Google
Long standing chicken pot pie joint in San Diego. We ordered and got a hot and ready chosen pot pie. It was fast and easy. Fast food often comes with its pros and cons however. My son and husband both said they thought the food was mediocre. I remember eating their pot pie long before I went vegan. It’s tasty. My mom even came here as a child. Great historical spot to visit and eat, it is one of the oldest restaurants in San Diego after all! Cool decor and I know the crust is made fresh and the chicken is steamed in house.

Google
We love coming here for the delicious food! It's been here since 1938! The portions are huge, the prices are reasonable, and the service and ambiance is great! Bonus... they accept San Diego Synergy cards they sell at Costo too.

Google
The food was super good, the crispy chicken salad was huge and delicious 😋 the burger was fantastic with perfect toasted bund a crisp huge slice of tomato and red union made the for one super delicious burger. The chicken and waffles were amazing too. Definitely recome if you have a big family or enjoy solo. The prices were crazy especially since the portions were great for what you pay!!

Google
It breaks my heart giving the Chicken Pie Shop 4 stars, seeing as I’ve gone since I was a kid. But unfortunately the quality hasn’t been the same as of lately. Food either seems overseasoned (too much salt in the potatoes) or underwhelming (coleslaw way too bland). But as I’ve said in NUMEROUS reviews - everybody has an off day and maybe I’ve just been hitting on the off days. Still some of the best chicken, hands down the best chicken pot pies, and the staff are some of the sweetest most welcoming people I’ve ever met. Hoping for my inevitable next visit, they get that 5th star back 🖤

Google
Absolutely delicious. Got the special which came with a pot pie, mashed potatoes, corn, coleslaw, and a slice of pie. Also got a cup of split pea soup while my buddy got this delicious looking burger. Everything tasted great and looked just as good too. Service was fine for the most part though the server cleared my friends plate while it still had some food on it.

Google
I love it, so good, family vibes restaurant. Even the mashed potatoes is great, flavorful. Service is great, attentive. Definitely a good place. 🥰

Google
I always get their food delivered so I can't say anything about the restaurant itself. Anyway, the food is awesome. It's my occasional go-to in winter in San Diego when it's "cold" and I crave comfort food like chicken pot pies and great soup. In the summer, their Cobb salad is to die for. Just finished eating one. It's beyond huge. Their club sandwich and Reubens are also amazing.

Google
Great little restaurant in north park excellent service and good food I got the country fried steak breakfast and it was delicious I think they make the country fried steak from scratch witch is very unique and got them the 5 star review because most restaurants just use pre bought country fried steak witch is not really impressive they could have gave a little more hashbrowns but whatever I had been gifted san Diego restaurant gift cards and they take them so that was really nice parking is street parking I had no problem finding a spot

Yelp
My boyfriend and I received a gift card to this restaurant and honestly when he first suggested it I wasn't too excited since I'm not usually a fan of chicken pot pie. But I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. The service was absolutely wonderful. Our server was attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. The food came out quickly and everything was fresh and flavorful. I was especially surprised by how much I enjoyed the food. The mashed potatoes and chicken soup were seasoned perfectly and full of comfort. Even though I typically don't like pie, the one our server recommended completely changed my mind. It was flaky, filled with fresh fruit, and incredibly moist. I genuinely loved it. This experience really exceeded my expectations and I would happily come back. Great food and even better service.

Yelp
Good ol Instagram brought us here. We pass by this place often and finally decided to try after seeing so many videos. There is a parking lot, however i am unsure if its free since i found street parking right in front. The place itself is big and lots of seating inside. There is also a counter service area to sit as well. Came on a Saturday around noon time and it wasn't too busy. We were seated right away. They do have high chairs for those that need it for their little ones. They offer an all day breakfast menu as well and lunch/dinner. We decided to try the pot pie with fries as well as the fried chicken entree. The fried chicken entree comes with soup, mashed potatoes, corn, 4 pieces of chicken, dinner roll and dessert! Pot pie was smothered with gravy. I thought it tasted good and the portion was good enough to share between 2-3 people. Fried chicken entree was also a big portion to share. We thought it tasted good as well. we decided to get the apple pie for the dessert and that was good too. All in all, we enjoyed our food. Service was good. Prices were decent for san diego. Also, women's restroom has a baby changing station.

