Modern & contemporary art museum with innovative exhibits and living wall

"I can visit SFMOMA to see the show centered on Matisse's Femme au Chapeau (Women With a Hat), another highlight of San Francisco’s revitalized cultural programming." - Arati Menon, Megan Spurrell

"The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is listed as a world-class museum that can easily consume a whole day for visitors exploring the city’s cultural offerings." - CNT Editors
"In the heart of SoMa lies the city’s most iconic museum, SFMOMA. Founded in 1935 by Grace McCann Morley, it original occupied San Francisco's War Memorial building before settling in its SoMa location in 1995. In 2016, the museum grew exponentially with the opening of a Snøhetta-designed expansion. The renovated space features a free-to-the-public ground floor and 170,000 square feet of exhibition space. Of note is the Doris and Donald Fisher Collection, which features nearly 1,100 works of postwar and contemporary art (260 of which were on view in the museum's inaugural presentation in 2016). It’s easy to spend an entire day in the museum, where photography, media art, architecture, sculpture, and more are showcased in rotating exhibitions. You’ll inevitably work up an appetite; satiate it at Corey Lee’s James Beard Award-winning In Situ, featuring a menu of the world’s most famous restaurant dishes." - Airbnb

"At SF MoMA he was an art-lover who spent time exploring the galleries and would linger over works—he was noted for staring lovingly at The Butler’s in Love—showing the same depth of attention to art as he did to cocktails." - Paolo Bicchieri

"SFMOMA stands out among other elite museums in the city for its innovative, exciting exhibits in a cutting-edge building. Located by a BART station and right off MUNI bus lines, it's accessible in a busy downtown location. Architecture firm Snøhetta spearheaded an innovative expansion, which includes a two-story-high and half-block-long "living wall" covered in native plants, as well as fiberglass-reinforced panels on the exterior that evoke the waters of the Bay. The collection is full of heavy hitters and the Museum Store is packed with wonders, ranging from Lichtenstein-inspired vases to glowing book-shaped lamps, delicate silver necklaces to a chess set with San Francisco landmarks for pieces. Spending an entire day here is certainly not out of the question." - Kimberley Lovato, Carey Jones
