The 19 Best Restaurants In Calistoga

"Part of the historic Brannan Country Inn, this spot is away from the busyness of Lincoln Avenue and has a great garden patio with excellent coffee and baked goods. It’s exactly the type of place where you come to slow down, appreciate the surrounding trees, and sip your matcha over homemade quiches and frittatas. We also love it for a simple lunch, with options like the everything avocado toast and warm roast beef and mozzarella sandwiches served with a chewy chocolate chip cookie.  " - christina julian

Google
We had breakfast- twice because it was so good. Coffee very delicious as well and the team behind the desk was very friendly.

Google
We started our day off at Sam's with a coffee and a sandwich. Both were amazing! The grounds around the cafe are immaculate and very relaxing. Don't even think about it any longer, go to Sam's. You won't regret it!

Google
Everything was superb. Great food, great coffee, great atmosphere. We were on a quick road trip and luckily found this place on our way down.

Google
Great spot for a quick meal and great coffee in Calistoga! My wife and I each ordered the Avocado Toast for breakfast while she ordered a cold brew coffee and I decided to try the Pistachio Latte. The Avocado Toast was delicious and filling, worth every cent. The special latte had a great taste of pistachio without being overpowering in flavor or tasting too artificial. The staff is very friendly at this establishment! They are quick witted and just pleasant human beings. As for the space, it’s quite special, feeling “homey” without too much clutter. There’s ample outdoor seating, so on a beautiful morning, you’re able to enjoy your breakfast and take in your surroundings.

Google
This was a beautiful spot. We ordered our food ahead of time for pickup. They had everything bagged and ready. We had extra time, so we were able to sit outside and enjoy our meals. I had a Caesar salad with chicken and coffee.

Stephanie Gates

Google
Super cute coffee shop with lots of unique options for food and drinks. They have a great outside patio and small indoor seating. My latte was delicious and I look forward to visiting again whenever we come to Calistoga.

Google
Love the coffee here and their food options are great. Just be aware there are often huge tourist groups who show up, more than other coffee shops in town I’ve noticed, so don’t come here if you’re in a hurry, especially in the morning…I often wait 10-15 min or longer just to order. Just fyi!

Google
Adorable lunch spot! Other lunch spots around had long waits but Sam's is off the main road and was super quiet. We really enjoyed the sandwiches, the bread was delicious. There's a full general store with snacks, coffee, drinks and wine. They have very cute and quaint outdoor seating (even have fire pits!) and really nice historic architecture. Would highly recommend

Yelp
Had breakfast here on our recent trip and loved the food, ambiance and local vibe. It's a grab & go place where you order from the counter. We also loved the tucked away location one block from Main Street. What we had: Coffee - delicious Overnight Oats Croissant Egg salad Fruit Simple, healthy, delicious! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Stopped by Sam's General Store for breakfast and really enjoyed the experience. I had the quiche and my friend had the avocado toast-both were delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. However, too many sesame seeds on both. But You can tell they use quality ingredients. The ambiance is what really stood out -- charming, cozy, and thoughtfully put together. Whether you're sitting inside or out on the patio, it's a lovely spot to start the morning. That said, it's definitely on the pricey side. You're paying a bit of a premium, especially for breakfast, but the overall atmosphere and food make it feel (mostly) worth it. A great little stop if you're in the area and don't mind splurging a bit for a laid-back, elevated breakfast.

Yelp
Very cute and local coffee spot near my hotel, it's attached to a boutique hotel! They have beautiful indoor and mostly outdoor seating. This was my daily stop for coffee and a quick breakfast during my visit. I tried the lavender vanilla latte and the vanilla lavender cold brew. Both were delicious and not too sweet, both of them were iced since it was hot outside. I wanted to try the breakfast empanada but the they were sold out so I had the breakfast sandwich which was pretty good, the bread was a little hard from toasting but the bacon and egg had really good flavor...I also tried a regular croissant it was simple, buttery and delicious. Great spot with even better coffee!

Suraj P.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick coffee after getting into Calistoga, definitely need to get there early if you want any of the pastries. It was a holiday weekend and they had already sold out of most things by the time we arrived, but they had a couple items which we really wanted to try. They have multiple outdoor areas which are super nice to enjoy your drinks. Worth checking out if you can get some tasty treats.

Yelp
So happy to find this sweet coffee & deli off the main road in Calistoga. The outdoor seating is lovely and the inside is charming. The staff were quite nice and I loved the Matcha-Cha-Cha latte! The croissant was huge, flaky & tasty.

