Every now and then you walk into place that makes you wish you lived in that city. If I ever move to San Antonio, it'll be because of Sanchos. With countless restaurants and bars in walking distance of our event venue, we still made it a point to grab a Lyft and make it back to Sanchos for our final night in town. Some aesthetics and the laid back atmosphere were reminiscent of a Mid-Atlantic/DMV punk dive, just cleaner. Both the food and drinks were on point and the staff is amazing.
Their frozen margaritas are marked as famous, and while not always a frozen margarita drinker, I had to give them a shot...I was really cold and it wasn't the best move, but worth it. They truly are delicious, thick and smooth. For faster and not as chilling consumption, I did switch to traditional margaritas "with heat" and they do an amazing job of pairing the flavor for a spicy margarita using Haitian Heat. The 1800 Mule was also stellar. I unfortunately don't recall all the drinks my colleague tried aside from a Paloma, but he loved them all.
Worth noting, they're also dog friendly which is nice to see when you're on the road missing your pups.
Haran was our bartender on both occasions and he is a beast with the drinks, but also very attentive, friendly, funny and helpful. I try not to be complicated with ordering, but also had an overwhelming week and couldn't decide on things. It's awesome to walk into a place and be educated on options with intuitive food/drink suggestions. Lance was like a machine, hard at work and knocking out margarita batches, but we luckily had the pleasure of chatting with him (he's far better at multitasking than I) and learning more about the place.
A final shoutout to the server with the pink bangs, I somehow, subconsciously made it my personal mission to always be in her way. She was friendly, fun and hilarious as well, I'm ashamed I missed her name, but she's awesome.
My only regret is that we had pre-planned on our second visit to pick up koozies or other merch that we forgot the first trip, but our Lyft arrived sooner than expected and we failed. Luckily, I found they sell merch online as well and was able to order! The crowd was super diverse and I can't give you a recommendation on it being a good place for a specific occasion, it's just a killer place for anyone, compete with indoor, outdoor and rooftop seating. If you're visiting San Antonio, it's worth escaping the tourist rush to check out this place, or just go there every night of your visit. If you're a local...you know more places than I do, but you should still go here.
Thanks to all the staff at Sanchos for the stellar food, drinks and experience! You totally made our week and brought loads of relief to a long work trip.
