My friend came into town and asked if I wanted to stay with her at the Sandbourne Hotel in Santa Monica. She didn't have to ask me twice so I packed up and checked in on Thursday and checked out on Saturday. The hotel is an AC Marriott - it used to be Le Merigot back in the day. The lobby was beautiful, modern, bright and was nicely decorated. The room was big and accommodated us just fine. You can't beat the location - its right on Ocean Avenue within walking distance to Main Street, the Promenade, Palisades Park and countless restaurants and shopping, there's also access to the beach and bike path. You really don't need to drive your car unless you're leaving the Santa Monica area. Note: There is no self-parking and valet costs $70 um, no thanks. I found a covered and secure public parking lot within 4 blocks of the hotel and left my car there for an affordable $15 a night. Everyone from the people who checked you in, the servers in the restaurants and the ladies who are charged with keeping the hotel nice and clean could not have been any nicer. This is probably the friendliest staff I have ever encountered and I can't say enough good things about them. Special shout out to Julissa (sp?) who worked the coffee bar in the lobby. What an incredibly nice woman. It was so nice to come down from the room, sit have my coffee and chat with her. I stayed on the property the entire time, there was no need to go anywhere and it was a perfect Staycation for me. The hotel itself is not that big - six or seven floors, there's no rooftop pool or bar but I got over that quick. The pool was within close proximity to the restaurant and although I didn't lay out, it was nice to look at. There are plenty of lounge chairs and plenty of shade so I brought a couple of books, iPad and got up on all of my reading and writing. The gym was beautiful - it had everything you could want. Pelotons, treadmill, ellipticals and weights. It was nicely laid out, very modern and clean. For Fourth of July, we had some other girlfriends come out, we had a delicious dinner at the hotel, then moved on over to the lounges in the patio area, hung out, had champagne, watched fireworks and got caught up. I had just come home from a big hiking trip up north so this is exactly what I needed and wanted. All in all, it was a great time, a good way to spend the Fourth of July and good experience. I would highly recommend the Sanbourne AC to everyone. You can't beat the location and the most wonderful staff. I felt lucky to have stayed there.
