The Best San Diego-Area Wineries to Visit | Eater San Diego

"Established in 1976, La Mesa’s popular winery excels in reds, whites, rosés from grapes grown around California plus a selection of grape-free “Summer Vine” wines from locally grown passion fruit, including one incorporating habanero peppers. Stop into its locations in La Mesa or Seaport Village shop to taste the 2020 albarino and 2019 pinot gris, two gold winners at this year’s Orange County Wine Competition." - darlene-horn

Shocked at the experience my black, male partner reported having after being there own his own, just a few days after he had come in with myself (white female) and our friend (white male). The three of us had a fantastic time and enjoyed ourselves the first time. My partner, acting and speaking the same way each time, had a complaint reported to him by staff when he was there on his own, after being stared down from the opposite side of the street by passers-by. Profiling and discrimination are never okay. A black male can in fact have a winery membership and not be bothering a single soul while being pleasant to everyone that walks by. So disappointed.

Wonderful, enjoyable place to have a glass of wine or bubbly. Even if by yourself!

Really nice place, and the wine is amazing. Great for date nights

Great wine and live music by 8 East Band! Having a great time tonight!

Found this little place by searching Google. My daughter in law and I did a tasting and loved the wines. Took 2 bottles home.

Google
This is a small wine tasting room in the heart of downtown La Mesa. (They have larger operations elsewhere.) This place is very warm and fun to visit. The ladies there are friendly and will help you choose wines based upon your taste. They also have live music at times, which is an added bonus. We love it here!

Google
Excellent wine and super friendly people. The La Mesa tasting room is quant, the winery, where you can also taste is fun - you can't beat tastings from the barrel. The Seaport Village tasting room has great views.

Google
If you love red wine a must go. They even have white wine i like. The habanero passionfruit is the best rose on the planet. Classy but sassy is a great spritzer. The only wine club I belong to.

Yelp
This is such a cozy winery located on the main road of downtown La mesa. We came on a Wed around 4 and it wasn't too busy. The server was really friendly and helpful with questions. We came for their HH which is pretty good deal. Monday through Thursday from 4-6 they have $7 glasses of wine and $12 flights. I did their "discover delta reds" flight. I didn't particularly love any specific one but they were pretty decent. I ended with a glass of rose which was tasty and really refreshing on a warmer day.

Yelp
Cute tasting room in LA Cute tasting room in La Mesa. The Chardonnay is just perfect. Cute space and it's actually bigger than it looks, friendly staff and they also do flights. On a Friday night it was no overly busy and u can BYOF from the farmers market! Love this place!!

Yelp
Love love love the environment! Not snobby, everyone was super friendly and the workers there are so lovely. I learned so much more about wine, the production, growing from these folks than wineries in Temecula or SLO. First time on a date with the hubs after having our first child and this was the perfect place! Oh yeah wine is good there's some that I didn't prefer but good variety.

Yelp
Great little spot, especially to use your San Diego Sips passport. Very busy when we visited, which seemed out of the ordinary. The woman behind the counter offered us an extra pour after the crowd left, apologizing for the rush of folks. Wine was good, and appreciative for the extra pour. A great stop over after visiting the night market. Didn't love some of the whites but will be going back to give the rose a try.

Yelp
A nice cute and quaint wine tasting room located in old town La Mesa. My mom and I got a flight and unfortunately, for me, I did not like any of my wine. I'm no wine critic of somm but the cab variations were one dimensional and also had a funny aftertaste with high notes of pepper. I thing the best one I had was the white choice and I forgot the name. Despite my displeasure with their wine, it is a local business and the wine is made at their winery that's no too far away. To further support the business, we bought a bottle to take home. I'm not in these parts ever, but if I was, I probably would check out another tasting room.

Yelp
Great wine testing location and great people. This one of two of their location tasting location smack in the middle of La Mesa. They offer wine tasting of course and on certain nights with specific events (live music) they offer cheese, crackers, and fruit. Their calendar of events usually states such days. They offer a wine club, wines bottles for sale, gift packages, and wine memorabilia. This location has comfortable seating in the front of the house and a lot more in the back. Inside, there's a nice U shape wine bar with comfortable bar stools. There's even a comfortable seating area with a large leather couch and chairs with a coffee table. You can easily feel at ease here and sip away on their flavorful wine selection.

