The 18 Best Things to Do in San Diego, From Art Museum Visits to Scenic Hikes

"One of California's 14 Cultural Districts, this historic, artsy neighborhood is rooted in Mexican and Chicano cultures. The most obvious proof is Chicano Park, the neighborhood's collection of more than 80 outdoor murals painted onto the concrete girders of the Coronado Bridge. The larger-than-life portraits depict iconic cultural figures, like revolutionary Emiliano Zapata and Aztec goddesses. Many of the hip, modern businesses that have landed are still rooted in the community's culture. There's Por Vida for coffee, Border X Brewing for Mexican-inspired craft beers like a horchata brew, Salud! for street tacos that garners long (long) lines, and Simón Limón, which sells beauty and home goods. And for old-school flavor and some of the best Mexican food in San Diego, don't miss a meal at Las Cuatro Milpas, but get there early—they usually sell out by lunchtime." - Marie Tutko, Archana Ram

Barrio Logan – Neighborhood Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tell me: What’s this place all about? One of California's 14 Cultural Districts, this historic, artsy San Diego neighborhood is rooted in Mexican and Chicano cultures. The most obvious proof is Chicano Park, the neighborhood's collection of more than 80 outdoor murals painted onto the concrete girders of the Coronado Bridge. The park was named a National Historic Landmark in 2017, and features larger-than-life portraits depicting iconic cultural figures, like revolutionary Emiliano Zapata and Aztec goddesses. As you walk along the main drag of Logan Avenue, it's tough to ignore that gentrification is seeping in, but many of the hip, modern businesses that have landed are still rooted in the community's culture. There's Por Vida for coffee, Border X Brewing for Mexican-inspired craft beers like a horchata brew, Salud! for street tacos that garners long (long) lines, and Simón Limón, which sells beauty and home goods. Beyond Chicano Park, Bread & Salt is a warehouse-turned-art gallery that showcases works by local and international artists, and next door is Mujeres Brewhouse, a new Latina-owned craft brewery with an expansive patio. And for old-school flavor and some of the best Mexican food in San Diego , don't miss a meal at Las Cuatro Milpas , but get there early—they usually sell out by lunchtime. Every weekend, Logan Avenue turns into an outdoor market and art festival with Walk the Block, a new community-run event that happens Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. What’s it like being there? The vibe is low-key and convivial. And while you won't see as much foot traffic in Barrio Logan as some of San Diego's more talked-about neighborhoods like North Park or Little Italy, it's plenty walkable, especially on Logan Avenue. Who comes here? Local families with young kids, hipsters, artsy types, and taco-beer seekers unite here. Did it meet expectations? A lot of the talk about San Diego focuses on sun and surf, but Barrio Logan proves that with its unique position near the U.S.-Mexico border, the city has plenty to offer in terms of culture and community, too. So then what, or who, do you think it’s best for? Art and history lovers, as well as people who want to go off the beaten path. If you're on a time crunch, grab a coffee at Por Vida and head to Chicano Park. If you want to spend the night, check out the minimalist-cool Airbnb One Bunk Barrio." - Archana Ram

Yelp
I've seen this place many times, especially while seeing a show at the Corazon de Barrio across the street. I was always intrigued by what kind of food they had here, so I finally got to try it a couple weeks ago after doing a ceramics class nearby with a friend. This place has many variations on seafood tacos with different toppings and themes. Such a simple, yet cool concept! Their menu is about $12 for one portion of 2 tacos, but each one is pretty hearty. I thought I'd need about 3 as that's is my average consumption of fish tacos in one sitting, but honestly 2 was more than enough. We got three types - their estilo baja (with mexican coleslaw which is spicy!), de espada, and fish & chips. These were the only tacos available to us, as they ran out of their De Coco one which I heard is probably one of their most popular, and their vegan one. I also got their hibiscus tea, which was super refreshing. Each taco was unique in its own way, and was perfect for sharing between the two of us. It's a small place, so I can imagine you'd have to wait a while if it gets packed. There's indoor and outdoor seating with a table that runs along the establishment. Perfect for people watching! As for parking, only residential is available. Overall not too hard to find but could imagine it gets crowded if there's a show or a special event nearby.

Yelp
All the tacos are delicious you cant go wrong. we also ordered the tuna salad with ritz crackers. That was very good 10/10 recommend. The place is small and not too much seating available. Prices were standard for san diego. The smokey mango marg was delicious. The service was good, nothing special. I would 100% come back again.

