Sam's Burger Joint

Came with the family here on a Sunday afternoon. The hostess was nice and helped us get our order in. The place wasn’t too busy. There wasn’t many people so I would expect the tables to be cleaner. We ended up eating outside since most tables were sticky and not clean. The burgers are good. They do have the beyond burger for a plant based option. We tried the burgers, chicken sandwich, chicken tenders, onion rings and sweet potato fries. I have to admit the best were the onion rings. The burgers are good. If we’re in the area we’d stop by again.

This place has good burgers and chicken sandwiches as well as fries and onion rings. They have live bands that play at night I heard which i haven't been to yet. Good place to eat though.

I liked the diner. The atmosphere was really cool, diner food. It's not a fancy place but the food is good and the place is right next to the Pearl without the crazy prices that the restaurant at the Pearl have. Nice place to have a bite and walk around the market on Saturdays. The inside looks really cool.

In the past I had only visited Sam's for their swing dancing nights. Today I went for a lunch and I was not disappointed! I ordered a burger on lettuce, rather than a bun. My burger was cooked perfectly. We sat in a comfortable booth that was large and spacious. Our food didn't take long to arrive. We were meeting an old friend and ended staying 4 hours! The place was not particularly busy and no one made us leave for "staying too long", which was very nice. I highly recommend Sam's for a yummy lunch or dinner!

Dove by this place many times but this was my first visit. Service was fast and friendly. I ordered the green chile burger and it was served fresh and hot. The burger had a good meat to bun ratio and was very good a satisfying. The sweet potato fries was already very good. Atmosphere was very lively. Overall I give it a 10.

Love Sam's Burger joint, I did go see Gary Hoey, great event. Love his music!!! Great prices in drinks.

Taj Farrant , young Australian Stevie Ray tenured guitarist. Very solid skills. What I appreciated was his "no tatted, no drugs no drinking, mentioned his Mother on stage" direction he takes.. very likable young man.

Saw a concert for the first time here (Bumpin Uglies), and before seeing the main act I went to the restaurant side and got myself a burger. Love the way they present it too you. Biting into it, I couldn't eat it fast enough it was that good! Ill def return in the future to try other menu items. Also staff was real nice, always a bonus.

Had a great lunch at Sam's Burger Joint in San Antonio! The ladies at the register were super friendly and helpful, sharing their personal and fan favorites with us. We went with the mushroom Swiss burger and fried pickles--both were absolutely delicious! The vibe was awesome, even with a few large lunch groups--it still felt laid-back and enjoyable. The music was on point, and the quirky decor added to the fun. We were dining with someone visiting from out of town, and one of the staff kindly shared the story behind the photos and history on the walls, which made the experience even better. We can't wait to come back and show our out-of-town guest what Sam's is like during a concert--especially now that we know their venue next door fits up to 400 people!

Average but at least they have military discount. I think it's weird to pay & tip before you're served. The thin lady bussing the tables is very nice.

Had a good experience at Sam's burger. The burgers were good. The service was great. The ambience was nice. Very cute location. The staff were very friendly. The food was a bit pricey considering it's served in black plastic baskets. We paid $51 for a patty melt, a burger, chips and queso, fries and small sweet teas. #teamChrispen

Came here on a Wednesday afternoon easy parking, wasn't busy but sadly very disappointing. Which is a shame as we really wanted to like this place. The service was sub par, the food was way too greasy I had to tilt my burger so all the grease could drip out super gross it seemed like nothing had flavor or seasoning at the very least could have used salt we ordered two cheddar burgers one was suppose to be bacon cheddar but the cashier got it wrong so we got two cheddar burgers, guacamole burger and a mushroom Swiss burger we tried sweet potato fries regular fries onion rings and an order of fried mushrooms.. it was a total of four people dining and we all said the same thing way too greasy and no taste on any of it maybe they forgot about the salt and pepper lol so in conclusion this place is making it to our never again list

What a fun and delicious meal. The bacon burger and jerk chicken sandwich were flavorful and cooked to perfection! Holy cow, the onion rings and fried pickles had a perfect crunch and just the right amount of salt. The tater tots were great also. We were there early in the day and a steady stream of happy customers flowed through, that's how you know it's good. Loved the ambiance and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back!

