Arterra Restaurant Unveils Major Refresh in Del Mar | Eater San Diego

Google
I have very high standards when it comes to Hotels. Number one I am very impressed with the valet. I was dropped off in a private car and they came and opened the door for me. Went up to the hotel room and it was very clean. I own a commercial cleaning service and I understand how hard it is to keep good housekeepers. Your housekeeping staff is doing a great job in the rooms. The sheets were clean. The room was clean and overall I loved it. I will say the body wash does not smell good lol The pool area is very nice to go out and unwind and just relax. My partner was actually down here for a conference, so I decided to tag along and explore San Diego. The restaurant in the hotel is great. The staff there are very good with refilling drinks and coming to check with you. Room service very impressed with how fast it comes up and the food is hot. The person that delivered my breakfast lunch and dinner when I ordered room service was very very friendly and even brought it in and placed it down for me. Like I said, I am very particular when it comes to hotels and this one I am very impressed! Please give a shout out to your housekeeping staff as well as the Restaurant team!

I love the hotel, especially the staff. Every single person there was amazing and truly made me feel like they cared about what I needed. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of maintenance in the rooms. All the screws were loose on the bathroom door. The door did not operate properly so I tightened all the screws by hand. And Shazam the door worked fine. But even silly things like the blackout curtains had multiple places where the coating was missing and the curtains really didn't do their job. So as much as I love the hotel, it's also about the little things. They need their maintenance staff to go through their rooms every now and then and make sure that everything works properly.

I’m very unhappy with my experience at this Marriott location. First, the room was supposed to include a microwave, but there wasn’t one. There was also no kettle, which was very inconvenient, especially for families. I had also paid for breakfast for 4 people, but the front desk only provided breakfast for 2 people. That was very frustrating and not what I paid for. Additionally, I had paid for parking in advance, but the receptionist said he couldn’t see it in the system. Only after I started looking for the confirmation email did he finally provide parking, but made it seem like he was doing me a favor by giving it for free — even though I had already paid for it. The front desk service was poor overall. The male receptionist with glasses was unpleasant, did not smile, and did not greet us. It felt like he didn’t want to be there, and that made check-in uncomfortable. To make things worse, the Courtyard lounge was closed when we checked in at 4 PM, even though we expected to relax after a long drive. Overall, this stay fell far below Marriott’s usual standards — missing promised amenities, poor service, and lack of transparency. I hope management reviews this feedback seriously and makes improvements for future guests.

5/5 – Exceptional Service and Immaculate Stay! As a receptionist at Marriott, I know what excellent customer service looks like, and Serena truly impressed me. Her professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail were next-level. From the moment I arrived, she made me feel welcome and taken care of. The hotel itself was spotless, super clean and well-maintained throughout. Plus, the location is perfect just a short drive from the beach. This is easily one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed at, and Serena’s top-notch service made it even better. Highly recommend!

Google
I recently stayed at San Diego Marriott Del Mar for 5 nights during a business trip. Jason, the Guest Service Manager, and his front desk staff, Serena and April in particular, exemplified exceptional hospitality and professionalism. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and a welcoming demeanor. Their attentiveness and willingness to go above and beyond, whether it’s assisting with special requests, or ensuring a smooth check-in/ out process, demonstrated a true dedication to guest satisfaction. They played a key role in making my stay truly enjoyable and me feel like a valued Marriott Bonvoy member. The housekeeping staff also did a fantastic job ensuring my room is clean and spotless upon my return. I look forward to my return trip/ next stay soon.

Google
I want to share this review to recognize the incredible kindness and compassion of the San Diego Marriott Del Mar team. After the passing of my dear friend, her husband and children stayed at this hotel. The staff not only left them a handwritten note with their condolences and support, but they also cared for them with a special warmth throughout their stay. In a moment of such deep pain, the San Diego Marriott Del Mar team showed true humanity. Their attention and care brought comfort in a way that is hard to put into words. This is not something you can teach; it reflects the heart and values of the people who work here. Thank you to the entire San Diego Marriott Del Mar team for reminding us that true hospitality is about caring for people. Your kindness will stay with us forever.

Google
Not deserving of the Marriott Bonvoy brand. Booked utilizing the American Express travel portal and was canceled on without notice. Made me rebook at the counter through American Express. David at the front counter then mistakenly charged me for an additional night using my platinum card, which was provided to them for incidentals. No notice until I caught it with my statement. I ended up having to reach out to them to fix the issue. The overall property needs work - elevators were antiquated, slow and often busy. Almost 0 amenities outside of a bar of soap and lotion. I travel a lot for work, and I am currently staying at the Marriott Irvine property and can definitely see cost cutting measures that cheapen the experience of staying at the Del Mar. I will also add that during the 20 minutes at the front counter, four different parties expressed dissatisfaction with their stay - all four were provided either valet/parking waivers or 15 to 20,000 Marriott points for compensation.

