San Diego Mexican Restaurant & Taqueria

San Diego Taqueria in Okeechobee is an amazing spot for authentic Mexican food. The portions are huge, the flavors are delicious, and the prices are surprisingly low, truly a perfect balance of high quality and high quantity at a great value. The colorful menu with pictures makes it easy to choose, and everything we tried was fresh and satisfying. A must-visit whether you’re passing through Okeechobee or spending some leisure time by the lake. Definitely one of those hidden gems worth discovering.

UPDATE 1/22/26 We both had the Shredded Beef Burrito Bowl but without the rice (for our low carb life style). They were AWESOME as before! Awesome Buritto bowl. Husband had Taco salad in Taco shell bowl. Cold 🥶 beer. Good prices.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for a while now and it was pretty good. My daughter had a torta with carne asada and LOVED IT. Hubby had the seafood fiesta chimichanga, my son had the steak fajitas and I had shrimp tacos. All the main courses were great. If I had one critique it would be that the salsa and the frijoles were both bland. For a “gringa” to say that it’s bland it has to be lacking flavor. I love Mexican food and frequent restaurants a lot. I hope they season it up…heavier on flavor not heat. That’s the ONLY reason for the 4 stars instead of 5. Will go back in hopes that they are listening.

Finally gave this place a try last month and it was very good. My only complaint that night was the daycare they were running in the back corner of the restaurant and by the bar. They sat us right next to it and we had to deal with screaming and crying toddlers and older kids running around us the whole time. Thought it was just a fluke but it was like that the second time. It's not enjoyable when you are running your restaurant like that. I could have stayed at home for that. The third time we went and we were the only ones in the restaurant at dinner time. We had to repeat out simple order to the waitress 5 times and then twice to the other waitress that came by to confirm our order. Guess what - the order was all wrong go figure. We were starving by then and told them we would just eat what they brought us until we went to eat it and a majority of our food was either old tasting or cold. The only hot item on my plate was the enchiladas I didn't order. The rice was cold on both plates, the beans barely warm, the steak on our items was cold. The chicken in my enchiladas had been fried for some reason and fried beyond recognition. At this point we were so disappointed and not going to eat anything so we just got up and left. Horrible service and food that day. It is our last time going there. The place is nicely decorated but the bathroom is disgusting and smelt so bad like straight up poop and needed a good cleaning. The walls looked like a little kid smeared poop on them 🤮.

First time here and we will be back the food was fresh and the staff was very friendly. Portions were very big at the price point

A great Mexican restaurant in the centre of town. Love the decor. Service was good and plenty of choice on the menu, and everything was reasonably priced. The food was very well cooked and delicious. I'll definitely be back. Thank you

We stopped here on our way home and we were amazed by the food. We ordered the seafood fajitas and OMG 😱 it was delicious 🤤 and the orchata and agua de Jamaica was amazing. Serivice was on point and the price was even better. My husband and I shared the fajitas and we couldn’t finish it. The flavor was on point.

If you're looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant look no further. I was happy to come across this family owned restaurant . Their Horchata and agua de Jamaica are legit! So flavorful. I had their steak burrito and chicken burrito. I can tell the tortillas were made fresh to order. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is nice.

This place is closed now a different Mexican Restaurant now serves there! The Mi familia stills sells the authentic Mexican food and drinks at our local flea market -Food is good...and even though it's not in a restaurant they have good service..reminds me of a little Mexican plaza ...it would be nice to hear a little Mexican music while you eat there. They also serve fruit cups, fresh fruit waters, and freshly made churros if you get a sweet tooth. If you decide to eat there you go up to register and order your food and drinks. Once ordered you sit and they will call out your ticket number to get your food from the little food truck! The women in the food truck are sweet especially Lucy...Enjoy!

