite. This place is tucked away, but do yourself a favor and stop in for some flavorful BBQ. You won't be disappointed.

S H.

Yelp
Excellent food - loved the bbq plates and sides. The green beans, baked beans, and brisket were especially good. Also, enjoyed the cobbler. Great service.
google avatar

Esteban S.

Yelp
I wouldn't say it's the best BBQ I have ever had but it's definitely delicious. The prices were extremely reasonable for bbq. The brisket was the highlight. Lean and flavorful. The fried okra is incredible, you can taste the freshness. I can't forget to talk about the pecan pie, it deserves 5 stars. It wasn't to sweet and topped with creamy vanilla ice cream. If your in the area you won't regret it.

Mickey P.

Yelp
Friendly service but this isn't Texas BBQ. Walk down to ice house and get some real smoked BBQ
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
I fancy myself a barbecue connoisseur and it always surprises me that this place doesn't consistently make the top of the "best of..." lists. In my opinion, their brisket is easily top 5 in DFW. This place doesn't just do bbq though... My wife and I rented Sammy's out for our rehearsal dinner, and words can't express how happy we were with the outcome. The staff was amazing, and the indoor/outdoor venue is ideal for any large gathering--it perfectly accommodates live music and dancing. It's hard to believe this place doesn't charge more for events. Don't miss the sides either (or the cobbler and pies(. Everything that comes across their counter is delicious!
google avatar

Moniqua H.

Yelp
I have to say this is some of the best bar-b-q I've ever had. The brisket was delicious, so soft. I got mine on toasted Texas toast instead of a bun which was amazing. I had a side of fries which are cooked upon ordering and very well seasoned. Everything I had was a large portion which is more than I can say for most places. The sweet tea was yummy as well as the spinach salad! If you want to catch this hidden gem drive slow. They're only open 4 hours a day 11am-3pm. The guys at the counter are so nice. Definitely will be coming back.

Yelp
God I love this place! Today I stopped in to pick up a quick order to go and I was blown away! Now, I've been to this place many times over the years but NEVER have I had the type of reaction that I had today. They had a sign posted that they were featuring "borracho brisket" so I ordered a $6 sliced beef sandwich with the "special" brisket. I actually MOANED (moaned I tell you!), when I took my first bite of this sandwich. Wow!!! I'm not exaggerating - this brisket was incredible! The BBQ here has always been good, but not this good! The meat was sliced thick and piled high on my bun and it was so tender it practically melted in my mouth! The bark on the outer edges was nice and dark and it had just the right amount of fat to make it juicy and not dry (like I've had in the past). This brisket was just as good as anything I've tried at The Slow Bone or Pecan Lodge. I just can't use enough adjectives to describe how incredible it tasted. I waited until I got to work to eat it and one of my co-workers walked by and said, "Mmmmm, that smells so good!" as I had bbq sauce & grease smeared all over my face! But I didn't ker! Also ordered a side order of their fried okra. It's the best around in my opinion! If you go here and they're featuring the burracho brisket, you won't regret trying it!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
quality variable. Thus us not pit smoked brisket. Mostly done in an oven. No smoke ring on the meat and no bbq taste. Poor cut of beef at best. I might try the chicken or ribs but if they're bad, no more.
google avatar

Hilary B.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place! As I walked in with my friend we were immediately greeted by one of the workers. He was incredibly friendly and described how everything was cooked and how to order and such. I ordered the brisket sandwich. At first I was a little worried as some of the pieces of meat were a little fatty. However it actually added to the flavor of the tender mouth watering meat. After one bite I didn't even notice the fat was there. I got mine covered in bbq sauce and my sandwich was so filling and delicious. You pay at the counter and seat yourself; however the staff checks on you and clears your plates for you. A little under ten bucks for a filling, tasty meal. Highly recommend.

Jake F.

Yelp
Best local BBQ in Dallas! Pretty hidden to tourists and more of a local spot. Much better price for similar quality of places like Terry Blacks.

Pamela D.

Yelp
Sammy's provided BBQ and sides for 25 people and from the packaging to the food everything was excellent. Highly recommend Sammy's if you need BBQ and sides for a party.
google avatar

Ronald S.

Yelp
Not Austin BBQ. But as good as it gets. Great smoke flavor and bark. Although I didn't get to play Zeppelin on the jukebox. Next time. Go Tornadoes!

Corey R.

Yelp
A delicious & reliable Bar-B-Q Pit Stop for Lunch! Brisket is delicious, and the sides always hit the spot! I try to stop here every time I'm in Downtown for Lunch!