Google
I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for the extraordinary compassion shown by the team at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar. Following the loss of a beloved friend, her husband and family stayed at this hotel, where they were met with genuine care and sensitivity. The staff went out of their way to extend their condolences through a handwritten note and, more importantly, through the warmth of their actions during the family’s stay. This speaks so much about the wonderful team and staff in that location. During such a painful time, the team at San Diego Marriott Del Mar exemplified what it means to be truly human. Their kindness and thoughtful gestures brought a sense of comfort that cannot be manufactured—it comes from a place of real empathy and integrity. To everyone at the San Diego Marriott Del Mar: thank you for showing that hospitality is more than service—it’s about compassion, dignity, and heart. The impact of your kindness will always be remembered.

Yelp
We love this hotel! Live up in Mission Viejo, but this is one of our favorite places to go for a staycation. They recently added or brought back their concierge lounge. And let me tell you, Jayden is phenomenal! Totally takes care of you! Put on the game for me and made sure we had everything we needed up here. Will be back again soon.

Yelp
Marriott Del Mar has become my go to place whenever I travel for work in San Diego. The staff is consistently warm, polite, and welcoming, which sets the tone every time I arrive. They make it easy to settle in and feel taken care of, even on long work trips. The outdoor space is one of my favorite parts of staying here. The patio with the fire tables, palm trees, and evening sunsets feels peaceful and relaxing after a full day. It is the perfect spot to unwind with a drink or finish up a little work. Their sushi restaurant is a hidden gem. Fresh fish, beautiful presentation, and flavors that surprise you in the best way. The rolls are consistently excellent and pair perfectly with a glass of wine on the patio. Clean rooms, great service, and a calm atmosphere make this property stand out. I always look forward to coming back.

Yelp
First, i don't know why this place only reeceived 3 stars average review. My family has been choosing to stay at this hotel for the last year when visit San Diego. The hotel, in my opinion, checks all the boxes for service, comfort, and amenities. The front desk staff is extremely friendly and professional. The valet service is fast and courteous. The rooms are clean and have nice views. There is nice pool and sauna. The Arterra restaurant is a hidden gem. The food and service there is excellent. We were served by Mindy. She is absolutely the most considerate hotel employee I have ever met. To this day my 6 year old son asks when we are going back to the hotel so he can visit Mindy.

Yelp
Our stay here was fine. Like, is it somewhere I need to stay again? Probably not, but it checked the boxes. It was fine. It was a standard Marriott. There wasn't anything that made it stand out from any other Marriott. This location is in business park so if your goal is to get to Gaslamp or any of the other communities downtown this isn't a good place to stay. The pool area is cute. There are cabanas and fire pits. The fire pits are first come first served, but the cabanas are reservable through Resort Pass which means you're paying Resort Pass prices. When we were there the cabana was about $200 and I don't think that included food and/or drinks. But, we were able to order food and drinks from the servers. Which, unfortunately, leads me to the bad part of the review. We had awful service by the pool. So much that we ended up just ordering straight from the bar. We told the manager immediately because the guy was just far from pleasant and they comped us a few things so we were all good. The rooms were standard Marriott rooms. They were comfortable and clean.

Yelp
Friendly check-in. I was able to check in early. There are two water bottles that they give you a complementary in your room. The beds are comfortable. I had to ask for towels in the room as they did not have bath towels or a robe..... and they do not have room slippers. The lights in the headboard flickered. The reading light did not work as well. Hopefully they were able to fix it for the next guest. Located 20 minutes from the airport. They do not have shuttle services. Uber is available and will pick up in front of the hotel entrance.

Jill G.

Yelp
We have been coming to Arterra for sushi for years so this review is long overdue. Head Sushi Chef Andrew Hoh and Chef Jun are amazing and this is the only place we eat sushi nationwide. Bartenders Kent and Jose A (along with Jose G) are experts at their craft and I love trying new wines whenever we stop by. Managers Agustin and Kelly are great. Servers like Chris, Mary, Yetzia, Ulysses, Miguel, and Angel make our day. Hostess Andrea always greets us with a smile. We always make a point to stop by when we are in San Diego.

Yelp
I had a nice experience staying at this hotel. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The staff is friendly and it's modern with a. Ice dining option and popular bar too. It's centrally located and reasonably priced too.

