The ramen and soba both had a good amount of noodles and were filling. The flan was nice, not super sweet with strong cha flavor. Friendly staff. There were some people hanging out for quite a while and they didn’t rush anyone out.

Fantastic, authentic ramen spot. After trying samurai mama (incredible!) I found that papa is their sister shop. The names are incredibly accurate; papa is more of a traditional, classical, ma and pa feel; mama is more of a rustic upscaled vibe, and the ramen is slightly lighter. Heavier broth is in the tanban ramen, though flavorful and great ratio of noddles to soup to additions. The pork was well prepared. You can tell they take pride in their service and food. No MSG meant my stomach was not on fire of inflammation and swelling. I had leftovers as well - I only got the ramen soup . I will absolutely be coming back and referring to others!

Took my son here for dinner. Food did not disappoint 😋. The staff were so amazing, the drinks were absolutely perfect. Great date spot, theirs also and outdoor area with privacy 😀. I had the calamari salad and the salmon bento, and my son had the shrimp shumai and Tonbara Pork Cloudy Soup Ramen. This place 10/10

Thoroughly enjoyed my spicy dandan ramen at Samurai Papa last night. Well worth a visit— the vibes and service are great.

Food and place is good. What I didn’t like was when I asked for WiFi they told me was only for restaurant management ! WiFi is like water people work remotely all the time

I always look forward to eating here when I visit NY. Their Ramen is amazing!!! Service is excellent too. Love it!!!

A hidden gem in the area loved the Hojicha Flan and Tomato Ramen.

The backyard outdoor seating area is very simple but I enjoyed sitting in natural light (we weren’t in one of the huts). Waitress was very nice and gave good food suggestions. Good prices for high quality Japanese food!

I had a great dinner here. Ordered 3 appetizers: Brussels sprouts, karage & veggie gyoza. Brussel sprouts were really good! I thought the karage lacked in flavor and taste and needed a sauce. The gyoza I didn't like either but my date enjoyed. We also ordered two canned alcoholic drinks. Very light and refreshing both were $8. The ramen was sooo good . Both broths were flavorful and filling. The sorbet was the perfect after dinner treat . I only wish it was bigger for the price. It came stuffed in a lemon which was cute but it was legit like 1 scoop of sorbet. Overall I recommend if you're out on a cold night and looking for a hotel meal

Food was delicious and rich in flavor! Service was fast and waiter was extremely friendly and easygoing! Sat my big group of 6 a table of 4 and went out of her way to grabbing us chairs, checking in to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our time. Overall lovely neighborly experience! Will come again!

I sat at the counter with a friend and we had such a nice experience! It's a really cute little spot and the service was great. I got a vegetarian ramen and it was perfectly spicy and delicious. Definitely worth braving the cold and the snow!

I should've taken the "No Msg" sign to be a warning, because msg left and took all the flavor along with it. I occasionally make broth at home and know that flavor can be built with naturally occuring msg from both vegetable and meat, but somehow these flavors were absent here. All the more disappointing after waiting for a long time for a seat at this restaurant, which was packed on the cold night I visited. Chicken paitan is meant to be a light, thin soup for sure, but it's kind of surprising to have no umami in a soup made with meat. No amount of soy sauce I could add to the bowl would improve it. The egg salad was advertised as a special for the evening but was similarly bland, and topped with wonton crisps that I found a curious addition, particularly since there were only 5 of these chips. I don't think msg should be demonized and it's added to food for a reason.

Great neighborhood ramen stop with delicious seasonal menu and a stocked bar! We ordered karaage and a lychee cocktail (forgot to take a photo ) The Karaage was perfectly crispy and not too thickly breaded. I am not a big drinker but I enjoyed the cocktail because it was refreshing. I got the abura seasonal summer chilled ramen sooooo good. The texture of the chilled noodles combined with the flavorful broth really completed the meal. My bf got the signature tonbara ramen and he really liked it. The staff was super sweet too. Overall 10/10 would go back! Aesthetic: Cute traditional style ramen counter with more seating in the back outdoors.

