if you are looking for a true seafood experience this is the restaurant for you, we ordered “Our Fabulous Feasts for 2” but it is actually so big that it could easily fit 4 people, the lobster and crab legs were super fresh and juicy, so was the rest of the seafood except for the jumbo shrimp which seemed dry to me, everything in this restaurant is huge, they greet you with 3 varieties of bread and fresh vegetables, to drink we ordered corona margaritas and they were very tasty, the staff was very attentive and diligent and the restaurant itself has a very fun and pleasant decor! We will definitely be back for more!

Work lunch on a weekday. I think we were the first customers for the day, so things were a little quiet but we had someone with us soon as we sat down and we probably got some extra attention since they were not busy. Maybe summer is a different story. Menu is heavy on the seafood side, but they do have other protein options and combo meals. We were given a cold veg dish, corn bread, and garlic bread for the table to start while we were going through the menu. 3 out of the 5 of us went for various piri piri dishes, which everyone seemed to like quite a bit. I went for tilapia, which came with Cajun seasoned rice and a side salad. The fifth person got salmon. All the food that I tried was good (not great) - though everything was fresh. The portions are large, so you do get good value for your money. The service from our waiter Jeff was very good - he took care of us very well. Made good suggestions and was honest about his selections and why. No one had space for dessert. There are parking options - dedicated lot for Sammy's and street parking. There is also a Sammy's Shrimp Box diagonally across the street - the same ownership.

This is a great seafood 🦞 place! Plenty of food ! To start your table is brought veggies, a loaf of bread and garlic bread and cheese! All this before you even look at the menu! Lots of cozy seating options. The place is decorated sweet for the upcoming holiday ❤️. Plenty of parking with Valet. Portions were large. My lobster 🦞 was cooked and seasoned to perfection. Plenty of cocktails and wine to choose from. My first time to City Island and I would love to see it in the summer. You are practically at the end so you can see the LI Sound.

If you're looking for a dining experience that delivers on quality, service, and great prices, look no further than Sammy’s Fish Box. Located in the heart of City Island, this gem of a restaurant consistently impresses with its standout dishes and a welcoming atmosphere. One of their crowning achievements has to be the fried shrimp. I can confidently say they boast the best fried shrimp in City Island. Each bite is perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining succulent inside. It’s a must-try for anyone who appreciates seafood done right. Another highlight on the menu is the paella, which is simply outstanding. While advertised for two, it’s reasonable to say it could serve a small army – or at least up to six people! The generous portions ensure you’ll likely have leftovers to savor at home, making it not just tasty, but also a great value. The service at Sammy's is another area where they shine. The staff is attentive without being intrusive, always ready to make recommendations or ensure your dining experience is enjoyable. Sharing a meal with family or friends here feels like a special occasion, but it’s also casual enough that you can drop by anytime. A huge bonus is the free valet parking service. In a bustling area like City Island, this is a tremendous convenience that removes the stress of finding parking. The restaurant’s spacious layout is impressive, seating around 300 guests, so you never feel cramped, even during the busiest times. This makes it a fantastic option for both small gatherings and larger celebrations. Having been a regular patron for years, I can confidently say that Sammy’s Fish Box never disappoints. Whether you’re dining in or opting for takeout, the quality and taste remain consistently high. If you’re in the area and haven’t yet stopped by, you’re definitely missing out – I don’t think you will be disappointed!

Google
The parking was easy, liked the valet. The food was interesting.. We got fish and chips and the fried seafood platter. I swear it was all so flavorless and bland. It felt like glorified freezer food. The fries were all so soggy and my fish wasn’t flavorful at all compared to other fried fish I’ve had. The free bread was great lol. The fried pickles and coleslaw was also good. Can’t say it was worth the money at all. Maybe we went on a bad day bc people seem to love this place but I definitely didn’t

Google
Consistently good food with generous portions. Food is well seasoned. Each table gets a starter with salad, garlic bread, a crusty loaf, cornbread and pickled vegetables. Service is fast and in addition to standard sides, yellow rice and corn on the cob are also served. Servers are pleasant. There will be enough leftovers for a hearty meal the next day. The bill will add up.