Yelp
Great experience and generous hospitality from Jayden! Updated property. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
The lobby is somewhat decent and looks nice, The front desk staff did not know how to check my itinerary from Expedia to pull up my trip. Finally after 5 mins he was able to figure that out. Got a one bedroom suite at the 10th floor, Noticed room service closes at 9pm Ordered from the down stairs Resturant paid and said if we can ge the foods up to room, was quoted 40 mins for delivery of room service got lots of sushi, and kids burger. After 35 mins I got a call saying if we can deliver the kids meal, and they apologize but they needed an additional 25 to 30 minutes for the sushi to be prepared. I agree to bring the kids meal up since my son was hungry The burger tasted awful, had a smell to it, and it was cold. Nuggets smelled just as bad Call the room service and told Them to pick up the burger and I requested to cancel my sushi order since was taking forever. They were begging me to keep the order, for discounts Postmates it was Walked into the room first thing me and my son noticed it smelled like old, rotten and pure pet smell. Kinda like your walking into a old nurisng faciltiy The carpets dirty, I wasn't aware this was pet friendly hotel Refrigerator doesn't really work well Had housekeeping come spray some breeze after five minutes smell came back. Bedsheets smelled bad just a miserable stay at this place luckily we checked In super late at 8:30pm and we have to be up early am to check out will never ever stay at this hotel. Online pics lie should of looked at yelp I would rate this a 2 star hotel most 3

Yelp
Previously stayed here 13 months ago and a new management company took over in November 2024. The majority of the staff are new with the exception of some part timers working the Club Lounge and Andrew and his staff who operates the sushi bar which is a separate entity. Stayed here for five nights and like the convenience of not being too far to see my clients in Coronado or Downtown San Diego. I also discovered 2 outdoor shopping areas located 1.1 mikes north of the hotel where you can walk to both which will take 25-30 mins depending on your stride or a 4 minute drive. Highly recommend North Italia, Nicks and South of Nicks all steps away from each other at One Paseo which is one of the shopping centers. No freeway needed from the hotel if you are driving. Areas for opportunity for the hotel: the 3 pump dispensers at The Lounge have seen better days as it takes numerous pumps to finally get your hot beverage. No need to pump iron as trust me it took numerous pumps to get a full cup of coffee or hot water. Evening service needs some work with only one entree offered only on my last night. Thursday, they had beef sliders and coconut shrimp after I spoke to the Interim GM from Nashville, TN earlier in the week. I'm sure the Management Team will continue to work hard on fine tuning any misses that are brought to their attention. Overall another great stay at this property.

Yelp
We've stayed here a handful of times and it's definitely one of our favorites when in the San Diego area. Most of our visits have been for soccer tournaments at the nearby polo fields, so the location is convenient to that as well as to nearby restaurants, shopping, and of course the beach. Rooms and beds are comfortable, amenities are nice, and the staff are friendly and professional. There is also a nice restaurant / bar / pool / fitness center and more. Note: you will have to pay to park your car in the garage. I am sure we'll be back to this hotel and I'll look forward to it!

Yelp
We enjoy staying at the Del Mar Marriott when we come to San Diego. The valet is prompt, front desk is welcoming and the servers in their restaurant are all very nice, especially Mindy she is our favorite. This hotel definitely feels safe, clean and comfortable. I do see sometimes they may need more staff at the Starbucks and possibly in the restaurant but overall we enjoy this hotel and will keep coming back.
google avatar

Yelp
This hotel has everything you need from a nice full bar, and restaurant, to all toiletries from shampoo to shower gel. It's all provided here. There's a parking garage that you need your key card to enter. Guest parking will cost $35/night though. But it's free parking per key card. I definitely recommend a stay here.

Yelp
I usually don't stay at Marriott chain hotels. I am a Hilton! But this was an okay Marriott set in a corporate park type of environment north of San Diego. Starbucks coffee was only open until 1:30 p.m. They say 2 p.m. but each time I went to get coffee he wasn't there around 1-1:30 p.m. The Hotel doesn't offer a shower cap or lotion. The rooms are very noisy... the walls seem thin and the noise travels a lot. Can hear the slightest conversation in the hallway from your room. A lot of doors slamming early in the morning. Wish their doors were silent when they close. A lot of corporate people for conference/business. The restaurant had okay food, not too bad. The waiter was very nice and offered excellent service.

Yelp
Came here for a business trip, just one overnight stay. All was clean. Beds, bathroom, nicely lit and comfortable. It was a bit strange to have the TV on and volume up before I got to the door. I thought someone was in my room already! The only facility I used was the hotel gym. Nice and clean. I have no complaints. Front desk staff friendly with smiles. Perfect.

Jericho C.

