Best Sushi Restaurants in Phoenix, Arizona | Eater Phoenix

"An import from Palm Springs, this Scandinavian-designed sushi bar in the Melrose District is as cozy as it gets and offers an impressive glowing back bar of Japanese whiskies. Japanese-trained chef Engin Onural turns out clever tuna tataki tacos and florid signature maki rolls such as the Sandfish, which combines spicy tuna, kanikama, and avocado in a roll topped with fried potato threads, spicy aioli, teriyaki sauce, micro greens, green onion, and black truffle zest." - Nikki Buchanan

We had a wonderful dinner at Sandfish! The bar was so nice that we actually asked to sit there. Josh, the bartender, was very nice and gave us the most wonderful recommendations for sushi! His drinks were delicious too. Thank you, Josh! Highly recommend!

My husband likes to say, there’s a difference between eating and dining. And this place is definitely dining. It has quickly become our favorite date night spot. In fact, the reviews complaining about how slow the service is are frustrating because they are completely missing the concept. This isn’t a place where you come, chow down some food, and get on within an hour. This is a place to sit, enjoy a cocktail (or a few), experience unique flavors, and indulge in the company of who you’re with. Take in the romantic atmosphere. Have a conversation. Remove yourself from the constant hustle and bustle and DINE!

10/10 must come here! We got lucky and sat outside by the fire and the vibe was very romantic and relaxing. Fish tasted super fresh, loved the crudo scallops, al pastor bao, and the sushi! The presentation is just beautiful. The waitresss was super nice too Will def be back!!

Google
Upscale quality without feeling like a super pompous atmosphere. Our server was attentive without being overbearing, and very polite and engaging. The food quality was great, presentation was beautiful and you can really tell the freshness of the fish/seafood. A little on the pricier side, but the quality reflects that.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary here the other day. We both couldn’t stop commenting how good every bite was. The layers of flavors were amazing. Hands down our favorite thing was the sandfish roll but the spicy tuna tostadas were a close contender. We also got the shredded duck bao buns, melrose roll and A5 Tokyo beef crunch roll with wagyu which didn’t disappoint! They were out of the dragonfruit sorbet I was excited to try but I was not sad while eating their blood orange sorbet. They accidentally brought us a mango sorbet as well and we gobbled that up too. I can’t decide which was my favorite and my husband couldn’t get over how good his matcha blueberry cheesecake with Oreo crust was. We can’t wait to go back and try the rest of the menu. Staff and atmosphere were awesome. An absolute perfect meal from start to finish.

I’m obsessed with everything about this place the sushi is so good and the garnishes are perfect. Everything is thought out down to the leather check books. Perfect for an intimate dinner or a solo sushi date.

We ordered takeout from this spot a few months ago, and it was hands down the best sushi I’ve had in Arizona. We finally stopped in for dine-in last night, and somehow it was even better in person! Our server was incredibly sweet, and the food was so delicious we devoured everything and ordered more. *The pork belly was an easy 10/10, the sandfish (duh!) was equally amazing. Finish off with the Ube oil cake 🤤 basically everything was a hit

Google
Everything I ordered was fantastic, and I ordered many different things. I'd go so far as to say it's some of the best sushi I've had. Nigiri, maki, sashimi all of the highest quality. The beef gyoza, perfectly prepared. The yellowtail crudo was the standout here. The green goddess vegan roll was better than expected, lots of flavors competing for your attention. Make sure you try the pickled wasabi, it mellows the heat and adds a touch of salty sweetness (hard to describe, just try it, you won't regret it). The service is excellent and attentive, but not intrusive. Comfortable and clean, the inside dining area is nicely arranged in a soothing way. I didn't visit the covered patio dining area. I ate too much. Highly, highly recommended!

Yelp
Our group of five enjoyed an impromptu late sushi dinner at Sandfish. We were strolling by and were drawn to the beautiful interior ambience of this restaurant. Stephanie was our server and she was friendly and attentive. Many in our group are "sushi snobs" and we all enjoyed the presentation and quality of the fish. We didn't take advantage of the whiskey element, but look forward to incorporating that during our next visit!

