The 40 Best Resorts in the Caribbean: 2024 Readers’ Choice Awards

"Located on a powdery white sand peninsula, Sandals Grande St. Lucian seats its guest on the edge of Rodney Bay, the calmest waters on the island. Here, Over-the-Water suites built in Balinese style with glass-floored pools reveal the marine life below. For guests wanting more than the view of the life aquatic from above, the resort offers access to its waters to PADI certified scuba divers. Divers from all over the world travel to St. Lucia each year to witness some of the world's greatest reef communities and shipwrecks in balmy, crystal-clear waters. Experiencing one of the world's most comprehensive professional diving programs is a part of the all-inclusive package at this resort. Beyond the water, the resort offers land sports ranging from beach volleyball to croquet, table tennis to billiards." - CNT Editors

The Spaniard Review - West Village - New York - The Infatuation

"Going out on a boat for the day is great, but taking a 10-day cruise is far less enjoyable. In both situations, you’re out on the open ocean getting sunshine and not catching fish. But one gets you back to shore before you run out of limes for your beers, while the other leaves you with a shot glass from St. Lucia, a desire never to eat shrimp cocktail again, and the lingering thought that maybe you should have spent your money elsewhere. The experience is more fun when it’s casual and low-commitment, and we feel the same way about The Spaniard. The Spaniard is a bar on a busy stretch in the West Village with an extensive cocktail menu and over 100 types of whiskey. There are a couple TVs that show major sporting events, but this place is much more of a cocktail bar like The Happiest Hour than wherever you watch the first half of Knicks games. While the food is probably better than it is at that sports bar, it’s also considerably more expensive. Overall, you’ll have a better time if you use The Spaniard as a bar rather than a restaurant. We’re clearly not alone in liking The Spaniard for day drinking and for after-dinner cocktails with a group. The whole space - a big horseshoe bar with booths along the walls and a separate dining room - tends to be packed every night and all day on weekends. A lot of West Village bars get crowded, but they’re usually dark, small spaces where you lose your voice trying to yell over deadmau5 blasting from the speakers. The Spaniard, though, is a multi-room space that never gets too loud or dark, where you can comfortably speak with friends or even try to move beyond your “no new friends” policy. But the crowds that make this a fun spot to get drinks also make eating a full meal here a fairly unpleasant experience. The tables always seem to have reserved signs, even though some remain empty for hours, and if you sit at the bar, you’ll have crowds three-deep shouting “whiskey ginger” over your head throughout your meal. The Spaniard serves elevated bar food, like buffalo wings with duck, a ribeye with housemade steak sauce, and lobster toast - and it’s just alright overall. In most cases, the twists don’t actually make the dishes taste better - in the case of the wings, for example, any duck flavor is lost under the grainy, mild buffalo sauce. While some things are pretty good - like the patty melt - the prices all feel a few dollars too expensive, and $25 is more than we’re looking to spend on a patty melt and fries. Dinner at The Spaniard is generally disappointing, but perhaps that’s due to unrealistic expectations. We had (and continue to have) good times drinking at the bar, and we got ahead of ourselves thinking the food could be great as well. It’s yet another reminder that just because something is enjoyable in small doses, it doesn’t mean that more of it will be pleasant as well. Ten days chugging Pepto on a floating amusement park should have taught us that. Food Rundown Oysters Rockefeller These are pretty tasty, but know that any oyster flavor is masked by the melted parmesan. If you’re OK spending $18 for six very rich bites of spinach dip, add some hot sauce. Chopped Broccoli Much like the TV show Dexter, this grabs your attention at first, and then goes downhill. Pecans give it nice crunch, but it’s a really big portion that gets seriously salty as you work your way through all the feta. This could be a good starter to share, though, if eating something green makes you feel better about the burgers and wings on your table. Buffalo Duck Wings We’re usually disappointed with the results of our never-ending search for high quality buffalo wings, and the disappointment continues here. The duck wings are less meaty than their chicken counterparts, and the flavor of the meat gets lost under a ton of grainy, mild sauce. If you’re not a blue cheese fan, make sure to tell your server, because the wings come topped with crumbled blue cheese. Steak Tartare The tartare is very tender and we like the dijon that’s mixed in, but the brown bread crackers have a really strong flavor that overwhelms the meat. So either eat this with a fork, or just get your meat fix from the burger or the patty melt. Patty Melt Served with dry aged meat and some blue cheese, this is the best thing here, and should be on your table, as long as you’re fine spending $25 (with fries). Burger This is a very solid take on a fast food burger that looks like it came straight from a Mickey D’s photo shoot. The sauce on top causes the squishy bun to slide off and it’s tough to avoid spilling melted cheese, but just ask for a lot of extra napkins. And wear a bib." - Matt Tervooren