Yelp
Initially booked online and paid in full. The hotel charged me for a room regardless, which is fine mistakes happen. Although not everyone can afford to be spend double the cost of the stay and just wait for it a few weeks. They said they would initiate a refund which could take a few days. I call again a week later and apparently the front desk lady that my Amex rep spoke with lied and didn't initiate one, but the hotel mentioned that they'll initiate one now. Won't list any names because I still respect staff, but this aspect is not okay. Service and stay was alright, they gave me incorrect room keys initially but made it right. My room's fridge didn't work and had some used teabags above it, but relatively clean besides that.

Yelp
We enjoyed our stay at Marriott Del Mar. we had ample towels and were given late checkout. Lobby was clean and had a Starbucks and restaurant with full bar downstairs. The pool was packed the entire time we were there. Parking available in a parking garage next to the hotel for a daily fee. The front desk also had a small kiosk area for snacks and toiletries, as well as a microwave for use. Only downside was the bathroom shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were almost empty at start of our stay and when we asked housekeeping to fill when they serviced the room, they never did. We had to call room service and ask for new bottles which they provided.

Vince P.

Yelp
I'm a bonvoy member and stayed here and was very disappointed. Pool and restaurant service wolfley low as well as low energy server. I would never stay there again.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Del Mar and my first ever stay at this particular Marriott. We were really thrilled with the beautiful views in the town and love that this is a bit away from the hustle and bustle of the 101 shops. The check in area has valet service and luggage assistance. I currently have an infant, so baggage assistance was really handy with all the extra things we travel with for our baby. The employee who normally does it was busy and so the front desk who was not busy at all at the time offered to help instead, which was super kind. The hotel is gorgeous. There are ocean views if you're high enough up and on the right side of the hotel. There is a restaurant on site with gorgeous views and higher end food/drink available. There's endless options for meetings and conference rooms with plenty of bathrooms around. There's a coffee bar near the main door of the lobby for those who want a quick breakfast in the morning. The hotel pool and spa also had pretty views and there was a fire pit too. The gym is probably one of the nicest hotel gyms I've ever seen. Everything we encountered, including our room, was very well kept and clean. Some of the staff was a bit awkward but really nice. We absolutely enjoyed our stay here and can't wait to come back next time we're in the area!
google avatar

Gary N.

Yelp
Attended a conference here, they seems to keep everything nice and clean, their lobby was busy, their parking lot was plenty, it's cozy and neat, parking will cost your dearly, but if your group can validate it, then it should save you some money, they has Starbucks and a cafeteria to serve breakfast and stuffs, they're looked rather smaller than some other Marriott, but looks like a lot of people enjoying their stay here for whatever reasons, had a bit breakfast snacks and coffee here, very refreshing and keeping me awake, if I need a place to crash during my Del Mar errands, I will try to stop here.
google avatar

Nancy T.

Yelp
Below standards for a Marriott. The rooms were unkept, housekeeping took over an hour to drop off simple things like toilet paper and the trash was literally never taken out. Parking cost $30 a night and the card reader was finicky, so it would often take us 5 to 10 minutes to scan in/out of the structure. Unfortunately, we had an especially bad experience, as the toilet in our room had major issues, so they had to send an engineer who took over two hours to arrive. When he finally showed up, he mentioned this room has had multiple plumbing problems over the past few weeks, but only offered to get us a new room if we continued to have more problems. Throughout our stay, neither the sink, shower, nor toilet ever seemed to drain properly. On top of everything, we were given a connecting room with a door in the middle and had a really rude neighbor who pounded on the door in the middle of the night, which made us feel unsafe. Given how upscale the surrounding area is, I would expect a lot more!

