Ordered the mix meat combo over rice. The quality of the food was average but the amount was good. It was the first time I tried Sammy’s. The rice was delicious and the taste of lamb was good. The lamb surely tasted better than the chicken. I went for late lunch so the quality of the meat wasn’t very fresh in my opinion. It is good value for money. Would love to try other branches to find out how they are, overall It was good.

Google
Sammy's Halal is probably one of the best halal food stalls in town. I usually get the combo platter with green, red and white sauce and green beans. The rice is quite good. The meat is quite tender and sweet. Everyone I've introduced this place to has become a big fan. It's no surprise they won the Vendy award.

Google
Came here to quickly grab a meal. Ordered combo over rice. Quick Service: Meal was prepared in less than two minutes. Taste: nothing extraordinary just the normal taste you would expect from any other cart!

I ordered a food from this place using their online website and paid $18. Still not getting my food till now!!!!! They got my money with no food yet!!!! This is not acceptable at all…

Google
Loved this halal cart. Mildly spicy. I had lamb chicken mix over salad and chick peas on top of it. Chick peas over this was first time for me. He gave me 2 free drinks 😁

Google
Solid halal food and the pitas were pretty fresh as well. No complaints and I would eat here again honestly.

Google
Ate at the 39th St location a block from Bryant Park yesterday, which I originally located on Google Maps. Today, I can't find it to save me. Anyway, I've never eaten at a halal joint before. The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful for a very reasonable price. I had the shawarma beef and lamb platter that was deliciously spiced up for me on request. Wife had a chicken platter. Vegetables were fresh and nice. Rice was super long grain and also really good. There was plenty of meat in both platers. I'd eat there again in a second. Was around $20 for both generous platters and a couple drinks. No wait, and the gentleman that put this all together for us was super nice. Recommended.

Google
If you are ever around west 4th st & 6 ave around 2:30am there is not much left open in regards to getting something to eat however, Sammy's Halal is a pretty good option if you want a really good lamb gyro.

Yelp
Absolutely loved my experience at Sammy's Halal Food! The food was incredibly flavorful, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. The chicken over rice was tender and juicy, and the white sauce and hot sauce combo took it to the next level. The portions were generous, and the service was fast and friendly. You can really tell they put care into their food. Definitely one of the best halal spots I've tried--highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious, satisfying food!

Yelp
Should've just tried the top halal cart in New York because when I came to this place, I put so much trust in it. Granted, he loaded up the box for the combo platter. When we took a few bites, there was something that was off so we did not try to even finish it. Just wait in line for the one in time square or maybe cause it wasn't in time square? Not sure.

Yelp
Enjoyed this place after a late night out and it was delicious and affordable. The service is great too!

Yelp
Typical halal. Nothing special here. Maybe if they had a better salad with lamb over rice they would gain a star. Food is also not fresh cooked on the grill to get that flavor that does not taste like the meat was steamed. Cart is advertised with winning a Vendi award and I thought I was making the right decision, but I was wrong again.

Yelp
Decent food but extremely rude cook. Looks like the owner changed -- the person last summer was super nice and put the sauce on the side as requested. The food isn't as good as before. Also this guy started banging his spatula on the window (gross) and yelling at me because I tried to take a picture of the title of the truck to send to my friends (I was going to tell them to come here but nevermind). And he refused to put the sauce on the side so i just had to opt for no sauce. Go somewhere else -- food's about the same as any other halal food truck.

Yelp
Loved the chicken over rice. I had this second time now, much better than halal cart. I loved it and how much with care made our boxes.

Yelp
Got served chicken rice with nothing but lettuce that was pink. Also there was a lot of rice and not a lot of meat compared to before

Yelp
Sammy's Halal is probably one of the best halal carts in the city. I usually get the combo platter with green, red, and white sauce and chickpeas. The rice is pretty flavorful. The meat is pretty tender and juicy. Everyone I've recommended this spot has become a big fan. It's not surprising that they won a Vendy award.

Yelp
Sammy's halal food is located in a prime location in downtown manhattan. For only $5 you can get a LARGE plate of food and go stroll into WSP to enjoy. A little embarassing that I went four years of living in new york without having tried halal, but my first experience was at Sammy's and it was pretty damn good and I now understand the hype. We ordered chicken over rice and it did not disappoint. All the sauces were perfect flavors and didn't overpower the main star of the show: the chicken and rice. Overall, a solid and affordable 10/10 experience.