Yelp
I've always wondered what this place is like after 87 years of being in San Diego. I had to find out why. when you walk in you're greeted by a nice lady. The place is very old-fashioned. There's no music playing. The coleslaw and mashed potatoes taste just like KFC. The daily veggie are peas, corn, carrots and green beans. All obviously from a can. The chicken pot pie tastes like the ones you get in the freezer section of the supermarket. The waitresses are mostly older Women that have been doing WAY too long. They have become robots. The cherry pie was ok. This meal made me Feel fat , unhealthy and bloated.

Yelp
For sooo many happy year's I've had the utter pleasure to actually dine here. At least six to eight times per year in fact. Always consistent. Always easy on the wallet. Always value and most of all, always extremely tasty. Good parking in rear of building that's 4 sure. Try the pies, as good or better than Marie Caldener or the Cheese Cake Factory . BTW. Veterans get 10% off grand total. Take an extra 4% off if paying in cash. That's 14% off! NonVets, paying in cash, 4% 0ff.

Yelp
Beware - pot pies are chock full of real chicken! That is a total delight, not your standard pot pie which typically skimps on chicken. Had the chicken pot pie with whipped potatoes. Within minutes our order was ready! When you see your plate your first thought is, where will we go next or order 'cause that won't fill me. Then about 3/4 of the way through your thankful there isn't more 'cause where would you put it?!. While my standard idea of chicken pot pie isn't literally a pie just stuffed with chicken I really enjoyed its simplicity. The only thing I'd do next time is ask for sauce on the side as it was, for us, salt and didn't add value. I'd want to add it sparingly but that's me and mom. Dad felt differently. The sauce was average for him but he enjoyed as it was on the pie. He had the coleslaw instead of potatoes and felt it was a nice compliment. Mom added, that the pie crust is very rich. Service was very friendly and incredibly fast. Energetic atmosphere. Comfy food and interior. Like a mix between a diner, almost sports bar and country house. Free parking available in the rear.

Yelp
Great service! And wonderful food. Would definitely come back once I go to San Diego again

Yelp
If you like heavy white/brown food this would be your go to spot. Felt/tasted like cafeteria food so know before you go. We ordered a whole strawberry pie and it would score a 2 aesthetically, 2.5 for taste.

Yelp
This place doesn't disappoint. Had the classic c chicken Pie dinner and it's as amazing as it's been for as long as I remember. Service is always good, but not stuffy. You have to check out their awesome displays of chickens and SD local stuff in the cases throughout the restaurant. Been coming here for years and will keep doing so.

Yelp
Old school type of vibe that you can sense has been there for decades. If you like chicken pot pie you have to come try . They have an insanely good meal for $15.59 you get pot pie, whipped potatoes, daily veggie, Cole slaw, roll and slice of pie. The crust on the pot pie is light and the gravy went well with it. I liked their cherry pie crust even more. You can tell it is made with love. Plenty of seating and spacious restaurant. The service was good. If you get a soda, they give you one refill and even a to go cup! Parking lot in the rear and street parking.

Yelp
I've seen many reviews for this place. My sister drove me here and treated me to a Chicken Pot Pie meal to go! The pot pie was filled with shredded chicken and tasted delicious! The corn was definitely buttery delicious and the mash potatoes creamy. I loved the gravy too! The pumpkin pie hit the spot for my dessert! Yum! The staff here is very friendly and there is plenty of places to dine in too by yourself or with family and friends. I do so love the cute decor with chicken statues all over the place.