Yelp
Great passionfruit wine and seating area! Chris was friendly and made sure we were comfortable during our visit.

Yelp
I came here after an unfortunate celebration event not too far from them. We had intended on grabbing a glass of wine from one of the restaurants nearby but everything looked pretty packed and people-ly...so we headed over, since one of my friends with me said it was a nice place. It is what I would call a small intimate setting. My two friends tried the sangria and also a white wine. I went for the two sweeter wines they had on the list. Everything we tried was good, and the gentleman that was there was very nice. It is in a good spot for watching passerbyes too, and the location is nice to do some walking after as well. I would definitely come back here again and think it would make a fun date spot too.

Yelp
Service was amazing as always, and the ambiance never fails me as well. Wine is really top notch for san diego.

Yelp
First of all, their wine is very good. Second they establish a positive, lively interaction in the tasting room. Topher is very cool, but I've got to say that Gabe is a rock star. He answered all my questions and went out of his way to take care of me, at close to closing time. Their Summer Vine Habanero Passion fruit wine is unique, tastes fantastic & its so popular they put it in a slushy machine and serve it ice cold in a wine glass as well!

Yelp
This location has a pleasant ambiance and would be great for a girls brunch or night out! The selection of wines from white, red, sparkling, sangrias, froze, and passion fruit are amazing!! The customer service provided this evening by the new employee Bryce was exceptional! Very highly recommended for sure!!

Yelp
I simply adore this Wine Tasting Room and have been a patron for more than 10 years. I find it a quaint atmosphere, unlike many other's, and those who patron at San Pasqual almost intrinsically understand that it is a quieter establishment catering to soft enjoyable conversation with light laughs. There are many tasting rooms in which there are various types of patrons who at times can be too rambunctious or without etiquette, thankfully this is not one of them. I would say it is a great place to destress after work all the way to meeting someone for the first time that could lead to a new romantic relationship. Personally I am a lover of 99% of their wines, the Passion Fruit Habanero being the best causal drink of choice, not too light or too heavy or too sweet, but it does have a tinge of spice which is definitely something different on the palate that is incredibly enjoyable. Topher & Teresa are my favorite wine connoisseurs both full of WINEderful conversation and an UNCORKED knowledge of both their wines, various wineries in San Diego, Temecula, Ramona, and more. They as well know much about the wine making process and I am surprised that they have not indented on establishing their own Winery. Topher has wit and charm and Teresa is a hoot with a lovely demeanor. Also if there, order the "Classy, but Sassy" off the Secret Menu, Champagne with the addition of Passion Habanero Wine- You'll thank me!

Yelp
Cool little place to hangout and watch the car show on Thursdays. Wine is pretty good!

Yelp
I have walked past this place quite a few times. And finally, I made plans to stop in. A friend was celebrating a birthday so we decided to treat ourselves to a wine tasting here. There are a few tables and chairs outside if you want to be seated outside. Inside is a surprise! At first glance it looks like there are only a few small tables and some bar seating. However in the back is a tiny lounge area with a couch..then you walk even further back and their is a wide open are with a lot of space! My friends and I had a sample of 5 wines for around $15.00 and if you purchase a bottle of wine you get a $5 discount off the bottle. One of the wines that I had was their jalapeno wine...it had a refreshing light kick. I ended up buying a bottle to take home. You can purchase cheese and crackers. They also have other snacks for purchase. This was a neat treat and the staff is super friendly.

