"An unpretentious shopping mall near Rue Neuve is home to this fashionably stark contemporary restaurant. Chef Harumi has been upholding Japanese authenticity since 1974. His extensive menu features sushi, sashimi and table preparations like sukiyaki. Each dish is a masterclass in the high precision technique and contrasting flavours that embody Japan’s rich culinary traditions." - Michelin Inspector

A very fine dining Japanese restaurant with a touch of innovation. The ingredients are fresh and tasty, and the foie gras with eggplant is surprisingly delicious. In the menu, the egg rolls are quite stunning, i enjoyed it a lot. I have taken the sashimi set for lunch, all sashimis are fresh and tasty. The staff are quite friendly and efficient, and it is a restaurant that is easy to reserve.

Let's split this review in positives en négatives. First the positives. - Service was amazing. Super attentive, polite and friendly!! 5+ stars - Quality of the food was amazing as well, all dishes fresh and prepared as they should be. 5 stars - atmosphere is nice and cosy 4,5/5 The negatives. Nothing extremely bad, but all added up result in my final score. - Wagyu upgrade to the menu was not available (being one of the reasons I visited... But the other meat dish was tasty, so that's fine) - Sashimi plate in the tasting menu was poor. The fish tasted great, but basic selection without anything interesting to discover. Portion was super small. - Wine was served too cold and had to wait on it even though I asked in advance to serve it with the meat dish. - small selection of wines and sakes per glass, making it difficult to have drinks paired with the food. - Wine price quality is bad with high markup. (certainly the wines per glass). None of the wines in this (per glass) list were really great, and all quite expensive. In terms of sake this is better, but you'd have to take 330ml - Overall price quality is also not that good. Comparing it to the other Japanese restaurants in GM in Brussels. But it is easier to get a table because of this...

Still my go to restaurant when I want REALLY GOOD JAPANESE food. Yes the price is on the pricier side (between eur 80-120 per person) But it is totally worth every cent. If you take the menu, even more. I try to come here once or twice a year and I think lovers of good food should too. Always a good experience!

A new discovery in Brussels! Expensive, but worth the experience. We went there on a Saturday, and they informed us that during the weekends, "a la carte" was not possible to order, but their pre-configured menu (82 to 99 €/person). We must say that we never saw any information on this detail while booking online. Quiet atmosphere, lovely decoration, good service, and tasty food.

Google
Delicious food, authentic Japanese cuisine. Service a bit slow and prices are 30% higher than what I would expect in Brussels for such quality restaurant. But overall a great experience.

Google
Gorgeous restaurant with authentic Japanese food. Prices are on the higher end but it was worth every bite. The sashimi was very fresh and the meat options from the mains are tasteful. Very hospitable stuff and hygienic place.

Google
Very friendly, exquisite food. Every detail is right. A real experience. The price level is not for every day, but the quality you get in return makes it worth your while. Tip: try the black soja bean ice cream. Truly a remarkable dicovery! Restaurant will relocate to Louisa area by mid next year, yet the old location will close end of this year.

Delicious. Went here to celebrate my nieces birthday, I myself was not a big fan of Japanese food BUT after eating @Samourai I really have to say that I have to change my opinion. The food here was amazing. All very fresh and cooked to perfection. Balanced and pure flavours. Definitely going back! The 16,5/20 they receive from Gault Millau are really earned & true!

Yelp
This is another Japanese Noodle/Ramen restaurant that offers a good price/quality ratio. The downside is a limited range of different dishes but the menu offers enough combinations to compose ramen that suit your taste. Beware, the place is rather small, even spread on two floors (maximum capacity of 28p) and you have little chance to find a free table if you're with more than four. If you eat on the ground floor you can see the staff cooking. It's always nice to watch how they prepare these bowls of ramen. Important to know: they accept only cash payments. But there is a cash dispenser 30m further in the street (uphill).

Yelp
I travel to Belgium one in a while for work, and Ramen is one of my 4 food groups right next to Burritos. So on my first trip I found this place near my hotel and it was a big deal to me. Until I tried their Tonkotsu Ramen. I was hooked every time I'm in Brussels I have to hit this spot up. They have Ramen Gyoza combo, service is fast and friendly. Many options for your Ramen. You know this place is special when it's been a year since my last time there and they were really glad to see me walk through the door. Love this place, if you in Brussels you have to try this spot.

Yelp
this is not real Japanese ramen at all... even the way to make gyoza is different, the source is different too... more south Asian type so called Japanese ramen.. even the noodles are out of package not hand made... won't go again Very stressful and not real happy environment as well.. took me 10mintues to finish the food cuz I feel rush..

Yelp
As Japanese food lovers (my boyfriend and I both lived in Japan for a while), we went to eat at Samurai because they were proposing tonkotsu ramen, the best but rarest kind of ramen. But it was a HUGE disappointment. The taste was nowhere near the real thing. Even the so-called gyoza were not that tasty. We thought we were going to the best Japanese restaurant in town but certainly not. The noodles were edible but even if you don't know anything about Japanese food i don't really think it's worth the money... You'd better go to a good Chinese or Vietnamese!