Yelp
I hosted a luncheon at this cozy restaurant, a recommendation from my partner in crime. I made sure to call and see if they do separate checks for a large group and if they took reservations. Since the answer was yes, I went ahead and made the reservation. Cassandra who took my call was very patience and helpful. A few days before the reservation I made a call back to confirm how many would be attending as I was instructed to do. It was a different person that confirmed my reservation and took the info of how many in our group. He asked would we want a separate room for our group and I opted for that. Upon my arrival the day of our reservation our server directed us to the 'Nest', which was room off to the side towards the entrance. Server was quick to ask if we wanted anything to drink while we set up for the luncheon. Our group put our food order in and food started flowing in after 15 minutes afterwards. I ordered the Chicken pie with Whipped Potatoes. I ordered a side of corn. Rolls came with everyone's order. My dish was delicious. Although I was surprised there were no carrots or peas in the filling of the pie. It was still good, flavorful and niche pieces of chicken. I just added my corn to the mix. The gravy and whipped potatoes was great. The rolls were a pretty good size and came with plenty of pkg'd butter. I had no room for dessert but I did get the very large cinnamon roll ($10) to go for dessert later. The decor is country, and cozy. Pretty roomy inside, with table seating and booth as well. It looks like they have two registers. One may be used specifically for To-Go orders. Service was a mix. Some acknowledged you, some were friendly. Our server for our luncheon was great, quick and patient. Curbside parking as well as parking in the back of the restaurant. We look forward to returning.

Yelp
I had a great first time experience! The place was way bigger inside then i expected which is good cause this place fills up at dinner time and I can see why now! For a chicken dinner with Four of the biggest peices ive seen and two sides and a roll for under 20 bucks! I had the chicken pot pie for under 10! Our bill came to under 40 bucks so i added on one of those cinnamon rolls to take home and heat up later.... Everything was worth it! I will return until i eat my way through the whole menu... gravy tasted like my gmas

Yelp
I loved their chicken pot pie. It was almost amazing if they just had more gravy/saucy. The chicken was super dry but the flavor was great. There weren't any potatoes but that's OK with me. Its actually quite small of a pot pie but shareable with my wonderful husband. You go in and there is the restaurant side and to the left is the to go section. It's quick and easy. Next time I'll have to come order other things.

Yelp
So glad I finally tried the San Diego Chicken Pie Shop! They very much earn their name because this was by far the best chicken pie I've ever had. The filling was stuffed to the roof. It was soft and tender full of chicken and not just a lot of gravy. The crust was warm and buttery and soaked up the gravy piled on top. The GRAVY. I've never had gravy like this but I don't think I can ever go back to regular ol boring gravy again. This was so flavorful and savory my mouth is watering just thinking about it. The giant cinnamon roll is an absolute beast. Its soft, warm, gooey texture marries perfectly with the melted butter, and sugary glaze coated outside. Topped off with a pile of candied pecans, it's a perfect treat for a sweet tooth and their friends. The restaurant itself is a nice size with lots of tables and booths. They sat us right away and got us started very quickly. Everyone was polite and helpful. It was a great experience and I'm glad I went. The parking lot is a bit tight so if you've got a big vehicle be ready to grab a spot on the street outside the lot but it's definitely worth the trip to come get the ultimate combo of sweet and savory that is, The San Diego Chicken Pie Shop.

Yelp
Ordered pie special breakfast, chicken dinner and their holiday st Patrick corned beef dinner. All were delicious. Fried chicken was crunchy on the outside but cooked inside and tender. Corned beef special was tasty with potatoes cabbage and beans. The chicken pit pie was flaky and the gravy was creamy and so good. Overall experience was great. Their customer service was pretty good. They refilled coffee periodically and friendly staff. Casual place and just good home style comfort cooking. Will definitely return.

Yelp
The Chicken Pie Shop is a San Diego staple that I have adored since first visiting in like 2005. I haven't been in person since the renovation but stopped by after a busy day at work for a pie dinner to go. There are few things in the world as consistent as the pie dinner. Delicious and filling without breaking the bank, you get a pot pie, mashed pot, veggies, Cole slaw, a piece of bread, and a slice of dessert pie. Price has obviously gone up a bit but you still get all that for like $15, which is a steal. And so good. And also is basically ready to grab and go within 5 minutes. The renovation is nice, a lot more modern and sleek, while maintaining its kitschy charm in a fresh way. It no longer feels like a dark room at your grandmothers house. Service was nice as well -- which wasn't always the case before. Honestly every San Diegan should know and love this establishment.