Yelp
I had been wanting to try this tasting room for a while, as it is close to work and it looks pretty packed each night when I pass by. My husband and I decided to check it out one Tuesday for a tasting flight. We were able to try several wines as we each ordered a flight of five tastes. They make wines from grapes grown around CA and in Baja. I actually didn't have high hopes for the wines, but they definitely beat my expectations. First, they place is small, but cute. It felt a bit awkward at first when we were the only ones there...a bit difficult to have a private conversation. But then they turned some music on and a few people arrived. It was fun doing the flight. My favorites were the dry rosé and also the habenero dessert rosé. I ended up buying a bottle of the latter for a friend, as it was very original. I generally am very disappointed by reds in "urban wineries" and around San Diego, but I actually thought these were good, not whimpy at all. They are not licensed as a restaurant, so they only have packaged cheeses and snacks. It would have been cool to have some more interesting snacks, so that part I didn't care for much. I hear that they also have some fun events and art classes there. I look forward to checking them out. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
We came in here to do some wine tasting while at Oktoberfest yesterday and it was awesome! I tried the summer wine "blanc" passion fruit wine which was one of the best wines I've ever had! So delicious with a little grapefruit flavor in there. Very delicious. Keenan was very informative of the different selections and how they all taste. I told him what I liked and didn't like about wine and he figured out exactly what I'd enjoy. Very cute little place.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while dining at Aubrey Rose next door. Besides this location, they have 3 more, 2 in La Mesa & 1 in Seaport Village. 5 tasters for $10. They have a great selection of wines: whites, reds, passion fruit wines (my favorite!), dessert/sweet wines, & bubblies. They also have cheese & hummus to enjoy with your wine. White Wines- 2016 Chardonnay 2016 Viognier 2016 Rose of Cabernet Franc All subtly sweet, great! Passion Fruit Wines- Summer Vine "Blanc": I enjoyed this one more than the Roselle because I found it to be more sweeter. I got a bottle of it & finished it within 2 days! Summer Vine "Roselle" Sangria: Delightful, fruity, perfect for the hot summer weather.

Yelp
Natural Gravitation! Back to a place from which we were introduced on our first date... The San Diego Fair... San Pasqual Wines was a showcased vendor. So far we have tasted st their in-house location in La Mesa,CA. Truly a gem of San Diego's go-to and be consistenty pleased tasting room. For us... we seem to gravitate.. at first taste... Dundee a dark wine, me a white. Go figure... we enjoy the laugh! Salud

Yelp
Really like their wines. My boyfriend is a member and we go a lot. Currently (covid) we sit outside and they give three regular glasses per tasting. Pre covid- they have a large tasting room!

Yelp
Little boutique wineries are spreading like a wild fire around SD and yes there is one even in La Mesa! I made it my goal to try every wine bar in winery in SD county, so while in la mesa i stopped with a few of my friends for a wine tasting. The tasting is $7.50 for 5 tastes and if you decided to get a bottle at the end, there is a $5 off discount. Overall i enjoyed the tastings, my favorite was a Passion fruit wine wine, not too sweet, fruit forward - "Lush tropical passion fruit on the nose, w/a lingering grapefruit palate". I definitely recommend to give it a try. Their "version" of sangria tasted nothing like one, ridiculously sweet with strong cinnamon flavor and milky color (and no fruit). Cute and charming come to mind when describing this bar, decor is pretty cheesy, this place would probably attract more people and younger crowd if it was updated and remodeled to look modern and classy. On a side note, they got lots of wine merchandise like coasters, magnets, t-shirts and so on. Its very well priced compare to other wineries/wine bars. Cool retro coasters are only a buck each!

Yelp
This is a really nice little tasting room in downtown La Mesa. I was surprised by both the space itself and the wine. Not normally a fan of flavored wines, we really appreciated the dry passionfruit flavored wine, it is delicious, not particularly expensive and of an unexpectedly good quality.
google avatar

Giena L.

Yelp
Cute little tasting room/gallery in downtown La Mesa. They have a variety of wines to taste from. They have an assortment of reds, whites and dessert wines as well as passion fruit wine- which i think may be their speciality. I suggest you try their Sangria as well as all of their passion fruit wines, extremely delicious and not as sweet as you would think. Each tasting flight offers you $5 off any bottle of wine you purchase. They also offer cute wine knick knacks and snacks. Very friendly staff. The guy that was working told me they have live music every week as well and host paint nites. Definitely a must see place when in La Mesa, they also have other locations as well- and a new tasting room in Seaport Village.