Yelp
This was the worst hotel I've been too in a long time, let me break down my entire experience. I have bad travel anxiety, I woke up the first morning with stomach pain. I went down to the front desk and noticed that they had yogurt for sale. I bought the yogurt and asked the lady if they had spoons. She said no. Not, one moment or let me see what I can do, just no. This is a 4-star hotel, with a restaurant and room service, and you're telling me you don't have a fucking spoon? I ended up finding a plastic fork from a meal I had the other day and used that. The next issue I had was with room service, I needed a bottle opener and called the front desk, went to voicemail. Annoyed I went down stairs and there was a dude just chillin behind the counter doing nothing. I got a bottle opener from him and went back to my room. Here's where the real fun begins: The next night I am finally getting comfortable, my stomach issues have subsided and I am looking forward to spending time with family. The power goes out. Pitch black in the room. Not a single announcement is being made over the PA system. So I find the stairwell and journey down to the main lobby with the rest of the patrons. There's a fire truck in the lobby driveway and maintenance workers walking around. Eventually an employee made an announcement (not using the PA, but by voice in the lobby) that there was a leak that had busted a fuse. I asked in front of everyone, "Does the PA system work?" To which the employee responded, "yes" I found that to be bullshit, because if it was you'd think he'd make those announcements over the PA. Plus the phones weren't able to call out I was furious, my stomach was in knots and my phone was at 30% battery, I needed power, I did not pay good money for this hotel to not only be treated badly but to sit in a dark room. Plus I did not feel safe sleeping on the 7th floor with no way of being notified is shit is happening. I expressed my concerns with the manager and she said she would set me up with a room at another hotel. I asked if it will be the same quality as the room I booked, she said yes. It was not the same quality After walking across an unfamiliar place with the stomach acids burning my insides, I made it to the double tree inn, which is a 3-star hotel. I had to change my room there because the room I got had noise issues, but to be frank, this review is about the Marriot Del Mar and not the double tree so I will be focusing mainly on the Marriot. What no one told me is that it was only for one night, and they thought I was out the next day. I was furious. I went to the Marriot and had more words with their manager. I had spent good money for this hotel so that I could be comfortable while in town visiting my family and my nerves were shot. I told the manager that I need a refund for the night because the service was not acceptable and they put me through alot of stress. They said unfortunately because I booked through a 3rd party that they could not refund me and that Expedia would have to reach out to them. The manager did set me up with a slightly bigger room the last night and gave me a voucher for $25 breakfast, however the shower in the room had issues with the knob, it wouldn't stay up on hot and the water would stay barely luke warm with no pressure. The breakfast I got was Parfait yogurt and sliced fruit. The amount of food I had received for that $25 was laughable. I had contacted Expedia and asked them to reach out on my behalf please, because the service was truly un acceptable. I received an email saying that unfortunately they will not be refunding my money for that night. I will never stay at the Marriot in Del Mar ever again, and I am extremely hesitant on doing business with Marriot in the future. Avoid this place at all costs.

Yelp
PROs: beautiful upscale hotel and lux modern rooms CONs: $30 a day parking, $10 a day for spotty wifi, TV freezes every 30 min, untrained staff Cleanliness: 3.5/5 I purchased 2 nights through Expedia. When I checked in, the girl told me I was only booked for one night. She said "sometimes Expedia does that, so you'll have to book another night", I told her I already paid $500+ for 2 nights on Expedia, and presented my booking confirmation. She tried doing some things but I didn't feel assured that this was going to get fixed. I had to ask "is everything okay?". Someone shadowing her fixed it, I let it go and assumed she was new. While a system glitch isn't her fault, she should've showed some sort of sympathy and reassurance. The guy who fixed it apologized and was kind. The room was pretty but there was a spot on a towel, the smoke detector was missing from the wall (literally cords dangling out), and the weird way the tissue was stuffed in the box seemed..unintentional?? Sink faucet had limescale. I bought a sandwich from the front desk on my second night. A tall man in a tan stripe suite barely acknowledged me. He asked me for my room number, I told him, and he turned away. Confused, I stood there thinking I need to 1)sign something, 2)pay with my card, or 3) BE ACKNOWLEDGED WITH A "THANK YOU". He did a double take and shooed me away like I was a child. When I checked out, I got Starbucks in the hotel. The girls working there were cold and overall unpleasant. I don't know if it's because I'm a young woman of color or if the staff is just severely untrained, but the service was not up to par with the aesthetic of the hotel or the price. Due to the service, I don't think I'll be returning. The only kind people I encountered were the valet staff, the guy who fixed my booking, and a woman at the front desk named Serena.

Yelp
This was the worst stay. Don't go to this hotel if you're looking to have a good time. The rooms are small with no windows to open or extractor in the bathroom. The complimentary waters were opened. The beds were not done properly full on lumps. The view was of a roof gravel. The fridge would keep turning off. The jacuzzi was out of order. The room service did not work for 2 days I was there. No information on complimentary breakfast. The parking is not free it's $32 every time you go in our out in self park or $42 for valet. At night no valet is on sight. When you complain the lady in the evening shift said come back and complain when the shift changes. So basically tell someone else she could not be bothered. Those beds were so uncomfortable and small not queen size. They have no robes or slippers. Not that we expect them but if you have a catalog where you're showing things in your hotel then have those things you're advertising. Staff was rude no one wanted to do any work but to stand behind the desk and say welcome. But they did not know how to do anything else. I travel a lot and this by far is one of the worst stays smh horrible

Yelp
This is the dirtiest hotel. The only thing updated is the lobby and maybe the shower in the room. The shower was covered in rust and mildew. The walls are paper thin and the carpet stinks. Do not stay here- there are hotels nearby that charge less and are clean.
google avatar

Yelp
Very overpriced for what you get. It's like a very nice 3.5 star hotel. The rooms are basic and outdated. The staff are friendly enough. The outdoor seating areas and the lobby are very elegant and very nice.
google avatar

John A.

