Sammy's Mexican Grill

The food here is really good! I always get the Sammy's Burrito with cheese and two cheese enchiladas à la carte. It's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth it. This is the closest you'll get to authentic Mexican food in Catalina.

Super fun, first time experience... Smaller than I anticipated, but quite accommodating. Bette the owner was super friendly... I felt like I had walked in to a family's kitchen. The food was good, not like I had everything on the menu, but the Sammys cheeseburger was good!

The menu is diverse. There are the typical Mexican offerings including menudo. I had the Carne Asada salad which really felt like a deconstructed asada tostada including beans pico de gallo and if you want, guacamole and sour cream. The meat is well seasoned, cooked well and good quality - not a lot of grizzle. They also have a more American fare their burgers are big and well-seaeoned. But was well toasted with an abundance of sesame seeds. Get the curly fries. The prices are reasonable and the service is friendly. It's a great place to bring the family So let's address the elephant in the room. This place is all in all in on one particular president. The decor is decidedly political and the owners are passionate about it. If you're not one to let the theme bother you, then you will have a good meal at a reasonable price.

I used the drive thru and when I was reading the menu I noticed that the prices of the items were barely visible as someone had tampered with them (picture attached). I ordered one Carme asada quesadilla and one bean and cheese tostada. The quesadilla comes with sour cream and pico de gallo on the side I was very pleased after eating it. The service was friendly and professional. I also really like that they have outdoor siting. I will highly recommend.

Now Open!!!! I'm not sure my Google Maps shows that this restaurant is still closed. Great authentic Mexican food, walk up counter with fast friendly service and a casual comfortable atmosphere.

Went there while on vacation was not impressed definitely have had better out of a food truck. Was getting smirks from what seemed to be management because I was wearing a Mexican flag shirt in a "Mexican food restaurant " felt uncomfortable for sure.

Filling meal. Counter ordering. No beer etc. Like their patriotic bent😃 Colorado sauce needed to be up to temp... Chimi was tasty. Few blips with prep/cooks but tried to make it right👍

We heard of this establishment through friends. You're traveling from Glendale and stop for the night in Casa Grande. Since we had some extra time on her hands we decided to take a drive to Sammy's Mexican Grill in Catalina, outskirts of Tucson. We drove at night so it was kind of hard to find, even with our GPS. The restaurant had a real nice authentic Mexican look on the outside. We order Sammy's famous burrito and Georgie's double wrapped burrito. It was massive! They had to put them in two(2) to-go trays. The burritos are delicious. The salsa was not hot, so anyone that can't handle the heat would love it. I understand they were working at night, but the drive-thru worker could have been a little more courteous. Other than a few minor hiccups, I would give Sammy's Mexican Grill another return trip.

Everything is great! Burgers to ice cream to service and has a great patio. Highly recommend!

Not authentic Mexican food. Rice was flavorless, just colored yellow. Beans taste like from a can. It's conveyer line food, made in quantity no quality. I took food to go, restaurant itself was plain and uninviting. Too much political ads, feels to be more of a political rallying joint than a quaint restaurant.

How can a Mexican restaurant ruin guacamole... don't waste your money, just go to Taco Bell.

Chorizo, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito! Need I say more. Any burrito can be made enchilada style. Try it and thank me later. Their generous portions and quality ingredients keep me coming back. The owners are very friendly and usually one of them is always there running it.

Delicious! We just had the Maga burger and totally worth it!! Fresh and tasty. Double patty, spring mix, cheese, jalapeños, and delicious bacon bits. The fries are delicious also.

We stopped here from a softball tournament in Las Cruces. I don't recommend. Being from AZ, we love trying local spots but I've had better. The beans were okay, not a lot of flavor. The chips were also stale, like they had been sitting there. I had the Carne Asada nachos and the chips being stale brought it down. The carne asada wasn't bad but for nachos, the chips have to be crunchy. Ambiance was okay. We were in our softball gear so it worked. All in all I wouldn't go back.

Hostess was very pleasant and helpful food was plentiful and delicious. Sammy's Burrito, Fish taco grilled and Shrimp combination were our choices. I had traveled from Mississippi to visit family in Tucson and had to visit after seeing the Democrat hate directed at Sammy for his Trump endorsement. I was not disappointed at anything about Sammy's. One of his 3 sons delivered our food with a smile and pleasant response when I asked if he was Sammy's son. "One of three he replied." I should be back in February and intend to visit again. Hopefully, Sammy will be there the next time. I would like to meet this champion of freedom and liberty.

Love this place. One of my favorite to eat while in Tucson. Check them out. You will enjoy every last bite!