Yelp
I was staying in the area at a spot with no breakfast so I drove over for a very early breakfast and to read for a bit. I had dreams of sitting outside by a fire pit and watching the sunrise but it was simply too cold to do that lol. The staff inside was very friendly and I started with a chai latte and a breakfast sandwich and found a cozy corner to read in. There was a pretty steady stream of traffic coming in after that, I'm assuming both folks staying on property and others like me looking for a quick bite to eat. On the way out, I grabbed one of their juices and an almond croissant. The green juice was really good, the almond croissant left a bit to be desired. I would return!

Yelp
Perfect place to grab a sandwich and coffee before heading over to the geyser! The pesto sandwich was tasty and came with a free cookie. Really enjoyed the iced tea. Eating there would also probably be cute, they have an adorable patio. Food came out fast and was reasonably priced (iced tea was maybe a little on the overpriced side)

Yelp
Came here on a very busy morning Sunday around 10am and the line was out the door and slow moving. There is an option to order online but it still took 30 mins to get our order. I wanted to leave. The coffee is a bit better than the one across the street and La Palmerie lounge which is where we stayed. But the wait was excruciating that day. I understand it was a three day weekend with limited options for everyone in the small town. But i wonder if it's possible to add more people to staff during these busy times as it makes me not want to go back. The coffee roast taste more on the burnt side and i got the oatmilk wildflower honey latte and it was not that sweet at all, overall a good coffee.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant. Very modern decor and clean. Service was quick and they were polite. We ordered the matcha strawberry foam tea, vanilla latte, breakfast sandwich and avocado toast. Everything tasted really good. Highly recommend stopping here for a quick breakfast.

Yelp
The CBD latte was good--smooth and not too sweet, just how I like it. We went very early in the morning, so the atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, with a sign reminding visitors to keep the volume down since people in the area are still sleeping. That quiet, paired with the sound of birds chirping, made for a relaxing start to the day. Overall, a pleasant experience--would come again for the vibe, though nothing particularly extraordinary stood out.

Yelp
We were in town for a wedding and was looking for good coffee and breakfast. We liked the nice outdoor seating and gave the place a try. We were so disappointed with the quality of food and coffee. My breakfast sandwich was mostly bread with very dry(old?) egg and one dry bacon. It was bad. My husband got avocado sandwich which had a thin layer of avocado with just a hard boiled egg. Coffee wasn't very good either. Could be a great spot if food and coffee were better. Giving stars only because the outdoor area was pleasant.

Yelp
We had a recent stay in Calistoga and came here both mornings for breakfast. The building is quite cute, housed in a cottage. Be prepared to wait however. We tried a few different food items. We were big fans of their breakfast sandwich. The ciabatta is light and airy, and goes pleasantly with the egg and bacon. Their pastries are decent, not the best but it gets the job done. I also tried the mighty matcha iced latte. This was pretty solid, but could benefit from a stronger matcha flavor. The sweetness covered up some of the bitter notes from the tea. Overall, this is a solid place for breakfast. There's a few small tables inside, and lots of outdoor seating (weather permitting). Definitely worth checking out if you're looking for a breakfast spot though!
google avatar

Alejandra B.

Yelp
This place is super cute! I love the outdoor seating area. Even if it was raining today, it was still really nice to sit out there and drink our coffees. The service was great, both of the employees who helped us out were very friendly. I really enjoyed my coffee, and MAN was that danish and the turkey pesto sandwich hella bomb
google avatar

Yelp
Service and coffee was yummy. I went on a cold rainy day and it was perfect vibe. It's a really beautiful, cute cafe.
google avatar

Neo Naomi T.

Yelp
What a cute vibe! I'm here for a pit stop but next time, I would love to sit outside leisurely or work inside at one of the tables. The food assortment is solid for breakfast, lunch, or snack. The Prosciutto Cheddar Quiche and Sam's Golden Latte were just what I needed before my drive. Such a gem! Just be prepared for street parking.

Yelp
Cute cafe on the east side of Calistoga. A little walk past Dr Wilkinson spa is a small, modern cafe. Sam's general store had great coffee and good breakfast foods. Got the frittata and avocado toast which were well made and the perfect compliment to the iced lattes my party ordered. Food and drinks came out quickly and it was nice to hang out on the yard/porch area before starting the day. Staff is kind and very helpful. Highly recommend if you're in Calistoga!

