The 38 Best Restaurants in Markham, Ontario | Eater

"A warm bowl of congee is perfect any time of day, and no one does it better than this institution of savory rice porridge. Wong Sam founded Sam’s in Hong Kong in 1966 before emigrating with his family to Canada in the 1990s. They set up shop near the Pacific Mall, but in 2018, the family moved the restaurant to its current location, where luscious, silky bowls of comfort are served inside a casual space awash in teal. If you’re unsure about what to order, just go with one of the classics: shredded pork with preserved egg; minced beef with pork’s pudding; or an assortment of minced beef, squid, and pork rind. Do get dough sticks to enjoy with the soup, and absolutely order one of Sam’s first-class handmade rice rolls. [$]" - Faiyaz Kara

Google
Such a hidden gem and under rated traditional Chinese breakfast restaurant with reasonable price. From outside, it doesn’t have any appealing look, while inside, very clean and bright nice space, very well-organized, efficient service. We came on Sunday morning, it was all full, with groups of people waiting. It was nice to see the well-lit kitchen, where Chinese dough stick being fried. After waiting for about 10 mins, we were seated at a table with hot tea served right after. We ordered the dough stick 301, 303 and 203, porridge with salted and pickled eggs, all came hot, fresh and yummy. Highly recommended!

Authentic taste of Hong Kong brought back a lot of nostalgia. Especially the congee, that was a taste of childhood. Definitely order the congee but the rest of the menu is tasty too. Highly recommend.

Google
A traditional old Hong Kong style congee place in Toronto. I love their congee very much. Their breakfast side dishes are delicious, too. I love their background wall showing their old location in Hong Kong with a long bench. It feels nostalgic that the waiting people are sitting on the bench like waiting in front of their old location which brought us a lot of memories.

Congee is good and able to recall good old time HK taste, spacious restarant, food portion is generally quite basic on this price.

Sam’s Congee Delight – The Best Fish Congee in Town! I recently stopped by Sam’s Congee Delight in Woodbine, Markham, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit! If you’re a congee lover, this spot is a must-try. The food, the service, and the atmosphere all exceeded expectations. Here’s why I’m raving about it: 🍲 Fish Congee: Hands down the best I’ve had! The congee is silky smooth, perfectly seasoned, and loaded with tender, fresh fish. Every spoonful was comforting and flavorful—pure perfection in a bowl. ✅ Amazing Service: The staff here are incredibly friendly and attentive. Despite the busy atmosphere, they made sure everything was quick and seamless, which only added to the experience. 🥟 More Than Just Congee: Their menu offers plenty of other dishes and sides, but the fish congee stole the show for me. ⭐ Pro Tip: If you’re in the Markham area, make this your next stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner—it’s worth it! Highly recommend, especially for their unbeatable fish congee and good price.

Congee and crepes were decent. But the must have is the curry squid- so flavorful and savory! No frills place tho

Arrived just after 11am on a Saturday. We were fortunate as there was no line and we got a table right away. Service was quick The restaurant looked very clean. I will definitely be coming back here for certain dishes. Things we liked: Plain Congee - testy with no MSG. I would've preferred it to be a little thicker, but it was still very good. Dough fritter rice noodle roll - this dish was so good that we ordered a second one. Fried noodle with bean sprout - tasty but not overly salty and not super oily, which was wonderful. Things that were just OK that we didn't like: Rice noodle roll with dried shrimp - the rice noodle was very good; however, we would've preferred that the dried shrimp was embedded in the rice noodle, not just sprinkled on top and then rolled up. Hot mung bean paste dessert - this was OK. It would've been better if it was actually hot and not room temperature. Hot black sesame paste dessert - I do not recommend this. It was gelatinous and tasted more like something that came out of a box.

Food is slight expensive for the size of the portion but the quality is good. Place is nice and clean. Service was great. This place has been open in Toronto for more than 30 yrs. They always have good quality of food. Just the fried noodle now is not as hot as usual, it gets cold very soon after it was served. Pork liver congee is always my favorite in here.

Yelp
This place is busy and bustling even early in the morning. The service is quick and efficient. We got our food not long after putting in our order. The assorted congee was super comforting and tasted like a warm hug. There were bits of minced beef, squid, and pork rind in it, and paired so well with the freshly fried dough sticks. The fried noodles with bean sprout were really good, but truthfully, we could have gone without it. We wanted to try it since it was our first time and seems to be a popular dish. The rice rolls were my personal favorite. It was so fresh, had a nice chew, and it just hit all the right spots in flavor. The prices here are so good and super affordable, too! It's definitely worth it!