Yelp
I've always passed by so many times and finally decided to check out the SD Chicken Pie Shop. Firstly, it's great to see a restaurant have the success and longevity that this place has. In a couple more years, they'll be celebrating their 90th anniversary! Walking in, you get that immediate old-school diner-esque feel. There is a lot of seating and we were seated immedaitely when we arrived. FYI they also have a to-go ordering area right next to the check-in area as well. If you come here, you're definitely going to have to get a chicken pie so I opted for the Chicken Pie Dinner. For around $15, they definitely give you a great value for the price! The Chicken Pie comes smothered with gravy, mashed potatoes, veggies, coleslaw, a roll, plus dessert. The pie was baked nicely and the crust texture was very easy to cut through. The gravy flavor has a nice strong turkey flavor that brought me back to Thanksgiving. While I enjoyed the gravy, the flavor of it does overpower the chicken and inside of the pie. I didn't taste much flavor from the chicken/inside in comparison to the gravy flavor. The mashed potatoes were a fantastic texture being very whipped and smooth. This too comes with the same gravy on top. However between this and the other sides (roll, coleslaw, veggies) the biggest thing lacking was seasoning. The food overall was fairly bland and the only realy defining flavor was the aforementioned gravy. It also comes with a dessert so we got a slice of peach pie. It looked great but when we took a bite, this too had very little flavor outside of the peaches. The crust looked like it had a good amount of sugar on it, but it tasted like it had no sweetness whatsoever.

Jay S.

Yelp
We are from LA and our SD friends wanted to go the Chicken Pie Shop. OK, It's a San Diego institution so we said fine, let's do that. The pie is a disk about 5" in diameter. This is no deep-dish pie. It appeared to have about 1 cup of filling. The crust is flaky, and the meat is moist enough, but it is a combination of chicken and turkey. We asked for the gravy on the side. The pie is salty, and the gravy is a salt bomb. That happens when you use chicken base for your sauce, and they use it profusely. It was virtually inedible. Vegetables are canned and the mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. The service was fine, and the coffee was decent. The rolls taste freshly made. I don't understand the glowing reviews here. Is the food bad, no. Is the food excellent, no. 3 stars.

Yelp
Friendly staff, the food is great and so are their desserts. Its spacious and inviting.

Yelp
Thanks to my husband who introduced me to this place a long time ago. Last Sat (2/8), we celebrated our daughter's bday per her request. All the food we got were delicious as always but the parking was not adequate. The entrance to the lot was confusing especially the 2nd aisle as it goes both ways but it's just too tight. Also, there's a sign that it's only for Chicken Pie shop patrons but as we were leaving, people from the condo or apartments were parking there. Hope it'll be fixed soon or add a parking garage even if it's a 2-level.

Yelp
I really wanted to love this restaurant. But I found it to be lacking in flavor. Everything tasted ok. The fired chicken was crispy and the chicken was nice and juicy, but the garlic powder they used for the batter was really strong. And it was a little overpowering. My pot pie was kinda dry inside. The pie crust was thin and flaky. Loved that. But the inside of the pie was jam packed with chicken/turkey. It needed way more gravy inside and probably some veggies too to cut all the chicken inside. And it needed flavor too. It needed some kind of seasonings. I had asked for my gravy on the side. Because I didn't want my crust to be soggy. But I knew right away that I needed that gravy to cut all the protein. And to give it some moisture. It was just too dry for me. The mashed potatoes were good. But, the pie was a little disappointing. My daughter got the pancake breakfast meal. I forgot to take a picture of it. She enjoyed her plate. The milk shakes were good. We also tried the pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie, peach cream and apple pie. All the pies were so good! Overall, I probably wouldn't come back to this restaurant. It was good to try once. But I would still tell people about it.