Yelp
This nice little cafe is nestled in a quiet street next to Brannan Cottage Inn. It will be easier to find the parking if you coming from the Grant/Wappo intersection. We had Avocado Toast w/ bacon bits and Roast Beef sandwich. The freshly made drinks are expensive, but what the hack. The Arnold Palmer and Lemonade were added to feast. After ordering, you can choose to dine inside or outside. The outdoor seatings are wonderful if you want to avoid the burger smell and don't mind the warm Calistoga weather. The waiter brought out the foods to our table. It didn't take long for us to gobble up them all. I almost missed the photo shot of the Roast Beef. But they were very tasty. Restroom is clean and neat. Will stop by this place next time if we are in town again.

Yelp
A small and charming sandwich, pastry, coffee shop with a limited selection of excellent pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. This was the Calistoga, California location. The St Helena location may be larger. Service was prompt and cordial.
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Sandwich was freshly made and tasty. The coffee looks well prepared and a beautiful area outside to sit. Ok so the water bottle is 3.94$ including tax. The sandwich was bite size so expect to pay for the atmosphere. The interior is tight so be careful opening the door and exiting different doors. Attentive service.
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
It was nice, cute and tucked away in a residential area. It was a good find. Their bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich was wonderful. My husband loved the avocado toast.
google avatar

Robert T.

Yelp
Location is part of a boutique hotel, and had its own entrance. It was hopping! Unique coffees we had the empanada, which was outstanding.

Yelp
We recently visited Calistoga and popped into Sam's General Store since it was near where we were staying. It's a cute, small shop with a few tables inside (lots outside but it was quite chilly that day). They seemed a bit short staffed for a Saturday morning since there was only one person working and the line was out the door. We loved the breakfast sandwich and the pastries were solid. The latte was great too. The second day we ordered ahead of time online but there was still a bit of a wait so make sure you plan ahead!
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
quaint and cute little coffee shop in calistoga located on the cutest street! there's a big outdoor seating area for you to enjoy your coffee from as well. i ordered the (secret menu) seasonal peachy greens, which is matcha plus peach syrup. this was pretty good! not my favorite matcha drink ever, but definitely a fun, summer twist to a beloved classic. the white chocolate mocha drink was DELICIOUS!! i'm not even a fan of coffee or white chocolate, but Sam worked his magic and beautifully crafted the 2 flavors to perfection. the bakery quiches were also AMAZING!!!! so simple but will leave you wanting more. service is quick and store is clean and cute! what more can you ask for?
google avatar

Marty P.

Yelp
Quick fresh delicious sandwiches! Fun and friendly staff plenty of seating outdoor outdoors a few tables indoors great coffee, too !

Yelp
Calistoga, ca. The latte I ordered was delicious. The coffee bean they use is full bodied and rich. It was just strong enough to not taste milky. I typically like an even stronger mix but the flavor here got my attention immediately. I prefer a ceramic cup which would have perfected the latte. I liked how the barista tamped the grind into the filter, she defiantly put her weight into it. I had a tiny frittata that was ok, mostly egg taste. The tiny quiche was better, at least it had some cheese in there. Neither selection was special but I needed something for breakfast and it fulfilled that obligation. The avocado toast is also not special when compared to that offered elsewhere. The avocado is mashed and only lightly seasoned so adding a good tasting piece of bacon on top helped with the palatability.
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
Drinking a most delicious mocha. Highly recommend coming here for the coffee. My wife and I have been here a few times now and love sitting inside while we enjoy or drinks.

Leslie A L.

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice, cozy, small, but the selection of breakfast & lunch was not what I expected. I did have a wonderful NY bagel with avocado spread though! This would have likely been a better experience in warmer weather. Maybe we were expecting too much for the time of year?

Yelp
cute cafe in calistoga with a nice patio and bright yellow coke scheme. we ordered the peach matcha which was amazing and refreshing and the geapefruit colds brew which was...interesting. the quiches were amazing which the staff gave to us toasted. staff was super helpful in giving recommendations.

Yelp
Just needed a quick pick me up and did not have time for a Sam's Social Club for a big brunch. So went over to Sm's General store on a cold day. Cute little spot for coffee, some sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches and frittatas. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Located across the street from Sam's Social. Ordered a coffee and a small frittata and sat outside. All the seats inside were taken. There is a cute little cottage next door that looks like an inn and would be a great little romantic place to stay for a weekend of wine tasting.
google avatar

Anja L.

