On Sunday 2/19/23, I suggested this establishment for my sisters birthday breakfast. We arrived at 1040am. There were NO other patrons there. None. I was told that normally parties of 4 or more (my party had 6 at the time, ended up being 8 total) needed to call ahead for a reservation, but this time they would make an exception (no patrons were there and no one with a party that large came in the entire time I was there, but ok). I was also advised that an 18% gratuity would be added to the bill ( no biggie, pretty standard for parties over 4), and that only one form of payment could be made, no separate checks (works for me). Devon was our waiter, and bless his heart. I think he was the only waiter there, so we were understanding, however throughout our dining experience he forgot to bring a pancake that was part of an order, and he forgot to bring a complete order of turkey bacon, turkey sausage, and eggs. Again, he was bustling, so we didn't make a big deal of it, but it wasnt the best service. We had to get up and ask for several items that took too long to arrive (a box, butter, water, etc). Note, my sister who ordered the turkey bacon, turkey sausage and eggs, DID NOT EAT! At some point he realized it, but we were like no big deal. My friend ordered an omelette and hash browns and when his dish was brought out, it was an or omelette and French fries. He was told "we are out of hashbrowns so we substituted it with fries." Okkkkkk, I guess fries will do since an option was not given. Again, at this point, no one is tripping. The catfish was good, the grits were good, they gave my sister a complimentary mimosa for her bday. My husband asked for over easy eggs, but they were well cooked, and my sister didn't care for the shrimp and grits, and never got a meal in place of it. Ok, we still rolling with the vibe.
Then comes checkout....... sidebar: I came here about a month ago, and this same lady had a nasty attitude that time, but I let it go and went on about my business, but not this time. This time I went to the register to check out, the woman is light skinned, had on a white top and had blonde braids. She asks if I have a call in order, I tell her I'm here to pay the bill for the party in the corner. She then asks Devon "is everything on here? They were here for 2 hours, dang." and then proceeds to give me the total (yes we were there for 2 hours, this man moved like a turtle and it's a party of 8)! I ask to see the check (to check for accuracy, make sure we didn't get charged for stuff we did not get) and she says "yeah, you can get it after you pay, this copy is for me, everything is right on it." I advise her I'll pay when I see the check ( because I too can look and make sure everything is right). She hands me the check and says "that's my copy, I need it back." I tell her that's fine, I'll give it back when I ensure it's accurate. She stood there with her hand out the entire time I looked over the bill. She then says, "the lady told you it was 18% gratuity, but it's actually 22%, also I know she told you that parties over 8 need a reservation next time." Listen, It was my sisters birthday, so I was NOT going there with this woman. The bill was accurate and included a 15% service charge, which I took to mean the gratuity, so I swiped my card and hit skip when the tip part came, because I was told gratuity would be ADDED to the bill. She says "you pressed skip, you need to add the gratuity!" I said I know I pressed skip because the gratuity was on the bill. She responds "no, that is a service charge, that's added to everyone's bill, you still need to add the tip!" So, what is the service charge for? I was never informed of that, so there's a 15% service charge, PLUS a 22% gratuity charge (mind you, where do they do 22% at??) when I was told it was an 18% gratuity charge that would be added? In addition, like I said, the service was subpar and we were trying to cut y'all a break, and now you really sitting here talking to me crazy with a nasty attitude? Now you get NOTHING, do what you need to do with the service charge. Let me be clear and put this on the record, EYE ALWAYS TIP 21% PLUS SOME WHEN THE SERVICE IS EXCEPTIONAL! I am not a person who does not tip, however, the way she came at me, whew, she cost Devon every cent of his tip on that day the Lord made.
After the fact my husband and sister told me when we were walking out she ran over to the table to see if cash was left for a tip, and then said out loud "WHAT?? She didnt leave no tip at all, I can't believe this!" NOPE, sure didn't! And because my husband and sister know me....they didn't tell me this until after we left!
The take away is this: Food was good, Waitstaff was slow and forgetful, check out service was HORRIBLE, and because of that I will not be back!