Yelp
With an office in Del Mar area, this Marriott is super convenient for work. It has a restaurant and bar, which has good food and libations, good burgers. The lounge on the 11TH floor has breakfast, drinks, water, etc., but limited capacity seating maybe 15 people, and only open at certain times. The rooms are spacious and quiet. Parking is paid, and they have a valet if you prefer. There is also a Starbucks on site. It's about a $35 Uber ride from the gas lamp district if you want to head downtown.

Yelp
After viewing our room, we had assistance getting our luggage to our room. Brandon, the Valet called for the Bellman but got no response. So to help me, he got someone to man the outside area as he helped me with my bags. Brandon went above and beyond, therefore, he is a 10STAR in my book

Yelp
This hotel was super nice! The service was superb and every person we interacted with staff wise was incredibly kind and helpful. They have a snack area for late night munchies. They have a coffee shop right inside. They have a bar open up late for drinks. They have fire pits outside to hang out in or a pool and jacuzzi. They are dog friendly and reasonably priced especially if you want to stay in the Del Mar area and not spend an arm and a leg.

Yelp
Relatively new and nice looking hotel with a notably good pool area that had jacuzzi and covered/luxurious seating area. Seemed like lots of business customers, but we were here for family vacation and zoo/beach. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was great, which was included for platinum members since lounge was closed. Service was great. Convenient location not too far from highway

Yelp
I'll say right off the bat the lose a star for the outrageous price for parking. $42 valet and $35 for self-park. This hotel is 17 miles from downtown San Diego, and we did not see too many other options for parking in the area. As far as the hotel itself we were pleased with the service of the staff and the cleanliness and upkeep of the hotel. The room was comfortable, and the bathroom and amenities were great.

Yelp
Front desk clerk: lady was rude. Seriously need to retrain or replace with someone who can serve better service. Cleanness: Horrible. Had to switch up the room since the room wasn't properly cleaned, found hairs around the pillow area, trash under the seats and dusty fuenitures.. However, 2nd room had issues as well. 1. Shower head-dirty..so dirty.. 2. Shower stall-found strands of hairs.. 3. Cup-DO NOT use their plastic cups. I see that they reuse the plastic cup.. I terrified when I open and saw the condition of the cup. Never going this place again. Very disappointed with their service and to Marriott.

Yelp
This is the first time I have stayed here, choose it because my boss frequently stays here and for the electric car chargers. I loved the room it was modern, updated and very nice. I specifically loved the fact there was no carpet in the room. However, the 2 are rugs they have by the bed should be removed. A few times they slid as I went to step on them quite a hazard and even dangerous if someone were to fall and injury themselves. I loved how they have plastic cups to use to drinks and they even had a refrigerator. The bathroom was beautiful and spacious and allowed lots of light. I did have an issue with one of the toilet paper rolls well the holder and ended up sitting the roll on the counter. There are only 2 issues I have with the hotel. First, charging $30.00 to park is insane, this isn't in a downtown area. Perhaps 15.00 a night or not at all. Second, the electric car charging station. While I understand the hotel doesn't own it, but they can work with the vendor on better pricing. It was 1.50 an hour for the first 3 hours and then it went to 10.00 an hour. I'd be better off buying gas for that price. That was a huge disappointment as that was the main reason I booked the hotel.

Yelp
Sadly disappointed (Originally One Star Review)... Somewhat Mollified (upgraded to 3 Stars for this stay). One Star because: We have stayed at the Del Mar Marriott hotel many times for business. Came in this evening, to be told they were "oversold" and we didn't have a room....they were sending us to a random hotel 15 minutes away. Note: If this ever happens to you... FIRST read Yelp reviews of the place they want to send you to... it was late and I didn't do that. Mistake! Keep reading! Were told that four others coming in after us were going to be told the same thing... it is around 11 pm. This is a completely unacceptable practice for any traveler... in this case business travelers, who had made plans to meet team members/travel from the hotel location. We will have to come back tomorrow because this is a convenient location... and truth be told, not a bad place to stay. (Restaurant is surprisingly good). Update: It is almost midnight - the hotel we have been put into (thankfully only one night) is awful... smells musty, heater/air conditioner unit is so loud we turned it off. My heart goes out to the four people also "bumped" by Marriott tonight after us. Upgrade to Three Stars because: We had to drop off luggage at the Marriott before work... for check in later. We were given a voucher for $20 for coffee which was unexpected.. When I checked in after work, the room had been upgraded, there was a bottle of wine and a snack to apologize for the night before. I was helped by the gentleman at the check-in desk, who transported our suitcases to the room.... He was one of the folk from last night and again was pretty apologetic. The three stars are not for the food or apologies or upgrade... which were appreciated... the three stars are for the effort made by the team to make things right. I want to recognize that effort.

