Yelp
We are members at several wine clubs along central coast and northern California, so came in with some experience and thus, expectations for the wine and the winery. Not as familiar with the concept of "urban winery", but it was explained that they do not grow their own grapes, but source throughout California, and yes, San Diego as well. Many wineries do this.
The gentleman that worked at the tasting room downtown was helpful, relatively knowledgeable about the wines, the growing areas and the winemaking process; was congenial and created an enjoyable and relaxing experience for the afternoon.
I truly hate the "fee for service" concept for areas in my life that I love (wine, yoga) so am willing to pay a premium to avoid considering the cost of each item (a glass of wine, a taste on a Saturday afternoon, etc.). Spoiled much?! Thus, my affliction for joining wine clubs Yep, we are now proud wine club members! It helps that we are walkable to the tasting room, of course. Now, I cannot say that this wine club is what we are used to, so more on that as time progresses. I can say that I was impressed with some of the wines, neutral about most, and only a few I disliked. They have an overwhelming lineup of options, which I was concerned with initially (like those Chinese restaurants that also make hamburgers and crepes?), but I would suggest giving them a shot and focusing your efforts on the offerings that you prefer.
The Merlot, Rose, Tempranillo and sparkling were all very enjoyable (and purchased).
See you soon!