Claim to be Mexican grill, this was the most whitewashed Mexican food ever! Their service was ok, some of our darker skin complexion party were not treated as caring as the counterpart. The place was a hard core copy of a wanna be Mexican restaurant. You're better off going to a Guadalajara Original Grill! That's the real spot, we left to try that spot because we could not bear the bland taste!

The menu at Sammy's Mexican Grill is so HUGE it TRUMPS other fast food restaurants...From Pancakes to Tortas & Burgers featuring a 2 pound burrito called "GEORGIE'S" a double-wrapped burrito with beef or chicken, rice, beans, cabbage, guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo...WOW! they MAKE authentic Mexican style fast food in AMERICA with GREAT flavor and awesome service...I'll definitely be back AGAIN!

Had the MAGA Burger and the Sammy's Burrito. Both were on point and hit the spot! Food was great and service was quick and professional! The place was very clean, straight MAGA every where, and not a liberal in sight lol. Definitely going back!

Tried to eat here w/ wife and kids, my little one spots a mini roach, so we got up immediately. Lots of flies in restaurant too. Food smelled good, but my wife freaked out.

Excellent authentic Mexican food! This is a great spot breakfast, lunch, or dinner if you ever find yourself in Catalina. Chorizo and eggs were great with some freshly made horchata that really set it off.

The service was friendly and the food was delicious and hot. We had the carnitas combo plate, delicious!

Hmmm First off, breeze past the political signage and pic's; this is a food review. Nothing fancy about the place; clean and quick for a bite to eat. If you're looking for a fancy sit down with your 70 year old high school sweetheart, this ain't the place but if you want something better than that place down the street behind the bank, you've arrived. Salsa's to go could some tweaking, maybe some fresh salsa and some green salsa? I would swear the corn tortillas are homemade (!)

Friendly service. Authentic food. Decent prices. My husband, three year old daughter and I loved our food here. Our bean burritos were perfect! My daughter loved hers so much she ate the entire thing (and had to tell the owner it was so good). It is also nice to support an establishment that values the family and patriotism. Thanks Sammy's!

We ate there for the first time this past weekend and wish we would have tried it years ago. Fish tacos were great and my wife had the nachos with beef, cheese and sour cream. The beef was very nicely seasoned not just blandly cooked like other restaurants. The entire staff was very friendly and the entire establishment was extremely clean and nicely decorated. We ate an early dinner there (3:00pm) and noticed a continuous flow of customers placing orders to include walk-ins and the drive through.

Excellent food made with love and great service! Super fresh ingredients and a varied menu. Can't wait to return on my next business trip.

I'm a big fan of this restaurant and when in Catalina this is my go to eatery. I've had a couple items but stick to the Carne Asada Tacos. My wife and I stopped for breakfast on Saturday morning about 11:00 am. Place was empty. I saw Menudo on the menu board, weekends only, and asked if they were serving it. Polite young man wasn't sure and had check kitchen. This was a big tilt for me, they must not serve much if you have to check on a weekend special item probably from a can so I ordered Carne Asada Tacos. My wife ordered red enchiladas with scrambled eggs. Her dish was not very appetizing. The eggs were hard fried and chopped not scrambled. Red enchiladas had no flavor. Cold wet lettuce really killed it. The tacos were not much better as they tasted like reworked meat and less than fresh veggies. Sorry Sammy's, most likely will not return.