Went to celebrate my birthday and was disappointed with the food. The service was not the greatest. I have been going to city island and to Sammy's for over 50 + years. I always have had my waiters for over 20 + yrs. On this day my waiter was not in. I ordered mussels and half was empty but they gave me another one. We had tilapia fish and it was very small the last time it was a bigger piece. I also had chicken with linguine, and the chicken breast was burnt as well as the wing. I also ordered chicken and shrimp Parmesan with linguine to go. When at home to eat the shrimp was over cooked and no taste. To conclude the quality of the food has gone down and service. I do know many of the owners in many of the restaurants in city island too. I have always rated Sammy's with 4/5 stars, for their food and service. I guess my waiters were not there on this day and it changed my rating based on the food and service. I have for years celebrated my birthday but this day was the worse.

Google
Manager name Steve was amazing. The food was fresh hot and delicious very well seasoned and amazing portion sizes especially with this economy. Prices were fair especially because it was winter and seafood is at market price and the parking was even more convenient. Definitely a place to return to for a lifetime . Loved it. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Yes, yes. I had the privilege of celebrating my 75th birthday there. My son & I were late in arriving & our group was waiting patiently for us. The staff took our orders promptly & the food came out fairly quickly. I ordered the shrimp which was great with a baked potato. The portions were generous & the shrimp was fried to perfection. Even though we stayed past their closing time, they graciously did not rush us. I live in California & just wish California had a restaurant like Sammy's. Thank you, Sammy's for helping to make my birthday special.

Yelp
Service is absolutely the best. We've been there countless times and since we have little kids it's hard to find a restaurant that doesn't get annoyed by them, the staff there is very nice and always gives them balloons. The food is very delicious and comes in quantity too. Prices are fair.

Yelp
Sammy's Fishbox is a national treasure. This is not a super upscale place, it's a little dated, but that's not the point. This place is an experience that anyone that visits New York City, especially the Bronx, should put on their list of places to visit. This is where real New Yorkers come to eat, not transplants. You'll see cops, firefighters, school teachers,, bus drivers, MTA train conductors and their families eating here. Real people eating in a real Bronx New York landmark. Come for the history. Stay for the food.

Yelp
Spent my birthday here! Food was amazing and our server was great! They gave me a necklace (it's my bday!) we were able to sit immediately which was great! They gave us some free apps, bread, cheese and some pickled veggies. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
I have been going here for 19 plus years. But today I had the worst food. I ordered the twin lobster with stuff, crab meat. I had in July on my birthday.it was so good. But today they told me the price increase by 10.00, which was not updated on the menu. I was ok with it because it was so good the last time I had it. The stuff carb meat was ok. i could not eat the lobster because it was so chewy and not tender. Now this is a 100 dollar meal. This only things I was able to eat was the stuffing and it was not that good either. The manager Daisy took $5 off the meal. Smh.

Yelp
Hanging out in my hometown of Yonkers and I've got some family from out of town here as well. So when we're all here there's something we absolutely have to do, go to City Island for seafood. Lol. My parents are a little on the older side so when they say "City Island", they meant a specific restaurant. However, the wait time for that place was so insanely long that we tried someone where new... Sammy's Fish Box. Here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Right on the main strip crammed in among the other businesses is this gem. There's actually 2 locations very near each other so things can get a bit confusing. Parking is a nightmare, honestly. Good luck. If you can find a spot on the street, like I did, that's your best bet. However, if you can't find a place on the street there are parking lots up and down the block that will be happy to take your money. Once inside you're a bit overwhelmed. It's so busy. Busy with customers and people, but also busy with decor. There are glowing signs above your head, light wood EVERYWHERE, plants and paintings seem to be randomly scattered throughout and the layout can be confusing. I guess all you really need to know is where your table is and where the bathroom is. Lol. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but there were 8 of us and they didn't miss a beat. Food: The menu here is huge. There are so many variations of dishes then those same dishes can be fried or put into combinations. Lol. There's just so much. Just visit their website. To start the meal complimentary bread with cheese and pickled vegetables is brought out to the table to share. For my entree I went with the shrimp-stuffed sole with a side or corn on the cob and rice. Delicious. It wasn't fine-dining level, but still VERY tasty. Everything has a delicious garlic-buttery flavor that just works! Lol. Value: It's seafood AND it's New York. Do your own math. Lol. $54.95 for my entree which again, includes the entree, the complimentary stuff and sides. So, come prepared to pay, but you'll really enjoy yourself. In conclusion, I'm glad that Johnny's Reef was so busy because it gave my family a different place to try out. You know? I'm all about trying new restaurants so it's about time they did too! I'd totally check this place out again. Their menu is long enough to keep any busy for a LONG time!