Yelp
I was so so so freakin excited to try Fish Guts but left utterly disappointed. I showed up a few minutes after 12 and the place was almost full but I got a good seat at the counter. I asked the waitress if they had the fish sandwich back but she didn't have an answer and said it's basically still off the menu. But later I spoke with SD locals who said the waitress was wrong and the sandwich is there. So I don't know who to believe. I started with the smoked fish dip. This was fine. You can't even tell it has fish in it. Which might be fine for someone who doesn't like fish, but when you're at a fish restaurant ordering a fish dish, you want to taste the fish. This just tasted like a serrano dip because the heat from the serranos overpowered everything else. Now for the baja fish tacos. More like coleslaw tacos because there was so much spicy coleslaw on these tacos you wouldn't even know that you're eating a fish taco. The tortillas are fantastic. Actually, the tortillas are perfect. They're soft, warm, chewy, and flavorful. But the rest is a mess. The fish itself is flaky and soft but the batter was soggy and mush. And the size of the fish is like a chicken nugget compared to the tortilla. I'm not expecting a whole filet on here since these are "Street tacos" but c'mon. two bites and the fish was gone, then you're just eating tortilla and coleslaw. There is so much coleslaw that you don't taste anything else either. After talking to others, everyone said the baja tacos are not the thing to order but rather you should order the sandwich (if / when they ever bring it back) and the swordfish tacos. I don't know if I would return but right now, I wasn't fond of this spot.

Yelp
Came to Fish Guts a few weeks ago as I was craving some shrimp tacos. This place has high reviews on Yelp and I could see why. The menu is very simple which I liked, I ordered the Shrimp Tacos & Tuna Dip Appetizer that came with Ritz Crackers. Surprisingly the Tuna dip was fire, haven't tried a combination like that before. The Shrimp Tacos were delicious also, but I'll admit I've had better elsewhere. Still, the service was great and prices were fair. Overall a good lunch experience, would I go again? Maybe

Yelp
Ooooh! First time here, but definitely not the last. We've driven by Fish Guts multiple times and always noticed their long lines. So I was excited to finally try it. These are some of the BEST tacos I've ever had! We tried the estilo Baja tacos, Baja shrimp tacos, al pastor tacos and coconut shrimp tacos. Each taco had it's own distinct flavor and the jalapeño slaw on each taco was perfection! My favorite was the coconut shrimp tacos. Combining the coconut and jalapeños was a smart flavor contrast. There was a bit of a line, but it went by quickly. My only complaint was not being able to order an Arnold palmer. Very limited beverages, unless you like beer, which I don't.

Yelp
Friends took me here, said it was highly rated. The tacos here a super fresh and have good flavor but I think it's a bit overhyped. Small place so if you're not there right when it opens you'll have to wait. Even so we waited like 30 mins for food. Tacos were delicious and fresh. Love the fresh tortillas made in house. My favorite was the shrimp, and the sauce they put over it. Overall quality of the fish was good. Food: 3.5/5 Service: 3.5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Marcels foodie score: 3.7/5

Yelp
I was looking for a new place to try in San Diego. I saw people talking about this new restaurant, so I had to try it. For one it's very small. If you're having mobility issues I wouldn't come here. Seats are limited and they can only seat you once people get up to leave. It's either high top seating which accommodates about 12 at the high top table and then there's low seating that can handle approximately 10 to 12 people at a time, with seating for 2 on the front side and a total of 4 at the bar. So it's very small. The tacos were good but I was disappointed because that's all they serve. No sides no frills. They do have a dip they serve with ritz crackers. I thought the prices were high for what you get, and it took a long time for my tacos to come. They maybe should put up a sign that limits your time at the tables during busy hours. Especially because there was a long line waiting outside and it was actually cold and a little windy out. I had the De Coco, De Espado & fish & chips tacos. My favorite was the De Coco tacos. The tacos are small like street tacos so it wasn't a lot of food. They do serve wine& beer. but no alcohol in their margaritas.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious tacos that are unlike what you find at your typical taco joint. I've come here twice and had to order 3 sets of 2 tacos to get my fill. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients here and it stands out in memory even a week later.... which is why it's one of the few restaurants where I continually thought about when I'd be back. The Coco was my favorite but you can't go wrong with any of them! Service was friendly and prompt both times I came but I will warn that the place gets pretty windy given its location so I'd bring a light jacket if you plan on eating there.

Yelp
Definitely worth a trip and the wait. Yes, Fish Guts is so popular people wait in line. Today I had their mushroom taco and another michelanas. Fabulous.

Yelp
Glad we finally got to try this place. Felt it is a little overhyped. Definitely not the best fish taco in San Diego, but still really good. Tortillas are fresh and high quality. Fish is good. Tacos are small for only getting 2 for $12. Either drop it down to $9ish, or add a 3rd taco or make the pieces of fish bigger. Sitting outside was nice, but the street is busy, and lots of cars with loud exhaust made it hard to have a conversation with out pausing as drivers are trying to show off.