A and H raves about this place and finally came here to meet A up and the broth is super gross. I came here awhile back, but I am not sure what I wrote in my initial review, since it has not disappeared. All I remembered is I didn't finish this ramen at all. I never came back. Not sure if it was an off day or what, but it was disgusting.

The thrill of dining in Bed-Stuy is that your visual and taste palette will be honed for 2030, from your choice of sake (chilled), color of sea salt (Icelandic) and seats (e.g. auction acquired Dali bar stools)

Came here on a whim after visiting Samurai Mama. My bad for not checking the menu first but I thought they'd have udon as well. Anyway, was craving something on the lighter side, so I opted for the cold niku soba. Definitely hit the spot. The beef was just a tad bit too tough, but overall very good. The tsuyu was refreshing.

While I was wandering Bed-stuy and craving ramen, I noticed this place had good reviews and even better pictures. So, I decided to give it a shot. Food: 5/5 I love ramen, so I have a pretty high standard. You will not be disappointed. My friend and I ordered drinks, pork buns, atsuage, tori nanban soba (sweet and sour chicken soba), tonbara ramen (cloudy pork broth), and dessert (chocolate and hoji puddings). Our total damage was ~$85, which is amazing for so much food. My favorites items were: 1. Tonbara Ramen: a creamy pork ramen with perfectly cooked noodles and a nice piece of charsu. 2. Atsuage: fried tofu garnished with a soy garlic paste, scallions, and bonito flakes. Service: 5/5 We got there early and sat at the bar. They were very patient in explaining the items they offer and helping us select our final entrées. Constantly kept our water glasses filled and amazing music pumping. It was a great experience. All in all, a great place to have shoyu ramen. As they take no reservations, it's first come first serve. But, they are incredibly attentive and make the experience great for ramen lover and novices.

Pickup was easy and they were incredibly nice. You could tell they enjoy doing what they do. My chicken ramen was delicious and healing.

Went back for their delicious shrimp buns . And tomato vegan ramen both was delicious but I really enjoyed the shrimp buns soft from the buns and crispy from the fried shrimp and crunchy from the cabbage and that nice garlic aoli delicious . And the woman that was there yesterday was just so sweet and the music was banging . I enjoyed my time here will def be back

BEST ramen place in Bestuy! I love the Dan dan spicy ramen and shumai. Their sale collection is top notch and the ambiance was so quaint. Can't recommend this place enough.

Visited here on a slow weekend with my daughter after playing in Brooklyn. the host Kenta-san was extremely kind and accommodating - finding my daughter and I a good spot to sit, to ordering, to fixing some issues with the water glasses, etc. - so I would say service is great. I had the cold soba, which I'm a big fan of. It is hard to find good places to have it so was satisfied. Even my daughter stole plenty from me and gave it a thumbs-up. My daughter loves plain baos so we got enough for her (only downside is they charged the same $ for the plain bao vs the meaty sandwich :( but that's okay, I'm happy my daughter got what she wanted.) I would recommend this for someone who is in the area and needs a nice quick meal somewhere quiet and cozy. I'd come here again. The only challenge is parking in the area.

It's kind of difficult to tell from the outside, but Samurai Papa is a very tiny place. They specialize in ramen, but serve soba, bento, and rice bowls as well. However, since this is a self-described ramen bar, I already knew what I'd be getting. It's nice to see that Samurai Papa offers vegan ramen on their menu; while catering to alternative diets is becoming more common, finding explicitly vegan ramen is still a rarity, at least in my experience. The restaurant was fairly busy for a weekday evening, but my friends and I had a reservation, so it wasn't a problem. We considered ordering an appetizer, but ultimately decided not to, which was a good call because there was plenty of ramen to go around - I barely managed to finish mine. The vegan ramen's stock contains onion, ginger, enoki mushroom, garlic, daikon radish, eggplant, butternut squash, grapeseed oil, and sesame oil. Toppings include avocado, mixed vegetables, kikurage mushroom, eggplant, and corn. The ramen was super flavorful, not too salty, and comforting on a chilly night. Even for those who aren't vegans or vegetarians, it's a fantastic option. I'm definitely interested in going back for the tomato vegan ramen, which I've also read great things about.