Yelp
My boyfriend showed me this little Markham gem -- if you love congee, this is your next spot Authentic taste of Hong Kong and affordable meals true to the traditional flavours of congee, rice rolls, and fried dough. Here's what we ordered: * 101 - Minced Beef Congee $7.50 * 193 -2 Kinds of Egg (Salted & Preserved Egg) Congee $9.50 * 203 - w/ Dough Stick $7.00 * 302 - Sweet Cruller (1pc) $2.75 Servers were quick and efficient. The interior is simple and showcases the original open air food stall from 1966 on the wall near the front entrance! Lots of seating inside, great for groups of 2-6. Plenty of free parking outside as well. We wanted to try the cruller with bean paste $2.75 (303) but they sold out - we'll definitely come back to try some more menu items later! 20250426

Yelp
This spot used to be inside Market Village next to Pacific mall, been a long time since I've been here so I was super excited to try this delicious HK comfort food again! Service was incredibly fast and restaurant is much more modern and nicer than the old location. The food was really good, very traditional Hong Kong style dishes with amazing flavour. Congee isn't for everyone but Sam's congee is packed with flavour. Here's what we ordered: 101 - Minced Beef Congee $7.50 (9/10) 193 -2 Kinds of Egg (Salted & Preserved Egg) Congee $9.50 (8.5/10) 203 - w/ Dough Stick $7.00 (9/10) 302 - Sweet Cruller (1pc) $2.75 (9/10) All the food was amazing and fairly priced (especially in today market). Highly recommend and will definitely be back again soon!!

Yelp
No complaints. Fast and courteous service. The food is great! The congee is smooth, the fried dough is freshly fried, the curry sauce for the cuttlefish and fish balls is delightful. Awesome. I'm a fan!

Yelp
Pricey for congee but they have lots of flavor combinations. The dough stick with rice noodle was decent size. The streamed radish cake was very small for the costs. Parking available in plaza.

Yelp
During a Toronto trip, our family friends took us to Sam's Congee Delight. Apparently, the restaurant has roots to Hong Kong which is where its original location can be found. For a group of 4, we ordered: -203. Rice Roll w/ Dough Stick -104. Pork's pudding congee -102. Assorted minced beef, squid, and pork rind congee -502. Fried noodles w/ bean sprout -206. Rice roll w/ shrimp The shrimp rice roll is one of my personal all-time favorite dishes, and the dish at Sam's did not disappoint. I also enjoyed the interesting combination of the soft rice roll with the crunchy dough inside (similar crispness as a donut). I usually don't order congee at restaurants, but I enjoyed Sam's version as it was flavorful with a nice texture.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is so delicious and so affordable. My favorite would have to be shredded pork with preserved egg congee paired with dough sticks. The servers are all friendly and very fast. I would highly recommend coming here.

Yelp
The place is clean and busy. It still has the Hong Kong street food tastes. It brought back my memories. Food is same as Hong Kong 'Dai Pai Dong' taste- which is different from restaurant taste. The price is not street food price tho.

Yelp
Fast paced, classic Chinese breakfast items. Came here on a weekend morning and it was packed! We were greeted by a waitress that put us down and gave us a buzzer. We waited around 15-20 minutes before getting seated. Once seated, you see that you have communal sauces on the table like soy sauce, hot sauce, peanut sauce, sesame, pepper and salt. Food came quickly after ordering. Here's what we got: Fried noodle with bean sprout 2.5/5 - Kind of bland to be honest. Tasted a lot better with some hot sauce on it Fried dough fritter 4/5 - Nice and crispy and pairs well with congee Preserved egg congee 3/5 - It was pretty standard but nothing special. Can be seasoned yourself with soy sauce, salt and pepper. Plain rice rolls 2/5 - Usually what I use to gauge this dish at a restaurant. It simply was not silky enough as I've had with other restaurants. I like that the soy sauce, peanut sauce and sesame is on the table for you to put as much or as little as you'd like. Dried shrimp rice rolls 2/5 - Again, not silky enough for that mouth feel. Overall, I think the food can use more of an update with their flavours. Service was quick and attentive though. Still give it a try if you're looking for a simple, cheap eat.