Yelp
I have been here before and loved it, but the magic was missing this time. I think maybe it was a different chef or maybe they have changed the recipe but that unctuousness I associate with ramen and miso was just not there. I had miso ramen with shrimp and it was okay. I had loved the tonkutso last time and this time the pork belly wasn't that great. Also the edamame sucked. It was overcooked and disappointingly limp. Not sure if will be back.

Christine U.

Yelp
Not very good ramen. Extremely salty tonkotsu broth. Chicken katsu was not anything special, almost like cheap kid's finger food. Noodles were Top Ramen-esque. Don't really know why I got ramen in Belgium when there is epic Belgian food, but hey, I thought it would be good like in San Francisco. I was wrong! Thumbs down.

Yelp
I was so excites to make it back tho samurai ramen shop. They have the best tonkatsu ramen I have had outside of Japan. I think samaurai ramen makes me happier than the Belgian waffles if I were to tell my dirty secret. Keep up the great work here at the best ramen shop in Brussels!

Olivier C.

Yelp
The place looks nice and you can see the staff preparing Gyoza in the kitchen. However, the ramen are very disappointing and simply over priced. There are not much vegetables. The soup, meat and ramen are at best average and thus does not justify the price. The Gyoza were quite good but I was quite surprised by their texture. It was much crunchy than what I am used to.

Poker C.

Yelp
A short, simple menu. Ramen with three soup bases, sides, and accompaniments of gyoza or edamame. Popular and I liked the food, but frankly expensive for what it is. Chris and I ordered the tonkotsu (pork-bone) and miso (they do red) bases, some tonkatsu and gyoza. The gyoza are nice, but nothing particularly special. The soup bases *are* good, although the traditional way to do it is to make it a bit too salty, which just doesn't fly with me. I prefer not being thirstier after a bowl of soup than before. One might complain at the relative lack of vegetables, but this is standard amount. You've got there the bamboo shoots, the wood-ear "mushroom", bean sprouts and a bit of seasonal greens. The average ramen shop in Japan will give you less, replacing them with domestic, manufactured foibles such as fish tofu. So, it's something to fill your ramen yearnings. if I lived in Brussels, I'd prefer making my own most of the time. I *would* eat here for the pork-bone base. (It's comparatively much harder to make.)

Yelp
I'm a fan. Got the shoyu ramen and thought it was excellent. The staff was super nice. I left my cash at the room and had to go to the ATM in the middle of my meal (cash only). It wasn't even an issue. Ran out, came back, paid and left full. The dumplings were fantastic.

Scarlett G.

Yelp
Delicious ramen. The place is tiny, though. And popular. So if you don't mind waiting a little bit... we arrived at just the right time and were seated fairly quickly. But not for big groups. I will definitely go back.

Yelp
I book marked this place as my boyfriend has been wanting to go for a while now since he read a review in Agenda. Ramen is one of my favorite dishes as it is quite simple, normally fresh and very filling. I only experience 1 out of these 3 qualities at Samourai Ramen and as such was very disappointed--this usually happens to me when I get all hyped up about a place. You choose from 3 soup bases, Miso, Soy or Pork. I choose the Soy, which was good. Then you choose your toppings, I ordered the shrimp. The ramen had very few vegetables in it, with only some mushrooms. The shrimp is fried, so you have to eat it faster if you don't want it to get soggy. The noodles themselves were good. The ramen was indeed simple but it was not very fresh tasting and not at all filling (normally it's so filling I can't even finish it all but not this time). I ordered the dumplings as well but failed to ask if they were vegetarian (my mistake, not theirs) and they weren't so my boyfriend got to eat them and I ordered some extra edamame, which was salty and yummy. Interior is very simple and includes limited seating, when ended up seating on high chairs facing the wall as it was already filled upstairs. Price was high, in my opinion. 17,50 for the ramen and dumplings, plus drinks. 2 things to note: they only take cash and do not take reservations. Service was fine, not outstanding but not bad either. All in all, I've had better ramen before so I won't be returning here....the search for the best tasting ramen in Brussels continues!

Yelp
It was "okay" ... the taste was very generic ... unfortunately still very expensive for such a generic bowl of ramen (15,50€ for ramen+meat at the time of this review). It's not bad. It's not fabulous. The green tea was below average that time. Maybe just bad luck. The service is "meh ok" (as everywhere in Belgium). The gyozas are fine but again generic and nothing worth remembering. Don't trust the other reviews about "the best Tonkatsu outside of Japan" aha :p That's ridiculous. Their ramen are just above the the instant ramen level and nowhere close what you could find in most joints in Japan for half the price. I would come back maybe if the price was below 10€ with the meat included (it's 13€ for ramen without meat ... seriously). As it is in many other Asian restaurants/snacks nearby where you can find such bowls with everything included for like 8-9€. And let's face it ... the price of a ramen bowl shouldn't exceed 6-8€ all-included. Which is still more than the average price in Tokyo which is not a cheap city (and don't even try to to use a "but the ingredients" in Europe. Fresh vegetables and meat are incredibly less expensive here.

Yelp
We really love ramen, but this one had no taste, only limited vegetables in it , and the beef was tender but also tasteless. I know they have decorated it so it looks like a fast food, but is is so 'cold' really no atmosphere at all. We wont be paying it a visit again.
