Yesterday was our first time visiting the Chicken Pie Shop. My husband used to live down the street, and I've passed by this place countless times without ever stopping in. Recently, I heard about their renovation, and although it's been some time since that was completed, we finally decided to give it a try--for my birthday! I wanted something homey that served breakfast, and this fit the bill perfectly.
Right off the bat, I loved the mural on the side of the building--it's so charming! We snapped a few photos there before heading in. Once inside, I was surprised by how spacious it was. The décor--rooster knickknacks, framed photos, and a cozy diner vibe--made it feel warm and welcoming.
The woman who greeted us was also our server, and it seemed like she might've been handling the whole dining room on her own. She was kind and attentive, especially with the coffee refills (always appreciated!).
We ordered:
Corned Beef Hash & Eggs
The Neighborhood Grind
French Toast with Blueberry Purée on the side
The food took a little longer than expected, but everything came out hot. The Corned Beef Hash was unique--rectangular, crispy, and not the typical style we're used to, but still tasty.
The Neighborhood Grind was a standout: a comforting chicken pie topped with gravy and a sunny-side-up egg (my request). I chose bacon (a bit too crispy for my liking but still good) and hashbrowns on the side. The chicken pie wasn't a pot pie--it was something different, hearty, and absolutely packed with chicken. The crust was flaky and delicious, and the gravy tied it all together beautifully.
The French Toast was solid--nothing extraordinary, but satisfying. I also grabbed a slice of rhubarb pie to go. Unfortunately, that was a miss; the filling tasted too much like thickener, though the crust was excellent.
Overall, we left happy and full. Despite a few small hiccups, it's a place I'd gladly visit again for that comforting, old-school diner experience.