Yelp
For a hotel that had recently been through a renovation, I expected more. The last time I was here 2 years ago, the room was brand new, and the lounge was closed due to their renovation. We decided to give them another try in June of 2022. The room that we were initially assigned to was beat up and worn. The new room wasn't much better. The reading lamp on the bed were broken and looked like they were pulled out of the bedframe. The accent light on the bed was broken and seemed more like a strobe light. It was no where near the brand new room that we were in 2 years ago. I don't remember the M Club lounge that was supposedly open during my visit where I can grab a stash of snacks and soda. The only thing good may have been the Pharmacopia brand of soap, shampoo and conditioner that they provide. It just wasn't as good as my last visit and they were undergoing renovation at that time.

Yelp
We stay in more hotels while in San Diego when my brother visits. San Diego Marriott Del Mar and its team are incredible. With its blend of upscale contemporary, cleanliness, and quiet, The Concierge Lounge on the 11th floor, and the Arterra restaurant/bar in the evening, it has everything a guest needs. Also has quick access to the 5-freeway for a short jaunt to Del Mar and/or La Jolla. I'd like to give specific shout-outs to the Arterra dining team - Chris, Danielle, Marcel, and Ken. Thank you all for making our holiday one to remember and kudos to the Chef for the food!

Yelp
I stayed at Marriott San Diego Del Mar the 13th through the 16th of this month, I can't even express how amazing our vacation was. The hotel itself is so clean; the pool is the cleanest pool I've seen at a hotel. The staff here go out of their way to take care of you. I have to mention Dave Holmes, Jason Chang, Jay Vergara and Jennifer- they go above and beyond with customer service and make you feel so special when you arrive at the hotel. I would love to mention Fergie ,Brian Nickel ,Vlises Mejia, Andrew, Linda our waitress, and Aster. We will definitely be returning, it was such an amazing vacation. These people went way beyond the call of duty with amazing customer service. I would like to mention this is a beautiful building but it's what you put in the building to make it work and you have done an outstanding job by hiring the people you've hired; I hope these people get recognized. Each one of these people could go out and teach 101 classes to other establishments. I also would like to mention the sushi chef was absolutely beyond amazing. There was not one person in the hotel that was not sweet and accommodating, but these people went out of their way. Lynn from Seattle

Yelp
Overpriced and inhospitable. Where to begin. $4.37 for a small bag of chips for starters. We ate in the restaurant in the morning and felt rushed by the waitstaff to order, never saw him again during the meal and had to flag him over across the restaurant for the" bill. No one was helpful in any way in accommodating a simple request for our girls' soccer team. They said "This is more of a business hotel." All we were asking to do was show the girls a 15 minute video as a team as a fun way to start of their season. No conferences are here, only soccer teams and their families. We had a 2 night minimum to reserve our room block which was also annoying as we only needed 1 night. We won't be back at this Marriott for our many tournaments in San Diego. I have never left a review before & I feel conflicted about them at times, but I just had to say something about our experience here.

Yelp
David Holmes, Hotel Manager, you're a piece of ****. I hope your superiors find this review cuz you suck at your job. When I checked in I got... No info on parking, no info on wifi setup, no info on when checkout time is... Yea my wife's name is a bit different and not what you're used to lol it's because we aren't the "majority" ethnicity there, catch my damn drift? No need to say "Let's go with that". You know who I am lolll

Yelp
This hotel calls itself Marriott because of the prestige of the name, yet the customer service here is greatly lacking Marriott standards & quality. We stayed during January 13th to January 15th. We took our chihuahua puppy & paid the extra dog fee. There was no housekeeping in this room at all. The dog was sniffing in the corner by the sofa. There was a weed brownie that the previous guests had been snacking on. To make it worse it was a chocolate cookie which is deadly to dogs. Upon checkout this was brought to the attention of the front desk staff. Their magnificent solution was to remove the parking fee. There was not even an apology & it was visibly clear that they do not care nor even address concerns. Tried contacting the head manager for a refund regarding this stay. All we received was condescending attitude on the phone from the staff. They promised the manager would reach out. It is January 30th, no response. This Marriott is comprable to a Travelodge in all honesty. Avoid this hotel if possible it is obvious they put money before the safety of their guests & their pets.

Yelp
12-23-23 First time at San Diego Marriott Del Mar hotel and at the front desk was nice, generous, & very kind/attentive Marcella. I hope I'm spelling her name correctly. She was very helpful and awesome at customer service. I been to many Marriott's across the country & she's by far the best that helped me. Thank you so much Marcella for being very professional. I hope the hiltons doesn't let your hardwork go unnoticed. Everytime I stay in San Diego I hope she's the one helping me. Thanks again Marcella

Yelp
Really a sad conveyance of a typical Marriott experience. Warning. Rude front desk clerk with zero empathy for weary travelers. Likes to tell you what she can't do for you right off the bat. Warning 22.00 parking. Warning. Outrageously expensive bar Warning. It's NOT in Del Mar. Warning. Management can't or won't do anything to help. Been there maybe 6-8 times. Not going back. They just don't get it. Many other options. Try the doubletree across the street. They actually want your business.

