As a teenager I went there with my childhood girl (friend or at least i hoped haha). I wanted to buy her a fur jacket i remember then I saw the price was like 20k ! The mall was at its peak. Bustling etc. 30 years later yes its a lot more empty and on its knees to some extent. but the historical building is still here, beautiful and reminds me of my past romance. To visit if you are in the area, just the architecture itself is beautiful and shop in the last remaining shops.

Matt B

Google
An astoundingly beautiful mall, located innocuously on Market St. in the middle of downtown SF. There’s a couple dozen stores left open inside the stunning building and a food court. If you can make your way up to the top floors, you can enjoy the beauty of the building’s dome and an abandoned (closed) movie theater entrance.

Jorrit van Eijk

Google
The mall is largely empty, shops and stores are closed. It's a beautiful mall but complete floors and escalators are closed down due to lack of shops.

Playmo Billy

Google
Located near the ‘zombie area’ of town, unfortunately this lovely mall has been majorly affected by constant shop lifting and most of the retail spaces are vacant. It feels like ghost town. No clients and several security roaming the space to prevent further loss to the few retailers still open.

Jeff Meyer

Google
A real mall of the damned vibe with the majority of storefronts empty. I did appreciate the public restroom on the second floor.

Lilia Mora-Lopez

Google
Do not go! WASTE OF TIME!!! Mall was huge but was empty. Only like 5 stores scattered were open. Huge waste of time. I came here with my bf without looking at the reviews (HUGE MISTAKE) overall very disappointed. Do not waste your gas or time coming here!

H Wong

Google
This is one of the dreariest, more depressing malls I’ve visited. Amazing location but most of the stores have shut down. Only a few stores left that I can count on my hand. Not even a public restroom available. We wasted our time walking here. Don’t make the same mistake.

Jon

Google
Not very good for shopping because less than 1 in 5 spaces are occupied by a vendor ( not counting the two empty floors they have closed off). It is a great place to go to escape the crowds and the weather or if you hate capitalism. Very mellow. The shake shack is open.

Yelp
Very nice mall, has a dope food court on the bottom floor too I think, gotta at least stop by when you're in town

Yelp
Emporium Centre San Francisco, formerly known as San Francisco Centre, is a shopping mall in San Francisco, California. Anchored by Bloomingdale's, it offers convenient access to the Powell Street station through an underground entrance on the concourse level. It's beautifully designed with impressive architecture, but the only downside is that much of it is empty.
google avatar

Yelp
This once lively place has been going down hill over the years. It's really sad to watch. Week by week (month by month), stores have been closing. "Let's spend a day at the mall" is no longer a thought or even doable. About 80% of the stores here are shutdown. It's quiet and dark. "Fast fashion" and Bloomingdale's are the major stores open.
google avatar

Yelp
Dropped by the other day and was disappointed in how SF's flagship mall has now come into disarray... Numerous anchor tenants have left the mall, including Nordstrom and Century Theaters. Numerous parts of the mall were off limits including loos, entrances to the BART/MUNI. Security presence was everywhere from mall security at each entrance of the mall. Almost every tenant inside the mall also had a private security guard as well...

Yelp
Beautiful mall! They even had the curving escalators, which are very rare! The store were spread out! Very clean mall! You can shop at Zara, Lululemon, H+m, Victoria's Secret and even get your eyebrows threaded! It's located in the heart of Union Square! Lots going on
google avatar

Yelp
With the closing of so many stores in SF, and with so many big anchor tenants leaving this downtown mall, I started thinking about the beautiful dome located at the top level of this mall. This dome was constructed originally for The Emporium department store back in 1896, which closed in 1996. Then when the Westfield mall took over, it was incorporated into the new building. The dome is still gorgeous and modeled after the one in Paris. I hope that whomever takes over this building keep this historic and beautiful art piece alive.

Yelp
8/3/223 It's been a very long time since the last visit.. maybe 2010?.. Coming from my city that has one indoor and one outdoor mall ..is eye dropping.. The fun times of shopping in Sac and Roseville.. A lot of changes and very busy downtown.. I have never seen so many security guards walking and standing guard of some high end stores. It was nice to see some different retail shops too. More tourists from different countries happily browsing and shopping.. Glad I had time to visit..

Yelp
Pathetically sad. Rapidly moving toward blight. Most of the stores have moved out. The remaining stores have lonely employees standing around as if in one of those abandoned Midwest shopping malls. Why would anyone come to this dump then spend over $150 on a pair of shorts at psycho kitty? The Adidas store is gone, so there's literally zero reason for me to ever come here again. Heading out I decide to walk through Bloomingdale's. Security teams guard the doors, and employees stand around and chat. Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m., the employee to customer ratio is 200 to 1. There are more security guards in this store right now than there are customers.