I've been to Sams probably 30 times and each time have a good experience with minor changes in quality. My issue now is the concert venue. We saw Greg Koch (guitarist) and while we usually sit in the back facing the stage in booth 5 or 5, this time we were in Booth 2. The subwoofer and the kick drum mics were so loud that we couldn't hear the band. The entire booth was shaking and when the organ player hit bass notes it was even worse. We had to leave about an hour into the show because the sound was so bad. That's the first time this has happened and I'm assuming it was due to the booth location so a warning to others!

Sam's is in the regular lunch rotation and the burgers and service are the reason why. Can't go wrong with the mushroom Swiss or their eclectic burgers of the month. The stamped buns are buttery soft. The beef is thick and juicy. What more can you ask for from a local burger spot?

Burgers were great! Half pound with great buns. We also tried the fries and fried pickles. No complaints. You order at the counter. Fun, casual environment. It wasn't busy on a Friday night, but did take a while for our food to come out. A tad pricey for burgers. I'd recommend the kiddie burger (1/4 pound let with fries) for more value if that's enough food for you.

What a tasty burger! I had the cheaper bacon burger with fries and it was awesome! Our wait staff was super helpful and friendly. Sent compliments to the chefs in the back as the burger was cooked just right and moist. Love the feel of the inside with the music posters and album covers. Comfortable seating at the bar and plenty of space. Now interested in the music line up. Will have to look into that next as I will be back!

Not impressed with the quality of the food. This is our second time. Was really looking forward to having a burger like we did the first time. Bacon was very undercooked and chewy. The buns were falling apart, where they were so soggy. Everything was very bland and did not have any flavor at all. I would have rated it a one star, but I have to give credit to the skinny tall lady who was cleaning the table. She was super sweet. Definitely not on our must have us for next visit to SA!

Came here during lunch with coworkers. Not my choice but I was pleasantly surprised by my order. No the Jamaican Jerk Samwich wasn't authentic jerk, at least the jerk I've had. It was just a very flavorful, well done and seasoned piece of chicken. The tots were just normal tots, not great but not bad. We did order nachos. These were also just ok. The place is pretty cool, and had a great time looking all over the walls and ceiling. My rating is mostly for just my order, as I can't pick off my coworkers plates like I do with family. Next I will bring them and try other items.

I ordered a burger with cheese and with avocado slices and a Coke. Not only did I not get my avocado slices. My burger was raw all the way through. I will be posting pictures of this ugly burger that I paid money for it was horrible. I'm very upset and disappointed and I ordered from this place thinking it was gonna be great I was so wrong. It took over an hour for me to get my food just to have it delivered raw. I'm very pisst off!!!

I placed a to-go order, and it was ready quickly. The burgers are flavorful, but a bit on the pricey side, and they don't include sides, so you have to purchase those separately.

Not very impressed the couple times eating here. Food was plain, flavorless and disappointingly small portioned. The price was eye gouging for the small size of food ordered.

Nice big burgers that don't skimp on the toppings or the taste. An unintended trip led me back to Sam's Burger Joint after a long hiatus. It was a good experience, as much as it was in the past. I love their bean burger, but this time I went with the guacamole Jack Burger. It came loaded with lots of guac' and a huge piece of cheese that pretty much wrapped the burger. I always love their sweet potato fries, but they also have tater tots, regular fries, and fried pickles. Next time I will re-investigate their fried pickles. I got street parking for a quarter (yep, 25¢) for the hour. They have a small bar, but I was in uniform and decided to quench my thirst in bottomless Texas sweet tea, that I transitioned to an Arni Palmer on our way out. If I had the opportunity, I would certainly return to hang out for the live music entertainment that Sam's is known for. I'm glad I got a chance to revisit Sam's. It's a good place for fun and a good burger.

