"The Noceti Group, organizers of the San Joaquin Asparagus Festival, announced via Facebook their intention to host the Gilroy Garlic Festival themselves. This announcement was later clarified, stating that it was similar to their efforts in reviving the Stockton Asparagus Festival. The group faced criticism for not coordinating with the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association." - Paolo Bicchieri

There was so much great food available, with other Vendors as well!!! Harmony Waist Beads, A.D. & Me Photos, as well as a host of other's, just to name a few!!! There was great music, face painting, and four different bounce houses for the children!!! We really enjoyed ourselves!!!

the fair was great ! i haven't been to the stockton fair for a couple of years now but everyone should go & give the fair a second try. The fair wasn't the same anymore but this time around i went & it was so much fun. The set up was great, they had all the cool amusement rides & for the little ones they had a bunch of different inflatable houses! They also had a "Market Place" which had a bunch of small businesses selling their items. There was so many cute stuff it was hard not to break the bank ! There was a variety of food stands, which all included tacos, pizza, loaded potatoes, funnel cakes, aguas frescas, shaved ice & etc. The Too$hort concert was really great, the atmosphere was all amazing. I had seen all the staff running around making sure everything went accordingly and i would say they did amazing ! Next time around when the fair rolls up again you should definitely give it a try for yourself ! you never know it may be your favorite place from now on(:!

Just attended the Seafood Festival at the Stockton fairgrounds. Photos are of food not fairgrounds. I brought home a Philly cheesesteak with shrimp, gumbo and seafood macaroni and cheese. Parking lot is dusty with small rocks so you have to drive fairly slow. Weather was too hot for me and not enough shaded areas. I left after about an hour.

Best place in Stockton to get deals! Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday every week. Get there as early as 5 am to watch the pro-pickers work or join in with them! Feel free to ask questions. Everyone is always excited to share their newly found treasure. You never know what'll be out there! It's always different in the area that storage unit buyers put out their items. Or arrive a little later, and enjoy the wares from every vendor. Household goods, fruits and vegetables, everyday items. Stay long enough and you'll hear: DOLLAR! DOLLAR! DOLLAR! Follow the crowd to that sound as it's usually a storage unit buyer who just said everything he has left is $1 !!!!! It's cheaper for him to sell at a dollar than it is to pick everything up and take it to the dump on his we way to get his newest storage unit! What comes after DOLLAR? FREE! FREE! FREE!

Yelp
Regarding the recent San Joaquin county fair: The area inside of the metal building I thought would've been an excellent place to showcase the arts and crafts of local residents but instead it was dimly lit and filled with mattresses and pots and pans for sale. Real, real let down. It was basically a money grab-cave. Tents for army enlistment and police academy applicants. There were a lot of police on site and a handful were on horseback which was a nice touch. The food vendors were a bit of a disappointment. The one in the middle had the BEST corndogs I have ever had. Dog flavor A+, and the breading was like homemade cornbread. The funnel cake, delish. Prices reasonable. The other two vendors I visited had lousy customer service, made mistakes ringing me up and their lemonade was watered down and tasted like plastic.. for all the good food trucks in stockton, I thought some of them would of showed up at the county fair??? Most of the rides were quite good. A few missed the mark. The old fashioned Ferris wheel ride was positively lovely. They had a balloon man and a unicycle riding juggler stroll through. Ok. The petting zoo, phhbbtt. It wasn't that late in the day and they just were not interested in food. But the attendants had been selling, I kid you not--one cup of feed per $5 to each person before us. Those animals didn't want to look at food or smell it. In all fairness they should of stopped selling the food at that point. Bottom line, yes, you could easily spend a couple hours here just for the rides, but it's Russian roulette in regards to the food. They should've upped their game, honestly.. We'll see what it's like next year.

Yelp
I went here for the Asparagus Festival. It was decent size with spots for games and rides. There was a whole row of food and beverages of your choice. They also have exhibit areas in different buildings. The parking is gravel based and very dusty. Don't wash your car ahead of time.

Yelp
Worst fair ever. Looked on line and read they opened at 10:00 am upon arrival we saw a group stood at the front gate where we all waited for 20 min and each person on their phone saw a different time depending on the web site. Finally a worker drove by and said they did not open until 3 pm. No signs no help! Allot of frustrated people. Won't be back! I can spend my money outside the area where things start at an appropriate time with clear operation times.