My quest for the best vegan ramen continues. Found this place while craving ramen in one cold rainy day. The place was a little small, bar seating only. So I was sitting closer to Bae, which I have no problems with at all. Hehe We got the vegan ramen and some veggie dumplings as starters. The ramen was not bad. Not excellent but decent. They give you extra broth/hot water (not really sure what it was) to add to the ramen if you want more soup or to change consistency maybe? First time having a ramen with avocado. The avocado added a nice texture to the ramen. I also really liked sauce that they used for the dumplings. Actually added little bit of it to my ramen. The server was ok. Tried to get their attention but keep missing us for some reason. Not very approachable.

The exterior is unassuming enough that I walked by it and had to turn around and come back, while the interior is a bar with maybe a dozen seats and no more. The food is Japanese, but unusually vegan-friendly. They also do lunch until 4:30 and are near a train stop, which are collectively why I picked them. The lunch special I ordered contained some very freshly grilled dumplings and a choice of noodles. The tomato ramen came with a cup of extra broth that I assume was the basic non-tomato broth; if so I'm glad I ordered as I did because the tomato was much more flavorful. Avocado, seaweed, and some sort of greens highlighted the toppings. It's a weird mix: tomato, corn, and avocado are all American plants, but I'm no Japanese traditionalist, and the mix of tastes and textures here worked for me. There seemed to be a lot of neighborhood regulars, and the oddly half-hearted service I got made me cognizant that I was not one of them. Then again, if I lived here, maybe I would be.

I get the four star ratings here, but for my bang for the buck I have to go 5 for a number of reasons. First, making a vegan ramen that's as good as bone broth based ramens can't be simple, and what I had today was pretty spectacular, yet basic and simple. Scallions, corn, avocado, seaweed and more I'm likely not identifying. The noodles perfectly cooked, not over, not under. Hot and steamy, sublime. No need to kill it with too much of something designed to snap your head back. Simple, beautifully prepared food. And for the record, I'm a sort-of vegan/vegetarian except when the right opportunity presents itself. If I'm going to dine on the severed flesh of dead animals, it better be really be good. The individual waiting on me couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating and willing to strike up a conversation with a traveler. A Sapporo on tap for lunch called. I answered, and enjoyed the call. Honestly, probably my first vegan ramen though I've tried many in the this city and other places around the planet. What they're doing here works, and that's alright with me. P.S. There's a dish here called Bukkake Curry Ramen. I didn't make that up, I didn't ask, and there are a lot of other names that might be a tad more appealing. Just sayin'. YMMV.

Fun hole in the wall Izakaya in Bed Stuy. It's conveniently located near the B38 bus and Bedoford-Nostrand G train stop. I had the salmon bento. It was really tasty. the salmon was perfectly cooked and seasoned. i loved the veggies and rice. I would definitely like to go back and try the ramen and drinks sometime too when the weather is colder. Nice to have this neighborhood Japanese restaurant somewhat close by.

Overall five stars! Ramen and edamame 4.2 stars. The edamame came out super quick, but seemed a little overwell done. The vegan ramen was super good. Not my favorite ever but i will take a trip back for sure! Slurp it up. Staff 5. Very friendly and attentive! Price 5.8. Awesome prices

Best ramen in town! It was recommended to me by a group of Japanese friends, who consider it the most authentic ramen they've had since being in the US. It's a super cute, intimate spot with a great variety on the menu- including a ton of vegetarian options! They also have seasonal dishes, which are a lot of fun!

Samurai Papa is such a vibe, but you really have to lean into the experience to enjoy the atmosphere. The dimly-lit interior is dominated by an angular Japanese inspired bar. I wouldn't recommend coming here with more than three people, because seating is limited to high stool seating at the bar and the counters at the edges of the restaurant. The atmosphere was reminiscent of a divey, underground ramen shop, and I loved it. My only complaint is the music was quite loud when we last visited. The menu has some untraditional ramen options, so I ordered the spicy tan tan ramen which was served in a quirky, asymmetric bowl. The ground pork added so much flavor and richness to the mildly spicy broth. The noodles had good texture, and the add-ins were well done. I love when a soft-boiled egg is done correctly. Our server Chloe was such a cool chick, and the bar setting made it really easy to have a conversation with her. I really appreciated her thoughts on Brooklyn. I'm such a fan of this edgy ramen shop - make your way over for some unconventional ramen in an unconventional setting.