Yelp
Finally stopped by to try this iconic spot, and they had some veggie pot pies available! The staff were so accommodating and helpful in helping us order since we don't eat meat (the gravy is not vegetarian but it was amazing and didn't have meat chunks in it). We finished our meal with a slice of apple pie. Love the decor inside, highlighting the history and nostalgic feel. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great food and food portions. I did pick up but I have eaten there before and food is on point. Staff is nice and efficient They have parking in the back ohhh and I love the decor !!!!

Yelp
We have passed by CPS countless times and finally stopped in to see what it's about. I ordered the chicken pot pie with daily vegetables and shared the peach pie slice that came with my partners meal. I have to just say it, it was unpleasant. The gravy and pie had zero seasoning and it all blended together in a pile that was a little mushy. The vegetables seemed like they were from a can and also had zero seasoning. The bread was unappetizing and cold. I was hoping the peach pie was the saving grace, but it was not. I usually like when things are not too sweet but this was like it was made without sugar. I can't even describe it properly and it was disappointing because peach pie is one of my favorite desserts. I understand this is an old recipe, but they had to have had salt and pepper when it was invented. I love the fact we have such a long running restaurant in north park, but I wish I had a different experience.
google avatar

Yelp
The restaurant was clean and inviting. It's a large dining room. Our server Marie, was pleasant. I had the chicken pot pie dinner. It was excellent. The dinner came with mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. Also coleslaw and dessert. It was a good value. I brought back fond memories of when I lived here. I recommend the Chicken Pie shop for a tasty and filling meal. Great place for locals.

Yelp
San Diego Chicken Pie Shop is a slice of old America, holding steady in a city chasing trends. The ambience is pure old-school country with vinyl booths, vintage signs, and a warm, lived-in charm you don't see much anymore. The chicken pie is pure comfort with tender chicken, soft vegetables, and a crust that crumbles just right. The chicken fried steak is crisp and peppery, covered in white gravy that tastes like Sunday afternoon in a small town. The service is part of the experience with authentic diner waiters who are attentive, sassy, and effortlessly friendly. No pretense. No ego. Just good food and good people in a place that gets it.
google avatar

Hyun Y.

Yelp
Love that they had private parking. It's a bit tight but it was nice to not worry about where to park. I got the classic chicken pie dinner and it was perfect. You get small chicken pot pie with a side of creamy mashed potatoes and gravy and corn. It also comes with a side of cole slaw and dinner roll. At the end the waitress asked me if I want a pie and I was like noooo I'm too full then she said it comes with my order! Love that it's a complete meal. I got coconut cream pie and it was so good. Now the inside is a bit old fashioned but the ladies who were working inside were nice and efficient. Wanna come back and bring back the family for a simple home style comfort meal.

Yelp
We waited about 4 minutes to be seated in this retro style restaurant. After we decided what we wanted, we were served in under 5 minutes!!! The chicken pies were tasty... Mild and delicious. We chose gravy on the side to avoid having too much. They serve multiple flavors of homemade pies as well... Look delicious, but we were too full... Maybe next time. We saw homemade cookies for .99 on the way out. Love the 4 percent discount for cash!! Wheelchair could two of us eat for $21.27 in CA??

Robert S.

Yelp
I've heard about this place for a long time and my family and I finally had dinner there tonight. Five of us got the world, famous chicken dinner and one got the chicken gizzard dinner. We all enjoyed the meal very much. I especially like the pot pie with the gravy on it. It also came with mashed potatoes and corn and a piece of pie for dessert as well as coleslaw. It seemed a good value and tasty as well. About half took home a good portion for lunch for tomorrow the service was friendly and professional. The food came out in a timely manner. It's kind of an old school restaurant in very pleasant. I will definitely try to visit here again when I'm in San Diego. Well worth the stop.

Yelp
I bought a "Too good to go" bag off the app and come in to pick up more order. Since it's a "surprise" I waited until I saw what I got which was 7 rolls, a pint of mashed potatoes, a half pint of gravy a half pint of corn, a half pint of mixed veggies, and a pint of chicken soup. Because I had not been here before I had to try a regular pot pie, a mini pot pie, and the Mac and cheese as well. I am pleasantly surprised that there was only creamy chicken inside the pot pie and not overloaded with mixed veggies as most places do. I am disappointed that it was bland however. I had to doctor up the pies and the Mac but can appreciate the amount of protein and sizes of the orders. I have served quick and attentively from the to go desk, the restaurant was busy and sold out of a few things as I got there around 7pm.