Yelp
Great ambiance and perfect covered outside area with tables and chairs for food. I had the everything tart with spinach and ricotta with a hazelnut latte. Yum!! Unfortunately I dropped half of the little goodie before even taking a bite because of my fluffy partner so... I fortified that morning with an order of avo toast with bacon. Please get this - you will not regret it. One small feedback for our new found manager friend (Nicole) - keep it up!! Next time I may stay here too because the cottages here are just adorable!

Yelp
Food - 4 Service - 2 Value - 3 I came here on my recent trip to Calistoga, and nearly missed the place because there isn't really a great sign that let's you know it's Sam's General Store that you can see from the street. I placed my order online and got the Mighty Matcha Iced Latte and a Turkey Pesto Sandwich. When I arrived, there were 2 workers behind the counter and I let them know I was there for online pickup and that my order was ready. However, instead of just giving me my order, instead they let me know that they would help me in a few minutes -- but then they were just standing around as I waited. I thought maybe my order wasn't ready after all...but after about 10 minutes one of them finally decided to help me and they pulled my matcha from a refrigerator where it had been waiting since before I arrived and then there was box of food that they handed me which I had noticed was also there already at the moment I had initially arrived. The food and drink were quite good, but the experience of waiting for no apparent reason was frustrating and certainly made the food less enjoyable for me.
google avatar

Shaun M.

Yelp
Ordered bacon avacado everything toast. Out of toast, okay no biggie, I will go with a bacon avacado bagel. Got it and the bagel was ice cold, not toasted and they didn't even put the bacon on it. Also could have seasoned the avacado with a little salt or something. Service otherwise was good. But won't be back.

Yelp
After a much needed spa day, the fiancé and I were in desperate need of some food! Lo and behold we found Sam's! Sam's is a cute shop with delicious bites to eat. We grabbed a sandwich, a quiche, and a couple of lattes. They were absolutely delicious! Even when it was cold and foggy out, we opted to eat on the patio on the deck (they also have a nice outdoor area off the deck). We devoured our little brunch and sipped our lattes until they were gone. We didn't want to leave! The barista was friendly and even brought us our items. Loved the history of the store! We'll be stopping here every time we're on our way back from a spa day!
google avatar

Candace L.

Yelp
Delish coffees, warm fire place, friendly service! Made for the perfect spot to dip into on a cool, rainy afternoon to enjoy a latte after 3p when most all other coffee options have closed. They offered a ton of great options including a cbd honey latte with bed pollen and several other fun holiday drinks. I'd highly recommend stopping in, also loved seeing all of the Calistoga specific wine selection offerings they had. Very lovely space.
google avatar

Emerson Y.

Yelp
Sandwiches and coffee are surprisingly good! I would skip the empanada next time. Ambiance is really nice, indoor seating is slightly limited but outdoor seating is plentiful and beautiful. Mostly self serve but the employees at the register were nice enough to bring our food outside to us when we were waiting. Overall a solid spot that I'd recommend :)

A.V. A.

Yelp
Very cute coffee shop, nice ambiance, good food and coffee. I would give it 4 stars but I just couldn't with how 1 worker was absolutely rude. He is on the shorter side with a mustache, I believe one of the baristas. He brought my coffees outside and basically just set it on the table and walked away after I said thank you. No acknowledgment, no your welcome, just slammed it on the table and walked away. For being such a cute and quaint coffee place you would expect a more friendlier vibe from all the workers. Please teach him proper customer service or hire people who make people want to come back because of their friendly attitude.
google avatar

Cathy S.

Yelp
Love this place! So cute!! Lots of seating outside and the coffee and avocado toast was so good! Will return next time I visit Calistoga.
google avatar

Sara S.

Yelp
This is a lovely place yellow house and yellow chairs The cash register lady was really nice, she was super accommodating to our questions and needs and communicated with the kitchen for us. She also made small talk about thanksgiving and was all around friendly. The sandwiches we had and the coffee cake were pretty good. If i could be a regular i would come here for coffee all the time. They had pretty photos of espresso drinks - i didnt have one because i had already had coffee but i missed it!
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
Hidden gem on a side street that preserved its historical heritage. Like everything else in the area its is not cheap, but the avocado toast was worth the ransome. Everything avacado toast with bacon was one of the best I ever had. The toast itself was perfect: crispy flaky exterior while the inside was warm & fluffy. The fatty crispy bacon gave it a good contrast. Lavender latte was very good. Inside dining was very cozy with fire place & 5 tiny tables that should accomodate 10 guests. There were plenty of outdoor tables & chairs.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
This is now my favorite place to grab a quick coffee and bakery item in the Napa Valley area. The customer service is so much better than the more popular bakeries in the area. Not only is it a unique location, but it's also a comfortable one. You could spend a lot of time in here sipping your coffee in front of the fireplace. The mocha is the best one I've tried in a very long time. The bakery items we tried were also very good. I just wish we had come here in lieu of other spots for breakfast this time around. At least I know where to go next time we are in town.
google avatar

Lynn C.