Yelp
San Joaquin is a huge fairground that host tons of summer events and festivals. I recently came in April to experience the Asparagus Festival. EVENT: ASPARAGUS FESTIVAL! DATE: April 18th, 2015 Admission was fairly reasonable and consist of: $10 for adults and $5 for children. The lines to get into the festival was INSANE! It was such a discouragement to even stand in the lines and many people turned back around. The Asparagus festival recently moved to the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds this year and I have to say that this event had TONS of people that came. The fairgrounds was a perfect location for this event as it had tons of space and buildings. There was a section for children to play on one side, they had many different food venders: ~Asparagus Lumpia ~Free Race Tickets ~Car Show ~Margarita and Beer stand ~Pies ~Fruit cup (yummy) ~Tacos and Nachos They also had a BIG HOT room for where they were selling Fried Lumpia. The line itself was long as hell and was up to a 2 hour wait for it. Although the line was moving quickly. I really hope to see better improvements in the following years to come. I understand that it was there first time doing this event in the location and they probably weren't expecting so many people to show. I will be back to give it another try next year!

Yelp
Quite impressed! They have done such a great job moving to this location. First all the space, all the parking no hassles of downtown. Much easier to get in and out of. They have added more asparagus based foods this year. Plus there id an air conditioned building to sit and eat your fried asparagus! Lots of security and police roaming the grounds so no worries about safety as some might not like the locale. Plenty of space between vendors so you don't feel crushed. They still have room to expand if they want which is great.

Yelp
My friends and I came here this past weekend for the Asparagus Festival. We arrived when the festival opened, and I'm glad we did because there was a crazy amount of people as the day went on. We were slightly disappointed at the lack of food booths that had asparagus. The Jamaican and Filipino food booths were the only ones we saw that incorporated asparagus into their food. I tried the tri tip sandwich with asaparagus and the asparagus lumpia. The lumpia was very good. It was crisp and went well with whatever sauce they served it with. I was not a huge fan of the tri tip sandwich, because it was served cold. All of us had the fried asparagus and asparagus ice cream. We enjoyed both items and we were happy that we tried it early in the day, because in the afternoon the lines for the fried asparagus was crazy! The festival had a decent selection of vendor booths, carnival rides, and entertainment options.

Sal M.

Yelp
For an agriculture-rich county, its a smallish fairground site. A little bigger than Marin or Solano but not much. During the asparagus festival most (but not all) of the concessions were open, and unless you wanted asparagus lumpia at the stand next to the carnival midway, the main hall was where you stood in line for the fried asparagus and the ice cream. If you ever want to challenge the garlic festival, etc., add a few more options for the event you are promoting. But this was the first time at the new site, so lessons learned for next year. Classic car show was cool though. Parking sucks. The hyper teenage attendants try to wave you through one of only two entrances, and try to get you to move even though you are stuck in traffic. Hey Skippy, I get the idea, I have to turn right but there are cars in front of me. Take it easy.

Yelp
Attended a livestock event at the fairgrounds in mid-September. It was about 85F and we were in one of the livestock penning/showing areas. Good access to water and decent access to electricity. Open sides provided nice ventilation, though the day was still hot enough to make me sweat. Location was pretty easy to find and parking was ample for the event. It was also nice that there were plenty of small amenities nearby like grocery stores, discount shops and motels.

Yelp
I hate to give my hometown Stockton fairgrounds such a low rating... When thinking about venues I often try to compare the venue or space to other like venues. By this measure I would have to compare the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds to other county fairgrounds I have been to. Ventura, Calavaras, Sonoma, all of them would rank higher than San Joaquin. They do what they can but the fairgrounds are located in a horrible area of Stockton to begin with. At the corner of Airport Way and MLK Boulevard (Charter Way) it is the kind of area you REALLY worry about your car while being at the fair or any of the other events there. As for the actual San Joaquin County Fair, it bumps this one star review up to a 2 star. The fair is not completely horrible...it is pretty much like your standard county fair. Corn dogs, people selling stuff, overpriced rides, random exhibits, they even have some awesome free concerts late at night. I have some good memories at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. Would that be enough to make me go there today? Eh. :0)

Yelp
It's always fun coming to Delta Speedway here during the summer to watch the races. I believe they're called micro sprint cars, but anyway... My niece & nephew enjoy it as well & hey it's actually a lil fun when mud chunks come flying into the bleachers too lol. And a few times they actually had some drifting event goin on, which we stood far away from. Wish I could comment on the county fair, but hey I haven't been to that in years!