Yelp
My friend said this is a traditional HK style breakfast place and is very good with the rice strips with different fillings. We got one rice strip with shrimp and the other one have fried Chinese dough. Server is pretty fast after we delivered the written order. The washroom is pretty clean. Not a lot of people today maybe because of Canada Day. We also ordered preserved egg congee. It's very good, no weird ammonia taste like some other places. Right now can't eat too much, will definitely go back to try something different next time.

Yelp
Food: still great. Service: rude+++ Update. Been eating at Sam's since I was little at Market Village. Service then and also at this new location pre-Covid has been your average typical Chinese restaurant which is quick and straight which is great for a fast in and out dining experience. Today... wow. Saturday, not super busy so no reason to be annoyed/rude. The attitude was ... Food was great like normal but when we paid the bill, we normally tip as per service and we know what they're service can be like but today they were deserving of the 20% we normally give. The lady looks at the total... and says, "Tips isn't included in the bill." We had left a bit over 10%. She wouldn't take the money to the counter. Whatever, we left it and another guy came to get it and brought it back. We left all the change. The lady comes back and says we didn't leave tips. Ok... that was it. I took the $5 back and left all the coins which was more than a dollar. We got up to leave and he chases us to the exit saying the bill didn't include tips. I looked at him and said, "I'm sorry but you don't chase people for tips. If you want tips you have to earn it." There's always a first for everything. So BEWARE and leave tips if you don't want to be chased. We won't be coming back any time soon. Too many other places we can go to.

Yelp
Large place, tables are spread out, reminds me of a school canteen setting. Staff immediately sat us down with tea and menus. Ordered my favorite century egg and pork congee, my partner ordered the pork blood & fish congee. Side dishes-fried bread sticks, steamed liver rice rolls, and spicy tofu. Congee more on the creamy smooth side with minimum rice bits, started to separate towards the end. I liked the pork as it's shredded like pulled pork instead of pork chunks like in most other congee places. Century egg also had a good Unami profile. Fried dough sticks cooked perfectly, not greasy with a nice crunch. Plenty of liver in the rice rolls. The star of the show was the spicy tofu. Silky smooth with a nice spicy kick, worth the visit alone. I'll be back for sure

Yelp
This place is very cheap and nostalgic! Very efficient and great portioning. The quality is not the highest (noodles are not as crisp as they should be, curry is a little watered down). Ambiance is simple and lovely.

Yelp
I have nothing but good things to say about this place! I often went to their Market Village shop before they moved here when I was a kid. I was excited to try this for nostalgia especially after 8 years. I had their minced beef congee which was my go-to as a kid. My friend had pig blood congee (not featured in the pic) and we shared a steamed shrimp roll. The congee came out piping hot which was just as I remember from my childhood. The steamed roll was average. The service was fast and what really surprised me was their interior! They have Tiffany blue colored chairs and everything just looks so much nicer. There's a lot of seating here. Overall really nice place and good food!
google avatar

Mary Z.

Yelp
We always come here for breakfast when in Markham. Their congee is the ultimate comfort food. Their fried noodle with bean sprouts is also very good since it's not too oily. Their dough sticks (youtiao) and sesame seed balls are also solid.

Yelp
Sam's Congee Delight truly was a delight! Really superb congee base. Didn't have as much fish as Yin Ji Chang Fen, but we preferred this congee base's flavor more. Also ordered shrimp cheung fun--that was good, but shrimp wasn't as large as other dim sum joints. Definitely recommend for natural tasting congee.