Yelp
If I could recommend one place to eat in San Diego, this would be it. It sounds funny because it's just kind of a basic restaurant for ordinary folks, but the food is so far above average and the people who work there are super nice. The restaurant itself has been around since the 1930s, first downtown and then in Hillcrest. When I was a kid, we used to go to the one in Hillcrest and I was afraid that when they moved to El Cajon Blvd. that something would change. Nothing did; it is still great. The chicken pot pies are old-school and wonderful as is the chicken fried steak. Get the combo meal so you get the nice vegetables and a slice of pie. Great pie selection. If you are there the day they make the banana cream pie, I recommend it highly.
google avatar

Yelp
You stand waiting to be seated for a while before anyone ever acknowledges or notices you. This is true whether just three of us are in line as one party or 12 of us in line as multiple parties. So I think that aspect of the service can be improved. But once you order come, the food comes out pretty quickly. While we really enjoy the chicken pot pie, which actually consists of chicken and turkey meat, I think it would be great if the restaurant offered an option of chicken pot pie with vegetables, even if it's just carrots and celery. I am an absolute meat, lover, but I actually would like something else in my pot pie besides meat. We also had a bowl of chicken soup. Which actually was chicken and rice. It was a little salty, but needed pepper. The menu listed soup as $4.99 a bowl, but I was charged $5.40 but didn't say anything. New to me is that you get 4% off your bill if you pay in cash, so the restaurant doesn't have to pay the merchandise transaction fee. This is a nice option. This place closes at 8 PM, even on a Saturday night, so make sure you get there with enough time to order. Street parking is available and I've never had an issue.
google avatar

Paul B.

Yelp
The food here is good, might need salt or pepper, but good. The classic chicken pot pie is good, but it filled me up! Ps: the soup is good but the chicken costs extra. The service is slow, nobody is running the seating. Plus, you have to pay at the same place you wait to be seated. After you order it doesn't take too long, depending on what you order. The place itself reminds me of Julian for some reason, but if you look around there are many chickens around. Also, the ambiance is regular. Also don't do to go you get less for more $$$. Overall a 3.4 what knocked it out was the service, the waiter was nice though.

Yelp
Keeping this review short and to the point -- Ordered: Chicken Pie Dinner, Extra Gravy, Country Fried Steak (Comes with Chicken soup, rolls, cole slaw, pie) - Sides - Chicken Soup: Insanely salty, lack of depth and flavor. Cole Slaw: Fresh, but very sweet Rolls: Dry - Chicken Pie Dinner - Mashed Potatoes: Extremely dense, not fluffy, definitely instant potatoes Veggies: Flash frozen veggie mix, bland but welcomed since everything else was salty Gravy: Salty Chicken Pot Pie: Ok - loaded with shredded chicken, extra gravy is necessary for moisture but it was salty. - Country Fried Steak - Fried Steak: Gravy was good, chicken steak had little flavor and a bit tough, breading fell off easily. - Ambiance & Service- Recently remodeled exterior has a modern look and feel, interior has some charm but is still quite old. Service was alright. Neighborhood restaurant that has been a staple in SD for 86 years. We came here not with high expectations at all, but this fell really short of any standards. Unfortunately, it tastes like post WWII / hospital food. I know this taste is nostalgic for many and while carrying on the traditional recipe for all this time is impressive, some changes are necessary. And to the business owner - No, we did not tell the management our food was overly salty. Yes, we know the chicken pie recipe hasn't changed in 86 years.