We drive through Catalina frequently and have a list of places we would like to try. Sammy's is a plain & small indoor order at the counter or drive thru eatery we knew we would get to sooner or later based on the high reviews. Well, one day we were driving by and the better half said: "Did you hear about this place? It's a Hispanic (Latino) owned family eatery leftists used yelp to try and destroy because they supported Trump. " WTF. Yep. Look it up, read all the one star reviews. Notice how many are from out of state and just happened to be at this little hole in the wall on the outskirts of Tucson all at the same time. Meanwhile, locals eat here and leave 4 and 5 starts all day long. The family even wrote a book about the experience. That's your ever so ethical left for you. No, I'm not a Trump supporter. I'm one of those scary and dangerous people who get all politicians lie and politics make people stupid and dangerous. History. On to the review. I decided to come here for my birthday meal, simply to support and test their food. We went on a Saturday afternoon. The place had a constant supply of customers. The main menu is extensive, my photo didn't turn out. They also have a second menu on the counter with low carb options. (Down in the right lower corner of the menu in my photos)....Which I didn't see until going up after our meal to thank them for the best carnitas we have found in 10 years and to order freshly made bunuelos to take home. We ordered: Carne Asade Super Nachos, Chili Colorado (hard to find here) Burrito, Carnita Burrito (Best we've had in ten years since moving from California) and 4 packs of cinnamon sugar bunuelos. We spent $36 on everything, took half home. They offer a 3.75% discount for cash transactions. The place was clean, service was fast, food was fresh and delicious. The nachos had a generous serving of guacamole and sour cream. The burritos were shoved full, everything was great. No complaints. It is small for gatherings, but that didn't stop a huge family in the back. One of the best things was seeing an older woman with her family of 12...with her open carry on her hip to protect those around her. Cherry on top experience. We will be back. Sat March 6th, 2021..drove all the way back up here for more Carnitas. We would usually venture out on meats, but we wanted to test the Chili Colorado (beef) & Carnitas (pork) again. Better half stuck with the Carnita Burrito w beans & rice. Still swears it is the best Carnita we've had in 10 years. I chose the Chili Colorado Taco Salad. It was shoved full of Chili Colorado plus a generous portion of sour cream & guacamole. We noticed a sign out front for $1.50 Carne Asada (beef) tacos so we added 3 to the order. WELL WORTH IT. Chips & salsa are $4.50. For that you can get full on 3 to 4 tacos. All in all we spent $32 & we took half the salad & most of the burrito home. I will add photos when they show up flipped. Not sure why the techno difficulty. We will be back!

Finally got a chance to stop by SAMMY's for a few carne asada tacos and chips and salsa. Worth it!!! Homage salsa and fresh warm chips to start and the carne asada was tender and flavorful. The homemade salsa was great. Well Done Sammy!!!

Food and Service was great! I asked where to get the best burger in the area and a friend recommended "Sammy's Mexican Grill". We had been there before for mexican food and it was great - but the burger - was DELICIOUS!! Highly recommend Sammy's for a great - reasonable cost meal. Try it!!!

Stopped by yesterday and the food was INCREDIBLE!!! The service was great and I LOVE the decor!! We drove all the way from Phoenix to check out Sammy's and LOVED it!

Had the beef mini chimichangas. They were delicious. Reheated them the next day in my air fryer and they tasted just as good as the day before

Small family owned business. Clean, employees are wearing masks and there is hand sanitizer available for use. The food is quick to come out of the kitchen, so there is not much of a wait time. Outside patio area is nice and it is covered for shade. The are open for inside dining and they also have a drive thru. I had the cheese enchilada combo (rice & beans) and the hubby had the deluxe nachos. Gotta say the hubby was not overly impressed as the ground beef in the deluxe nachos contained a lot of grizzle. The cheese enchiladas were good and I really liked the sauce that was used. We've been here before and will be back again.

This is a rare find. Generous portions of delicious, authentic Mexican food. Wide variety of choices and I'm a weight lighter who has a hearty appetite and his generous portions fill me up, which is difficult thing to do.. Sammy and his wife are examples of hardworking business owners who have made their own American dream come true--- by working their tails off. Take out is quick and easy, and we plan to patronize and order a take out tonight. His reputation around here is solid and he is supported by the community. Everyone knows Sammy's is the best!

Sammy's food is always the best. We haven't had anything that we didn't love but the chicken quesadillas are our favorites! Real old-fashioned Coke in a bottle is a bonus. They have outdoor seating and the owners are super nice people.

Sammy's was great. Excellent food, big portions. The employees were lovely. It's a small place. You go on and place your order, have a seat and they bring your food to the table.

I was visiting family in the area and wanted to try something down home and independently owned. What a mistake. Greasy, flavorless and cheap meat full of gristle. The asada taco was so horrendous it made me mad. The guac was watery and beginning to oxidize. My wife's chicken taco was so dry it was inedible. Too many other choices in the area to be this shitty.

Lunched with my sister. She has RVed thru out Mexico during several winters and is Spanish fluent. Her impression of Sammy's food was "very delicious". I would second that. Service was friendly and timely. Folks very pleasant, chatted with Sis in Spanish. We totally enjoyed the experience, and our meals.

We are usually very happy when we have come here in the past,but today's visit rated a 2 . I ordered from the breakfast plates the 2 enchilada s egg special I ordered scrambled eggs on enchiladas but they were yellow yolk white not yellow scrambled .Waitress did say thats how they make there scrambled . The enchiladas had no taste .My husband was disappointed with his carna asda tacos said they were flavorless and not fresh ingredients .We are not sure if we may come back

The food was really good but I couldn't stand the environment. Trump everywhere. It was sickening. But the food was good.