Yelp
If you're a fan of fresh, no-fuss seafood done exceptionally well, Fish Guts in San Diego is a must-visit. I stopped by recently and was seriously impressed by how every element of their fish tacos feels thoughtful and deliberate. The Estilo Baja taco--with its crisp Modelo beer-battered white fish, creamy chipotle aioli, and tangy slaw--was the star for me. The fish was clearly fresh, the batter light and crispy, and the handmade corn tortilla held everything together beautifully without overpowering the flavors. Overall, if you love tacos and appreciate fresh, locally sourced seafood, Fish Guts delivers big flavor in a small, unpretentious spot.

Yelp
Had their de coco tacos and they were absolutely amazing! They have the perfect balance of being crispy, but also light with flavor that was out of this world. Also tried their margaritas, which were just as great.

Yelp
What an awesome little spot. Great vibes and even better food. The Baja taco was amazing. The fish was crispy and the slaw was refreshing and spicy. The fish and chips taco had a nice little potato slaw topping the crispy fish. The coco shrimp taco was great as the shrimp was breaded perfectly and the flavor was great. The slaw used is the same as I. The Baja. What's great is the tortilla is freshly made and complements the tacos well. The place is extremely clean as well as the restroom. Service is great as our waitress was checking in on us and served us promptly. If you're in the area, stop by and at least try a taco. You'll end up ordering more. Only draw back is they do t do to go orders. (Might be a blessing in disguise as I would have over ordered!)

Yelp
This is my partner's favorite fish taco restaurant in San Diego, so I knew I had to try it one day! We came here on Saturday around 1PM and had to wait approximately 30-45 minutes before being seated. I'm not sure if this is something they do regularly, but I noticed that they seat people in groups so that everyone in that area finishes around the same time. So, even if you see empty seats, they won't seat you right away... or maybe it was just for that day since they were short staffed. We were seated at the bar stool area, where we had to share the table with eight other people. I honestly didn't mind, but having that table be a maximum of eight people instead of ten would have been better since it was quite cramped, awkward, and easy to overhear conversations. The stools were also a bit short especially for someone with my height ): Now, let's talk about the food. One important note when ordering is that you can't modify anything, so what you see on the menu is what you will get. We ended up ordering everything: Smoked Fish Dip, Estilo Baja, De Espada, De Coco, Fish & Chips, and De Hongos. Each taco plate costs $12 and comes with two tacos per plate. Our appetizer, the Smoked Fish Dip, came out first. Let's just say it was the best fish dip I've ever had. The fish tasted incredibly fresh, and the pico de gallo and lime really enhanced the flavor. There was a small amount of mayo included and it wasn't too overwhelming to the point where it masked the freshness of the fish. This dish was honestly a MUST-HAVE. As for the tacos, my ranking from favorite to least favorite is: De Espada, De Hongos, De Coco, Estilo Baja, and Fish & Chips. De Espada was grilled and very juicy, flavorful, and fresh. De Hongos was unique - the mushrooms absorbed a ton of flavor and were cooked to perfection. De Coco and Estilo Baja were okay for me; the main difference between the two were the seafood - fish versus shrimp. The flavors and toppings were almost identical, and I didn't love how the aioli overpowered the seafood's freshness. Lastly, the Fish & Chips was my least favorite. The combination of potatoes and mayo on top of the fried fish was overwhelming and heavy for me. I wish they added some vegetables or something more refreshing to balance it out. Overall, I can tell this place aims to be unique, and while some dishes were definite standouts, there were also some that didn't quite work for me. I do appreciate that you can taste the freshness of the fish (when the sauce isn't too overpowering) and the homemade tortillas. The wait wasn't too bad, considering how there were only two staffs. The staff was amazing - knowledgeable, attentive, and hardworking. The place is small, but they made it work somehow. No takeout available. Free street parking.

Yelp
When I arrived, there was a line outside equal to the amount of people inside the very small restaurant and patio. The orders that were walked past us to the diners looked good enough to stay. I ordered the estilo baja and the pepino santo margarita. The food and margarita were an absolute perfect combination . An order comes with two tacos, although I wished I could have mixed and matched, I was not at all disappointed. Fresh corn tortilla, perfectly fried fish that was sweet and perfectly cooked with a slightly spicy and sweet slaw. The margarita had ground cumin and salt on the rim which went perfectly with the cucumber flavoring. Great experience that everyone should try at least once.