7/10 Got two cheddar burgers and the burgers are really good. I would say a 7/10 . I don't care for the pickles and the mustard so I probably wouldn't do that again. But that's just personal preference. The fries are really good . The fried pickles are in spears , the batter is really good, but I probably wouldn't get them again. The sweet tea is good and the soda drinks are good too . Overall, I still would give this 7/10

Ordered food and paid for it. 30 mins later .... No food. I asked what was going on. They said the ticket wasn't received in the kitchen. Everyone else in my group was finished eating. They did nothing to try to make it better. Only gave me a refund and not so much as an apology. I'll never go here again and I recommend you don't either. The person I dealt with was AG we felt she had a bad attitude even before this screw up.

Great spot. Stopped en route to Austin to get a break from the holiday traffic and it couldn't have been more perfect. The ambiance alone is worth the trip. As it's a "Burger Joint", we obviously got the lasagna... ...kidding, it was the time and place for burgers so dagnabbit - we got burgers. The burgers and fries were excellent and the service was friendly and fast. I will definitely be stopping through when in SA. This place ticks all the right marks: superb site, fantastic food, awesome ambiance, and friendly folks. The trip has made me insufferably alliterative.

Not at all regarding the food...which is good! I mean let's be honest...it's a burger...but a good one. This is an historic music venue! Go there in any given night, and very possibly see a band who one day will be on the national stage!! This is an iconic venue, great place, staff, seating, drinks! This is what the Armadillo World Headquarters once was in Austin! See for yourself!

Don't order anything if there is a large crowd after you! Tonight all i got was "sorry I know it's been sitting here a longtime....enjoy your meal! Ya for cold horrible food!!! Soggy bread, soggy fries, and an order that everything we ordered was wrong! IT WASN'T EVEN THAT BUSY ‍ I guess just beware!!

The wings are too thin. But burgers are probably better. Service was good. Ambiance was fine. I would go back and try something different.

Burger was good, onion ring's while they were good, they were given to me cold. I wanted Diet Coke but, it tasted like Root beer. I opted for unsweet tea which was good. Service is excellent and your food comes out fairly quickly. I hadn't been there in several years, so it was nice to go back and grab a burger again. I would go back for food or a concert / stand up show as I have in the past.

Ok I know it's a low rating. Why,because they fell to tell you. That burgers are basically raw. Maybe seared but that's it. My wife couldn't even eat three bites of it. I don't mind too much but,still ate it. We saw three other people going back up and stating the burgers were raw. Other than that. The fries were great and the onion rings were also really good. I wish some restaurants would go to fried pickle chips instead of pickle slices. We tend not to burn our mouth with chips. The restaurant is cozy. Typical old hole in the the wall. I will go back and give them another chance. The next time I will remember to order the burger well done.

This was my first time here and had a nice lunch. Quality food with a great flavor. Fries were cooked perfectly and crispy. Not too busy at the time we went. Cool vibe and a lot of people go to listen to the bands that play there. There is a lot of parking if you pay but if you want free parking you have to get lucky or drive in circles. That was the only issue we had. Good burger spot if you're craving one.

I had their chicken sandwich, it was very good and tasty. The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was quick. This was my first time eating here and it wont be the last time. The decorations are awesome and the picture collection is amazing. Stop on by and eat some good food!

If you're looking for a burger joint this is the place to go! The burgers are good and the atmosphere was fun! The cons: the space to sit is limited and because we went around 4pm the line to order was a little long! The food however came out pretty quickly and was nice and warm! The burger was good but I wouldn't rate it great! The service was GREAT and the drinks from the bar were on point! Overall a good little place to grab a quick bite to eat!

this was my first time trying this place I'm not big on burgers, I wasn't too hungry, so I got the trio sliders and I actually thought they were very good. There was one called the bean burger and it was my favorite. The fried mushrooms were really good as well. The ladies were very nice. The place is very cute in the inside. I will definitely be back to try something different.

