The 15 Best Restaurants In Savannah, Georgia

"Sandfly BBQ used to operate out of a Streamliner trailer, but now has a brick and mortar between downtown and Isle of Hope that’s become a destination in its own right. They specialize in Memphis-style BBQ, but also showcase other dishes like St. Louis ribs and Brunswick stew (said to have been invented in nearby Brunswick), and fries topped with hand-pulled pork for the south’s version of poutine. You should always leave room for sides, including fried okra, baked beans, and coleslaw, to enjoy in the booths in the air conditioning. Come here for a quick lunch while exploring the nearby Wormsloe State Historic Site." - caroline eubanks

Google
Recommended by a Texan for outstanding BBQ. Did NOT disappoint. Stopped by shortly after they opened and got the sampler platter. Fantastic food, period. I’ve never had a BBQ sausage that tasted that good. The subtle sweet mustard glaze was excellent. Brisket was dope. Waited a few minutes for the ribs right out of the smoker. Pulled pork was so tender and juicy. And the chicken was well seasoned and tasty as can be! The sides were awesome. Beans, mac and cheese, and cole slaw were all so so good. Perfect atmosphere. Great service. Can’t miss, y’all!

Google
First time here so I asked a some folks that were there how was the food? All of them talked about how great it is. I tried the brisket macncheese and greens, she had pulled pork cole slaw and okra. It was all delicious! If we lived in Savannah I know we would be here at least a couple times a week 😄. We will be back on our trip next year and I would recommend

Google
Incredible BBQ!! 2 private chefs passing through in Savannah for a month and this place hits on all points!! Two words, MUSTARD SAUCE!!! We had the brisket 🍖 and chicken 🍗 , Cole slaw, great, baked beans, great, meaty, Mac and cheese is bomb!! Enjoy!!!

Theresa Linton

Google
This burger was a slam dunk and the sweet potato fries were thick and succulent!! Mac n Cheese was a little mushy but I feel like Mac n cheese style is subjective and it was tasty nevertheless. I live in the neighborhood and I definitely will start eating here more!!

Google
All around a great place. Service was very good. Food was good. Loved the brisket and pulled pork. Good BBQ sauces. Collards were made perfectly. Very good Brunswick stew. Sausage was a bit greasy, and I did not care for the Mac & cheese.

Kirk Mcgee

Google
Didn't have ribs when they opened. Ordered 2 meat (Chicken/brisket) with fries. Service was a bit slow, food was decent though. Chicken was smoked great, brisket was moist and very flavorful. I thought the fries were good but, could definitely use some type of seasoning. My coworker enjoyed her food too. Price was OUTRAGEOUS though. Definitely not really worth what we paid. I believe for my SMALL portion of brisket, SMALL 1/4 chicken, fries, and drink I paid $24 which is insane.

Google
Was really disappointed in this BBQ. I have traveled all over the US and had BBQ in from all over. This place was not a hot. The good: Chicken was juicy, baked beans great and sweet potatoes fires were good. The OK was the Pork and Brisket. Brisket was a little on the dry side. Okra was too greasy and overly salty but still OK. The bad: the ribs were horrible. Probably some of the worst ribs I have had in a while. Very tough. The Mac and Cheese was disgusting, I couldn’t even eat it. Chalky, no flavor, cold, horrible. These reviews really did not match up with our experience.

Google
A bit of a hole-in-the-wall but doesn’t matter when the brisket is that good. We also got green beans made with pork and texas toast. BBQ sauces are also good, especially the mustard! Not too pricey for what you get. Check it out.

Yelp
This is in a little strip mall with parking right out front. You order at the counter and they bring your food to the table when it is ready. My husband and I ordered the bbq plate for two and added an order of sweet potato fries and Cole slaw. My husband loved it all. As for me, I would have been happy with the ribs, sweet potatoes and maybe some Cole slaw for veggies. Ribs - fall off the bone tender Sweet potato fries were crispy and yummy. Sausage-nicely cooked but too salty ribs- fall off the bone tender. YUMMM!! shredded pork - plain for me but good with bbq sauce poured on top. My husband really liked it. Brisket- plain for me but my husband really liked it. Cole slaw- good Bread- didn't eat as we had so much food including left overs.

Yelp
Stopped in on a recommendation from our daughter. So glad we did. We ordered the Hog Sampler which gave you a portion of all their meats, two sides, and two slices of Texas toast. All the meat was nice and tender and had a great smoked flavor. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs was very tasty. The baked beans have a nice flavor, however, was too much meat and very little beans. The macaroni and cheese were not that good, noodles way over cooked. Potato salad wasn't bad. The building is small however, does provide outside seating . Service was provided with a welcoming friendly smile. Even though a few of the sides were not to my liking the meat definitely was. We will be back.