Yelp
The first time I drove from LA to Fish Guts, they had sold out of everything so I figured it was going to be good and it was. This time I came much earlier (2:30pm) - but they had still sold out of the smoked fish dip! What you need to know: Parking: There really is no designated place to park. We parked in a dirt lot next to the restaurant, and a very irritated tenant approached us and asked if it was our car parked in his spot. We felt bad, but there were no signs that we saw that said tenant parking only. The Fish Guts staff told us to move our car a few spaces down in that same dirt lot because another restaurant closed down and they were using their spaces temporarily. They need to fix this asap. Facility: The restaurant is super small. Maybe 40 seats max. The good thing is they will seat you, but you will have to wait in a line outside of the restaurant (thank God for California's decent weather). My aunt had just had knee surgery and the waitress happily brought her another stool to prop her foot upon. The facility was clean and the outside bar style seating was actually better than I expected. There is an exterior bathroom that you must get a key for. Service: Excellent. From the small staff warmly greeting us at the door to the speed and quality of service, we had no complaints. Our waitress was super nice! (I think there was only 1 or 2 waitress). Food: So the menu is very basic. They let you know there are no modifications. Since I have a shellfish allergy, there were a couple of cross contamination items I was concerned about but I was assured they would be separated. I wish they had chips and salsa or something else because we weren't full when we left. Estilo Baja: B+. Excellent presentation. The corn tortillas were fresh and tasty. De Espada: B+. The only critique here was maybe a bit more seasoning should have been added to the fish (maybe salt). Other than that it was delicious. Fish & Chips Taco: B+. Same as above; taco was delicious but just needed to be seasoned (maybe a bit of salt). Drinks were all tasty. We had the Smoky Mango margarita and the Pepino Santo. Both delicious. We will have to come back for the smoked fish dip. Cant wait!
google avatar

Rina K.

Yelp
Sat at the counter with two friends on a Friday night. The wait was only around 10 minutes and likely only because there was one front of house woman working the joint - she was INCREDIBLE and I wish I had gotten her name! She was taking orders, bussing tables, making drinks, all while SO friendly and kind, I was amazed watching this pro in action. We ordered the smoked fish dip and so many tacos - estilo baja, de espada, de coco, de camarón, de hongos. All of them were delicious, we were split amongst what we liked the most but surprisingly the smoked fish dip was a hit LOL we had just had a terrible one recently so this really made a big difference in our opinion of fish dips. We liked the nautical theme inside and the drinks also sounded/looked great. Would highly recommend if you're in the area and looking for fresh, good quality, delicious seafood!

Naol T.

Yelp
Yes the hype is worth it. We came here and was 2nd in line 10 minutes before open (noon) on Wednesday. At open, there was already a small line. They open Wed-Sun (closed Mon/Tues). Once open, you are instructed to pick a seat and the server will come by with menus/provide table service (she remembered our place in line). Recommend: Mushroom tacos (De Hongos) Beer battered local white fish tacos (Estilo Baja) Blackened local swordfish tacos (De Espada) Downsides: Parking can be difficult (there is no dedicated lot but you might have luck parking on street by the residential neighborhood). Food may take a while. Tortillas are hand made to order on site. Not a quick serve place. Seats are not comfortable on your tush. I still highly recommend it. These were the best tacos on our SD trip.
google avatar

Lilly J.

Yelp
Service was quick, I ordered a virgin michelada and it was so delicious I ordered another. The tacos were amazing, I ordered the fish and chips, fish was perfectly crispy and battered evenly, and the tortillas were definitely home made. I would buy them separate if I could! Will be back again. The only sad thing is they are closed Monday-Tuesday. But they're so worth the wait.
google avatar

Lori R.

Yelp
My new favorite seafood taco spot ! Honestly their mushroom taco was tied for my second favorite taco. Favorite was the white fish. My boyfriend's favorite was the coconut shrimp. We both were very very impressed with the vegetarian tacos. Tortillas themselves had the perfect texture flavor and oil level. It's a small shop with a few bar and then outdoor seatings. Staff is nice but sometimes have to flag them down due to the seating style. Overall would come back. Also- there is an amazing churro stand a few blocks down
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
The fish was slightly dry, but the flavors were well-balanced, and the slaw was excellent. However, the fish portions were on the smaller side. The coconut shrimp was nicely seasoned but didn't stand out much and tasted no different from the frozen ones from Costco (though I can tell it was made in house). The tortillas were the stand out. It wasn't too dry and had a slight sweetness. I came in hoping for elevated tacos like those at Holbox, but these were just okay. For elevated tacos in the area, Lola 55 remains my top choice. The al pastor tacos featured a smoky marinade and thick-cut meat, which was flavorful, but I personally prefer the thinner cuts found in street tacos slice from the trompo. While good, it wasn't quite my preference. The service was outstanding. The staff were exceptionally friendly, checked in on me regularly, and explained the menu in detail. I loved the vibes. I got to sit on the porch facing the street during sunset and it was such vibe.
google avatar

Heather D.