Yelp
My husband and I were in need of a fun date night when we remembered hearing about a wine tasting room in our neighborhood. We arrived a little before 5pm on Friday. At that time there were lots of available seats. Since we were looking for a little romance, we opted for a table over a seat at the bar. We each did a tasting and decided to try the Brie and crackers. I LOVE BRIE. SO CREAMY. SO DELICIOUS. But I digress.... While I'm not a wine connoisseur, I have tasted a lot of wine. I genuinely enjoyed all the reds I tried. My favorite was the Tempranillo. We also both tried the passion fruit wine with habanero. The waitress said it was one of their best sellers and we instantly understood why. By the time we left the bar had filled up. Everyone sitting there was chatting with each other and the bartender. Next time we will grab a seat at the bar so we can get even more tidbits about the wine and grapes. If you like wine, nice atmosphere and supporting local business, you'll like this place.

Yelp
Our first Pasqual experience was at the Seaport Village location. Great experience! However this La Mesa location is close to home and the experience was just as great! Coral was awesome! :-) He was very informative and helpful. He's the reason for our new membership! Yeah!
google avatar

Yelp
Linda was awesome! She was so kind to my friends and even when we got a little loud (sorry, Linda!) she was super helpful. Aside from that, the wine itself was delicious. My friend got the white wine flight and I got the passionfruit wine flight. The Passionfruit Habañero was especially tasty. If I wasn't traveling back on an airplane I would have definitely purchased a bottle to take home with me. Thanks again, Linda!

Yelp
it is a lot bigger inside than what you would expect from outside. We wondered down the street on saturday night and stepped into this lttle jem. What a nice cozy place! They offer wine tasting, 5 for $12. And free live music at the back room every saturday evenings.

Yelp
My mother and I wandered into this little shop so quaint and cute in down town La mesa. Wanted to see what it was all about. We came in about an hour before closing and my mother wanted to know what their membership included. We decided to start with two tastings. It included 6 choices off the menu and they recomend to follow the order in which they are listed. Long story short by the end of the tasting we did not need dinner. We tried the smoked brie cheese and crackers; I normally despise brie but I loved this smoked one. Most of my tastings consisted of sweeter wines, with a dessert peach wine that was paired with a raspberry white chocolate three layer cake. The service was lovely. The lady who poured our glasses as well as the gentelman who helped grab a couple of the bottles we took home were both so kind and never rushed us. We finished the last glass and paperwork for the membership 5 mins past closing. The price for 5 bottles of wine two tastings and both food items was less than I would have ever imagined. **Quick tip: when one person opts into the membership club they can add a certian number of people onto their membership to also receive the benefits and monthly pricing.

Yelp
After dinner at an Italian Restaurant in Little Italy downtown, we decided to try something a lil closer to home. We walk by this tasting room a lot but never stopped in until tonight. For friendliness and an "everybody knows your name" atmosphere, I give it five stars. Everyone seemed to know everyone in there. There was also lovely guitar playing going on adding to a relaxed atmosphere. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the wine. The aroma of a couple tasters was very offsetting. I don't want to say what they smelled like because it could be deemed rude, but I couldn't bear to swallow down a few of the tasters. The one taster I was able to was the Sangria but, it really tasted more like fruit punch with mulling spices, not quite what I was looking for. I was disappointed to say the least. Especially just having a delicious Chianti for dinner at a different restaurant.

Yelp
Love love love the habenero passionfruit wine!! Love tasting here, Brenda is awesome! ps If you buy a bottle of wine you get $5 off your tasting!
google avatar

Zulma R.

Yelp
Mah... I have totally had better wine. The only thing was the lady doing the pouring, she was fun to talk to. Thankfully we got a groupon for this, and did it after golfing up the road from here. The prices are not worth it for me. I am not a wine snob or really know wines too well. But I know taste and the depth of taste when it comes to wine. The one really good thing I did try was their sangria mix package. It was tasty, but then again, most sangria is. I would say to try it for yourself for sure. I just feel like the area is for a bit older crowd. At least this tasting room was.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Recently hosted an event at San Pasqual Winery & Tasting Room, Brenda was awesome to work with! They have a great back room for private parties, the set up was perfect, and it was a pleasure working with them! The wine was also tasty and made our event a success!