Yelp
Sammy lied. On Uber eats there was a promotion to buy one get one free, however much to my chagrin, once the order was placed it charged full price, very sad. Food is great but so filling. I'm about to burst
google avatar

Nancy H.

Yelp
I love Sammy's. The most moist and juiciest chicken ever and perfect rice. They really spice out and marinate the chicken compared to The Halal Guys. They offer white, red, green, and bbq sauce. Lettuce comes with the order. I wish they offered pita. It's still $6 for a box of chicken and rice but I feel like they could give you more chicken and rice and then top it off with salad. I always get the red and white sauce. Perfectly spicy with kick and cooled off with the creamy and garlicky white sauce. They'll try to get you by asking if you want any drink with your order, but you might need one if you get it with the red sauce.

Yelp
HELP! Please everyone! Sammy's is our absolute favorite place in the city... we truly love it and eat here at least twice a week but we went back tonight and the Sammy's cart is gone from this address. Please help us locate Sammy's cart and Sammy if you see this, send us the new address!!! Best halal food in the city... dare I say the world. Help us find Sammy's again!

Witold Z.

Yelp
So so not what I expected, had better it's not from a cob it's frozen lamb so that's why so so
google avatar

Yelp
Wasn't really a fan, the meat tasted good but the rice had a very distinct flavor to it that I am not used to and I didnt like it. I'm sure to others it probably tastes fine but I just couldn't get on board. And not sure if it was the rice or the meat but if I had to take a guess I'd say it was the rice that was also extremelyyyyyyy oily, like I'm talking tons of oily residue in the container

Yelp
DISCLAIMER: All these reviews are just notes to my future self. In case you haven't already noticed, this dude is rockin' a cart in the location on yelp. I stopped by to grab a chicken sammy for $5 and holy crap it was delicious and perfect. Chicken was super flavorful and textured, ingredients were fresh, and he took a card. If you're ever in the area and need a quick bite, there should really be no other option
google avatar

Miranda C.

Yelp
Excellent halal. Some of the best chicken over rice I've ever had, and amazing lamb gyro. Way better than the reigning franchised halal place that shall remain unnamed
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
I was in the area and had to try Sammy's. They won the Vendy's award after all. I got the Chicken and Rice and to my surprise they only serve brown rice. That's kind of weird, since this would be the first time I had brown rice at a Halal Cart, but luckily I actually like and prefer brown rice. The service was very friendly and light banter thrown in and was even offered some chickpeas which I partook in. The Chicken and Rice plate which I added white sauce and a small amount of hot sauce was pretty delicious. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The brown rice was actually very soft also and the hot sauce was not too hot. The chickpeas made the classic Chicken & Rice unique and I really like it. I'd need to ask for chickpeas from every Halal Cart from now on.

Yelp
I love this place! There are other halal places in nyc thst don't taste nearly as good and flavorful. The chicken is SO good and it's packed with tons of food!

Yelp
After an aborted attempt to eat a falafel at Taim[1], I found myself walking along 6th Avenue towards the W 4th subway stop, on a muggy summer evening, hungry. VERY hungry. As I get close to my destination, I am attracted by the wonderful smells coming out of this food cart. Yes: wonderful smells! This cart, whose full name should be Sammay's Halal Food, apparently has won several street food awards (or at least this is what the articles glued on the side of the truck claim). Being a Sammay's virgin, I decided to play safe and ordered a gyro platter. It was nothing short of excellent: the meat (quite a lot of it) was super-tender, juicy, and full of flavor; served over a bed of rice that was nicely cooked, with the grains still separate and of the right consistency. The white sauce was creamy and tasty, and the hot sauce was HOT, not some watered down bidet water for pussies. Overall the serving ($5) was very generous. One thing I would have liked is more greens, but I guess that if you want a salad perhaps a gyro platter from a street cart shouldn't be your first choice[2]. Also, a couple of pieces of pita would have been nice. A winner. Now I want to try their lamb. And their chapli kebab. ----------------------------------------------------------------- [1] At 8 pm on a Wednesday there was a line of about 30 people... [2] Although they do serve a veggie platter.