Yelp
Definitely not the taste I remember. I knew Sam's Congee Delight relocated a couple years back from the OG Market Village location but never took the time to figure out where. Guess it wasn't that popular after since none of my friends/family mentioned it anyways. I can see why now. My girlfriend and I went for a Saturday lunch. The wait wasn't long but still certainly not worth the wait. We ordered a handful of our previous favourites: Congee w/chicken slices and beef slices, dough stick rice roll, sweet cruller, and fried noodle w/ bean sprout. Service is exceptionally fast and the dishes came flying out once our waitress punched in the order. Everything about the restaurant speaks fast-food chain surprisingly. The congee came out bland and diluted, opaque and anemic. I was barely able to identify grains of rice. Chicken and beef slices were silky smooth, albeit underseasoned. Both bowls of congee come with green onion and peanuts by default - make sure to tell the waitress to exclude either if there are preferences and/or allergies. Luckily, each table comes with a wide array of seasonings (i.e. salt, white pepper, sesame seeds, soy sauce, hot sauce, oyster sauce, and peanut sauce) in clean bottles. My congee was slightly more palatable after a generous dusting of salt and white pepper. If you get the dough stick rice roll, make sure to add the staple sesame seeds, oyster sauce, and peanut sauce to add a punch of flavour. I love how the dish doesn't come doused in sauce already, giving that power to the customer. The sweet cruller was fried quite well, not overwhelmingly oily. It was slightly too sweet for my liking, but a definitely a must-try if you already have the standard dough stick in your order. Unfortunately, the fried noodles were, limp, so to speak. It lacked flavour. Maybe our portion from was a one-off, but the dish absolutely needed more aromatics to lift it up. Overall, portion sizes were small. Not worth the prices you're paying. Catch me eating congee in the GTA...other than Sam's Congee Delight.

Yelp
Sam's Congee Delight offers some of the best food around, and it's incredibly affordable too. Their dishes are flavorful, satisfying, and perfect for anyone looking for a great meal without breaking the bank.

Yelp
I loved the congee!! Pork with preserved egg is a classic and the spicy tofu shockingly paired well with congee. The soy milk was fresh also as well and fried dough sticks were crunchy but the soy sauce noodles were disappointingly soggy and dry.

Yelp
If you're craving authentic Hong Kong style breakfast, this is the number one spot to go to! Everything here is made so expertly with amazing and fresh ingredients. There are so many items on the menu that I can't wait to come back next time! Here is my analysis of what we ordered: BBQ rice roll - freshly made rice roll with pieces of bbq pork and sweet soy sauce drizzled all over. You can definitely taste the freshness of the rice roll and will definitely recommend trying! Chicken and preserved egg congee - the star of the show! The chicken was so soft and the preserved egg so creamy! We added a salted egg which also enhanced the flavor even more. Be aware that the flavor is bland on purpose so that customers can add their preferred amount of salt and white pepper. DEFINITELY try this because it's by far the best congee I ever had...and I normally don't order congee at all :p Pork blood and radish - very fresh and smooth texture for the pork blood! It was highly recommended by our friends and family so we tried it. It was definitely very smooth and the radish was delicious! Turnip cake - the best turnip cake we ever had. Unlike other Chinese restaurants where they are served in square pieces, this place serves it in a ball, which was both unique and refreshing to try! Very strong turnip flavor and I will definitely recommend it since it's also fairly cheap! Beef brisket - extremely moist and well seasoned! Served on top of some lettuce, it's a perfect balance of the two! If you ordered some rice roll, you can pour some beef brisket and sauce on top to enhance it as well! Definitely would recommend! Overall this is by far one of the best Hong Kong style breakfast place we have ever been to. We came around 11 on a Saturday and was seated immediately, which I think was just luck on our part since it got crowded shortly after. Definitely coming back hands down! Thank you for reading!!

Yelp
Good congee fare. Reasonably priced with very efficient fast service. Ambience typical HK style diner, clean and functional. Quite busy on Sunday even after 2pm
google avatar

Yelp
Our go-to for a quick and easy comfort breakfast! Traditional congee fare with great side dishes! Good for families and elderly, but is considered a fast food place. No frills! Don't forget to sprinkle sesame seeds on everything!
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
Fast service. Despite being a full house, food still comes quick! Ja leung (fried donut in rice roll) wasn't crunchy, I'd skip this next time. Donut stick was fresh and crispy. Rice rolls are soft and tasty. Fried noodles are decent and well priced, has a nice wok taste. Plain rice roll is silky smooth excellent, I may like it more than their beef rice roll. Use the peanut sauce, it's good. Good amount of free parking in the lot Close to Woodbine and Steeles. Definitely worth checking out.

Yelp
This place is a must go one. It's always delicious whenever I go to Canada and eat there. Their congee and rice noodle crepes are good. They have so many different kinds of congee there. Their congee is so smooth and good. My favorite is the sweet crullers. We had to order another one because we love it so much that we finished the 1st one before we even eat the congee.
google avatar

Jeff K.