Yelp
It was good, but not that exciting of a sushi place. Vibe was great and we enjoyed the company, but service was lackluster and the food was a bit underwhelming for the price point. However, I did hear that maybe they have an omakase menu and that's what you should go for. Not sure if it's true so you might want to do your research, but the regular restaurant menu is take it or leave it for me unless someone else really wants to go.

Yelp
This may have just taken its rightful place as my #1 sushi spot in PHX. I honestly want to gate-keep it but iykyk! I had been wanting to bring my parents while they were town because we all love sushi and my dad is a big whiskey guy. He said their old fashioned was in his top 3 of best he'd ever had. I had their drink of the week which was a basil gimlet and it was one of the most well balanced cocktails I have ever had! Casey was our server and she was so sweet and helpful every step of the way and never steered us wrong! When it came to food we stared with the hh menu and got the spicy edamame, salmon carpaccio, and yellowtail crudo. Then we have a few maki rolls. And when I tell you we did have a single bad thing, we did have anything that was not outstanding. Vibes inside were nice and classy. Natural wood tones, fun accent wall paper, mermaid tiles behind the bar all complimented each other so well, good vibes. Will 110% be back!

Yelp
Well prepared sushi and a deep whiskey list: what's not to like? I sat at the bar and had a good time chatting briefly with the bartender throughout the evening. He was open with suggestions about the whiskey list, and I was pleased when he said to just drink Kavalan Concertmaster neat or on a rock rather than mess with a good whiskey. The uni nigiri was one of the standouts, as it was Hokkaido sea urchin that just arrived that day. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented. I like the vibe inside, even though outside it doesn't appear to be much. This was my second visit, and I plan to move this up the list a place to visit more often!

Yelp
Great vibes but the food is meh. At this price point you can definitely find better spots. Ambiance is nice and they've definitely got the vibe down, but service wasn't super impressive. Food was fine but again, not impressed. Was really excited for the wagyu hot stone, but they should've skipped the marinade, (too sweet), and their "ssamjang" sauce tasted more like a ketchup gochujang, " chimichurri" sauce was also not done well. I was pretty upset that our fries came out completely stale and cold, but the cucumber salad it came with was refreshing. Nigiri's were fine, just expensive, and the rolls were mid. We got two of their most popular rolls and there were no standout flavors, I prefer what Harumi had to offer.

Yelp
I'm not usually a sushi lover, but Sandfish is the exception! A great spot to try (especially for Happy Hour!). You can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Service is always friendly and attentive!

Yelp
On repeat. I have wanted to try this spot for soooo long, but it's a bit out of the way for me and other places got ahead of it. No longer. This is going on repeat. The interior is rather minimalist, but it suits the tone of the food, lets the food be the star. We were in time for happy hour and took advantage of several offerings on the HH menu. Old fashioned was spot on. Right amount of orange to sweet to whiskey ratio, tasted like Bullitt, but not sure. We had the tuna tataki tacos (2 on HH menu). They were spicy and crunchy, the right amount of fresh tuna to tortilla. We also had the HH nigiri, chef's choice, and each morsel was not only beautiful but distinctly flavored. Sorry, don't remember the choices but some I have avoided because of past experiences but these were lovely. We also ordered the sweet and spicy roll, a combination of crab and spicy tuna with chili garlic crisp delicately dabbled across the top. . Delicious. Our final roll was a yellowtail tuna. Spicy. Packed with tuna. Can't wait to go back. Service was nicely paced, plates came and west effortlessly.

Yelp
Sandfish was great! My family and I came here to celebrate a birthday, after hearing about it on Yelp. The food, drinks, and service at this intimate little sushi restaurant were all so good. The restaurant is located in the Melrose district right next to a coffee shop. It has just a handful of tables inside as well as bar seating. We made dinner reservations a couple days prior thru their website, and the staff was kind enough to adjust our reservation time on the day of. For the table, we ordered a sashimi platter, tuna taster, shishito peppers, and the Essensu no Hamachi. For individual entrees, we got the grilled octopus, scallop tiradito, Sandfish roll, Melrose roll (special not on menu), yellowtail crudo, and duck bao. Our favorites were the sashimi--especially the snapper which was surprisingly buttery--and the yellowtail crudo because of the sauce. Our least favorite was the duck bao (tasted good but just not worth the price). The food was all really great quality and they had a HAPPY HOUR menu all day Sun-Thurs. Portions were small especially considering the price, but the quality of the seafood is there hands down. For dessert, they gave us an ube oil cake for the birthday boy. Shoutout to Jillian for the wonderful service!