Visited on a rainy dreary day around 7:30/8pm after receiving a recommendation from an associate. The place is small and unassuming on the outside. A simple sign and large window welcomes you to a quaint authentic looking ramen shop that you'd find on some corner of Japan. We sat at the bar because there isn't much room to sit anywhere else. Was over looked several times, maybe allowing us time to skim over the menu for the 10th time, we ordered Tsukemono, Shrimp katsu buns, shoyu Tori gara Chicken Soup Ramen, Miso Tonbara Pork Cloudy Soup Ramen, and two ginger teas. The appetizers were delicious but the ramen was flavorless and unexciting. Barley eating much of the ramen, I asked the waiter if I could pack my ramen to go. He offered to do it, spilling half of the noodles on the bar top and attempting to not make eye contact with us and he tried to quickly scoop the noodles off of the bar into the container. As much hope as I had for this quaint ramen shop, there was more to be desired. It could have been a fluke and the flavors just off that night but after being handed my bar top flavored packed ramen, I wouldn't return.

Veggie gyozas and vegan tomato ramen aren't bad. There are only 12 seats so be prepared to hover.

I get takeout here a lot. The vegan ramen slaps, the tomato version doesn't really add much so stick to the regular. Good portion size and the broth is really rich and flavorful. Also love their house pickles. However, I'd steer away from the veggie bento box, it's simply sautéed veggies and rice with a few gyoza, not filling in my opinion at all. Service is very nice, and it's always chill inside when we pick up.

The standing room only is gone (replaced by maybe 8 bar seats), as is the no tipping rule. Nonetheless, there's no need to leave BedStuy for decent ramen now - and for that alone, I'm a fan. All of the ramen here is bukkake style (yes you read that right). In other words, the broth is on the thicker, denser side and you're given a cup of dashi to dilute to your palate's liking. I personally always go for the Shio. I generally find Shoyus to be overpowered by soy flavor and the curry ramen here is definitely heavy on the Japanese curry flavor. The only app I've tried here is the eggplant - flash pan fried to a perfect consistency and topped with dried shrimp, lettuce - it's a nice appetite opener. The service has always been polite, attentive and prompt imo. They also serve beer, sake and wine now - so definitely not BYOB (as some previous reviews mentioned). The space is tiny though - don't come with a group of more than 3.

Lots of great ramen options even has choices for vegans/vegetarians! Had the spicy tan tan ramen and the noodles were very fresh and bouncy. I maybe should have not chosen to sit outside eating the spicy hot ramen on one of the hottest days in New York. But the ramen was flavorful and not too dense or too salty!

5 stars for the vegan tomato ramen. They have other good vegan options too, but this soup blows everything out of the water, IMO. it's so incredibly flavorful and rich (but not heavy). The creamy tomato soup paired with the noodles, avocado, watercress, fried eggplant slices, and corn makes this dish so satisfying and comforting. Whenever I come here with a group, we all order the vegan tomato ramen. It's a small joint, so I would recommend coning during an off-hour.

Super yummy hole in the wall. Perfect for date night or solo dinner. Staff was super friendly and they had a lovely dinner playlist in the background. Vegetable Gyoza was flavorful and this portion was perfect! Will be back

Delicious ramen, cozy little spot. I live close, so I've been many times and it's always good.