Yelp
Love this cozy tasting room, and the wines are excellent! Try the Valentines day pairings!

Yelp
Have been here several times, and my friend and I always enjoy the warm, cozy atmosphere and wonderful wine. Hadn't been here since they remodeled -- looks terrific, and feels more roomy. I'd like to give a special shout out to Dawn who really made us feel welcome, and was super friendly. We had another server for awhile, but then Dawn really took care of us at the end. Give it a try...

Yelp
The woman who gave us the tasting was great. She was friendly and fun to do a tasting with. The wines were delicious and there was a good selection. My favorite was the passionfruit wine and the sangria.

Yelp
I came by San Pasqual Winery with an alumni group. The event allowed for us to raise money for charity while also indulging in the many options this tasting room has to offer. As an urban winery, San Pasqual purchases all of their grapes from growers in California and most are from the San Diego area. The wine production is done nearby the tasting room. Our group had the back room to ourselves, and were able to try a bunch of different wines. The sparkling wine, "Toast of the Town" Blanc de Blancs, was probably one of my favorites. I tried both the 2014 and 2015 San Diego Chardonnay. I prefered the 2015 as it was on par with the buttery chardonnay you would find in Napa. If you like bolder reds, you'll have plenty of great options here including a tempranillo, cabernet sauvignon, and a malbec. Another one of my favorites was the sangria. My friend commented that it "tasted like Christmas." It was like a cold mulled wine. Apparently they do heat it up around Christmas as more of a mulled wine. If you're a port drinker, San Pasqual also has a port wine. This winery is perfect for groups since everyone will find something they like here. The staff is wonderful, and everyone was welcoming and friendly.

Yelp
We are members at several wine clubs along central coast and northern California, so came in with some experience and thus, expectations for the wine and the winery. Not as familiar with the concept of "urban winery", but it was explained that they do not grow their own grapes, but source throughout California, and yes, San Diego as well. Many wineries do this. The gentleman that worked at the tasting room downtown was helpful, relatively knowledgeable about the wines, the growing areas and the winemaking process; was congenial and created an enjoyable and relaxing experience for the afternoon. I truly hate the "fee for service" concept for areas in my life that I love (wine, yoga) so am willing to pay a premium to avoid considering the cost of each item (a glass of wine, a taste on a Saturday afternoon, etc.). Spoiled much?! Thus, my affliction for joining wine clubs Yep, we are now proud wine club members! It helps that we are walkable to the tasting room, of course. Now, I cannot say that this wine club is what we are used to, so more on that as time progresses. I can say that I was impressed with some of the wines, neutral about most, and only a few I disliked. They have an overwhelming lineup of options, which I was concerned with initially (like those Chinese restaurants that also make hamburgers and crepes?), but I would suggest giving them a shot and focusing your efforts on the offerings that you prefer. The Merlot, Rose, Tempranillo and sparkling were all very enjoyable (and purchased). See you soon!

Yelp
Coral served us a few tasters and the experience was wonderful and fulfilling. i appreciate the knowledge and experience he has and the amount of sheer excitement and joy he imparted and instilled in us Wine recommendation: Teroldego

Yelp
I've enjoyed San Pasqual's wines quite a bit the last few months, (though many of their reds have a pretty peppery kick) and also just tried their Passionfruit Wines (the one with habanero is out there and a must try!). I've always gone to the actual "cellar" / the production center on Center Street but as they were closed yesterday I went to the tasting room in downtown La Mesa instead. What a lovely atmosphere! It is so festive, warm and cute and has the feel of a Cheers type bar where "everyone knows your name" as we quickly made friends with all the other patrons and, Ryan, the employee (hesitant to call him the bartender since he seems to do so many different things for this company!). The wines, as usual, were a delight. Good wine, good company, warm atmosphere - that's the way to get 5 stars in my book!
google avatar

Kendra H.