Yelp
I've never been to City Island but was told Sammys was the place to go for seafood. The place is huge! you can get lost inside and there's an outside area which we sat at. Immediately we were given a complimentary platter of fresh, warm bread, corn bread, a wedge of cheese, veggies, and olives. This was a great starting plate but such little cheese! The server took a long time to come to us once we sat down. I was hoping he'd give recommendations or walk us through the extensive, confusing menu but he just walked away after saying hi and us saying we didn't know what to drink yet. The drinks here are expensive. I thought being so far out of the city it would be cheaper but all drinks were $18+ each. There are so many options on the menu, its hard to decide what you want. Almost everyone around us got giant platters of an aray of seafood. The food was good but I wouldn't say the best seafood I've ever had. it was also very expensive so I probably wouldn't go all the way out there again for seafood when I can find other spots the same price or cheaper in NYC.

Yelp
Sammy's is STILL my favorite restaurant on City Island. I have been her many times before and during COVID with small to large groups. I most recently celebrated a milestone birthday for a family member post-COVID. I have yet to be disappointed by this establishment. Glad to see that they didn't skimp on the pickled veggies and yummy sesame seed bread that arrived to over table piping hot like it just came out of the oven. The cheese was different than many years ago but I'm not complaining. I often start off with Fried Calamari. It was lightly breaded and fresh. I would also recommend the Buffalo Wings & Buffalo Shrimp appetizer that is reasonably spicy. Please note that they use salad shrimp from this menu item but it's a hit overall. I tried their bulldog style margarita which hit the spot. I have never had an issue with their cocktails. We usually opt to share the Crab & Lobster Feast for 2 which was more than enough for 3 and now cost $179. There are plenty of leftovers which are just as good reheated as when brought to our table so the price is quite reasonable. The shining stars are the seasoning on the seafood and more than generous quantities of food. The seafood seasoning has always been consistently delicious, generous without being salty and the best compliment to their perfectly steamed seafood. I always leave with a to-go of leftovers especially when I eat the complimentary salad and sides of corn over yellow rice that come with each entree. An honorable mention goes out to kitchen for the generous portions of fried seafood that you get when you order from Sammy's Fried Specialties that is never greasy but always tasty. I have also recently ventured into the Italian Specialities section of the menu along with some others on my group. Everything was a HIT. The consistency of the Alfredo was perfection along with the Jumbo Shrimp that was the size of my palm. Another great dining experience at a classic restaurant whose quality has withstood the test of time and even COVID! Brave the traffic that can be intense on the weekends especially in the summer and head straight down to Sammy's Fish Box. Also take advantage of the complimentary valet.

Christine R.

Yelp
You can never go wrong when you visit Sammys Fish Box. The food is pretty good not overly seasoned especially the fried shrimp. The shrimp was borderline with the seasoning but it was still a good dish. They give you garlic bread, corn bread and bread with cheese. They finally got rid of the pickled vegetables. The drinks are extremely strong and it's a bad thing because you are only going to have one. Of course Sammys is one of the expensive places in City Island and it's worth it. The portion sizes are large and they stay open until about midnight(double check). The wait staff was hustling because they were extremely busy running from table to table. We arrived after 11pm and it was still crowded. I love to visit Sammys they have a nice vibe and everyone is so friendly.

Yelp
Visited on Monday July 1st 2024 Cooper was my waiter. He was very cheery and overall 10 out of 10. Our food was fresh and I would definitely recommend this New York staple restaurant. I got the super fried seafood combination dinner. It was enough to feed at least two people. It comes with a side and a salad. My friend got the crabcake platter and there wasn't a single piece of breading in it. It just look like straight lump crab.

Kevin K.