Yelp
Got the chicken over rice and I was amazed! The service was great and I was able to share my serving with a friend. Amazing place
google avatar

Pat L.

Yelp
Sammy's serves a lamb sandwich the size of your head for $3. And they'll add delicious chickpeas. And their white/hot sauce has great flavor. And they won the Vendy's. This place is heaven, pure heaven, for any streetfood lover.
google avatar

Yelp
Best halal cart in the city. When I'm back in the city, this is as much of a comfort food as bubbie's mazo soup. You will always be greeted with a smile and very fast service at Sammy's cart. The chicken over rice with the white sauce is my favorite but definitely try something different once in a while because you might be surprised.
google avatar

Yelp
My coworker swore that Sammy's was way better than Halal Guys. Two years later, I finally got around to trying it. In my opinion, it is not better or worse. I think it would be unfair to compare since the tastes are different, but I can see why he prefers this cart. Sammy's has a more distinct Indian flavor to it in the rice. My boyfriend is also a huge fan of Sammy's and likes it better than Halal Guys. He usually buys from the original in Jackson Heights, but he says both carts are relatively the same. I got a combo for $7 and a lamb for $6. I couldn't really taste the green sauce very much. I think it's a cilantro base? The white sauce kind of overwhelms it, but it does add a nice heat to it. The flavor isn't as strong in the lamb and chicken and has way too many onions, but I do like the rice a lot better. If I could combine the rice here and the meat from Halal Guys, it would be perfect for me.
google avatar

Henry T.

Yelp
Really wasn't a big fan of Sammy's because of my overall bad experience trying this cart for the first time. I decided to give this cart a try after hearing how great it was and how it even won a Vendy award 11 years ago. I settled for the chicken and lamb over rice with white and green sauces drizzled on top. Overall, the portion size was a bit small for me and one thing that they didn't skimp out on was the portion size of the lettuce and tomatoes. The chicken, the lamb and the rice was tasteless and bland. The sauces didn't really help. I was hoping to have a better experience than what I had today given the hype surrounding this cart. Would I be back and would I recommend this place to others? No.

Connor E.

Yelp
Sammy's is the king of 6th ave. Chicken over rice, white sauce hot sauce. That's all y'all need to know

Arpana P.

Yelp
Stopped by for a late night falafel sandwich and it was delicious - the falafel was chopped up and sautéed with onions so it was really evenly distributed among each bite. True game changer and I wish more halal carts would do that! Definitely stands out and I'll be back!
google avatar

Nelly A.

Yelp
Husband spotted this place right across from Papaya Dog and decided to grab a gyro. Slightly cheaper than other stands we've gone to. Food was ready fast and the order was actually correct, unlike our experience with a different stand. Overall okay quality. If you're looking for a gyro with a better flavor you are better off going to a Miami Subs or other similar establishment. Otherwise this does the job for walking around NY and looking for a quick bite.

Sahil P.

Yelp
Was looking for a late night meal and Sammy's did not disappoint! The owner was extremely friendly. Tried the chicken over rice and it was so good I had to go back the next day. Definitely try it out if you're around the area.

Yelp
Good food horrible service no good pre or post covid. This place had such high hopes but non the less, failed in terms of good halal food. Only lettuce and barely vegis or meats
google avatar

Ismael R.

Yelp
Quality has gone far too low.. I was served raw cold chicken, and cold rise.. I had to throw away the whole plate.
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
This is a food truck serving a much better halal lamb than most sit-down restaurants, and for less money. Grilled flavors abound in the savory lamb. Honestly, I'm not certain how they achieve this level of richness with the rice - it doesn't seem to be suffused in oil or butter. The rice was somehow savory and "creamy" in a way that brought the complex-but-not-overpowering spices out in a mellow whirlwind for the nose. The white sauce and hot sauce bring the whole thing together beautifully. Do that, even if you don't do hot sauce on things. She fears heat in the way only a Minnesota girl can and she still appreciated what the hot sauce does here. Ask for extra white sauce. It's not the watery, flavorless stuff. Hassan is a cool guy, and he'll be totally gracious about the sauce even if you say "keep going" twice.
google avatar

Dang N.