Yelp
Attended the Asparagus Festival today 2016. Despite the 2015 mixed reviews, it was pretty good. We got there before opening time (10:00 AM) and waited about 15 minutes in line to get in after we bought our tickets. Parking was a breeze. No fuss. The festival itself is laid out kind of weird. It just didn't have a good flow. But it was still ok. From what I can tell, better than last year. We didn't go in 2015. NOW, the tough part. We left early, 12:15 PM, thinking it would be easy to get out of there. It wasn't. Took 20 minutes to get out of the parking lot. Every time we made progress thru the traffic, we were stopped by gridlock--people blocking the intersections. Seems to me the Stockton Police Department could have played a better role here. But still not a big deal. I think Stockton Police Dept has their hands full with things more important than traffic jams from a festival! Will we return next year? Probably not. But it was nice to enjoy the deep fried asparagus and asparagus lumpia! We didn't have to wait in any lines. GO EARLY!

Yelp
I've been here on a few occasions and the rating that it gets is as honest as it gets. I give it a "Meh. I've experienced better." Honestly, it deserves a 2.5 stars, and if I could omit the "Meh," I would. Does it mean the fair sucks? Absolutely not! In fact I like this place, in terms of venue (not class of horses on the racetrack) a little better than Hollywood Park in LA, which is a very large major venue for horse racing and similar "festivals" and such. The SJ fair is a yearly one I go to because of the racing. The class of racing available in Stockton is not very high at all, however, it is still enjoyable because of the summer heat factor and Stockton's ability to have a lot of people and still feel like a small town. Not too many fairs have the ability to do that and Stockton does. There will be its positives and negatives as a result of this factor. Positives include the fact that the crowd that attends this fair is diverse and appear to be very friendly. Another positive factor is that this year, the only cost to patrons is parking. Admission is free. They had a great selection of artists that performed here. I happened to go see Raven Symone of That's so Raven/The Cheetah Girls/Disney Channel fame on one occasion. Oh Snap! Tips: Bring sunblock, a lawn chair, and lots of cold drinks when you come here. Hats and sunglasses are a must. Pay attention to signs are there are parking areas that are closer to the midway/concert area and the racetrack. Overall, it's a good value, however, in most cases I've experienced better (remember, without the "meh"), even though the value is one that many fairs cannot beat.

Yelp
I go here on occasion for the Stockton Car Show and Swap Meet. It has it's bad day, but the good days make it worth it. Besides, admission for this show is well worth it.

Joseph A.

Yelp
This fairgrounds is very spacious inside and out, but can get very crowded during festivals and events. The parking lot usually has enough room for quite a few cars to park comfortably, but to be sure that you have a space to park you should definitely come early, especially because this area is very industrial and doesn't offer too much in the way of street parking. This fairgrounds has an excellent layout for its open space and exhibit halls, I came here for a music festival and was amazed at how so many bands could perform at one time and still be heard clearly by fans; without any interruption, even though they were only a short distance from each other.

Nosha B.

Yelp
Horrible it was only one booth with asparagus this was not a good asparagus Festival The line was two hours long never again

Vikki G.

Yelp
Not dog friendly , even though in a dog stroller. June 2016 fair. Adult admission is $10. Once inside we found many dogs on leashes allowed to come in and enjoy the day with their families, seems a little hypocritical to me.

Jim M.

Yelp
It took me 45 minutes to park once I got into the lot. Clearly the people running the parking had no clue on how to direct traffic. I won't be going back. They get one star only because I have to rate them.

Claudia L.

Yelp
Not worth it! You pay $10 for adults $5 for kids just to get into a festival with only 1 indoor booth of asparagus and asparagus ice cream. Everything else is the same games that were at the manteca fair for FREE admission and the manteca street fair for FREE admission.

Yelp
We went to the Asparagus festival today. I have never experienced a location with more ineffectual traffic management. We wasted a total of 90 minutes entering and exiting the parking area. Not to mention the lines for tickets, food and drinks. The lines for food were crossing into the foot traffic path. What would it take to put up a few ropes to keep queues parallel with foot traffic? Another problem was trying to find anything. The signage was minimal. In the asparagus food building, people were standing in line to buy fried asparagus only to find out, once inside the building, that the one huge line was to pick up purchased food. Crazy. I think that because the line went outside of the building, they just assumed it was the line to buy fried asparagus. Boy, how helpful it would have been to have a person or a sign outside of the building to help guide people to the right line. Well now that we've been there and done that, nevermore. I'll have to deep fry my own asparagus at home.