Yelp
Due to the pandemic, this mall has really gone downhill. A lot of the eateries both upstairs and downstairs have closed. So, too, have the shops. My favorite places such as the high end eateries upstairs and Ghirardelli ice cream shop and Williams and Sonoma and the specialty market have all closed down. This place has become a ghost town and I'm not sure why anyone would come here anymore other than to go to the movie theatre or maybe Bloomingdale's. Truly sad.

Yelp
Westfield Mall SF soon closing entire mall for shopping. https://www.instagram.com/reel/ctadefwlpev/?igshid=mzrlodbinwflza== Westfield plans to pull out of San Francisco, the company citing significant decreases in sales, foot traffic and occupancy level. Nordstrom also closing both of its stores in downtown San Francisco.

Yelp
The building features great architecture with a beautiful dome and great light and space. Unfortunately several shops have closed, but the ones still there are striving to make things work and have great service with friendly and attentive staff. The security has been greatly improved and it feels safe and clean. We need to support the remaining shops and restaurants and hope that new amazing tenants and business move in soon!

Yelp
I was sooo looking forward to this mall since I haven't been to it since I was a kid, but I was thoroughly disappointed! There were so many stores closed in such a nice mall and the bathrooms were closed for "maintenance" the entire time I was there. The food court had some good options but the prices made everything hard to enjoy. We ended up getting a slice at Blondie's which was good but also a bit pricey for just a slice. Overall I wouldn't recommend but it was still a good place to get my steps in!

Yelp
Its a nice sized mall. One of my favorites to visit in sf due to the connection of Bart on the food court level. This makes it a fun stop to grab a bite in the food court, before venturing onto Bart. Recently visiting here, the mall security has been posted at the food court checking "covid papers" which to me seems a mute point, when there are transients in the mall actively spitting on people while walking by. So thats a problem, saw nothing done even as the lady who was spat on complained. Many of the hallmark shops are still present, but noticed many of the smaller shops that I remembered were for lease and closed down, due to a year of being closed. Overall, I enjoy visiting this mall when making a trip into the city with its wide variety of shops and restaurants.

Yelp
Mall isn't as lively as previous years. It's almost an inconvenience just to stop by here with the cost of parking, potential break-ins and access to and from public transportation, overall maintenance, and lack of products. You can tell by the surrounding areas including the once filled Union Square. The City of SF and dare I say California fails to come up with better solutions and leaves its problem to fend for itself but that's a separate topic. Very few selection left in the mall as many stores have left feels like a shell of its former self and had potential- but feels more as though it'll become a ghost mall. Which is a shame due to its location and interior spaces (gorgeous dome and spiral escalator.) Also I wasn't able to access the sky terrace earlier today (which is supposed to be one of the Priv-Pub Open Spaces. However- saving grace is despite all of these- are the people- the workers (both retail/food/security) are -usually- very genuine, nice, and helpful. And the fact I use the entrance and exits to jump between Market and Mission.

Yelp
I love this shopping center. Located right in Union Square this is the place to be. They have all the high-end stores you typically expect from a large mall. Nordstrom is the largest retailer in the store taking up most of the upper floors. As you go on the escalator all the way to the top my head was spinning from how high we were. We ended up going to the movie theater on the top floor and that was a trek as this mall has so many floors to go through. They currently allow you to go up to the rooftop but the view from there is not the best. They have tables spaced out and during the day it is not too hot and sunny. It is nice to dine outside during these times. They have a large food court downstairs with seating as well. They have several restaurants that I was not familiar with. I was impressed with all the different types of cuisines presented here such as NooBowl, Umai Savory Hotdogs, and Koja Kitchen. I ordered a California style hot dog from Umi Savory Hotdogs and was very impressed. My favorite time to stop by is during the winter holidays. You can see the famous upside-down Christmas tree from the roof. There are lights hanging down from every floor. I loved the architecture of the dome on the top floor. I saw lots of people taking pictures there. There is a short walk to the movie theater down the hall where we ended up finishing our Friday night. This is a nice place to visit if you are shopping downtown in San Francisco.