Before visiting Sam's I was told by a friend that a band would be performing at 8am. A burger and a show was so perfect for a night downtown, plenty of fun. Now the food was a little on the experience Side no combos which made me sad but still ordered a bacon cheese burger choice of tater tots, fries, and onion rings were extra food was amazing but would just go to for the show and a side ofonion rings with ranch. :d

Great experience the workers were nice had a bit too much to drink but it made the experience 10 times better the night life is amazing found a girl there and secured the date best day ever

I had high hopes for this place, but my partner was let down. Her burger was completely cold...and I am trying to understand why. I came out looking amazing but the patty was completely cold. But they were nice enough to make another and we appreciated that. The vibe was really nice inside, so check them out.

Food was nice and warm when received it! Got there around 12 and it wasn't too packed but once we were done I think the crowd started coming in. Music on the speakers was great! Older classic stuff!:) A little pricey but I mean... You're downtown. It was $50 for these 2 meals, add ons to the entrees and sides, and the fountain drinks. Would go again :)

Funky little place and dog friendly patio made this the perfect place to stop when heading back home. Staff was super friendly and they even brought some water for the dog! Burgers were Big and Juicy cooked to perfection. Onion Rings we're one of the best in San Antonio by far. Serves hot and fresh the crunk was outstanding. If you love onion rings this is a must stop in Texas.

Not too thin, not too thick, just right! I'm talking about the thickness of the burger patty- it's not thin like fast food burgers, not thick and too rare, rather...perfect, in my opinion. The flavor is spot on too- charbroiled deliciousness! What else makes a great burger? The bun, of course, and Sam's got that right too. My guy got a Swiss mushroom burger, and I got an old-fashioned. We both loved them. The atmosphere was nice as well- rustic decor that's fun to check out while you wait for your order. The location was perfect as we were attending a Spurs/Bulls game-so if you're attending an event at the ATT Center, you gotta go here. It was clean and the service was friendly. They have an outdoor patio area, if you prefer eating outside these days. I highly recommend Sam's. Hope you'll try it and let me know what you think.

I'm noticing a trend with Sam's Burger... "I wanted to like this place but just couldn't." That's exactly how I feel. We ordered 5 burgers, an onion ring, a fry, mushrooms, a Frito pie, and a fountain drink. That cost $80 for counter service, and the food just wasn't good! The staff is working hard, and I appreciate them, but I can't get on board with the food. Their burgers were some of the most unenjoyable burgers I've eaten. The patty was dry and had no salt. I like to eat (so much that I've gained 15 pounds in the last year), and I couldn't convince myself to eat anymore of this. The burger bun, with their fun signature sear, was actually hard and dry. Perhaps the issue is inconsistency- looks like some folks think the burgers are great. If you think the service is slow, be patient. Restaurants are understaffed, and these are the folks still showing up to work. Fun vibe, but for the last time... can't do it again.

I had never been here. Sam's Burger Joint is just a super casual burger joint! Tasty burgers & chicken burgers & sides. The service was friendly. Loved it. We ate before a concert & how I loved the small coziness of the venue. Already planning on our next visit.

I have gone to the music venue several times. I love it. This was my first time at the restaurant. I had no idea the bar was separate from the food. I order my food I leave a generous tip for 1 meal. I go to the bar and ordered two drinks for myself so I wouldn't have to stand in the long line again. There was no mixing of drinks no special order. Just two beers. The bartender with short hair decided for me that I needed to leave a tip. She stayed staring at me for a solid 3 to 4 minutes because I put $0 tip. I didn't leave my tab open and she wasn't serving me by any means. Just cracked open two beers. When I called the restaurant I was hung up on several times. The food itself was delicious but the service, very distasteful!