Yelp
A hidden gem, although not that hidden! Right off of 7th Avenue, in the Melrose District, this restaurant sits quietly in plain sight. I have passed by this location several times, and am surprised I hadn't noticed it before, but I am quite aware of their Palm Springs location. My family came to Sandfish to celebrate a birthday, and the experience did not disappoint. I unfortunately did not get my waitress' name, but she such a delight! The restaurant was modern, sleek, and dare I say....sexy? I can totally see myself returning for a date night, as the atmosphere provides such nice intimacy. The food... A+ all around! We decided to try a little bit of everything, not only because we were hungry, but because we wanted to try a little of everything. We started with Chicken Gyoza & Brussels Sprouts, unfortunately no pix of either, but that's because we ate them up so quickly. I will say the Brussels Sprouts blew our minds with out delectable they were. For dinner we moved to 3 sushi rolls and two entrees. To be clear all three rolls were absolutely fantastic, but if I had to rate them in order, I would say my favorite was Koko, followed by Lollipop, then Savory Albacore. The two entrees were both delicious, but of course, the Wagyu was the star. Lastly the waitress was nice enough to surprise us with a birthday dessert, and let me tell you that the cheesecake is perfection. It is rich, creamy, and the perfect size to enjoy but not overindulge. Fantastic place, needs more attention on it! I know I will be back, and bringing with me all my friends and future dates.

Yelp
I really enjoyed Standish Sushi and Whiskey, the service was outstanding and the rolls amazingly fresh, and unique! They have a sunset menu that is a wonderful deal! We took advantage of the sunset menu, that's offered from from 4:30 to 6:30pm. We had old fashioned's, crab rolls, cucumber salad, tuna tataki tacos, and yellowtail sashimi. We also ordered from the dinner menu and had the venue roll and the ginger ceviche roll. Both incredible! Definitely recommend checking out Sandfish! I can't wait to go back
google avatar

Rong R.

Yelp
The food was amazing! My friends and I tried almost all the happy hour dishes and they were all tasty! I was especially impressed by the Tatare cone and blue crab zushi, which were both a mix of crunchy, soft, and savory. Most importantly, all the fish and seafood we ordered tasted pretty fresh. The ambiance was nice too, feel like your were in a Japanese izakaya, very quite and minimal. Would definitely want to visit again to try the other dishes on the menu.

Yelp
Stop playin' with me why have i been living under a rock! This place is straight up top pick candidate, let me start with the spritz! I don't know how but these guys managed to make ice colder than it usually is because my drink was super cold and was so fire! Do it! Second the salmon was so fresh so soft and so good. The chef sliced the fish right in front of me and i could tell they loved creating these dishes for each guest! Love it! Parking was limited but i wouldn't call that an issue in downtown phx.
google avatar

Justin R.

Yelp
I had an outstanding experience here. The quality of the fish was some of the best I've had in town--fresh, clean, and beautifully prepared. The rolls were creative without being over the top, with really fun flavor combinations that worked well. Service was attentive and friendly. On top of that, the ambiance made the whole meal feel relaxed and enjoyable.
google avatar

Yelp
I would go again for the sushi, super fresh and at a solid price point. My corpse reviver cocktail was recommended by our waitress and it was amazing! Was not a big fan of the octopus however as it was super salty, and the duck bao was also a little underwhelming. The restaurant itself is nice and peaceful, candlelit, and perfect for a nice dinner.
google avatar

Kaelyn G.