Yelp
A large mall in Union Square of San Francisco's City area. It has everything from Razor, a technology company that sells gaming hardware and other electronics to Burberry, a luxury fashion brand, to bath and Body Works, the go-to for everything with a nice aroma and beautiful fragrance to a 3 or 4 floor Nordstrom. The food court is on the lower level. There are plenty of food options such as Bearded Papa cream puffs, Chinese food, noodles, Boba, Shake Shack, etc. The mall was beautifully decorated with a Christmas tree and beautiful lights and bright decorations hanging. I visited every floor and explored the mall the whole day as it was raining. I enjoyed walking around and just looking at the decorations and checking out a bunch of stores during a rainy day. I also did some people-watching when I got tired. This mall was where I saw the most people I've ever seen during my trip to San Francisco - or well, Union Square in general; I guess this is where everyone hangs out. Great place to hang out when you have some downtime or when it's raining.

Yelp
Quick take: holiday decorations I don't really shop at the mall much these days. I will always go inside to look at holiday decorations. I'll also find my way to the dome. We grab a table and just hang out in the dome for a little bit. It's always breathe taking everytime. It's beautiful!

Yelp
This isn't a proper, thorough review of the mall, but I just wanted to share some of what I experienced today. At the top floor, where there used to be dining options, it's now a place to sit and enjoy your food from the food court or just relax. It's a beautiful area with a huge upside down Christmas tree. I'm not a big mall person so I didn't do justice to all the shopping options. I did enjoy the Nordstrom store; very festive, classy holiday decorations. I also had to try a hot dog at Umami Savory Hot Dogs. I got the Umami Truffle Dog and Umami Fries. I was offered a fork and declined it; big mistake. You need one for the fries as they have a lot of sauce. The meal was tasty but a bit rich. It was really fun to try but due to how rich it was, it's not my type of thing. This is definitely one of the nicest malls I've visited with a great mix of cool stores and food.

Yelp
Probably one of the best malls around. No its not perfect but its got a lot of good that out weigh the bad. Easy to access if your using Bart. If you live near any Bart station anywhere in the bay it means this place is just steps away - and you only have to pay pennies to get here. Upscale stores and lots of them. Everything you would expect a mall to have - including food options. There is a heavy police presence in this whole general area so things are as safe as they ever could be. The San Jose shopping mall is probably similar to this one and a good option for you if you want lots of shopping and designer options but just don't like the city for whatever reason. If you really aren't a city person there is always the San Francisco outlets in Livermore but its a long drive to get there and I think the nearest Bart would be for Dublin. The pandemic is moving past us - its time to get out there again and support some brick stores. You ordered everything off Amazon the last few years - lets change it up.

Yelp
Very nice shopping center in San Francisco. I went to this place multiple times before. But never got a chance to its very top. It was a fun today when I had time to take the escalators all the way to the top level and the dome. Highly recommend it to you when you have free time in the city and spend an afternoon there.

Charles D.

Yelp
Fun spot to find what you need! Polite customer service reps! Unlike luckys on Fulton ! The cashier was soooo rude and over charged 20$ worth of items.

Yelp
This review is for the women's shoe department. I had a really great sales associate help me with a pair of CDG Converse. He was friendly, enthusiastic, and just very personable. Unfortunately I didn't catch his name, but I really liked his energy and his attentiveness.

Yelp
Checked out the mall for the first time since a couple xmas's ago. There is a good amount of vacancies, and most of the patrons appeared to be tourists. You could easily tell that they were. We did buy some food at shake shack. The workers were very friendly. Most malls will need to re-imagine themselves as they can't sell the things you can get online. Some malls have kpop / japan type stores or other types of stores that sell some items not readily available online.

Drake Sterling S.

Yelp
Literally fuck this store(sorry). Came at 7:40 to pick up my package for in-store pickup(supposed to have made shipping faster and easier for me) and they didn't let me pick up the package. They said that they were done doing business for the day. Just frustrating after rushing to the store to get there in time after a long day of work. Manager was "nice" but she could have just scanned the package in and handed me it. As someone who has worked in customer service and now in healthcare, you need to be accommodating until the last minute. We're ALL tired.

Yelp
The Westfield is an upscale mall located in downtown San Francisco's Union Square. Though it has a sleek design, the place has been around a while and is an outdated mall. There is a movie theater and famous brands there like Nordstrom's and Bloomingdale's. I took a quick wander inside and it is definitely an above average shopping center with a lot of good options and a decent sized food court. The best thing about it were the unique spiral escalators.

