This was the worst hotel I've been too in a long time, let me break down my entire experience.
I have bad travel anxiety, I woke up the first morning with stomach pain. I went down to the front desk and noticed that they had yogurt for sale. I bought the yogurt and asked the lady if they had spoons.
She said no.
Not, one moment or let me see what I can do, just no.
This is a 4-star hotel, with a restaurant and room service, and you're telling me you don't have a fucking spoon?
I ended up finding a plastic fork from a meal I had the other day and used that.
The next issue I had was with room service, I needed a bottle opener and called the front desk, went to voicemail.
Annoyed I went down stairs and there was a dude just chillin behind the counter doing nothing. I got a bottle opener from him and went back to my room.
Here's where the real fun begins:
The next night I am finally getting comfortable, my stomach issues have subsided and I am looking forward to spending time with family.
The power goes out.
Pitch black in the room.
Not a single announcement is being made over the PA system.
So I find the stairwell and journey down to the main lobby with the rest of the patrons.
There's a fire truck in the lobby driveway and maintenance workers walking around.
Eventually an employee made an announcement (not using the PA, but by voice in the lobby) that there was a leak that had busted a fuse.
I asked in front of everyone, "Does the PA system work?" To which the employee responded, "yes"
I found that to be bullshit, because if it was you'd think he'd make those announcements over the PA. Plus the phones weren't able to call out
I was furious, my stomach was in knots and my phone was at 30% battery, I needed power, I did not pay good money for this hotel to not only be treated badly but to sit in a dark room. Plus I did not feel safe sleeping on the 7th floor with no way of being notified is shit is happening.
I expressed my concerns with the manager and she said she would set me up with a room at another hotel. I asked if it will be the same quality as the room I booked, she said yes.
It was not the same quality
After walking across an unfamiliar place with the stomach acids burning my insides, I made it to the double tree inn, which is a 3-star hotel.
I had to change my room there because the room I got had noise issues, but to be frank, this review is about the Marriot Del Mar and not the double tree so I will be focusing mainly on the Marriot.
What no one told me is that it was only for one night, and they thought I was out the next day.
I was furious. I went to the Marriot and had more words with their manager. I had spent good money for this hotel so that I could be comfortable while in town visiting my family and my nerves were shot.
I told the manager that I need a refund for the night because the service was not acceptable and they put me through alot of stress. They said unfortunately because I booked through a 3rd party that they could not refund me and that Expedia would have to reach out to them.
The manager did set me up with a slightly bigger room the last night and gave me a voucher for $25 breakfast, however the shower in the room had issues with the knob, it wouldn't stay up on hot and the water would stay barely luke warm with no pressure.
The breakfast I got was Parfait yogurt and sliced fruit.
The amount of food I had received for that $25 was laughable.
I had contacted Expedia and asked them to reach out on my behalf please, because the service was truly un acceptable.
I received an email saying that unfortunately they will not be refunding my money for that night.
I will never stay at the Marriot in Del Mar ever again, and I am extremely hesitant on doing business with Marriot in the future. Avoid this place at all costs.