Yelp
I came here after seeing a blogger post on Instagram that this was one of the top best fish tacos in San Diego. I was prepared to wait in line, but wasn't expecting the inefficiencies with this. It almost seemed like when they open at 12pm, an entire wave of people get seated. Then you wait for that entire group to be done for seating to open up, and then the next wave of people go in. This wait time took about 45 minutes and I got there 30 minutes after they opened on a Saturday. All of the seating was either bar top or a shared community table which you sat super close together. Didn't love that. As for food, the tacos were great. My favorite was the Tacos De Coco. The coconut really comes out in this! The fish & chips taco was a little too salty. For drink, I tired the Pepino Santo which was good but they don't have a liquor license, so it was made with a wine based liquor. Overall, this place is definitely worth trying but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
google avatar

Veronica H.

Yelp
I'll start with the positive, we found this place through a YouTube video. We came in with the mindset of wanting to try as many items as we could. Some items were sold out. Everything was definitely different but tasted great. One of the waitresses was definitely friendly and attentive, she tried to make up for the lack of service from our actual waitress. The wait is definitely absurd and the hostess lacks communication. Every time she was asked about the wait times it was different even though she was asked minutes apart. The seating stools were beyond uncomfortable. Like I mentioned earlier we were planning on ordering more items, but we first had planned to order a few items and based on the taste we would order more or repeat items. Our waitress told us we needed to order everything we wanted at once because once she placed the order she wouldn't come back to take any additional orders and this comment was for drinks as well. Never in my life have I been told I can't order more items. They need to add a time limit there were people there when we first walked up to the line and still there once we left. This creates an unnecessary wait time especially considering how small the location is.
google avatar

Rana R.

Yelp
Really good tacos were had here at Fish Guts! The only complaint -I wouldn't even categorize it as a complaint, more like a suggestion- would be to add more menu items so there is more variety. Don't get me wrong, the simple menu of about 5 different tacos was excellent, but more options would be optimal. No notes on the drink choices, all gooood! Ordered the cucumber margarita and it was so refreshing, I wish it was summer already! My gf had the michelada which she said was good. She told me to add, "It's spicy enough that we didn't need condiments on our tacos." All taco plates came with 2 hefty tacos. We got the De Coco [$12] which is coconut battered shrimp & the Fish & Chips [$12] which was their spin on the UK's infamous fish & chips. All ingredients used were really fresh. The fish & chips came with a type of potato salad as a topping, very interesting! The coconut was super subtle on the shrimp dish which I appreciated. Really great tacos! What Fish Guts lacks in restaurant and menu size is made up from all the big flavors incorporated into their tacos. Street parking is plentiful and the all the employees were nice. Lots of stools available in & out of the place. Definitely a cool little hang out spot on the coroner of the famous Logan Ave.

Yelp
I am so happy I discovered this adorable restaurant on TikTok. These are hands down the best fish and shrimp tacos I have eaten in a long time . Their corn tortillas are homemade and absolute perfection. The fish is fresh and perfectly cooked . Our servers were friendly and attentive. This is a small restaurant, but we were seated right away . I cannot wait to go back .

Yelp
What a wonderful experience this place was. And I mean experience because each plate was so carefully crafted with unique combinations of flavors and textures. We ordered 3 different plates of tacos (2 fish, 1 veggie) and shared so we each got the experience of trying the different options. It did not disappoint and we were left with full bellies and satisfied palates. Would 100% come back again any day.

Yelp
Got seated right at opening and started with the smoked dip. It's a must have for an appetizer. You would think the ritz crackers are whatever but they are the perfect texture for the dip. The swordfish taco was very tasty. The coconut shrimp tacos were okay but I also am not a huge coconut flavor kinda guy. WOulds ceom back to try the other tacos. They had nice outdoor seating vibes.

Yelp
Alright so I've driven by this place multiple times and there is ALWAYS a line. So today my daughter and I got there before they opened which was at Noon. We got in line 5 minutes before opening and we were #7&8 in line. The hostess/waitress was very nice and explained the menu since it was our first time. We ordered the Jarritos, and their Hibiscus Sweet Tea . The Smoked Fish Dip was FIRE it came with some spice. It was SUPER fresh and paired with the Ritz crackers was PERFECTION! Now I ordered the Estilo Baja. It was OUTSTANDING. That chipotle aioli was WONDER. It definitely packs some heat. My daughter ordered the Fish and Chips. Their version is a little different than most cause it was like a potato salad. Definitely different, but FRESH and tasty. Overall 10/10 would definitely return when they open so I don't have to wait in line long. They do not take to go orders so the only way to enjoy this freshness is to wait in line. As we were leaving the line was down the block. Try them out. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
Um- wow! Yes, there's a line. And yes, it's with the wait. Every taco was superior- I'm from the Midwest, and we just don't have seafood tacos like this.