Best vacation experience we have had. This is the second Sandals resort we visited. The staff was always very friendly and attentive. Spa service was spectacular. I did the exfoliating scrub and massage the last day there and it was a great way to finish off the vacation. Loved the swim-up bar. The food was delicious at all of the restaurants. The only restaurant we didn't visit was Bombay. Great singing at the beginning of the vacation to welcome us to the resort and great singing at the end as a send-off. All around great vacation. We don't get to take vacations every year. When we do get a vacation we like to make the most of it and we feel like we made the most of it here between the resort itself and the excursions that we took.

We just returned from our honeymoon at Sandals Grande St. Lucian, and it truly exceeded every expectation! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with champagne, warm smiles, and a level of service that made us feel like royalty. Staying in a **Club Level room** was an amazing choice — the personalized check-in, concierge service, and extra touches made our experience so special. Our room was spotless, beautifully decorated, and had an incredible view of the turquoise water. Every detail felt romantic and thoughtful, from the turn-down service to the fully stocked bar. The property itself is stunning — white sandy beaches, crystal-clear water, and gorgeous sunsets every evening. The **Club Sandals team** went above and beyond for us, arranging dinner reservations, excursions, and even surprising us with special honeymoon touches. Dining was exceptional — we loved the variety of restaurants and never had a bad meal. The **Italian and seafood options were our favorites**, and breakfast by the beach was magical. We spent most of our days relaxing by the pool or beach, and the vibe was perfect: lively when we wanted fun, but plenty of quiet spots when we wanted privacy. The entertainment at night was fantastic, and we felt completely safe and well taken care of the entire time. If you’re considering Sandals Grande St. Lucian for your honeymoon, **don’t hesitate — it’s worth every penny!** The combination of breathtaking scenery, luxury service, and romantic touches created memories we’ll cherish forever. We can’t wait to return!

We loved our vacation here! Fabulous service, wonderful food, party and quiet pools to choose from and a larger than usual beach for a Caribbean resort. Ocean views are amazing. Really enjoyed all the excursion options and a few staff members in particular were outstanding. Nyah for fitness. Especially her water aerobics class. If I had a chance to hire a personal fitness coach she would be my first choice. Then Jay, who tended a few bars. So welcoming! Lastly, the Sandals photographer who was on our catamaran in the way to Chocolate Hotel was fantastic. I wish I remembered his name. Take this trip. You won’t regret it.

My husband and I recently celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary from July 3–6, 2026, at the one and only Sandals Grande St. Lucian—and once again, it completely exceeded our expectations. This was our second time staying at this breathtaking resort, as we also celebrated our anniversary here in 2021. And let me just say: it felt like coming home to paradise.||We stayed in a Swim-Up Club Level Suite, and it was absolute perfection. ||Toscanini’s became our morning tradition—and we’re seriously missing their Crunchy Banana French Toast with warm rum syrup. It was the kind of breakfast that makes you pause and savor every bite. So, so delicious!||We are beyond thankful to several amazing Sandals team members who went above and beyond to make our stay extra special:||✨ Rhea Charles, you and your entire team—including Vinette & Judy—are true gems. Your warmth and hospitality didn’t go unnoticed.|✨ Gordon’s on the Pier continues to be our favorite dining spot, and we were so well taken care of by Phillip, who was incredibly kind and attentive. A special shoutout to Hannah, the gracious host at Gordon’s—your friendly energy set the tone for a beautiful evening.|✨ It was a pleasure meeting Mrs. Elisha, who has been with Sandals since this resort opened in 2002—her pride and love for the property is evident in every interaction.|✨ Brittany at the Jerk Shack is a ray of sunshine! Her genuine, warm personality made each visit feel like chatting with an old friend.|✨ And last but not least, Larry, the evening duty manager, checked on us regularly with his bubbly and upbeat personality, making sure we were having the best time possible.||Sandals Grande St. Lucian is a place that holds a very special place in our hearts. From the stunning views and incredible food to the staff who make you feel like family—this resort has become our go-to for celebrating love, relaxation, and luxury.||We’re already looking forward to our next visit. Until then, we’ll be dreaming of breakfast at Toscanini’s and sunsets on the pier.