Yelp
Food was excellent. Service was just fine. However, overpriced in my opinion and nothing that makes it stand out from other upscale sushi restaurants. We went for the first day of restaurant week and unfortunately were told that the restaurant week menu would not be starting until the following day, which was disappointing. Overall, had a nice dinner but nothing spectacular in service, and left hungry with a big bill.

Chris P.

Yelp
Food was pretty good, service was great. The scallops could've been cooked and seasoned better

Yelp
My fav sushi spot in PHX. It's consistent, lowkey but beautiful restaurant. It has a gorgeous patio in the back that makes for an intimate dinner. The service is attentive. It's a little pricey but hit up happy hour if that's an issue. HH is still pricey though candidly. Regardless the tuna tostadas are a must. Gyoza is delish too, both chicken and beef. Do not recommend the bao buns. Drinks are great!
google avatar

Chris N.

Yelp
First time trying this place on a Friday evening. Plenty of spaces on open table so we made a reservation just in case. Wasn't too necessary, but we went ahead and sat at the bar: it's a smaller sized restaurant but it is in no way a one hit wonder. The sushi here is amazing, it's a good medium between lower priced options such as sushiholic and higher priced options like Uchi. It's an inviting place to have some sushi and really good drinks and is not overly intimidating. The rolls were delicious and the fish was fresh tasting. We had a number of cocktails and each were well designed and made. I'm glad there's a place that emphasizes two things I love: sushi and whiskey. Would definitely come back again and again! A chill spot to enjoy it a nice spot for a relaxed celebration.

Yelp
Having recently experienced Sandfish during a Yelp Elite event (thanks, Yelp!) I really wanted to share the restaurant with my family. We visited on a Sunday evening. Most patrons were seated in the covered patio behind the restaurant, which is a beautiful space with a two-way fireplace and built-in heaters in the ceiling. We ordered 2 Mocktails: Baltic Nights and Virgin Garden. Baltic nights is sweet, citrusy and delicious. Virgin Garden was much lighter in flavor...we preferred Baltic Nights. Food was excellent all around, as was the attentive service. We ordered a ton for 3 people: *Assorted tempura (very lightly battered, perfect!) *Spicy edamame (quite spicy!) *Pork gyoza (pan fried and delicate) *Broccolini & baby bok choy (the sauce from this dish is phenomenal. We kept the bowl u til the end of the meal, to dip other things into!) *Akami crudo (fresh and flavorful) *Nigiri platter (omakase style: my favorite of the evening!) *The Experiment (filling maki roll) *Blue butterfly (vegetarian maki roll with tofu and blue rice..so pretty!) Successful night. My family wants to return! :)

Yelp
Sushi that melts in your mouth every time! We took my mother in law here who is Korean and she fell in love. The sushi is so fresh you'd think we are living by the beach! The price is 100% worth it if you like and want quality sushi. Everyone is also so nice and friendly here. The restaurant could get a little dark at night but it doesn't bother me. There's candles placed throughout the restaurant and table for ambiance.
google avatar

Riley G.

Yelp
Cozy and intimate restaurant with a cute outdoor seating area. The sushi is super fresh and great quality. The drinks were amazing as well! Service was a little slower but it was well worth the wait.
google avatar

Desiree D.

Yelp
Cute little sushi restaurant in the melrose district. The interior is small and intimate but I heard that the back patio is great. Service was great and they really took care to make sure we enjoyed our meal. Food was decent. Short rib sushi was unfortunately dry but the gyoza and New York strip hot stone were both good. The little salad that came with the hot stone was one of the best things I ate.
google avatar

Paige B.

Yelp
This place was surprisingly amazing! Literally, everything I had was outstanding. Had the Brussels sprouts and edamame for appetizers, then the lollipop roll and the experiment for main course. You literally cannot go wrong with anything. Even the drinks were good! I was introduced to a new drink, the gimlet... and that will now be my drink of choice. The place was cute, cozy and comfortable and the service was amazing. The waitstaff was locked in and super friendly. I love it here!
google avatar

Joy W.