Yelp
Mission Beach was our previous go to spot, but apparently in the summer the prices are outrageous. Now this isn't the west side Delmar with the upscale homes and gardens, it's the east business park side. So it's not as pretty, right off the freeway, not much views, but hey, it's still Delmar and it's certainly safe and clean. This is a business hotel, yet there were many kids running around, due to being out of school obviously. Still, it was nothing compared to the amount of kids at the Mission Beach hotels near Sea World. We checked them out and we were sooo glad we didn't end up there this time. Kids hog the pool too much and their just so vocal haha. This hotel has many things going for it..... The staff is friendly, this includes Bill the front desk manager and Roland, also at the front desk. The windows in the room are almost from ceiling to floor. We were on the 10th floor of 11 so it was nice and quiet, couldn't hear the construction below. The higher executive floors get breakfast, evening appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks. The breakfast was not as good as other Marriott's quality and variety wise, BUT, the appetizer/drinks in the evening was excellent. This was not one little appetizer, this was practically a full dinner. I remember Crown Plaza Redondo Beach executive floors had a bit better breakfast than here, but their evening appetizer was just that; one appetizer the chef chose, so you're not missing out being out and about during that time. Here the quality and variety was on point for dinner! The pool was big too with huge cabanas! They don't charge extra for cabanas, YEY! The cabanas had fans, heated lamps, TV's, sofas's! If you want a corner room it's an extra $50 per night, so no. If you want pool view, it's an extra $10 per night, not unreasonable, but we didn't do it because we forgot to ask. Very glad we chose this hotel and by accident too!!!

Yelp
Mood: Weekend in San Diego with Friends So the Marriott Del Mar was an okay stay. The rooms aren't as nice as they look on photos but it got the job done for a short weekend. We knew that during covid certain things wouldn't be made available but when we first checked in we noticed the coffee shop was open with muffins and snacks then the following days they did not have it. Service was okay. Front desk seemed a little irritated it seemed like we had to ask the same questions a few times for things to be resolved but ultimately It wasn't a terrible stay.

Yelp
The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. The beds are very comfortable and the bedding is luxurious. Be sure to get coffee at the cafe on premises

Yelp
For the price not worth it. None of the pics listed look like the room I stayed in. If you're looking to cool down the AC isn't very helpful here. The wifi wouldn't load to watch movies. There was hardly any water pressure. The room looks old. I will never let my husband choose the place to stay again. I couldnt sleep well because everytime someone left the building the whole building shook when the door shut. Not a happy hotel roomer.

Yelp
I was so disappointed with our stay here. We came during the pandemic and the room prices were so extremely high. Let's take room prices out of the equation, this rating is for hotel safety during the pandemic. I was already overly cautious about traveling and wanted to stay in a hotel that was doing all they could to take precautions for guest and staff safety. I noticed that the front desk did not really enforce folks to keep their mask properly on when we checked in. We got to our room, which was supposed to be thoroughly cleaned before arriving, and noticed there was still trash from the previous guest in the room! For the pandemic, that is unacceptable. They promised that the rooms are thoroughly cleaned but that cannot be the case if there are still drink containers in the room from the prior guests. We decided to go buy some clorox and lysol and clean down the new room that they put us in. Some guests didn't abide by the elevator rules and hopped in with us, making us have to get out and wait for an elevator. I get that they cannot control the guests but it seemed like they didn't have great options for ppl trying to get around safely.

Yelp
We stayed at this hotel for my wife's 34th week of pregnancy. She just wanted to chill at a decent pool and this was a perfect fit. We were there on a thursday and friday in mid July (during COVID). Pool was about full both days. There are 3 giant cabannas (FREE! but first come first serve). There were about 15-20 lounging chair around the pool. The pool is only 3-5 feet deep but big enough for making laps. There were also plenty of room for social distancing. Parking: free street parking is available on the cul de sac road in between residence inn and the Marriott. There were less than 20 spots but we didn't have a hard time finding one. I would think there is probably another street that have street parking too. cleanliness: felt very clean. Staff: very friendly. No bell desk though but I usually enjoy carrying my own luggages.

Yelp
I don't usually write any reviews, but this hotel honestly deserves the best rating , not only the rooms were very clean , organized and comfortable but also the service was superb , honestly I have never been in a hotel with this amazing and friendly staff . Will definitely go back there for sure .