Yelp
The perfect HK food experience. Totally recommend. We got preserved egg and pork congee, dough stick rice noodles, curry cuttlefish, pork rind and fish balls, fried noodles with bean sprouts and the steamed radish cake. Highlights are the dough stick rice noodles (SO SOFT AND SMOOTH), curry cuttlefish (springy but not chewy, incredible texture) and the steamed radish cake (delicate radish flavour with nice mouth feel). Overall highly recommended and relatively affordable. Eating here brings back nonexistent memories of being in HK eating in a small family owned restaurant. Staff here are super friendly too. Also reminder this place is cash only or debit. Forgot to take pics because it was so good!

Yelp
Sam's Congee Delight is a fantastic Cantonese congee restaurant serving the most authentic tasting Hong Kong style traditional congee, noodles, handmade rice rolls and award-winning deep-fried dough. A little background first. It was founded by Wong Sam in Kwun Tong, one of the densest districts in HK. In 1966 they operated an open-air food stall (Dai Pai Dong - 大排檔), a "big licence stall". In 1990 they relocated to Mong Kok, Kowloon and became a full-service restaurant, after the first establishment was permanently closed due to the Kwun Tong Revitalization Project. Wong's family came to Canada in the 1990s and opened Sam's Congee Delight which used to be located inside Markham's Market Village for 20 plus years. In 2018 the restaurant was relocated to 7354 Woodbine Avenue in Markham. I was so glad to have found this restaurant open during the pandemic, so I ordered a bit of everything and shared it with family. *Fried noodles *Fish Slices Congee * *Preserved Egg with Pork Congee * *Dried Shrimp Rice Roll *Fried Dough Sticks * *Steamed Radish Their food was perfect *. With over 50 years of perfecting their delicious dishes, spanning from Hong Kong to Canada, everything tasted exactly how it should be enjoyed. Definitely a top congee spot!

Yelp
I guess this must be a famous place when the locals recommend it and there's a long line at 10 am in the morning. We managed to snatch a table after 20 minutes of wait. They move relatively pretty click. Their congee is spectacular and the beef stew is soft and delicious. However, the soy sauce noodles, fish shumai, and fried dough rice noodles were disappointing. Not worth the wait for me next time I go.

Yelp
Yummy delicious old fashion congee...need I say more. This place is authentic and a mom and pop shop. It's always comforting to have congee and they have a great variety.

Yelp
Sam's has been a regular place I go to when there isnt a line up. Love the fast service and the walkie talkie setup the staff have. The parking lot fills fast and when you go in, you see the kitchen from the entrance. Cute ikea -like set up seating and just people running around table to table. A little mutter in the room, it's a great place to eat alone or with people. During pandemic they provided patrons with plastic bags for mask, thanks! Washroom is clean, table turnover fast. Eating here is like having pieces of meals my mom would make. Nice fix when mom isnt making sticky rice and congee.

Yelp
Came here for a morning brunch on weekend and found a spot to sit quite quickly. The staff were all very quick and efficient, the food we ordered came quite fast. It's very no-frills and your expected Chinese breakfast fare. The prices aren't particularly cheap compared to others (they're all around the same price), but you can get a nice variety of breakfast items for a good price! It's a bit out of the way for me to come here, and I'm not quite sure if it's worth the drive for me. But I would definitely suggest visiting this place for a quick, affordable, and shareable meal! [This review is from before the pandemic]

Yelp
I've been going to Sam's Congee since immigrating to Canada over two decades ago. My dad has been eating at Sam's since they were located in Hong Kong. There is something extremely nostalgic about this simple comfort food. It's nothing mind blowing, but it makes me think of my childhood. The 炸兩 (the fried dough stick wrapped in rice noodle roll, Jaa leung) is a must order. Load it with the sauces, sprinkle a bunch of sesame seeds, enjoy the crispy and nicely chewy dough stick with the wrapping absorbing the sauce. When my family goes we usually each order a plate for ourselves lol. The fried noodles are usually good too!

Yelp
This is a great place for congee breakfast and simple Chinese food. I ordered the simple pork and preserved egg congee and it's boiling hot at the beginning. The servers were very quick and able to get stuff to us very quickly. The place is well lit and lots of people come in and out very quickly. I went in on Saturday morning around 9:45 and the place had a long line up quickly after me. Great for food and cravings of congee at anytime of the day.