Yelp
Sammy's has been around forever and it shows. The island is blocked up for everyone trying to get here and park in their valet lots. Luckily if you get there early, it's not too bad of a wait! The restaurant is huge and it's almost possible to get lost inside, but at least that means there's plenty of seating. Definitely starting to look kind of old though. Service is also pretty quick to get people in and out efficiently. They open with pickles, bread, and cornbread. The cornbread was definitely the best part, but the bread and pickles weren't bad either. Not a big fan of it sitting in ice though. Makes things sopping wet as you try to eat it. The seafood here is fresh and cooked well. Nothing was over cooked like many places do with crab and lobster. On the other hand, I felt like some things could've used a bit more seasoning and flavor! The random tossing of parsley all over the plate should be fixed too. I shouldn't have to pull the parsley out of the butter dish just to dip my seafood. Place it around and lay the seafood on top! The rice was ok, but also could use more salt or seasonings. Overall, the amount of seafood you get at the recently raised prices is ok. it's not a GREAT deal, but i wouldn't say it's a bad deal for the quality and execution. The seafood is definitely good, but plating and seasoning need improvement.

Yelp
We chose to close out 2023 with an early dinner at Sammy's Fish Box on City Island in the Bronx and it was a great decision! Service was great as expected (this is my 2nd time here). The bar tender and server were very friendly and professional. The decor is the same, bright and fish themed. Now for the food, I had the jumbo shrimp stuffed with crab meat and my husband had the Red snapper with mango chutney. So delicious! Served fresh and hot. Great way to end the year.

Lorenzo G.

Yelp
Beat seafood ever hands down never a miss since the 1st time to the last time always the best I always get the lobster and crab feast

Vickgto W.

Yelp
The Food was really amazing all the sea food was fresh as it should be, and very friendly customer service.......

Nicole B.

Yelp
Sammy's sucks big time! Their crap that they call food is way over priced. It was a big event for us (25th wedding anniversary) that was ruined by these clows. Their lobster IS from Maine, but their lobster tails are crawfish that they pass off as lobster tails. The manager admitted as such. The shrimp cocktail tasted "aged" / old. The oysters on the half shell belonged in the garbage. That is not the worst part. There was a herd of ants crawling out the the wall (see below) that crawled all over our food. Instead of moving us and replacing the food, the staff just left us at the ant infested table. We were embarrassed, paid way too much money and were humiliated in front of our guests.

Amy C.

Yelp
The food was grate, had florentine fish, the blackened salmon, and kids chicken fingers. The pins colada was on the money. Got a little tipsy. The bread platter was awesome, so much food, they even gave my grandson ice cream for his birthday. Thank you Hussein. The ambiance was nice, not so loud. Perfect evening.

Min J.

Yelp
Rewind 5 years ago my husband and I used to go regularly on dates, this was the take out one. The shrimp basket was delicious and the tarter sauce was amazing. They made a yummy henny colada too. It was literally our go to spot. However fast forward to 5 years later we decided to come to relive some old memories and ignite our taste buds with memories too. It was disgusting, the shrimp had no flavor at all. The tartar sauce tasted like pure mayonnaise and had a yellow green tint as if it's old. I was truly disgusted and sad that they aren't consistent and offering quality food. They definitely don't care about their quality of food, their taste or the experience they offer the customer. I was so sad to sit here and watch my beautiful memories of the food fade away. Stay away. Food isn't good at all.

Jessie S.

Yelp
Food is fantastic The service is great and the place is very nice. You do not leave hungry people. You willl go home with food for the next day. Your leftovers will taste just as good.

Allison E.

Yelp
A great local business in the city island area that has been reliable for years. My parents had started coming here when they first began dating, and it has become family tradition to celebrate events here since then. Favorites are the Caribbean shrimp, the salmon options(all good), and the ribs & lobster. The restaurant is kooky in its own ways and adds a touch of home style traditional uniqueness in ways you don't see often in restaurants anymore. We've had a rotation of waiters throughout the year that we've become acquainted with. Sometimes you get great service, other times may be a little slow on service, but mostly because they're packed!

Britney S.

Yelp
I went to Sammy's to celebrate my father's birthday. Our server wasn't attentive. Our food came out but we still had plates on our table. When we asked for the table to be cleared the server responded "what to do you expect me to do?" Our first server finally came and we asked him to clear the table. We spoke to the manager about this incident and she provided us with a plate of rice and corn. This was unacceptable. In addition to this, our food was cold. We were very disappointed with the service and food.

Alexander R.

Yelp
We went to city island for lunch and happened upon Sammy's Fish Box. Sammys is a staple on the island, I've been there many times over the years. They always serve good food and drinks. They have a couple of outdoor patios that are decorated with numerous plants and have fans going all the time for comfort, however the fans weren't doing much in the heat. We stayed and enjoyed a good meal nonetheless, with some cold beer to combat the heat. The shrimp were huge! The hot antipasto was incredibly large with lots of different seafood. A really nice dish for sharing.