Yelp
If I could give Fish Guts 10 stars, I would in a heartbeat. We found this place totally by chance, and I'm honestly shocked I hadn't heard about it sooner. We started with an appetizer (delicious), but the real star of the show was the swordfish tacos. I'm not exaggerating when I say they were the best tacos I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned, insanely fresh, and paired with what I think are house-made corn tortillas. And that swordfish... WOW. However you cooked it, please don't ever stop. I can count on one hand the times I dreamt of food after I ate it, and this is one of them. This place is a gem -- tucked away, humble, and absolutely unforgettable. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
google avatar

Jane K.

Yelp
Every time I've visited their food and service is solid. It's known they buy their seafood fresh each morning. Their cocktails are delicious and their tacos are unique. My favorites are the smoked fish dip and the fish n chips taco. Sometimes they sell out so get there earlier if you wanna make sure they have everything. We've gone on weekends close to when they open. Often if you see a line it goes fast.

Yelp
Was excited to try this place. A bit of a trek from gaslamp as I was staying there for a conference. Got there a few minutes after 12 and it was already packed. Luckily there were some counter seats available. Vibes were nice- casual, friendly. Tacos some in pairs for about $10. We tried the chipotle fried shrimp, the Baja fish, and the mushroom medley. Tacos were small, expected given street taco style. Flavors were good. However, the only downside was that we waited about 30min after placing order which seems a little long of a wait for a casual taco place. Also it was very chilly given that the setup really doesn't provide any shelter from the weather. I'm glad I tried it, but not sure if I would make the trek out again next time I'm in the area.
google avatar

Kapo K.

Yelp
I strongly appreciated the quality of each tacos I had. This is easily a 5 star experience. One complaint. Garnish on the shrimp and white fish was exactly the same. I go out and eat to have a unique experience, and having an almost similar experience back to back is a bit of a downer.

Yelp
Visited for lunch mid week. O m g. Why did it take me so long to dine here?!? Oh wait I know why! Because this place has been a big hit since opening and I don't like long lines. We sat at the counter and ordered our food. Started off with: Estilo Baja- delicious and the chipotle aioli slaw was really nice and different. A must order!! De Coco- this one was good, however a bit to crunchy, and coconut forward for my taste. De Hongos- o m g, stop whatever you are doing and get yourself 10 of these tacos! Packed with oyster, cremini, and shiitake mushrooms & manchego cheese. Simply perfect. Eating tacos at Fish Guts, is definitely a nostalgic vibe for me. You can feel the breeze from the bay coming in, the interior designed with large marlins, and a random boat hanging from the ceiling.. kinda cool. All of it took me to that one place, that one spot, somewhere in Baja. Great job Fish Guts! I wish you many successful years to come.

Yelp
So glad we tried this spot. For 2 tacos per order it's definitely good prices, especially with how big they are. 3 orders was a little too much for 2 people, we were stuffed. We tried the coconut shrimp, swordfish, and fish n chips tacos; would get all 3 of them again. Also got each of the margaritas and they were perfect. Hoping they get a liquor license soon to serve them with actually tequila or mezcal, but the agave wine is bomb too. Melissa was our server & she was awesome. Great conversation, quick service, patient in explaining the whole menu, & made it really fun to eat there. The place is small but it's totally worth waiting for. Stoked to go back and try everything else on the menu.

Yelp
I really wanted to like Fish Guts--especially with all the hype around it--but unfortunately, it just didn't hit the mark for me. We ordered the smoked fish dip, the Estilo Baja, and the De Coco tacos. The smoked fish dip was more like a tuna salad served with Ritz crackers than an actual dip. I was expecting a bold, smoky flavor but it was so subtle that it just tasted like plain tuna salad--not what I had in mind. The tortillas were a highlight--definitely tasted homemade and delicious. But the deep-fried fish in the Estilo Baja taco had a soggy texture that took away from the experience. The De Coco taco had a nice texture, but the coconut flavor didn't really work for me--it leaned sweet and didn't quite blend well with the rest of the taco. With that said, the ingredients do taste fresh. The jamaica drink was more like a lightly flavored tea and lacked the rich, tangy flavor I usually associate with traditional agua de jamaica. Another downside: they don't offer takeout, which was disappointing since I had hoped to grab something to-go for someone at home. Service was just okay--nothing memorable. Overall, the experience left me wondering what the hype was about. I appreciate that they're trying something different, but for my taste, the flavors just weren't bold or balanced enough.