We had a wonderful time during our trip to Saint Lucia! The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, making our stay relaxing and enjoyable. We especially loved the fun activities by the pool, there was always something going on to keep us entertained. One of the highlights was the dinner on the pier, absolutely delicious food in a stunning setting. A special thank you to Eddie, our server, who did an outstanding job and made the evening even more memorable. We will definitely be back!

WOW, is all I can say about my recent stay at Sandals Grande in St. Lucia ! My husband and I went for a week to celebrate our 10 year Anniversary, and they did not disappoint. From the minute my husband and I arrived, we were greeted with an upbeat song and smiles, cool scented towels, and a mango mimosa that was delicious 😋. It certainly left a lasting impression, especially with the almost 5 hour plane ride and 2 hour crazy car ride! I have to say the island is incredibly beautiful and almost every employee greeted us with a smile or went out of their way to say hello and how we were doing during the entire week. I had some great conversations with some of the employees and bartenders. We enjoyed the Peter specials that some of the guests raved about. | Otis was one of my favorite bartenders ! Quiet at first, but my husband and I would stay and talk to him a few of the nights, and I really enjoyed all of our conversations and the time we spent together. Our room was always very clean, and I looked forward to seeing the housekeeper, Roxie, smile and quickly chat with us in the hallway as we went about our day. She was the sweetest and kept everything spotless in our room. I like to spread kindness wherever I go, so I would leave her a note with a special quote on it to brighten her day. She would play along with me and write me something cute or leave a decorative towel on our bed. She is very talented, and I really appreciated her. Tenesha was another employee that was very kind and informative with all the water sports . I appreciated everything she had to tell us. Eddie chatted with us for almost an hour before we waited one of our excursions to start. He was lovely to chat with and I really appreciated him. | Half way through our week, we made an effort to see the Halycon. Another great resort. The bartender, Vince, had an amazing smile and welcomed us like we were there the entire time! A smile goes a long way and name recognition goes even further because it shows you care, so I thank him for that because he would call us by our names. I love that sandals make the employees wear name tags because I really like to call people by their names. | The food was amazing at both resorts !! Bombay was my absolute favorite restaurant ,and I am not really a fan of Indian food. Everything was very fresh! The grilled snapper with the lemon caper sauce at Barefoot by the sea was my favorite dish ! It was so light and refreshing and didn’t make me feel so full like some of the other dinners we had but enough to satisfy you.| The beach was beautiful ! The water was warm, clear and the snorkeling was amazing! We also hiked Pigeon island which is a must ! The views are something I have never seen before. | I thank you Sandals for the memorable vacation that my husband and I had! It was certainly one to remember and I will cherish forever.| If I might add a suggestion to better the stay of the guests ( and this is just being picky by other conversations I had with others), is to add a coffee shop ! A barista that will make you flavored hot or iced coffees, lattes, cappuccinos or chillers would make us coffee lovers in the U.S not go through withdrawal for a week hahaha also, another gelato or ice cream shop would be greatly appreciate too. Again, these are just a few suggestions to improve the overall sandals grande experience, but everything was almost perfect with our stay!!! Thanks again :)

Beautiful hotel outside. Inside needs major updating. We had issues with the water not draining in the shower, the pipes had a horrible smell, and the bed was very uncomfortable. We also had something chewing at night in the vents. Several guests told us their beds were the same. Best experience hospitality wise we could ask for. PETER PETER PETER go see this man at the swim up bar! He’s amazing! Ask for the Peter special. You won’t be disappointed with what he makes for you. The island is stunning, HIGHLY recommend taking the ferry over. Much better than a private ride or riding the bus.

This resort for our honeymoon was great and I would recommend it to others. The staff created a welcoming and exciting environment. We especially enjoyed meeting Peter at the pool bar. The Peter special is to die for and he himself is extremely down to earth and wants to take care of all guests. Peter stood out as he went above and beyond to ensure all guests were taken care of. One complaint would be the restaurants service, specifically the Italian. We waited for our food for over an hour after ordering. The service here could use some work to make this experience more enjoyable. The rooms were cleaned and housekeeping was always great. We really enjoyed our stay and will miss it!