Amit K.

Yelp
It looks this is an old place on city island. This is the dandy place, across the street there is a cafe and next door saw an outdoor tent (I guess for summer). They have their own large parking lots. (In summer they valet ?) On a weekend afternoon, many large families all dressed up - I guess celebrating an occasion. The food is ok - a bit pricy.

Betty G.

Yelp
Took my sister to a birthday brunch and ordered paella. I hadn't been to City Island in about 10 years. The paella was for 2 but it was way more food than 2 could eat. One order can easily feed four to 6. It was fresh and delicious. Filled with lobster, king crab, mussels, clams, and. It was fresh . We went on a Saturday and didn't have a reservation but were seated fast. There is free parking. The ambiance is cozy and quaint nautical. The restroom was clean. The server was friendly and knowledgeable.

Starlight S.

Yelp
Amazing food and service. We went for my sister's birthday and enjoyed everything. It gets really busy so it's best to go early if you're going with children or don't like a crowd. The piña coladas are a must try. I've been going here for years and would recommend anything on that menu.

Tom S.

Yelp
Sammy's is good - a lot of food. I had the crab legs, 2 clusters and it was just right. With the bread, salad and rice there is certainly plenty to eat - never touched the rice

Kat B.

Yelp
My favorite is items to order from Sammys Fish Box at City Island is the - king crab and strimp scampi.

Dan K.

Yelp
Not to be confused with Sammy's shrimp box across the street - Sammy's fish box is pretty much all the way at the end of City Island Ave on City Island in the Bronx. I used to come to City Island with my family when I was a kid (many many years ago) for the rare treat - lobsters! So it was a pleasant nostalgic surprise when my mom suggested trying this place for Christmas lunch. They have multiple parking lots but there is one right across the street with complimentary valet. The whole place is stuffed with tchotchkes but clearly they double downed with extra Christmas decorations. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful - she kept calling everyone "love". Plates were cleared quickly and they thoughtfully brought bowls for shells. Let's talk about food. The nice bread platter came with fresh baked crusty bread, a corn bread loaf, and a tray of lightly pickled vegetables. The salads all came with what seemed like prepackaged dressing (eg, soso). We ordered a variety of lobster combos (one surf & turf and one with shrimp scampi). We also ordered the paella combo for two along with a few of their house cocktails. First, the paella for two was HUGE - which explains the $180 price tag. It was full of clams, mussels, shrimp, crab, lobster, and chicken. Couldn't find any sausage. But the rice was well seasoned and the whole thing was darn tasty and plentiful. We even had leftovers to take home. Everyone else enjoyed the entrees. The cocktails were unfortunately terrible and overpriced. We were so stuffed we had no room for desserts. But the place was charming and I would go back just for the paella itself.

Niqua L.

Yelp
This establishment is very popular and has been for years. They give big portion sizes and every combination of seafood you could think of. Sadly some of the food is BLAND like the yellow rice and my Alfredo pasta dish. I did enjoy my huge clam chowder soup, that w the complimentary bread is enough to be full off of.

Shardai G.

Yelp
The food was plentiful and good flavor, however, some of the dishes weren't made as described. I really liked the experience as it was lively, bustling, and fun. The service was pretty good, and we enjoyed our food. They give you complimentary cornbread and bread with cheese, and veggies.

Agie R.

Yelp
Excellent!!!!!! Arrived at 7:30 was worried I didn't make reservations, celebrating my daughter's Birthday!!! And to my surprise there was no wait time they seated us right away, the waiter was super nice and very attentive. The restaurant was pretty full lots of birthdays being celebrated! The Food was great, the drinks were wonderful, their portions are very big, you can share or you can take a huge doggie bag home. Very tasty, cooked to perfection, the menu has something for everyone's palette, it's not only seafood, they have pasta, chicken, steaks, soups, salad, vegetables and amazing desserts. Definitely will be returning. Family oriented, great for gatherings or just hanging out with friends. Highly recommended.

Daniel S.