Yelp
Two doors provide one for pickup/takeout and another for dinning in. I love this concept as it gets a nice crowd here. Service was friendly upon arriving, this place has a home feeling, it's very spacious and can accommodate large groups. Food options were plenty. We decided to try something we couldn't try at home or many places so we opted for the pie and fries for the kiddos and the hubby and I tried the pie famous dinner. The veggie would have been mixed but today was only corn I'm assuming because Thanksgiving is right around the corner and due to low inventory. Overall the pie was fresh delicious and crust was so yummy. These pies were packed with meat and gravy the way a pot pie is supposed to be. The kiddos even liked it!! This is a place if you're wanting some comfort and filling food this is it. I would definitely recommend for family gatherings and holiday meals.

Yelp
Slid thru for those Xmas fruit pies and they were bomb bomb. The homemade pies here are something special, the crust, the tartness of the cherries, the texture of the peaches, all exceptional. Since then I've swung by on at least two or three occasions to get more pies. $12.99 each, except for pecan which I believe is $13.99, is still a good value. My new favorite is the coconut cream pie; it's the best I've ever had! There's one particular employee here that seems like I'm ruining their day by patronizing the business, however more importantly, Lisa has continued to provide wonderful customer service, time and time again; I wish them both, the very best. Enjoy!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came here after seeing someone post a video on Instagram. My boyfriend loves pot pies! This place was amazing! Everything from the soup (chicken noodle) to the pot pie and country fried steak! The dinner rolls were even something worth mentioning! The gravy on both the pot pie and the white gravy on the country fried steak were on point! I can't wait to come back and try the meatloaf! This place has perfected each dish and it shows! 10 out of 10 recommend!

Yelp
Great value. Huge portions. Unparalleled vibes and history. I love a humongous chocolate banana milkshake as much as the next of us. However, the chicken dinner does have a sort of canned flavor throughout everything... at least the chicken pie dinner. But! Great rolls and good fried chicken.

Yelp
Went here w my wife for a lunch date. Definitely mediocre. The fried chicken wasn't very good I only ate 2 pieces and was done with it. My wife had chicken and waffles again the chicken mediocre and dry. Waitress was very also very dry. I thought it would be a better place overall.

Yelp
My husband and I spent the weekend in San Diego. We decided to stop here for dinner. The full dinner was way too much to eat. Therefore, we each got a chicken pie with a side of coleslaw. The chicken pie was loaded with chicken with just a light gravy and no vegetables. The crust was flaky. The coleslaw was delicious with just enough dressing Our server was great. It's just an old school decor which was very nostalgic

Yelp
Since I am traveling from Michigan, I won't be back soon, but I wish I was! The food is exactly the way I was hoping it would be. Very homey, comforting, warm, welcoming and hits the spot! I very much enjoyed the chicken pie with a great crust and the warm delicious gravy, which I couldn't get enough of! More highlights are the homemade chicken rice soup, a cup of comfort with a deep flavor! The banana cream pie was scrumptious and so fresh tasting, creamy, sweet with a flaky, buttery crust and full of bananas! I have the idea of coming here and getting the whole round of pies and trying each one! This was a real treat! I have to mention and appreciate that the service was top notch! Very kind with a lot patience and a friendly demeanor!

Yelp
When you walk in, you feel like you are taking a step back in time. The atmosphere is nostalgic and the staff welcoming and friendly. The menu here is enormous. And the portions are huge. There is so much food for each serving, no matter what it is. Dinners come with soup, vegetables or cole slaw (which is among the best in San Diego), mashed potatoes and rolls. The dessert was a slice of pie. I chose the pumpkin. It was a bit over cooked and dry. Next time I will try one of the cream pies. No wonder people pack their leftovers in a box. If you need some comfort food, great servers and a nice place to eat and talk, try Chicken Pie Shop.

Yelp
The food here was classic diner food. Nothing blew my socks off. The server matched the classic diner ambience. This cinnamon roll was only $10! It was arguably one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had.

Yelp
Today is July 24,2024...yes the prices are higher, it's expected, cuz of economy. But you know what didn't change???!! The service, she comes by and checks in on us, if we are fine and fills up our drink/coffee. The flavors of my favorite Chicken Pot Pie Dinner, the portions!! OMG!! The chicken pot pie was just sooooooo delicious so moist and the gravy to the mashed potato is just delicious I just don't how to explain it, oh and their coleslaw...love!! Everything is just mmmmmmm Chef's kiss!! Mwah!! Talk about Flavor Town!! They still include dessert too...either ice cream or a small slice of pie(btw...I had to take it to go, was stuffed). There is parking in the back. I believe they close at 8p on weeknights. We were here on Wednesday.