Yelp
Solid place for sushi! Every dish was nothing short of amazing! Service was great! We had the sand fish and the experiment roll and the chicken gyoza with its yummy sauce for starters! Will definitely be back when I'm back in the area!
google avatar

Yelp
Can't wait to go back. I have loved Sandfish Sushi since it opened. Their drinks are well balanced and food is delicious. I also feel their staff is very knowledgeable and has always been able to make good recommendations. But now they have an AMAZING happy hour menu with so many choices and great prices!! Some of my favorites are the tuna tostadas, the sandfish sushi roll, and the sashimi. Oh, and the wallpaper in the bathroom is a fish print, so fitting
google avatar

Kaylin W.

Yelp
Went here for my friends birthday dinner and was able to try many dishes! To start out the restaurant is very well done, the back patio is gorgeous. The heaters in the ceiling , the wood paneling , the beautiful cactuses. The actual location could be better, very minimal parking. I also prefer a host stand at nice restaurants so i'm not just standing around until someone is free to help me. The highlights for me were the beef gyoza , blue crab zushi, the sandfish roll, and the experiment. The topping of the sandfish was incredible with the crispy potatoes, this is the roll Id recommend if only getting one. For drinks i'd recommend the Freya, it's a nice lychee vodka cocktail. Overall a great meal i'd go back for a date night or happy hour to try some more dishes!
google avatar

Rayvyn A.

Yelp
In one word: AMAZING! I've been looking for spot with quality sushi and this place did not disappoint. The yellowtail crudo, salmon nigiri, and New York hot stone were our absolute favorites. I would also recommend the chefs nigiri plate (7 pieces). Very large selection of wines as well as all types of whiskey. We sat on the patio during happy hour, beautifully shaded with ceiling fans. Loved the plant life surrounding us as well. Jillian was our server and if there is one thing that makes me want to order more is an honest and knowledgeable server, she was fantastic. 11/10 will absolutely be back and recommend to others!!
google avatar

Adriana R.

Yelp
Came here with a 6pm reservation with friends and had 30 mins of Happy Hour so ordered some drinks, the Brussels and 1 maki roll off the HH menu. We also ordered the KoKo roll off the signature menu. Our food came out in a timely manner but unfortunately our friends rolls were never put in and we were waiting around for them so when we asked the waiter, there was miscommunication after a bit so they just cancelled the rolls. The service was still good and so was the food that did come out for them but wish there was more clarification from the waiter. They made it right by offering a free drink but still bummed. Overall, everything was great and would def come back again regardless of the mishap the first time. Restaurant is a little small inside but we loved the lighting.
google avatar

Melissa O.

Yelp
Wow this place is beautiful, the ambience is very beautiful...perfect for a date or small party. Drinks are unique and absolutely fabulous, they have a wide range of Japanese liquors. Sushi is high quality and carefully crafted by their sushi chefs. Staff is so sweet and the owner is awesome! I will back!
google avatar

Kelly B.

Yelp
I came here for dinner with several people from work. I had heard that this place was rather pricey, so I was glad I didn't have to pay for the meal! When you get to the restaurant, parking is pretty tricky. There are only a few spaces out front, no lot in the back, and no valet. I ended up parking behind Copper Star Coffee (even though I probably wasn't supposed to, but what else was I supposed to do!) We sat out back, which was very nice. The inside of the restaurant looked small, but nice as well. We started off ordering drinks. I ordered this amazing cocktail that tasted like a spicy margarita with matcha in it. We ordered a few sushi rolls, some duck bao buns, the scallop and braised octopus appetizers. I also ordered a scallop hand roll. The service was great. All of the food was very good, but the one thing I noticed is that none of the flavors "popped" like they did with my cocktail. This is one thing I have appreciated about some other good sushi restaurants I have been to (they sometimes add a subtle hint of acid or a sauce that pairs well with the dishes).
google avatar

Jasleen K.

Yelp
This place has the BEST tuna tartare tacos! We came here because we had a bite of their food at the DELISH food festival at the botanical gardens and we were blown away. The food, ambiance, and service was awesome!! It's very cute and perfect for a romantic date night or celebration, or even just some really yummy food! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yasmin T.