Yelp
Delicious dim sum food. If you are from out of the country like we were, make sure you have Canadian cash. The service was nice and helpful. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for some dim sum food :)

Yelp
I'm always excited and ready to try new congee places, especially if I have family, friends or even family friends who recommend them to me. Sam's Congee Delight is no exception and here's my experience: Personally, I like eating lighter meals because I hate the feeling of being stuffed. So my partner and I only got 1 congee each and dough sticks because how can you miss out on eating congee with dough sticks. I got the Shredded Pork w/ Preserved Egg while she got 2 Eggs (Both preserved and salted) Congee. Both Congees were nicely seasoned, might be a bit on the bland side but they have salt on the side (and other condiments) for you to use if it's too bland. The dough sticks were a bit oily and they aren't as crunchy as other places i've been to BUT THEY ARE REALLY SOFT. If it wasn't for some mishaps, I would definitely give them a 5 star review. As for the mishaps, I know for some others these would be a big deal for others but for me it's more about how the restaurant takes it and if they fix these problems. When I let them know about a bad piece of preserved egg in the congee and a shell, they apologized many times and offered to give another one. Unfortunately for us, we were too full to accept it. I hope the next time I visit, I don't see any of these problems. Im more than happy to change my review if my next couple trips go smoothly! tl;dr: Food was very good, however due to some mishaps I can't give them a 5 star review. They took the criticism well and I hope they fix these problems for the future.

Yelp
Environment: compared to their old store in Market Village (RIP), this place was a LOT bigger and a LOT brighter. Staff: quick, busy, and kind. Side note: so, because so many people were there, we each get a little number so we know when it's our turn. A server would use a mic to call so people just sat on the side and wait. Pretty useful system and you don't have to YELL over others. Food: Got 3 kinds of congee. The prices ranged from $7-8 and they were all delicious. We got "chern fun" and those were nicely made. It was smooth and you can see an open kitchen where they steam and make the chern fun. We got chinese donut that was wrapped around chern fun and that was really good too. Texture was great! I wish I knew about this place sooner so I could eat yummy and very affordable congee and chern fun.

Yelp
Weordered the pork and chicken congee. The congees were p lit, lots of toppings! However, the congee qualities were not very consistent. The first time we came, the congee was watery. The second time, which is this time, was the right viscosity. The dough fritters were good overall. There's def a reason why they're known for their great quality. They make them in-house so they come out v fresh. The bbq pork rice rolls were pretty good! Def recommend them over the shrimp ones. The rice rolls were thin and consistent throughout. Noodles were inconsistent throughout. It's really a hit or miss depending on the chef's mood. I still like it tho bc I love noodles in general :'( Def reco for cheap lunches. Service is not really included in the score here bc it's an Asian place but I do like the quality of food here for congees. Come before 11am to get a seat!

Yelp
Solid HK style food with your staples of steamed rice rolls, desserts, congee, and usual Asian apps. My group got to try of a variety of items like the shrimp and brisket rice rolls, curry fish balls, fried dough, tapioca pudding, and a few congees. The overall consensus was that it was good. Definitely not a place I would crave all the time. The reason it gets a 3 star to me was paying. As American's, their conversion was 1-to-1 which honestly felt predatory to me as tourist. We ended up going to an ATM to get money but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Yelp
I would say this place is a solid 3.5! I come here when I'm craving a personal congee and the dough fritter rolls mmmm. They have peanut butter bottles and all the sauces you want for your dishes to the side of you. Mmm! This place has fast, attentive service and has plenty of seating. Cheap prices, but don't expect top top quality food. Just good grab and go quick lunches with a bunch is your friends. :) If you're in the area! Reach!

Yelp
Closer to 3.5 overall. Service: overall staff are polite and service was quick. If you had something that took longer they will actually come and let you know ahead of time. (eg noodles were taking longer but staff came out to give us a notice every now and then to inform us that they didnt forget out order) beef brisket rice noodle roll 4/5 - good amount of and rich in flavour sauce, brisket was nice and tender, a little on the fatter side but some people enjoy beef brisket for that reason. Noodles were also very smooth, but this dish in general I felt was harder to eat as a whole and was a bit on the pricier side of 7.50. steamed turnip patty 3.5/5 - one of my favourite dishes in general and they made it relatively well. plain and simple of turnips and flour. Good soy sauce base to give it extra flavour. salty fried dough ( 咸煎餅 ) 2.5/5 - this one was good at first but lacked flavour and as I continued to eat it I felt like it was a little bit too chewy and not representative of what it should be in terms of texture and flavour. Couldn't taste the sauce that makes it salty either ( 南乳). sweet fried dough 2.5/5 - pretty much the same as above but slightly sweeter. I watched them microwave it even though the pastry was freshly made, which made it a bit rubbery as above. Had better elsewhere. combination congee 3.5/5 - good amount of filling and not just one ingredient that overpowered the combination congee. The congee base itself was nicely cooked, not too watery but not overly thick. Not salty either so I appreciated that. overall would come back for a quick bite and relatively cheap in price. Portions arent big but good enough to satisfy the tummy.