Yelp
I love Sam's outdoor ambiance. It's one of those cafes that you can just sit there the whole day and relax and enjoy the outdoors while sipping on a great cup of coffee. We had lunch before coming to Sam's I was hoping to try some of their pastries and food but was too full. We enjoyed our time at Sam's, looking forward to trying it when we return again to Calistoga.
google avatar

Matthew T.

Yelp
This was my first time here. It took a long time to get two coffees. But it wasn't the staff. This place has a local charm and all the folks on line had one or more stories to share and questions to ask the girl behind the counter. She was extremely polite and attentive to each customer in turn. Thus the long wait. My wife got a Bee Pollen Latte. She loved it. I got a drip black coffee. It was very good. The selection of breakfast treats looked so incredibly tempting, it was hard to not get something. The pastries and egg frittatas looked so tasty. But we were going to get breakfast at Sam's Social Club, so I wanted to save my appetite. This place has nice outdoor seating and great offerings. It's slightly off the main road. But definitely worth seeking out. I'm looking forward to getting something to eat next time. One last thing, they don't know how to use the Yelp Checkin Offer for $1.50 drip coffee.

Yelp
Not even half a mile from where we stayed at the UpValley Inn is Sam's General Store, a place of breakfast and coffee happiness. The building was built in 1862 by California's first recognized millionaire, Sam Brannan, who made his fortune from the California Gold Rush and founded the town of Calistoga. Sam's General Store is a cool-looking building with outdoor seating in the courtyard, excellent coffee beverages, and a killer avocado toast breakfast dish. Given the sleepy, laid-back vibes of Calistoga, finding parking on the street is easy unless you are within walking distance of Sam's. The building owners made sure to build the wooden-plank deck flooring around the large tree that has grown on the property for centuries. The hip and clean interior produce great morning vibes as you wait to give your order for whatever beverage you seek from their menu and any quick-to-prepare or ready-to-go breakfast items. Their cafe americano gave me the pep I needed to start my day of wine tasting. They have flaky and buttery croissants, which I enjoyed immensely. I absolutely loved the Everything Avocado Toast with Bacon (everything bagel seasoning on mashed avocado). The bacon was luscious and magical, while the mashed avocado was delectable. Additionally, Sam's offers an excellent array of danishes, muffins, quiches, and sandwiches in the glass display on the front counter. The tall black shelving houses various wine bottles, snacks, yin yams, and swags like wine glasses. An open beverage refrigerator by the side door to the courtyard offers some beer and hard seltzer options like Bee Knee's by Monkey Wrench, sodas, juice, salads, puddings, and overnight oats. Sam's is a must-visit if you're visiting Calistoga for a couple of days due to its savory avocado toast, great coffee, and all-around chill vibes.

Yelp
Had the best coffee experience, Their service was so amazing thank you ladies for your recommendations. Food was delicious. very cozy. Will definitely come back. Thank you

Yelp
The food was so good & the service was kind. The ambiance & environment was so relaxing & the fountain was nice to hear while eating in the cute eating area.

Yelp
Good coffee and pastries. The space is very comfortable and the out seating is shaded from the Calistoga heat.

Christine D.

Yelp
I came for a gluten free sandwich because I have Celiac. They charged $6 for the gluten free bread, making my chicken pesto $18.xx!! To take advantage of a group of people who have either a disease or sensitivity that compromises their health is disgusting. Charging a few extra bucks because the bread is a little more expense is one thing - $6 for two slices is a whole other. The Sandwich - pretty good with the pesto and arugula. A bit skimpy on the turkey. The staff - incredibly friendly and thus the 3 stars for the lovely staff. The atmosphere -very cute and charming.

Yelp
The store is part of a boutique hotel that offers cottages across the street from Indian Springs. The landscaping and architecture are stunning along with the ambiance that they've created with the outdoor space. The food is almost a disappointment given the setting - it's good, just unremarkable which is a shame.