First things first. There was only one chair open in this tiny ramen spot and there was remains of an order of a half eaten edamame. The barkeep didn't even clear it after she said I could sit there. She continued to organize whatever it was behind the bar while I sat here with half eaten remains in front of me....disgusting. She may have forgotten she gave me a menu because it took forever for her to come back and take my order, despite the menu being pushed away from me and clearly I wasn't looking at it anymore. I order Kariage soba. She then tells me they don't have soba....would've been nice to know that before I scanned the menu and decided on it. So I opt for vegan ramen. This place's broth is always so salty. Yeah they give you a side of clear brother to dilute the oversalted broth but who wants to eat all that frigging salt in the first place?? Ramen comes with "vegan" ramen noodles. Aka Spaghetti noodles. I HATE When ramen places use semolina pasta noodles....it's NOT ramen. This place is like the part of town, too cool for itself. Get over ya'self! It was actually one of the worst ramens I've ever had in my life. Second to cup o'noodles. Someone please open up a real ramen house and put these guys out of business.

My roommates and I LOVE this place. All of their ramen varieties are fantastic. I love the classic version, but the spicy and curry ones are great as well. One thing to note: They get very busy. Our pick up order on a Friday night took almost 40 mins longer than it should have. The wait was well worth it, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're in a rush.

Samurai papa is good if you're looking for a quick ramen fix in bed-stuy. The both is salter than most I've had but the toppings are better and the unique bowls it's served. I think we order gyoza too. It was too doughy for me, like when you're about to grab it and it's overly delicate BUT all good. Team is nice and attentive (small shop so you can't miss a body). And oh, it does get busy quickly! Music is chill.

Came here around 8 pm on a Thursday night hoping it was possible to snag a seat after the dinner rush. No such luck. The setting inside is a giant bar so you need to wait for others to leave before you can take a seat. The restaurant is small and there are about 20 ish seats. Definitely not recommended for large parties unless you are okay with splitting up into smaller groups. We had a 15 minute wait so it wasn't so bad. There was a line forming after us so it looks like this place is popular for drinks or late night bites as well. We started the night with their fried chicken. They chicken came on a bed of kale and a some sort of white sauce. The chicken was wasn't crispy but it was still tasty. I got the bukkake ramen with miso broth. Bukkake is ramen with a thicker broth almost like a curry. The dish comes with a small cup with dashi/seaweed broth if you want to thin it out and add more flavor. I personally didn't really enjoy the dish. The bukkake was thick and heavy and I just didn't like it with the thin ramen noodles. Would totally recommend to those who like ramen with thick broth but it just wasn't for me. Also the miso flavored broth just tasted a little muddled and I couldn't clearly taste the miso. It tasted like combination of a bunch of flavors but I couldn't tell which one was supposed to be the main flavor and which ones were complimenting it. My boyfriend got the beef soba cold. The broth was on the side and meant to have noodles dipped in it. The vegetables in the soba tasted fresh and crunchy. The broth was fine but didn't wow me.

Samurai Papa recently opened in Bed-Stuy and brings speedy but solid ramen to the hood. The restaurant is pretty, with high ceilings, big windows, and modern touches. It brings a brand new meaning to minimalist - there are no tables or chairs. Again. It is STANDING ROOM ONLY. I believe the intention here is to have a genuine ramen joint feel, where you order, you eat, you pay, you leave. Shooting the breeze is anathema. While this is great for turn over and short waits, it will probably discourage many people from coming. Oh well. The ramen is solid. The portion size is a little smaller than the typical ramen joints in the city, but comes with a thicker broth which you can dilute to your preference with a complimentary cup of dashi broth. The broth itself is surprisingly not overly salty and has a lot of weight - most people should still be full after an app plus their ramen. To echo previous reviewers, each element of the ramen has its own distinct flavor and is prepared on its own. The hard boiled egg has a gooey yolk, full of umami. The eggplant slices are fresh, soft, and refreshing. The pork cha siu is melt in your mouth goodness. It is a bit of a sin that you can't sit and savor it leisurely. I would have liked to try my friend's ramen, but we didn't get around to sharing. We did split a fried agedashi tofu, which was excellent and squishy but crispy. The service is minimal but quick, giving you menus, drinks, your dishes, and then leaving you alone. She didn't stay to chat or go over the menu and there are no specials that require additional explanation. There is a no tipping policy, as all the dishes are designed to include (hopefully) fair wages.