Yelp
I could have been really hungry at 0130 in the morning but this dude's rice and meat dish (I ordered the mix) is really solid. I also asked for extra white sauce and he poured it on! $7 for the dish also! Solid.
google avatar

Razi A.

Yelp
Delicious mixed combo. Channa chick peas hit the spot on a cold day. Chicken is tender and juicy. Lamb is in nice cubes. Green sauce is mint chutney and is a nice twist for cart food. Very nice man running the cart as well. He gave us some free chick peas. This place definitely lives up to its name and is better than halal g*ys lately. Cumin rice, green sauce, it's the little touches.

Yelp
I was hanging out in the West Village when my friend said she wanted to halal food, naturally we went to Sammy's because of all the good things we've heard about them, and especially because they also won the VENDY AWARD! I've even read a few reviews that this place top halal guys so of course I had to give it a try! I ordered the lamb over rice and my friend got the chicken over rice. I ate mine too quickly so I didn't get a chance to take the lamb over rice picture but a attached one of the chicken over rice! LOL My first impression is that they skimp out on the quantity, my portion was extremely light. I guess I'm just used to halal carts stuffing my my Styrofoam container with tons of food. As for the actual food itself, I thought it was just all right, nothing special that especially stood out for me. I was only happy over the fact that the lamb was not dry, unlike that of other carts that I've tried before. IDK if it was just me but the food tasted way saltier than other halal carts that I've eaten before. I was dying for water halfway through the portion :/ and no water was given for free with your purchase. In conclusion, I wish I could have liked this place more, but it turned out to be a disappointing first try to me. I Guess my go-to halal cart will still be the one in Queens near my house :D
google avatar

Queen H.

Yelp
Spice level is excellent but it's soooo little meat compared to just all rice and lettuce which is annoying
google avatar

Maddy H.

Yelp
Tonight I order dinner from Sammy's using Uber Eats. I was a little nervous about it because I have never tried Middle Eastern food before and I don't often eat lamb. I decided to get the combo with both sauces and it was amazing! When the food got here it was still warm like it has just came off the grill. Each piece of meet was tender and juicy! The sauces were so spicy that my mouth was on fire but I just couldn't stop eating it, it was good. If you are ever nearby go get you some, you won't regret it!
google avatar

Anderson C.

Yelp
This is the same Sammy's Halal as the one in Queens. Vendy awards rarely lie and they certainly do not lie on Sammy's. I'm known by certain circles as a Halal fiend maybe even more so than a bagel and apple pie fanatic. Sike. Bagels first Maaaaaaaan. The service has always been friend. The price is good. You can refer to my photo for complete listing. The quality is AMAZING. Normally, I just order the chicken over rice. Okay, I order 2 orders of chicken over rice. I can eat OKAY? Sometimes I order the lamb over rice. My stomach is pretty happy after that. People want to be a fan of the Halal Guys all they want. I've stopped eating Halal Guys as I use to rave about them. I still do if I'm desperate for that late night Halal but definitely NOT in the day time. Sammy's is where it's at y'all. SUPER Fan.
google avatar

Kevin L.

Yelp
Does it amaze anyone else that $5 purchases enough food for two solid meals? Is it any less amazing that the "chicken on rice" is not only plentiful, but bizarrely moist and tender, too? Highly recommended with both white -and- hot sauce. Although this secret green sauce definitely has me curious. Fortunately, this is an easy five minute walk from my place and I'm looking forward to trying out some of their other offerings, with the gyro high on my list of priorities. Too bad it's not parked right outside...

Yelp
Similarly to fellow vendy award winning Queens Halal cart King of Falafel (http://www.yelp.com/biz/king-of-falafel-and-shawarma-new-york), Sammy's pseudo recent expansion to Manhattan can be attributed to their cult like success in Jackson Heights. This cart is right up there with some of the better Halal in the city, but like a typical sequel doesn't quite have the punch of the original version. That's not to say it's not delicious. $5-6 gets one the same portion of chicken + lamb over rice and salad and with one drink. While it may not be as hearty as 53rd & 6th, the lamb is seasoned in a way where it blends with the white sauce almost perfectly. On top of that, the use of basmati rice is a welcome treat over the typically bland yellow rice that many Halal carts all too often. I'm glad to see Sammy's didn't adjust the prices for the pricey West Village area and in doing so has enabled this cart to be in the cheap lunch discussion. And since this area is a prime nightlife location, Sammy's doubles up as not only a lunch spot, but a perfect drunken food spot as well. My other hope is that this cart doesn't keep folks from trying the original Sammy's in Queens. It's all fine and dandy to capitalize on the Manhattan bucks, the mentality of going out of one's way for good food as opposed to have a lesser version come to them is still applicable.
google avatar

Ron C.