Yelp
We got the Estillo Baja tacos which were your typical battered fish tacos with a slaw and the De Hongos Tacos which was a very unique mushroom taco. The De Hongos was by far one of the best tacos I've ever had; The flavors were surprising but rich and balanced and delivered a unique taste. Score: 5/5 The Estillo Baja tacos were good but nothing out of the ordinary. Maybe because our expectations became super high after eating the De Hongos first. I would say the fish batter needed to be more crispy as it lacked that. It is not a bad taco whatsoever, but we just had better (that's just our opinion) Score: 3.8/5 Giving this place 5 stars because of the De Hongos. I don't think we can find tacos like these anywhere else and that's why it's a perfect score for us. The De Hongos are worth checking this place out, and we'll definitely come again when we're back in SD.

Yelp
Delicious and flavorful tacos! Ordered the coconut shrimp, Baja and blackened grilled swordfish tacos. To date, these have been the best tacos I've had so far while visiting San Diego. Seafood was super fresh, food was cooked well, and the fish was tender (and not dry). The waitress was super friendly as well and made a good recommendation on the swordfish. The coconut shrimp had great texture (almost like a prawn) and is a must try, like other reviews have mentioned. Fish Guts was worth the wait to get into Fish Guts before it opened on a Sunday afternoon.

Yelp
Another five star visit to Fish Guts! My husband and I were in town for Labor Day weekend, so naturally our first stop was Fish Guts! We came mid-afternoon on a Saturday and only waited about 20 min to be seated. We knew exactly what we wanted. If you saw my previous review, we were obsessed with the smoked fish dip. We had to start with that! It was so yummy. We ordered the exact same food we had last time because it was so good. They were already out of a few things, but we were happy it wasn't what we wanted lol. I'd love to come as soon as they open next time to try more tacos! Service was excellent - the servers all seemed to help out (I believe two servers and a few runners when food came out) and everyone was really friendly. It is a small space featuring super fresh food. I wouldn't come here with a big group unless you come early, but it's absolutely perfect for a group of 1-4!

Yelp
I'm always on the hunt for new street tacos in San Diego. Barrio Logan is known for great Mexican and Mexican-inspired cuisine, so when Fish Guts popped up I knew I had to try it out. First, there's not a lot of seating here -- there is some bar seating (high top stools), another section of high top seating around the window, and then a row of low stools that all face out toward the street. It would be hard to find seating here for a large group or a table that actually faces other people in your party. Assuming that's ok, these are street tacos! The food was fast, and tasty. The sizes of the tacos are good -- they come two to an order, each taco being about 2-3 big bites. Blackened swordfish with the jalapeño slaw was my favorite. Then the Baja. I also really liked the vegetarian mushroom taco! Glad they had that as an option. Overall, worth adding to your street taco rotation (I assume everyone has a street taco rotation).

Yelp
Fishguts completely took me by surprise with their swordfish tacos - they now might be my favorite fish tacos in San Diego! It's a tiny shop so there is usually a wait but it doesn't take too long. Their menu is short and straightforward and I went with the one gluten free option on the menu. I'm not usually a swordfish person but tried it nonetheless and wow did it not disappoint. The fish was cooked perfectly, which I feel is rare for swordfish not to be tough, and the spices were exquisite. I felt the two tacos were also a pretty decent size - not too filling but just right. Will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Very cute hole in the wall type of place. Service was great, I got seated quickly and my food came out fast, piping hot, and fresh! I love that they informed me how all of their seafood is fresh daily, made the meal taste more yummy in a sense. Tacos De Coco 10/10 - I've never had coconut shrimp in a taco. The shrimp were big, plump, and juicy. The coconut on the outside did not overpower the taco and was perfectly fried. You get a nice little subtle hint of coconut which I really enjoyed. The slaw on top was also really good. I loved the smokiness of the chipotle aioli and the crunchiness of the cabbage. Also their tortillas are so so good. I feel like people don't talk about the tortilla element of tacos enough. The tortillas are homemade, not flimsy, and had a nice corn flavor. Tacos De Hongas 9/10 - The mushroom taco was surprisingly delish. I typically go for non vegetarian tacos, but this caught my eye. 3 types of mushrooms, so juicy and buttery. The Serrano added a nice little kick to cut some of the richness. Only thing was the cheese was a little bit too strong for my taste.