Yelp
As said by my family this place should be called SCAMmys not Sammy's. Now let's begin ... We came here to celebrate my uncles 89th birthday ! Excited to spend time with the family and celebrate the occasion. Decor and ambiance alone this place is extremely outdated. Props and items are super old and dusty. That's a strike. The prices are EXTREMELY high for bland , tasteless and frozen food. - undercooked fish - dry ribs - French Onion Soup taste like mop water - corn that definitely has something wrong with it - overcooked cheeseburger Service is absolutely atrocious. There's no reason I should wait 45 minutes for a water refill after asking twice. They couldn't give us sautéed onions with a steak. And gave us salad dressings in cups served out of a pot. Let's continue... Other servers had to step in to help or other servers refused to help because we were not their assigned table. I think the only redeeming quality this establishment has is the warm Sesame seeded roll and cornbread they gave us at the very beginning Avoid this place

Alisha L.

Yelp
Very good! Everything was so fresh with such a short wait time. The seating was elbow to elbow but we had large party but it worked out to be an intimate set up

Siaris D.

Yelp
There was a ROACH as my dinner guest. My table of 3 became a table of 4. I didn't make a scene because I didn't want to embarrass myself but should've. They had the audacity to slightly "discount" my meal. The total was $250 and in the end came out to $100. I feel like it should have been free because I didn't ask for the $100 roach special. Unfortunately killing roaches wasn't in my night plans so he ran off to multiply and make other friends. Will not be returning

Karen G.

Yelp
The feast that I normally order seemed very salty. Today is our wedding anniversary of 9 years. Lately after the Pandamnit everything has seemed different as far as the food is concerned. The service was great as usual. There weren't many people there most likely because it was early in the day. The place is still beautiful but also decorated for Easter. We got lays because we are celebrating our life together. It's a bright sunny day.

Vickram S.

Yelp
It's always a great place to eat, and food tasty and staff is very attentive to your needs, and great ambiance that makes you feel comfortable. ( Sammy's need to offer free refills on soda since it's fountain soda, and most chain restaurants offer this. )

Lissandra M.

Yelp
Our recent visit to the restaurant was very disappointing. It took at least 25 minutes to get a waiter to take our drink orders, even though we asked three different staff members for help. This was surprising since the restaurant wasn't busy. The food quality was terrible. Two of us ordered the Lobster Bisque, which was as thick as nacho cheese sauce and extremely salty. We couldn't finish it and had to complain to the waiter. Also the party had ordered: Fried Shrimp and Fish yet the meals did not taste well either. It was a bit disappointing. The menu prices were shockingly high, ranging from $40 to $200 per dish, with an extra $5 charge for sharing. The high prices did not match the poor quality of the food and service. We will not be returning to this restaurant.

Emily P.

Yelp
I stopped in today with a couple of friends for lunch. They have a valet parking lot across the street, and the guys who took care of the car were super nice and welcoming. We were seated by the hostess right away. The restaurant doesn't look that big from the outside, but is actually really huge. We walked quite a bit before we got to our table. We were handed gigantic menus, but stuck around the middle of the first page were the seafood combos were. The prices here are proportionate to the portion sizes. It was $30 for fish and chips, but the plate was pretty big and filled entirely. Not to mention they also give you baked bread, cornbread, salad, and rice on the sides for free. The fish and chips had absolutely no seasoning. They give you lemons on the side to add as desired, but they also need to start giving out salt and pepper as well. It was so bland but I was hungry so I ate as much as I could. The service was just okay. Our waiter was nice, but disappeared at times and we had to ask him more than once for certain things. I'm kind of bummed that a seafood restaurant could get a basic, classic dish like fish and chips wrong. It seems like Sammy's has been around for awhile since I've heard the name quite a few times in my life. I'm just not sure how they've survived this long with today's mediocrity. TLDR: skip!

Yelp
I took my family to eat here for lunch. The ambiance was nice, and we were promptly seated. A plate of bread, butter, and cold vegetables over ice was served to us. The bread was good, but the vegetables were not. Veggies over ice just didn't look appealing at all. I ordered the shrimp florentine with a salad and baked potato. My boyfriend ordered steak with onions which came with rice and tostones (fried green plantains). For the kids, we ordered Mac and cheese, chicken tenders with fries, and spaghetti. A plate or rice and corn on the cob was also brought to us. When the food arrived it looked promising, the portions were big. My boyfriend didn't like his food at all. He said the steak tasted basic and did not have much flavor. The tostones did not taste freshly fried and the rice was lacking flavor. He ended up leaving most of it on his plate. My shrimp Florentino was decent. The presentation was nice, but the flavor was just ok. The salad was fresh, but I can't comment on my baked potato because it was never brought to the table. The kids enjoyed the chicken tenders and fries because they were crispy and fried well. However, they complained about the Mac and cheese tasting watery and the spaghetti tasting bland. We also ordered two frozen margaritas which were terrible. The food was way too over priced to be lacking in quality. Overall, we would not return and don't recommend unless you're ok with eating food lacking in flavor.