Yelp
I heart this place! This seems to be the only street meat cart in the area. This place never lets me down. The prices are cheaper than the rest and the quality is really good. $3 for a sandwich and $5 for the rice platter. I suggest getting the Lamb & Rice with Chickpeas. The chickpeas are not on the menu, but they do have it on hand. Really makes the food blend together.
google avatar

Kenny C.

Yelp
Service: Friendly! Decor: Its a cart, its shiny and metallic Food: 4.5/5 - Some of the best tasting halal food i've had - We asked for chickpeas like other yelpers recommended but I guess he forgot/didn't hear and I didn't notice till the entire plate was in my stomach - Meat:Rice ratio is good, some places just give you too much rice. Wish the portion size was larger though - They have green sauce - cilantro, tangy, delicious!! - Red sauce is not too hot, ask for extra if you like spicy! Ill be back!

Natalia O.

Yelp
Best halal food I've ever had! I order through DoorDash and it's superb every time. Very flavorful, meat is juicy/tender, and sauces are bomb
google avatar

Adam B.

Yelp
I kinda like this cart better than the more famous halal cart in midtown, mainly because of the cilantro-heavy green sauce. Chicken: Firm and nicely spiced. Even better when slathered with the creamy white sauce. Lamb: Cut into small cubes that ended up being seared all around for a very crunchy gyro meat experience. A perfect texture contrast to the fluffy rice. The hot sauce is a must to counter the fatty richness. Rice: So fluffy and without any grains sticking together. Perhaps the lightest rice I've ever had from a food cart. There is no need for a soggy pita when you have this. Salad: Very forgettable. Lots of iceberg lettuce squares with a few cabbage shreds. I never waste stomach space on this.

Yelp
just found a huge ass green bug in my chicken over rice, looks like salad i should of take a pic, but this shit was scary. i'm scary know to think what would happen if i wouldn't see it....
google avatar

Gersey C.

Yelp
In my search for the best halal street meat in manhattan, me and the lady stopped by this Vendy award winner. In comparison to the famous Halal Guys (of "we are different" fame) the lamb chunks are larger but less tasty. The rice is biryani-like, which is good, but the halal guys saffron rice is better. N' the chicken is curry flavored. Great if that's what you're looking for, but I prefer the halal chicken for food truck authentic styles. Sammy's also had a green chutney sauce that was minty/spicy and I thought added nice complexity. But! The white sauce is much weaker in flavor than the halal guys and the white sauce seemed dairy based instead of oil based, like them halal guys. All in all, an excellent Indian/Pakistani-style food truck, probably the best curry street meat in Manhattan, but my bias is for the carts near 53rd n' 6th.

Mima H.

Yelp
This place is gross. Lol I only came here because I thought it was the same halal truck from queens but it most definitely is not.
google avatar

Rahul S.

Yelp
I have eaten here countless times, and I love everything on the menu. The portion sizes are great for the price, and the food is incredibly consistent. I strongly recommend the lamb over rice, absolutely lip-smacking for 6$! They have a fresh host of veggies, the sauces aren't watered down, and the rice isn't too spicy and always perfectly cooked. Adnan and Naveed man the cart in the afternoon, and Agha in the evening. They are the warmest, friendliest guys, and always go out of their way to customize your meal to your satisfaction. I prefer Sammy's over Halal guys any day of the week, best halal cart in this entire area.
google avatar

Krishna K.

Yelp
Love this place.. was our go-to late night fix while at NYU. Chicken over rice is pretty good, one of the better places around the village. Would definitely recommend it.

Michael-Scott G.

Yelp
Best. Halal. Ever. Only adding words to this so Yelp posts it.
