Where to Eat Near Mexico City's Major Museums

"Near: Museo de Arte Popular There are a bunch of these variety stores all over Mexico City, but the one worth going to is inside the La Casa de los Azulejos—we’re talking right in the middle of it. You’ll dine in a large, covered courtyard surrounded by colorful murals, and traditionally dressed waiters will approach your table to recommend the sopa de tortilla, or their staple dish: enchiladas suizas stuffed with chicken in a green salsa and melted swiss cheese. The desserts are fine, but we suggest skipping them. Instead, walk a few minutes to the famous (and equally picturesque) Dulcería de Celaya." - guillaume guevara

14 Best Things to Do in Zócalo, Mexico City | Condé Nast Traveler

"In 1919, the American Sanborns brothers bought this 18th century palace and opened Mexico's first soda fountain inside. There's a charmingly antiquated coffee counter snaking through one side of the building, which also includes a casual seating area, retail section, pharmacy, and a more formal dining room in the enclosed patio. Think of it as an upscale Denny's that serves breakfast platters of enchiladas and eggs, larger steaks and sides, and of course, milkshakes and sundaes." - Scarlett Lindeman

If you dont mind cold food and the staff actually admitting that they are gonna microwave your food... go here. Do not get ne wrong, the atmosphere is beautiful and im sure that the food is usually good but every plate we ordered was cold and when we asked why the food was cold they blamed the window which makes no sense because we had had coffee and tea at the table prior to food and it was still hot. I ordered filet mignon and I have no clue why the edge was wrapped in bacon or why it looked like a plain carne asada... or why it came with fries. I would have understood potato la but not fries. My Father in law ordered a chile reyeno... cold. Our family friend ordered ribs with mole. The mole was warm and the ribs were cold. We ordered a choriqueso... hard and cold and when I asked the manager to take the choriqueso off my bill he kept asking me if he could put it in the microwave. I was really looking forward to this restaurant and it was just a big let down. But I mean, try it and let me know if your food was cold too.

Excellent venue, food and atmosphere. Staff is attentive, very good quality drinks, food and desserts. Prices are reflective of the location and setting but still will not call it expensive. Extensive menu plus seasonal specials.. one of those places that i will go again. Christmas decorations were nice, made the whole place very inviting.. am sure it's equally good throughout the year..

Casa de los Azulejos is an absolute must see when visiting Mexico City!!! The moment you step inside, it feels like you’re traveling back in time to the 1920s, the stunning architecture, the tilework, the murals, the mosaics and the historic charm make it one of the most beautiful places in the city, in my opinion. The atmosphere is simply amazing, elegant yet welcoming, and the food is truly delicious. And very affordable… I especially want to highlight the exceptional service from Esteban, who went above and beyond to make our visit memorable. He was attentive, helpful, and had such a positive attitude, truly a great example of excellent hospitality. Esteban nos dio un servicio excelente. The only thing that slightly shadowed the experience was the attitude of the cashier, Donaji. When I approached to pay, she seemed distracted and was playing on her phone, which caused an unnecessary wait. I don’t mean to sound entitled, but acknowledging guests and valuing their time is an important part of good service. Donaji, en su teléfono mientras esperaba para pagar mi cuenta y ni siquiera saludar ni nada, se me hizo un poco profesional de su parte. It stood out mainly because everyone else, especially Esteban, was so professional and friendly. Overall, Casa de los Azulejos is a must visit. Fantastic local food, incredible atmosphere, and timeless beauty. I’d absolutely go back and recommend it to anyone visiting CDMX!!!

Beautiful location, historic and majestic atmosphere. Very very long wait list, but the food was delicious and the prices were so reasonable that we xouldnt believe it. A must on your list when you are in Mexico City! Steps from the Latino-américana Tower and the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Fine Art museum).

First, the good: this historic building is absolutely gorgeous. Built in the late 1800s, it’s full of history and beautiful architecture. Now the bad: if you’re planning to eat here, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. The wait to be seated is unnecessarily long. They use an antiquated system where they call your name, so you’re forced to stand around and wait—even though the place has seating for thousands. The service is extremely poor. You’re required to scan a QR code to view the menu, which is difficult to read online. We ordered enchiladas and specifically requested cheese only, no chicken. I grew up in Mexico eating enchiladas, and these were by far the worst I’ve had: cold, stale tortillas, a flavorless sauce, and dry chicken—despite our request. To make matters worse, they also brought the wrong size plate. Service was almost nonexistent overall. It’s truly a shame, because a place with this much history and beauty should be offering great food and attentive service.

This building is really beautiful from outside, it is a multiple business building from inside, shops and a restaurant with multiple dinning rooms each call with different name but I believe own by the same restaurant. The architecture inside is beautiful. You can go in if you don't want tk eat just to see it , they will allow as well to vitisit the shops if you interested. Right in the Zocalo area you won't miss it the tiles are gorgeous from the outside. Recommend it

Good Christmas vibes. Beautiful place. Average or below average food for the price (don't order fish). For a popular restaurant, there's no waiter or waitress who can speak English, nor English menu. And the cashier kept asking for tips for the service not up to the standards.

Great architecture and the restaurant is really beautiful both outside and inside. There was a long wait to be seated on the first floor or second floor near the stairs with good views. We didn’t want to wait so got seated on the second floor in a room that looks like a banquet hall (there were lots of space up there and it’s still pretty too). Food was good and our server was friendly. But the cashier that handled the payment was not friendly.