Yelp
I heard Westfield Mall is closing in San Francisco and it's so shocking! I was there when this mall opened that's been a beautiful gem of a shopping mall, top notch that helped the community in many ways. I've visited recently to note hardly any shoppers were there that made me feel like I was in a Twilight Zone episode again since the pandemic. I don't understand why people were staying away from this mall since it has a food court, movie theatre, spa. It's fun to visit no matter what. It's not normal that there were so few people in this mall and it was creepy! I figure people stayed away due to fears of criminal entry to rob stores that's dangerous to shoppers. I noted high security there on the property. I blame Gavin Newsom refusing to enforce shoplifting laws and threats against anyone who does! This man needed to be removed from office! This is a huge loss for San Francisco! The Body Shop paid for a new lease 2 years ago that is shutting down this Sunday June, 18, 2023.
google avatar

Mallory B.

Yelp
I heard they may be closing this mall. It's such a shame. I used to go here all the time as a kid. It's too bad, I feel like all the shops will close soon enough and we'll only be left with Amazon. :(
google avatar

Fran L.

Yelp
What a grand, fabulous and beautiful downtown mall of San Francisco at Powell street. It's a wonderful place to spend entire Sunday afternoon free from hustle and bustle of the rest of the downtown. I love its convenience and location. The shoppers are very few and quiet. The helpers are extremely nice and polite. The entire mall is too big to see in one visit. I will definitely come back to browse everything from everywhere! I also liked the people watching. Try, you must.
google avatar

Joyce T.

Yelp
Nice place to enjoy good food and shopping. Connect to Bart. Be careful if you get outside of the building, lot of unsheltered people along the market street with strong marijuana smells and they are shouting at people with bad language.
google avatar

Elaine Y.

Yelp
The rooftop terrace is is a great option to dine Al Fresca, especially during this pandemic. Lots of tables and seats for groups too. However, I wish there were more shaded areas as it can be very bright and sunny. Elevators are next to the Poke eatery. Just follow the signs to the 9th floor and bring your food. Happy safe eating!

Yelp
After a 5 year hiatus visited today December 1, 2021. It's 3 weeks before Christmas. You'd expect the place to be bustling, cheery and bright. Nope. Actually feels kind'a dismal. No spark, no electricity, hardly fun. When I was here in 2016 the food court in the basement had lots of interesting kiosks and a big market / eatery. Market is gone. The various corporate booths all looked & smelled like airport food vendors. I bought a way overpriced lemonade and got the hell out. Not destination worthy even for the most dedicated shopper.

C S.

Yelp
Visited the Westfield mall and the food court tonight and was so happy to see so many stores and food vendors open! Im not sure why the media is saying this mall is closed because its very much open! I was expecting a ghost town but that isnt the case. Yes, some stores are permanently closed but many are still open and most of the food court vendors are still there too. Tonight we got dan dan noodles from NooBowl, halal Pakistani food, and Hokkaido cheese tarts. All very good! We did some shopping at Madewell, Bloomingdales, Coach, Vans, and Jcrew. Lots of other stores were open too. The mall had a ton of security on site and every store had their own security too. Needless to say, I felt incredibly safe. The food court custodial staff kept all the tables very clean and tidy. A+ Overall, I was impressed. I had a really pleasant evening of shopping with no crowds, good food, and great service. Thank you!
google avatar

Mayanne K.

Yelp
Not a great or successful shopping experience. There are security guards at many of the stores. I even witness a shoplifter run out of the store, alarms went off, and security chased after him. The mall just seemed deserted. The food court options were great, however there are people walking around asking for money, the outside of the restrooms just smell like urine. We ate what we ordered and just left as soon as possible.
google avatar

Bella J.

Yelp
I expected better from a shopping center in San Francisco. They just have the same old boring stores as usual, instead of interesting boutiques and prices are high, service is not good. So I don't really see a point in shopping here unless you needed something desperately. In short, shop here for necessity but not for fun.
google avatar

Trev T.

Yelp
American Eagle and The LEGO store are about the only places worth visiting. My serious issue is that they were playing Christmas music on October 14th. That's way WAY too soon. Apparently they're trying to drive everyone else out.
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
I have been going to this Westfield Shopping Mall for so many years... and I still continue on to go shopping around at this Westfield Shopping Mall... Not only that the one thing that... I really like most about the Westfield Shopping Mall location of San Francisco Ca Usa is when they decorate the Westfield Shopping Mall with it's beautiful Christmas Lights during the Happy Holiday Season!!! When the Happy Holiday Season is over with and when the Christmas Decoration is been taken away... It gets replaced with it's Chinese New Year decoration which is very nice as well!!!
google avatar

Steff A.