Yelp
Amazing always!! The best quality fish and the drinks are incredible they also have a great happy hour menu. For the NA folks there is a wonderful selection of mocktails too :)

Mary H.

Yelp
Really good sushi. It's a small spot but I think they have a patio out back and in the front. Parking was tough but the food was worth it.
google avatar

Shelby H.

Yelp
Had a great time here- pina colada with ube is a must try. Shared a bunch of plates with friends, top dishes are the yellowtail crudo, octopus and venue roll. Also don't forget to try the matcha and blueberry cheesecake.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped in for a catchup dinner and we just randomly chose a place on OpenTable and let me tell you it was amazing. I loved the look and decor of the restaurant and we were immediately greeted when we walked in by the host. Our server, Stephanie, was amazing - Thank you girl! I saved my appetite for dinner so I wanted to try a little of everything. I ordered the spicy tuna tostadas, miso soup, California Experience Roll w/ real crab and the Chicken Gyoza. Everything was on point and I wanted to order more but I was completely full. Thank you and I think I am stopping in tonight for a to order haha!
google avatar

Corey H.

Yelp
I ordered it ubereats, and they definitely get an A+ for packaging. As far as the rolls, I ordered 3: The Venue roll: this one I'd rate highly and the sauces were really tasty. It had a nice kick and left me satisfied. The Sandfish roll: yeah no. It was coated in fried potato crisps, but once you remove the crunch, it tasted like a basic California roll (but 5 times the price). The Wagyu roll: could be the time til delivery or perhaps the fact I ate it sober, but I was not impressed. The meat didn't have much flavor. The side salad was heavy and not so tasty. Also just a basic roll with thin sliced meat on top. I'm not giving it 3 star because the quality of the ingredients is above that grade. However, 5 star would imply amazing taste. Four stars seems pretty accurate. I actually think this sushi would be excellent (and perhaps even 5 star) after 3 mixed drinks.
google avatar

Kat A.

Yelp
Sandfish offers fantastic sushi, top-notch service, and tasty drinks. It's a great spot if you're looking for a quality meal and a relaxed vibe. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Kevyn G.

Yelp
Sandfish is an absolute gem in Phoenix's Melrose District! This authentic sushi spot never disappoints with its fresh and diverse menu options. The cocktails and mocktails are a mixology dream, and the service is top-notch. Some of the menu's MVPs are the cauliflower bao buns, chicken gyoza, venue roll, and tuna tostadas. Josh and Katy are rockstars who always make us feel deeply welcome every time we stop in. If you want a lovely spot to have a meal that consistently hits the spot, look no further than Sandfish. Bonus: happy hour menu everyday from 4:30-6:30pm!

Yelp
Calling all sushi lovers!!! If you're looking for a great quality in sushi, a laid back atmosphere, well look no more. Sandfish is the place to be. AMAZING quality in fresh fish, beautiful decor, overall an amazing place. I went with friends and it seems like we tried just about everything on the menu. We ALL recommend the following: Apps: Spicy Edamame Pork Belly Bao Buns Stuffed zucchini blossom Brussels Sprouts Sushi: The experiment Sashimi yellowtails Wagyu Signature Rolls Baby Longustine Dessert Matcha Cream Puffs Everything was delectable! No complaints, no disappointments, just all good. Shout out to our server Josh for serving us, really cool individual and gave really great recommendations. We'll definitely be back to visit again soon! Rate 10/10

Yelp
This was probably my second time eating sushi where I thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't grow up eating sushi and always thought it was weird to eat raw seafood but I have expanded my sushi horizon. I'm so glad Sandish Sushi & Whisky is the real deal. The interior decor and atmosphere is very inviting. This place was very clean also. One of the first things I do before getting my food is I'll go wash my hands, which is what I did while here. The restroom was beautiful. Black bathroom appliances and wallpaper was different from any restroom I've seen in a restaurant. Our server/bartender Josh provided great service. Explaining the menu and options. Offering suggestions since it was my first time there. I'll definitely be returning and trying other sushi. I tried the Wagyu signature role which was amazing. The spring zucchini blossoms and brussel sprouts were so delicious.