New York City was bursting with hope for summer yesterday: 80 degrees, sunny, the streets alive with people and their pups. Then something happened. The temp dropped 35 degrees. We were caught outside in tank tops and shorts. We felt like hibernating again, our dreams dashed. Waking up this morning didn't bring much more hope, but that's where Samurai Papa came in to ease the pain of weather betrayal. When my boyfriend asked if I was hungry for anything in particular, I said, "A spicy soup." So for ramen we ventured. What else is there to say? I got the spicy soup I needed. I could have kept drinking that broth all day.

I had the cloudy pork shoyu ramen. Forgot to take a picture of it, but it was a pretty standard bowl of ramen. have heard great things of their vegan ramen though, so i'd recommend trying that! The seating at the front of the restaurant is quite tight and squished. however there is outdoor seating in the back of the restaurant with heaters and closed off spaces for each table. very quiet and casual ambience

this spot is hard to miss if you walk a little too fast and aren't looking at your surroundings. they make a very good hearty bowl of miso ramen. the chasu was very tasty and had a sweet smokiness flavor and it came with so many toppings and was super filling for the price. highly recommend this spot and will come back again

Samurai Papa is very small. They have about 8-10 bar seats and a few stools along the wall (maybe 3-4 seats). They seem to do a lot of take out, but I really like to eat my ramen assembled for me (as opposed to in five take out containers) and fresh as it gets. Thankfully there was seating when I walked in on a blustery fall night. I see from the reviews that it used to be standing room only and I am very glad I ordered the Bukkake Tonbaba Ramen Cloudy a Tan Tan style ramen, which may be the name but it is escaping me now. The 'Tan Tan' was a ramen with ground pork in a stew-like sesame paste broth. The Tonababa was a more "standard" ramen. Bukkake syle means that the broth is concentrated and you can add the dashi stock as needed (I would recommend this style). Both were amazing. The broths were flavorful but not overly salty and the noodles were a perfect consistency. When I finished my bowl, I felt full but not gross. The ingredients feel clean and are executed nicely. Ramen is such a great comfort food but it can really vary in quality from place to place. Samurai Papa is one of the best and I have never been disappointed.

I used to go to the one in East wburg and it was THE BEST VEGAN ramen in Brooklyn. Seems like they moved to bedstuy and came to get my fav ramen and it was honestly not the same. The place is smaller and it has a different vibe now. It used to be so Japanese and beautiful. Now it's very hipster bedstuy style. The taste of the food was ok, not the best anymore and now they don't even give you the little sauces they used to (crushed garlic, spicy oil, not even soy sauce). I actually had to stand up from my table to ask for some kind of spicy oil and that's when they gave it to me. I am just ve eh sad, I used to really love this place. I hope they do better in the future and go back to what they used to be

Great place Came here in a rainy day to get my ramen fixing and it hit the spot! As a starter I got the pork bun which were pretty good. The pork belly had too much fat proportionally to the amount of meat and bun, but it was still good The pork belly ramen that I got with soy broth was absolutely delicious! The broth was super rich and the toppings complimented the dish beautifully with scallions, corn and mushrooms. The pork belly was soft and juicy! The portion size was on the smaller side. The place is tiny so keep that in mind. With maybe 8 spots to sit, if not less. I came here on an extremely pouring day and I waited about 20 minutes. Though its small, its intimate and cozy and I think its a great place for a date or to come with a friend. The service was quick and efficient and it seemed like they do lots of takeouts if you're not in the mood to wait, or to sit on the bar. I'd recommend this place and would definitely come back!

I discovered Samurai Papa in Williamsburg first before I realized the original location was in my neighborhood, and boy am I glad there's a Samurai Papa here!! I am forever in love with their vegan ramen. Ever since I became vegetarian, I surrendered to the fact that I might never have ramen again, because vegan ramen at restaurants that I've gone to with friends will have amazing meat ramen, but terrible vegan ramen. However, Samurai Papa had both amazing vegan AND meat ramen. Trust me, I've come here with my non-vegetarian friends and they also LOVE it. Can't speak to the meat ramen, but hands-down best vegan ramen I have ever had!! The broth is so thick and savory, unlike any vegan broth found everywhere else! This is definitely THE place for ramen in Brooklyn that's going to please both vegans and meat-eaters!