Yelp
I've been visiting the Westfield San Franisco Centre for years and it's still a consistent stop whenever I'm in the city... This massive mall is gorgeous in design and social media moments are a plenty. The spiraling escalators to the upper levels is functional art in itself. The store selection is massive and up to date with the latest and greatest. I'm sure rent is expensive so "if you're not first, you're last." -Ricky Bobby The holiday decor is fantastic if you happen to be visit during the season. The inverted Lighted Christmas tree displayed on my visit was fantastic. The food emporium is packed with plenty of eating options for everyone. I've never traveled here by car but parking anywhere in the heart of SF is going to be a nightmare.com...I'd suggest the Bart and Uber everywhere when you visit the awesome Westfield San Francisco Centre. Cheers!

Yelp
Oh mind effing God! Listen up, folks. Now the homeless are literally using the elevators as a toilet. That's right. The janitors are now finding human feces inside of the elevators. This has been going on at least twice a week from what I hear from some of the staff. If you do decide to come to this mall, use the stairs or escalators. DO NOT use the elevators. You have been warned.
google avatar

Jacqueline F.

Yelp
I came here for the first time when it was Emporium Capwells. That's how young I am! So when my husband said he was at the Westfield, I had no idea what he was talking about. But I found it and memories came flooding back. It's good for the walking, I probably wouldn't shop here, don't go to chain stores or go to SF for much, but they provided a nice trip down memory lane.
google avatar

Gerald H.

Yelp
In all the things I had on my list I made while in town, this is the one I wish I could have spent more time doing. Very nice three story mall like building with stores, food, and so hiGh end designer places as well. I only was able to spend time in two of the stores due to time, but if I ever were to make it back - I would stop here for an extended period of time. The mall was very busy, and very clean, however I can't speak to the bathroom cleanliness or anything as I only came in and out to take care of business. Really cool looking indoor shopping and again three floors Would be huge for me as a shopper
google avatar

Frankie L.

Yelp
We went here to pass time as we waited on the trolley. This mall has a lot of stores: Artizia, Zara, and other contemporary fashion stores. I definitely want to revisit. The service folk were very helpful when directing us around the mall.
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
I was just leaving Westfield after a 12 hour shift and was going to BART. I was shocked when I saw two Westfield security guards(one Asian twen male and one Asian teen female) just push through without paying. I then remarked "wow you two are security at Westfield and just broke the law". As I was walking down the escalator the Asian male turned around and shouted at me "mind your business N word" with the "GGA" not the hard "ER" but that doesn't matter. I worked loss prevention for Nordstrom for years until they closed down recently.
google avatar

Xander M.

Yelp
This is the worst mall I've been to in my whole life. I don't think this qualifies as a mall. Half of it is closed, half the shoppers are just homeless people. If you're from a small city, you might be impressed. Good luck to all the "stores."
google avatar

Dave T.

Yelp
I especially like the Westfield Centre food court. It is very International. They used to have a Loving Hut, which I especially liked because I am a vegetarian. They also have the only public bathroom in Downtown San Francisco besides the outdoor toilets. It is sad that the mall has fallen on hard times.
google avatar

Nadine Y.

Yelp
This is a huge mall located in San Francisco that offers a variety of stores that most other places don't have. Since it is in the city, you should expect to find parking in the parking garage that is located across the street from the mall. The stores offered here range from high-brand stores, macys, nordstrom, and they have a huge food court. The mall itself is really huge being 2-3 stories tall. Nordstrom does take up a huge part of the store though so keep that in mind. Overall, this store does get pretty packed and sometimes it will be a long wait to get into the store because of Covid. I do recommend coming here though if you can't find a store that isn't near you because this mall will most likely have it.
google avatar

Foofa B.

Yelp
In comparison to the shopping centers in Southeast Asia and (if comparing apples to apples) to the Valley Fair shopping centre in San Jose, the Westfield San Francisco is very outdated and pretty disappointing. The shops/stores are few as many are now out of business, the food court looks tired and there are more shoplifters than actual shoppers. Skip this mall and visit Valley Fair in San Jose instead!
google avatar

J Y.

Yelp
Shoppers beware ! I got thrown at with jumbo size gummy bears several times from a group of teenagers who hangs around in this mall regularly. I reported the incidents to the security managers twice with videos, but nothing was done.
google avatar

Andrea U.

Yelp
That was some mall!! Beautiful, well laid out. Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, J Crew, Lululemon, Kiel's .... Most stores had terrific sales. An armed security presence, disappointed there weren't places to sit, they obviously want shoppers not people hanging out.
google avatar

Carissa T.

Yelp
The amount of homeless people here baffles me. The smell at some places of the store is horrible because of them. Theres alot of security so i guess theyre allowed to stay there. But if they are there should be more cleaning. The stores were normal. Just like any other mall.