Yelp
This is our new favorite spot! The flavors are like nothing you've ever had before. The tortillas are hand made. The seafood is so fresh. The fish & chips taco was incredible, my favorite. Next up the de coco tacos , so crispy and a bit sweet. The de espada tacos which is swordfish were boasting with flavors , a slight spice to them. We ended with the coconut pudding which was surprisingly fresh and so delicious. The place is very small, if there's a line expect to wait 15-30minutes depending on your party. Absolutely worth it or just come on week day when it's not so busy. Our server was Diana and she was very welcoming despite it being very busy. She took the time to talk to us about the menu and answer the questions we had. She recommended the dessert & we were glad we got it. We're coming back this week and bringing my mother in law. Definitely the best seafood tacos in town! With three tacos each and dessert with a aqua Fresca we both were more than satisfied.

Yelp
The Baja tacos with the local white fish was spicy and delicious. It's a small corner spot that does dine in only, so if you plan to have food to go bring your Tupperware. One negative I had was the coconut shrimp was a little too salty for my taste. I did feel that the one server could have been overwhelmed if it was a huge lunch rush but she handled the crowd at the time fine. The ambiance was basic but relaxing because of the open space to allow San Diego open air come in which I liked. If you are traveling from outside of California and want local fish then come here.

Yelp
100% will be back! This place has some fun fish tacos and is totally worth getting here early. The restaurant is fine in only and has limited spots, which leads to a little bit of a wait time. Highly recommend getting there 20-30 mins before opening to ensure you get first seating. We tried the margaritas, personally I've had better. But the the coconut shrimp taco was the winner for sure! We also tried the swordfish and fish/chips tacos which were still pretty good. This is definitely a taco spot you need to keep on your radar.

Yelp
I'm so sick of places that are overhyped and can't deliver, well Fish Guts isn't one of those. They have amazingly fresh fish tacos! Get there early before they sell out. There will be a line but it's worth the wait. They make their own tortillas too! We tried the coconut shrimp tacos, the Baja fish tacos and the swordfish tacos. Each item is served as it is ready so be aware you may not get all your food at the same time. This allows everything to be served hot and fresh. There is also no take out. Of the 3 tacos I tried I think my favorite was the swordfish but honestly they were all delicious. I'll be back!

Yelp
Wow, I was not expecting the tacos to be this good! It's such an unassuming, chill place that's cranking out some good food. We came on a Wed afternoon around 5 and it wasn't too busy but was pretty packed by 6. Pretty small space with some indoor seating otherwise only outdoor bar seating facing the street. Unfortunately they were out of the al pastor and the de hongos when we went. We tried the estilo Baja (white fish), de coco (shrimp) and the de espada (swordfish). I probably should have read closer but the toppings for the shrimp and white fish were exactly the same so I didn't get the variety I was hoping for. That being said the Mexican coleslaw on top of those tacos was amazinggg. I could just eat that and be happy. A little bit of heat too. The corn tortilla was soft and flavorful. The fish and shrimp had good flavor. Loved the crunch that the coconut added to the shrimp without adding an overwhelming coconut flavor. My friend thought that the swordfish would be more spicy with jalapeno slaw and spicy aioli but she said the Mexican coleslaw was actually spicier. As others have mentioned, service is kind of slow. We ended up putting in two orders. Our first one probably took about 5-10 min to come out but our second one took about 20. They did warn us as we put in our 2nd order though.

Yelp
Get here ASAP and early. Take a seat near the quiet street corner and enjoy the weather with a beer here. Then snack on fresh seafood tacos. Coconut Shrimp will have us returning for más.

Yelp
This place is worth every good feedback that we have heard so far and that has convinced us to finally come in. We're so happy to be living a mere 5-minute drive away from it as we will be returning! Ambience: Their cozy corner location in Barrio Logan is perfect for a casual date night. We loved dining al fresco and overlooking the street. The ambience is a little bit upscale (but still relaxed) that tells you early on that the food is elevated but not in an intimidating way. What we got (each order of tacos comes with two): De Espada (blackened swordfish,) Estilo Baja (battered and deep fried fish,) and de Coco (coconut battered Baja shrimp,) all in handmade corn tortilla... everything was amazing. I can't even pick which one I like the most and I almost would always say, it is the Baja taco. But each one was just perfection. Their delicious slaws also made such a huge impact. They made sure not to use the same slaw to give each taco a sense of uniqueness and to avoid flavor fatigue. Ingredients are so fresh as well. Smokey mango cocktail - I rarely see mango as a key ingredient to a cocktail so this was a treat! Delicious, refreshing, and not too strong. Pudin de coco - a sweet ending to our meal. The cold pudding was soft and tasted of coconut cream. A very simple yet comforting dessert. We loved our time here and made our date night so special. Staff was attentive as well! Street parking wasn't a problem for us, with it being in a residential neighborhood that isn't too busy. Try to come in early as they only have limited inventory of fresh seafood every day.