Yelp

Yelp
10/10 Went to celebrate my best friends medical school graduation. We were greeted with champagne and welcoming staff. The ambiance is comfortable and perfect for an intimate dinner. The sushi was outstanding and our spicy drinks were so good... so good we got them 3 times! Wish I could have tried more things! Looking forward to my next visit
google avatar

Kevin K.

Yelp
We were excited to try this place after seeing it featured on FOX news. Bartender knows his stuff and the drinks were great. Waitress was great, very nice and knowledgeable. Sushi was extremely slow to come out. For sushi it was ok, small pieces for the nigiri. Rolls were tasty but a little heavy with sodium. Wasn't busy while there so don't know why service was so slow. A bit over priced as well.
google avatar

Jess B.

Yelp
We went the other night and had a beautiful meal on the back patio (definitely recommend asking for back patio seating. We ordered off the a new menu; get the blue crab and matcha cake dessert!
google avatar

Stephanie O.

Yelp
Great place for little get togethers or date night. There is parking around the area. The place is on the smaller side but table and bar seats available. We made reservations beforehand. The cocktails and the food were awesome. This was tapas style for our table and we enjoyed all of it. The bao buns were soft and the meat was tender and delicious. The dumplings were awesome. The sushi and sashimi were light and fresh and the octopus was well cooked and well seasoned. Definitely a great spot and many more dishes left to try!
google avatar

Megan M.

Yelp
Sandfish has quickly become our go to sushi date spot. Their fish is so fresh it easily outdoes any other place we have been to in the Valley. Their new executive chef, Eddie, has the BEST customer service and is so kind and attentive. He went out of his way to explain us his new dishes, and came back multiple times to ask how we liked our food. He just released multiple items this week on the new menu that are a must try - especially the Nigiri and the Broccolini side. Also, their server Katie is SO sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. Plus the ambiance on the patio is one of our favorite parts. We will be regulars at this spot & have been recommending it to all our friends. Great job sandfish!!!

Yelp
Had a great time on a daddy daughter valentines date. She chose sushi I chose the spot, decided to try something new. I should start with saying I will come back and try other things as they have a good happy hour, good vibes, and great service. Pretty basic food at a sushi spot so that's why I'll give it another try. Edamame, brussels, and California "maki" roll was good but the pork bun was tough and pretty uneatable. Was really excited to have her try something new in the piers bun but she could barely get a bite because the pork was like shoe leather. Bun was soft flavors were good but man that chunk of pork might as well have been a hockey puck. Hope it was a one off but if not that's unfortunate cus anything new nearby is always nice to add to the rotation. Hoping for better offerings going forward

Yelp
Recently viewed a review of Sandfish Sushi and Whiskey on 7th avenue in Phoenix. This place looking interesting and has a different twist in several rolls. We booked an outdoor table in the back covered patio with heaters and a fireplace. Even though 7th Avenue is a busy street, it was remarkably quiet once inside. We were seated and ordered appetizers of brussel sprouts, beef dumplings and spicy tuna tostadas. The brussel sprouts were vinegary and not very good. The tostadas and dumplings were good and tasty. The time it took to get appetizers was ridiculous and our waitress was MIA. At one point, I got up to find our server and located her hiding around the corner texting on her phone. At one point, we had no wait staff for 20 minutes. We ordered 6 different sushi rolls and again, waited 45 minutes for them to be presented all at one time. Our roll order was Sandfish, Scandinavian, California dreaming, crunchy and lollipop. The attention to our table was not a priority for our waitress. The Sandfish, dragon and Scandinavian rolls were unique and quite tasty. They were a good choice. The California dreaming was adequate. The lollipop was to large to eat and fell apart once you picked it up. It is not worth ordering. The crunchy roll had no flavor. The most disappointing aspect of our meal was the lack of attention by the wait staff. 45 minutes with no contact from the wait staff us unacceptable. She either needs intense training on customer service or reassignment to a different career path. I don't feel a need to return to Sandfish. It was not worth our time and the food, with a few exceptions, was not remarkable. Our biggest regret was a blow opportunity for an evening out with good food, family and decent service.