Yelp
II've been calling here for a while, they have a great bread and cold antipasto before the meal. Large variety of deliciouse seafood dishes. Great drinks. Staff is very on point, knows exactly what's on my menu. Place is very clean and quiet, able to have a conversation.

Yelp
Sammy's never disappoints in flavor , value or service. Had lunch with my son for his birthday. Nobody was able to finish the huge portions. I split the fried jumbo plater with my wife and took home plenty. Free parking, great food.

Yelp
I been going to Sammy's for years, usually monthly.Today I was there as It was my Mother's day gift from my husband. It was 12:30pm..The food was awful. The bread was like a solid piece of rock. The fried shrimp wasn't even warm. The salad was terrible.I was extremely unhappy and left hungry. As a customer for so many years this makes me sad.I don't think I will return..

Yelp
Came to visit tonight with my family (haven't been to city island in 5 years). I'm sure they mean well but the system of taking names without any true sense of how long it will take to be seated was frustrating. None the less we eventually sat down after much nagging. The server was overwhelmed with the number of tables he had to service which is not his fault. As far as the food, my parents ordered piña colada's which were heavy on alcohol (no complaints) and my sister ordered a margarita (also good). I had tea. Our food photos are attached. I mostly ate the fried chicken (I removed most of the breading) and side salad which was good. Not salty. The rest of the table ate the seafood and had no complaints. The ribs were very tender/falling off the bone according to my dad. My mother felt the ratio of shrimp was lacking in the medley but still enjoyed her meal.

Yelp
Third times a charm; stopped in with a party of 4 around 11pm last night and was able to be seated. It was a moderate crowd, but the dining area was closing soon so we ordered quickly. The food was good and so were the drinks. The table was very wobbly where we sat. The restrooms were clean and the service was good. It's great to update a review from a negative experience to a positive one.

Yelp
Been here several times actually but came again for fathers day and we never leave this place dissatisfied with the foot. For 6 people we ordered two feasts and 3 clam chowders and were beyond full. The food here is phenomenal, the seafood is always cooked to perfection and the drinks are very strong. I haven't been here since before covid but it seems like the prices have gone up quite a bit but due to inflation you can't really blame them. Nonetheless this restaurant is great for large groups and don't expect to leave here without a to go bag.

Yelp
It's really impossible to leave hungry. If you do, it's really your own fault. When we got there, there was a really long line outside and the area was extremely busy. We almost left to go somewhere else but decided to get on line. The line actually went pretty fast considering how many people were waiting to get inside. Inside, we sat upstairs in a nice corner booth. The tables weren't seated on top of each other and I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. I was afraid inside would be really busy and hectic due to the line but this wasn't the case at all. Now let's talk food. The prices aren't cheap but it's seafood so it makes sense. The portions are ridiculous. First off, they bring over a bread board with cheese and veggies so you can snack while you wait. Then they brought over salads. When the meals came, there was so much food! The main entree was massive plus they bring you fries or a baked potato and a tray of rice and corn on the cob for the table. I couldn't eat everything. How could you not leave with a to go bag? The food was soooo good and our server was great! We had a really nice time here and a very pleasant experience.

Yelp
This place was an awesome find. Saw it on an episode of Real Housewives of Atlanta and thought why not?? No I dont eat fish, or seafood but my husband will have some every once in awhile since he tend to be vegetarian/vegan. To my surprise I saw the menu offers way more then crustaceans and fish. The portions are HUGE! I enjoyed the chicken parmigiana. If you love garlic you'll love this dish . Perfectly crunchy and tangy with the pasta. My better half enjoyed a bowl of Clam chowder that made me think twice about the idea of seafood soup. It was so creamy and delicious. He also enjoyed a shrimp cocktail..Those bad boys were huge! (Didnt try it, baby steps people) Margarita was fabulous. All in all I definitely recommend. They do family sized meals to share but their portions are shareable anyway.