Yelp
This place is so cute. Stopped in and shared a bottle of wine. The lady working was so nice. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Here's the deal - the quality of your experience at this place depends, 100%, on which person waits on you. The wine is fine. I've bought bottles each time we have gone in. It is affordable, drinkable, and local (to me) which I like. The music is so-so. The bands I've seen have been okay. I would probably stay and listen to a band of that quality for a while if I knew the band or the staff were nicer. The facility is cramped. The main tasting room has 9 bar seats and two 3-tops, and that is the only place they will let you sit for tasting. There's a lounge with couches (it's sort of new-age-y) and then the stage room in the back with about half a dozen 4-seat tables. If they would let you walk back and forth from the music with your tasting, it would be fine, but you are jammed into the front room for tasting and it is crazy crowded. The real complaint is with the staff though. Of the times I've been, there were 3 staffers. Two were wonderfully pleasant, and perfectly sufficient for a retail strip tasting room. The third (who happens to be a middle aged woman, so you can avoid her), is a total b**** who was a)super rude when she interacted with us, b) wasn't any more knowledgeable than anyone else, and c) basically ignored us anytime anyone else was within earshot, even though we were buying wine. Sadly, I'm pretty sure she's the owner (or a partner, anyway), so I can't expect them to replace her. We'll be back - and avoiding the rude staff.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the second time I've had the opportunity to try San Pasqual wines, and I'm still very impressed. The la mesa tasting room is located on the main drag of stores. Parking is diagonal street parking, but that wasn't an issue during the day on a Sunday. The employees were super super nice. They allowed my poodle and I to sit inside as they do not serve food. You can buy some crackers and cheese and dessert, but it's not prepared here. They were very intent on making sure I had a good experience. The grapefruit wines were definitely too sweet for me, and the man serving me offered some champagne to offset the sweetness. I will definitely return for a bottle while dining nearby.

Gus L.

Yelp
Great wine bar/tasting room/winery here in downtown LaMesa! These folks really know their stuff when it comes to wine and this past weekend treated us like regular customers, even though we came in with a Groupon deal. The gentleman that took care of our party was very knowledgeable and friendly although if you an "uninitiated" person, might come across as a bit of a wine snob. But that can be a good thing as well as a bad thing. All in all this is a great stop in to try some wine, learn about some new wines (they make a few great passion fruit wines and even sangria!). Check em out!

Yelp
Pretty cool spot to chill and have a glass of wine or two. We purchased an online deal for wine tastings for 4 + a cheese platter. We each had a handful of tastings. One thing I didn't like is that they were REALLY stingy with the "tasting". I tried the Port and they literally gave me a sip of it in the glass. I know what your thinking " Its a tasting!" Yes, I know! But a drop of Port! Really? They do have this hot cider that was AM-A-ZING!!! It was a cool place to try, but it wasn't memorable enough to go back.

