Where to Get a Perfect Slice of Cake in London

"Spasia Dinkovski spent the early days of lockdown dedicated to perfecting börek — her favourite treat made by her Macedonian grandmother — before launching Mystic Börek in August 2020 as an Instagram-only drop business where customers would meet her at designated tube stations around London to collect one of her giant, glistening, golden flaky phyllo. These crispy-oil slicked pastry behemoths, layered or spiralled, bulging with fillings such as locally sourced lamb merguez sausage, feta, apricot and confit spring onion, were an instant hit, and by March 2021, Mystic Börek had moved into a professional kitchen, with demand continuing to exceed capacity. Amidst a menu of aggressively savoury, salty, punchy flavours, there is one sweet pie: a tres leches börek that combined Dinkovski’s favourite dessert, this time made by her mother, with her love of börek. This ludicrously rich creation consists of a light sponge soaked in three milks (condensed milk, evaporated milk and double cream) rolled up in filo pastry and baked. Next, the entire börek is drenched in double cream and caramel and left to soak overnight, before being finished with a dark, slightly smoky salted caramel and a flurry of rose petals. Served straight from the fridge, ice cold, crisp pastry shards floating on a sea of cream and caramel make for a joyous layering of textures and temperatures, this really is as decadent as it gets." - Emma Louise Pudge

The food was amazing. Good value for money. Enza was very warm & her service was great. She made us very comfortable.

San Marino is a charming café and bar, offering cooked breakfasts and sandwiches, though the menu selection is somewhat limited. The establishment is clean, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are pleasant, contributing to a generally positive atmosphere. It can become quite busy at times. It opens early and closes late. Parking is not available, but there is step-free access.

Amazing cocktails, and was happy hour 241! Great value and a seat in the sun!! Chris who made our drinks was very accommodating. This is my new regular spot!!! Thanks so much!!!

One of my favorite spots, especially for brunch, is this place. You absolutely have to try the coffee and cakes—my personal favorite is the red velvet. The spicy chicken sandwich and chicken panini are also delightful; I'm sure you'll love them!

Great options for coffees, frappuccinos, milkshakes. Absolutely love the healthy shakes even that you can add protein too! Vegan and vegetarian food options, halal and also Gluten Free! Special shout out to the white chocolate mocha Frappuccino, and the mixed juices. Nice outdoor seating too so could visit and sit in the sun, even with our small dog with us. It’s quite big so plentiful seating options, but still a welcoming feel. Wheelchair friendly with a ramp at the front door for those with disability or mobility needs

The gem of Brixton. If you’re living in London and looking for community you will find it here. The team are so friendly, you’ll feel like friends after visiting. The food is great, the team is efficient and friendly and the addition of the evening bar is fantastic. There is a reason this place is so popular, because they have service right. Enza is an absolute dream every time I visit. Thanks for always looking after me 😘😘

Last time I went was in August 2023 with another friend! I was missing some Eggs Cumberland 🥰 Me and my friend went for some brunch today. It was a bit full but we managed to get a seat as they have quite a bit of space! It was also nice and warm inside. They do have outside seating which is great for the summer but maybe not as advisable in the current cold winter 😂 The food was good as per and the ambience is always great :)

I can’t recommend this place enough. A real family feel, lovely staff, lovely people, great atmosphere. And to top it all off great food! Don’t miss it!

Yelp
We all know how much I love my family run business right? Well, I've found another one! Sat neatly on the corner where Brixton Road, meets Brixton Station Road you'll find San Marino. Modern, airy and well thought out to feed people in a comfortable, no frills environment. I think the huge, almost floor to ceiling windows help puts diners at easy, that, and the archetypal Italian grandmother on the till. Together with generous portions and friendly staff, all adds to the Brixton love this place receives from the locals. Solid four stars and looking forward to heading back to type lunch and their legdary coffee. Ciao for now!

Yelp
My friends and I were looking for a place with a quality English breakfast, and stumbled upon this place on our way to the Brixton Market. I ordered a vanilla chai on top of the breakfast itself, and the food itself was more than enough to fill me up. In addition to being reasonably priced, the food was everything I wanted in a hearty English meal. My other friend ordered a raspberry chai and she absolutely loved it as well. Will be back in the near future for sure.

Yelp
Sub par breakfast and lifeless staff. Not the best 'most important meal of the day' I've ever had! I started by ordering a milkshake, and after some confusion it was made for me. Mint aero was the choice and average it was. Breakfast was disgusting. Horrible 'cheap-style' sausages, mushrooms which tasted deep fried in old fat, the same with the hash browns. It was vile, something I'd have told the staff, if they bothered to ask how our meal was. The only redeeming feature was the bread they used for the toast, but if the best thing about a full English is the toast... There's something seriously wrong.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this place on the way to the O2 for All Saints which was appropriate considering that for the hour I was there they were pumping up the All Saints. Good customer service and prices. The raspberry chai latte was amazing and so was the banana hot chocolate that I sampled from my best friend's cup.

Yelp
This place is an absolute finding. The coffee is really good, very well prepared (take it from a compulsive drinker). Definitely recommend the vanilla chai latte if you're not a coffee fan. Haven't tried the food but looks amazing. Only not so good point is the costumer service. No one was ever rude to me but I think they could only benefit with being a bit more friendly. The ordering system is rather confusing as well (reminds me of a Southern European cafe where you order at the table but then you're asked to order at the counter and they bring it at the table). Don't go if you want a hipster-like independent coffee shop. Definitely recommend if you're after good coffee rather than a good coffee place.

Yelp
So, I yelped this place before going so I kinda knew what I got myself into. I don't have much to say because most have been said by other yelpers. I do, however, want to say that if you don't stop by this place you're missing out on something great! The staff were really nice and I ordered a chorizo panini with a Peroni beer on the side; it.was.DeLICIOUS! Would definitely recommend it to others and go here again next time I'm in London.

Yelp
Lovely bustling Italian cafe. Excellent coffee and great breakfast. Good value too. The paninis on display looked very appetising and I will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Favourite local hangout in Brixton with good coffee and even better sandwiches. The service can be a bit haphazard but the atmosphere in the cafe makes up for it, especially if you head here on the weekend.

Yelp
This morning I enjoyed the best English breakfast ever. Service was very polite. Nice atmosphere. I can recommend this restaurant, if you are in the area. The location close to a Tube Station is perfect. Next time I pass by the restaurant, I want to try some of the delicious sandwiches I saw in the display.

Unhappy Customer S.

Yelp
Visited this Cafe on a Sunday morning. The worst cafe in Brixton, the staff were rude and impatient, when I asked politely if I could have my coffee in a takeaway cup she rolled her eyes and sighed. Really I wasn't asking for much the staff need a refresher in customer service. My latte was half full mostly froth, I have had a lot better. San Marino is average at best I have had lunch there a couple of times. Save your money and time and go elsewhere Brixton has a lot of amazing and friendly cafes all happy to serve you.

Yelp
Cheap like chips. But, more likely, sandwiches. Handmade. Fresh. Lovely. Now with juice. Right on the corner, family-run, and in their 19th year. What more to say?

Yelp
A great Italian cafe run by Mario and his family from Sicily. Welcoming atmosphere, great coffee, great panini and pastries; all this and free WiFi!
