This is a quaint, unassuming tasting room in Seaport Village, directly behind the Grand Hyatt Manchester. They have a variety of flight options, which include 3x 2-ish oz pours for around $18 per flight, up to $10 of which can be applied to any bottle purchase. Being from Northern California, I am less familiar with the wine-growing regions south of Santa Barbara and its name, I assumed the wines would be made at least within the South Coast region, if not the San Pasqual Valley region for which I assume the winery was named. Unfortunately, while some of the grapes are sourced from the South Coast region, they're also sourcing grapes as far north as Clarksburg, located about 15 miles south of Sacramento.
I was really surprised to see Teroldego, which is a red varietal from the north of Italy (Trentino-Alto Adige region), where it's quite cool in comparison to many of the wine-growing regions in most of California. The flight I had included Tempranillo, Teroldego, and Cabernet, all sourced from Clarksburg. What I appreciated about all 3 wines was the restraint - it's very easy to get into 15-16% ABV range from warmer climates in California, of which I'd somewhat associate Clarksburg, but all of the ABVs were in the 13-13.5% range. The wines were not over-extracted and still had excellent acidity and freshness. The oak, while definitely present in the wine, was reasonably well-integrated. All 3 wines were good, easy-drinking wines.
This review isn't based on the wine, though -- everyone has a different palate and some may love the wines more, while others a bit less. It's a fun, unpretentious tasting room and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. If you're walking around Seaport Village and need a place to duck out of the sun for a bit to enjoy some wine, stop by San Pasqual Winery and try some Teroldego!