Yelp
Visited Sam's Congee new location after Market Village has closed. New location is definitely more spacious and accommodate more patrons. The place is still busy at lunch hours and the line could be long; however, the turnover is pretty quick. On my first visit, of course I have to have their famous "boat congee", "liver congee", fried noodles with bean sprouts, rice roll with deep fried dough. I am very glad the quality and flavours maintained, yet the price increases quite a lot. Sam's congee is still my top choice, but only if I really crave for Hong Kong style congees.

Yelp
Oof. How things have changed after moving from Market Village. Came for a late lunch around 2:15 on a Saturday. Chose this time because last time I tried to visit (albeit peak lunch hour on a weekend), the entire waiting area was full with people. Which is saying a lot since the new location is definitely more spacious in all aspects. Ordered the sweet crueller (1.8), fried noodles (x2) (3.5), rice roll (3.25), and shredded pork congee (5.25) for 2 people. Would have gotten more but looking around it was simply not worth it. Too expensive for the current sizes, definitely most evident with the congee. Not much to say about the dishes themselves except that the crueller was TOO sweet, despite its name. It's too bad as I definitely craved the congee and rice rolls from here growing up. Will be looking for alternatives in the area that can offer some more value.

Yelp
Another of our must visits when we go to Markham. My sons love their congee and noodles. Service is good and food is excellent!

Yelp
We tried various items on the menu. We only loved one item: the curry squid was really delicious. Surprisingly their congee was very mediocre and so was the liver. All other items were forgettable.

Yelp
I was in the area with my mum and we decided to come by. She is a big fan of fried dough with hot soy milk, a classic breakfast from her childhood. We decided to try that, along with a mung bean and black sesame pudding. The fried dough was fresh and delicious, albeit on the salty side. Mum was not too impressed with how lukewarm the soy milk was, as it should be piping hot instead. The mung bean/sesame pudding is a hard pass for next time, as it tastes exactly like the little packets of black sesame powder you can add hot water to and have at home. Quite tasty, sure, but not worth getting here. If we are ever in the area again, I think I would like to give this place a second go as it had some redeeming points. We were not very hungry but the table next to us ordered some delicious looking congee and rice rolls that I would like to try.

Yelp
This restaurant has a clean, modern interior. I love the open kitchen that lets you see the chefs making your food. My family and I each ordered our own individual bowls of congee, but also shared several side dishes: fried cruller, fried dough stick wrapped in rice roll, and sticky rice dumpling with sweet soy sauce. I got the minced beef congee. The beef was tender and fresh tasting. The congee had a deep savory flavor and was piping hot. It was perfect to dip the fried cruller and dough stick/rice roll in! The cruller was crunchy and, when dipped in the congee, provided that sweet/salty contrast that I love. The dough stick in the rice roll was also good. There was a contrast here, too: soft on the outside and crunchy on the inside. The rice dumpling was okay, but I've had better. I love the mung beans inside. These dumplings usually have a piece of fatty pork belly inside. Here, it was literally all fat and no meat...that was disappointing. The flavor of the rice dumpling overall was pretty good. This is a great place to come for congee and snacks!

Yelp
This place gets busy, make sure you go early to grab seats. With indoor dine in capacity cutting down to 50%, Sam's Congee Delight do their parts on keeping everyone within safe distance and following public health guidelines. The food is still the same delicious taste from when they were at their original location. Service is as friendly as can be at a fast turn around Resturant - not that you'd feel rushed to finish your means and get out of there, but I have no complains about their customer service. I love their gold and silver egg congee. You get plenty of the salty egg and thousand year old egg. Love the sweet fried dough, and the chow meen