Was just there for lunch, and we enjoyed it. It was late for lunch but early for dinner so the place was quite empty. We were greeted immediately and sat in a very comfortable booth. We ordered a Margarita and it was delicious, with a hint of orange. I had a soda, and there were unlimited refills. Chips were brought to our table with two salsas, one chunky and one standard and both were good. I prefer my chips heated, but they were fresh and crispy nonetheless. We all ordered the two crispy taco shredded beef lunch meal that came with rice and beans. All was very well cooked, however the beef was a little tough for my preference. The service was attentive, the atmosphere was pleasant and very clean. Pricing was reasonable and I will surely be back All of us ordered.

My overall experience was really good but not great. To start off the hostess who was also my waitress was very courteous. My only complaint which isn't really bad was that she didn't pass by my table frequent enough. I was the only one dining in. Let's talk Food! They bring chips and salsa to start you off. It needed a dash of salt but it was still good. I read a previous review about their chips and salsa and I received anything but good. Some people expect real chunky salsa, but when you break it down "salsa" is a purée of different ingredients. Of course everyone is different! Some like it more like a Pico de Gallo or a mix of Pico and Salsa which gives you chunky salsa, but it was good. Just some salt on the chips. Red Salsa was Mild and Green Salsa was Fire! It catches you off guard. I ordered the Fajita Trio (Chicken, Steak and Shrimp) Which came with Rice and Beans. It didn't disappoint! It was delicious and flavorful. The tortillas on the other hand unfortunately didn't make the cut. They look and feel homemade but the mix isn't quite right. They were a little too dry and when they get cold they get stiff and even more hard to swallow. I had their Agua de Piña and Limon. They were very good and refreshing. I really wanted to try their Churros with Icecream... no icecream I tried a Churro... it was sweet and craving more! It just needed those extra components that would've made my experience "great" but overall I definitely recommend "Mi Familia". Go on by and let me know what you think!

First time here and was not disappointed. Liked it all rapeo the tamarindo and green sauce

Food was excellent and I'm picky about my Mexican food. Staff was friendly and super accommodating. Restaurant was clean and staff wore masks. Social distancing seemed to be observed. I would come again!

The food is top notch authentic!! Absolutely delicious! The customer service is also on point!

Nice people. Tasty food. A little overpriced for the area. If you are gluten-free be careful! They do put flour in the corn tortillas so you have to ask for corn only!

The overall experience for us was good. However very little selection and portion size vs price probably questionable. However fresh ingredients taste ok and helpful staff

I was really disappointed with the food and service at this restaurant. To begin let me start with the most common thing at a Mexican restaurant because if you screw that up you are in for a big disappointment "The salsa and chips. Let me tell you what I ordered and then you can understand what I'm talking about. (A) Fajita Trío "Chicken, Steak and Shrimp" (B) Tacos mix type of different meats 1) The salsa was pretty much just tomatoes purée since I didn't see or taste the onions, cilantro, garlic, jalapeño pepper's or anything else for that matter. 2) when I got my order it was in a regular plate 1/2 rice, 1/4 refried beans and 1/4 meats, no lettuce or sour cream or anything. Usually you get the rice, beans, lettuce and sour cream in a plate like the one I got and your meats comes in a Skillet sizzling or something but, this time it was wrong the meats was so little that literally I received 4 pieces of chicken, 4 of steaks and 3 shrimps, as for the onions and peppers about the same 3-4 pieces of each. 3) The tortillas were thick like Jonny cakes or similar to a pita bread and out of the three tortillas I only used 2 since there was barely any meat. 4) The tacos were even worst than the fajitas and I think they probably didn't have enough meat or anything in the kitchen since these tacos were pretty much empty for the lack of meat and they ended up putting cabbage instead of onions and cilantro. 5) The service was wrong like the girl never received any training. Simply put it is shameful and I will never stop by this restaurant again not even for water..

Love the food and environment. All of the staff is welcoming and very helpful. This is real authentic Mexican food. I highly recommend this restaurant