Yelp
BACKGROUND: My friend/fellow Yelper Jennifer N. had a LivingSocial deal usable for both locations of San Pasqual Winery. She invited me to come along as well as one of her friends. To fully take advantage of the voucher, I also invited another friend/fellow Yelper Scott D. Thanks to Jen for the voucher, and thanks to all for a great time that day. We went to the La Mesa location because Jen found out that the tasting room is closed on Sundays in PB. According to the owners, the PB location will close soon as it is too far for them to drive and they will establish another location much closer across the freeway. CONCEPT: San Pasqual Winery is San Diego's first "urban winery". Notice that there's no vineyard anywhere? Grapes are purchased from other vineyards and the winery does the rest of the work in their own warehouse. Their focus are the grapes grown all around California - if you're interested, there's a map they have that highlights all the major wine regions. VENUE: Small, intimate and cozy - just like a lot of the other businesses in La Mesa. There's three areas: the central bar area that's also accommodating to pets, small tables near the window and another area in the back where there's two couches and a table. Tastings are preferably done in the front where the wine's easily accessible. To enjoy a bottle or a glass it's best to enjoy it in the back. WINES: Tastings are normally $8.50 for a round of 6 tastes. You'll be given a sheet of paper that lists their offerings. Tastings go from white/rose to red to passion fruit wines to dessert wines. To take advantage of this, I picked two whites, two reds, one passion fruit wine and one dessert wine. *** Here was my taste. You'll have to ask Jen N. or Scott D. for theirs. I thought that the portions were a little on the skimpy side. 1) "Toast of the Town" Brut (Sparkling): Made in the Methode Champenoise (traditional method of making sparkling wine in the Champagne region of France that undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle) style made with Mendocino County Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. Per the description, it is crisp and dry which should be drunk by itself and not be put into mimosas. 2) 2010 Yolo County "First Blush" Rose: As a former UC Davis student, I knew where Yolo County was but for the rest of my friends they thought this was amusing and just had to try the wine because the label said "Yolo" on it. I thought this was a bit strong for a rose as it was reminiscent of really strong spiked punch. 3) 2010 Lake County Malbec: A lighter red wine perfect for sipping. The nose did have a hint of berries and plums. 4) 2008 Tempranillo El Dorado County: wasn't as full-bodied as I would have liked, but I could pick up the peppery overtones and flavors of cherry and cocoa. 5) Summer Vine "Blanc" Passionfruit Wine: My first try with a passionfruit wine. Apparently this was a very popular wine with consumers as it won Best of Show at SD County Fair. Aroma was quite strong without having to swirl the glass. It was also sweet and tasted like passionfruit. Unlike grapes, passionfruit is much more labor-intensive as the seeds have to be manually taken out. 6) Tawny Port: Jen was right, tawny port is best done with a tiny bit of bittersweet chocolate - the Raisinettes didn't cut it. Aroma and taste strongly consisted of raisins and dark chocolate. *** My actual sipping wine after the taste was the 2009 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. It was quite a full-bodied wine that was good for several sips at a time. I was able to let my wine linger while being deeply engrossed in conversation. They actually do have a bathroom, it's further in the back. As a casual wine connoisseur, I will add this place to get unique wines like their tawny port and their passionfruit wine. If I'm in the La Mesa area this is a good spot to relax for several hours though it's not a convincing enough reason just to go to La Mesa.

Yelp
I love this place! I'm always so excited for the pick up parties. The wine is spectacular. The people are very personable and take the time to talk about the different wines. I always feel welcome in this establishment.

Yelp
I also used my living social deal (finally) yesterday! I had to make a reservation for a sunday, but it worked out really well with the group I went with. The people were very friendly right up front, even though it was the deal that brought us in- some people treat you differently. While I wasn't a fan of the pre-sample free tasting of the '08 white, I REALLY liked the rest. The blush was delicious but my favorite was the Tempranillo. While they don't grow their own grapes, it sounds like they make their own versions from each place they buy from. I have to agree though, most wine tasting pours are much more generous- this kind of reduces my view of them, but the actual purchased glass was a decent amount. The actual bottle amounts are in the $25-30 range I believe for the reds, not bad. They have a small 'living room' area that is very comfy! And a much larger section in the back with regular tables. Parking on the street is metered, luckily we went on a Sunday when it's free ;) P.S. They've redone the bathroom and is now open to customers.

She was extremely welcoming and felt as if I had known her for years. She gave us great suggestions and loved our cab. Yelp
We found a groupon for a wine tasting for 4 people. Stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon and had the place to ourselves. Pleasant atmosphere that was cozy. We sat at the "bar". There are tables that you can sit at. We had a wonderful host/staff serving us. Enjoyed some interesting tasting wine. The San Pasqual Winery takes the everyday wines like Chardonay and Cabernet and add their twist on them. Adding flavors such as currant, habeneros, passion fruit, black cherries and other neat concoctions. Of the wines we tasted, we enjoyed the following wines so much we took some home: 1. Monte Soledad 2003 Spanish Blend 2. 2008 GSM 3. Habanero "wHot Passion" Passion Fruit Wine (a pleasant peppery kick at the end of it) They have a sangria mixed with passion fruit wine and mulling spices. Unbelievably fresh and crisp on a warm day. They sell a "kit" to make the sangria that includes, instrutions, mulling spices and 2 wines. Wine tasting is a resonable price and definitely the best deal. Most of the wines start around $15 and up. They also have wine knick knacks and accessories available. Generally we do not purchase wines in these price ranges, but perhaps we will begin to......we will be back!