Yelp
I've been enjoying the San Diego Chicken Pie Shop since I was just a little girl. I usually get the classic pie dinner, OR the best Cobb salad on earth. Service is always quick, and it's so cute and cozy inside, providing supreme nostalgia every single time.

Yelp
I can't believe this place isn't rated five stars. I remember it being good, but hadn't had it in forever. I decided to try it again today for the first time in years and it's not just good, it's phenomenal. I'm from the South, and really miss soul food, and all this time I could've been getting it here. I ordered fried chicken livers with whipped potatoes, mixed vegetables (with butterbeans y'all!), rolls, peach pie, the house salad, and the macaroni and cheese with garlic bread. First of all, I can't believe the portions for the price. I feel like San Diego is overwhelming right now in terms of cost-of-living. So I was thrilled when for $7, I got a full-size to-go container filled with the freshest salad I've ever had, including croutons and house-made blue cheese dressing that was delicious. And that's not to mention my main dish! For $15, I got a pile of giant chicken livers and onions, a heap of whipped potatoes, a pile of mixed vegetables, two rolls with butter, and a piece of pie. That's unheard of right now. That wouldn't impress me if everything weren't also SO delicious, but it was! I highly recommend everything I tried. Unexpectedly, I think the salad was my favorite. Someone literally hand shredded carrots for it and piled croutons so high in their container that they had to tape the lid on. It just felt like it was made with love; I know that sounds hokey, but it felt like they really wanted me to enjoy it. And I really did! I ordered this on DoorDash, so prices might be even lower in the restaurant. I can't wait to order more now that I've remembered how great this place is.

Yelp
NOTHING FANCY BUT TASTY AND FILLING (4 stars) Eating on a budget :) I've passed this place a gazillion and one times and I've recently visited here once to pick up food. This is a well known establishment with a long history and I'm embarrassed to say I've only been here recently. It was my first and definitely not my last. What's more enticing to come here is that they do have a parking lot - North Park is known as "no park" so to have a dedicate place to park makes it convenient to come here and eat. I did a TooGoodToGo order. They were on the dot for the time slot allotted for pickup. When the bag was handed to me it was heavy and large. My first order through TooGoodToGo and my first order event... didn't feel (by weighr) disappointing. My surprise bag for $5.38 was: - Chicken Pot Pie - Dozen of their house rolls - Side of mash potatoes and gravy - Side of corn This meal would have cost me ~$15 (minus 11 house rolls). How amazing is this place. Chicken Pot Pie was so savory and comforting. The house rolls (yah what am I going to do with 12 rolls), were delicious so I ate as much as I could. They were fluffy and sweet; however if left out unconfined they get hard real quick. I threw them in a ziplock and they were good to go. Mash potatoes and corn were average. What a great introduction to this restaurant. Cannot wait to come back and actually sit here and order other food off the menu. JABA APPROVED. Until the next review... JABA APPROVED. Until the next review.

Yelp
Holy moly are their prices fantastic. My husband and I split the chicken pie dinner with a chicken pie, mashed potatoes, veggies, gravy, a roll, coleslaw, and a slice of pie for just north of 15 dollars. We also ordered a bowl of soup and 2 delicious diet Cokes. Both of us left stuffed and our total with tax and tip was less than 36 dollars! This isn't fine dining but it's tasty comfort food. We will be returning.

Yelp
One of the best Chicken Pot Pies I have ever had! Loved the ambiance! The portion sizes were HUGE. The rolls you get with your meal, are seriously delicious. Probably the high light of the whole meal. The service was great and very quick!! The reason for the 4 stars is because the veggies seemed like they came straight out of a can. If you are looking for a nice home cooked meal and delicious chicken pot pie, this place is a must!