Yelp
Fantastic BBQ, meat flavor came through with that nice, light smoke rounding it out on the end. Side selections were spot on too! Don't forget ya pickles!
google avatar

Yelp
Best BBQ I have ever had in my life! Upon arrival, they were sold out of sliced brisket and chicken- I now know why! We had pulled pork and chopped beef, it was incredible. The meat was smoked to perfection and served with a delicious BBQ sauce option. My personal favorite side was the macaroni and cheese! In my opinion, the fried okra was a bit salty so I probably wouldn't get that again. That said, this BBQ is a must when in the area! We will be back!!!!

Yelp
This is THE BEST BBQ in Savannah! We go here quite regularly and I have never been disappointed. Don't miss out!

Yelp
Delicious delicious delicious. It really doesn't get much better then this. We have been trying a bbq restaurant in the Savannah area every week for the last month or so. This one, was by far my favorite. (We have now been to about 6 different BBQ places in the area). The staff was incredibly friendly and walked us through the menu and their personal favorites. They have a board right up front that notates what they are out of, so there is no guessing game when it comes time to order. They have 3 speciality BBQ sauces, which were all fantastic. I couldn't pick a favorite. The pulled pork was cooked exceptionally and the smoked chicken melted in my mouth. The coleslaw was fresh and the mac and cheese was gooey and cheesy, without overdoing it. My highlight was the brunswick stew, it seems to have a lighter base than most, and it was my most favorite brunswick stew i've had to date. It was perfectly seasoned and full of veggies pork and beans. Absolutely delicious. Can not recommend Sandfly BBQ enough!!

Lori S.

Yelp
Delish! I had the chopped brisket sandwich and my daughter had the pulled pork sandwich. Great lunch stop after visiting the beautiful historic Wormsloe site.
google avatar

Valerie Marie G.

Yelp
Good food, lower smoke flavor but smooth in taste. Bottles of sauce on the table. They have an easy menu board and do list what items they run out of for the evening. There are tables inside, outside and a good takeout service. Will definitely return and would recommend to anyone who likes BBQ. There's a great selection of things to try.

Faith K.

Yelp
Excellent!!!! The shrimp and grits are the best not just in Savanna, but throughout the region! Tender, sweet shrimp that melt in your mouth, coupled with creamy, savory grits of the perfect texture and collard greens with the right kick!!! The blackened salmon salad was deliciously seasoned, moist, and all components of this simple yet tantalizing salad were fresh and flavorful. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The design and ambiance are chic yet cozy and comfortable. Whether you are on a date, or taking the family to brunch or dinner, you cannot go wrong!

Yelp
Great food at fair prices. The brisket was amazing and so were the ribs. I definitely be back.
google avatar

Patrick G.

Yelp
Delicious BBQ at a great price. The brisket and pulled pork were amazing! Ribs were not great; I think they were pulled off smoker too early and still somewhat tough. The other meats were all great.

Yelp
I really wanted to give it 5 stars, but they messed up my husbands order today and didn't give him sausage but pulled pork Instead. He took his plate up and showed them the mistake. He's a super easy going guy. They took the plate and I was left to eat while he sat and waited. Finally some old lady came out and slapped the plate down. No apology or even "enjoy". So my problem is...they should have let him keep his plate and just gave him the sausage. That way he could be at least eating. That's the proper southern customer service thing to do. After all it was their mistake not his. The gal who took our order was very polite and friendly. Older white lady, not so much. The meat was decent. The okra was on point! Sweet tea was perfectly sweet to my palette. I'd eat here again, but hopefully they'll read this and consider customer service in the future.
google avatar

Carolyn G.

Yelp
I'm not much of a meat eater and prefer vegetables, but I can't stop thinking about the brisket! Amazing!! Juicy, moist, flavorful, and tender. The fried okra delicious! I like spicy but not spicy mac and cheese. I would enjoy it if it didn't have so much black pepper.

Kayla B.

Yelp
After driving around downtown Savannah for what seemed like forever looking for a place to park we decided to venture a little further out and landed at Sandfly BBQ. So happy we did. Our group got a pulled pork sandwich, pulled chicken sandwich, chicken salad sandwich, sausage sandwich, potato salad, baked beans, mac and cheese and fries. Everyone loved their meals! It was VERY good. The service was great. Very friendly, helpful staff! We also bought a couple tshirts and when we couldn't find the size we needed they took the time to look through their stock in the back to find them for us. We will definitely be back next time we are in Savannah.

Yelp
Usual stop for us in Savannah. Generous portions. Tender brisket and pulled pork. Sides never disappoint: fried okra, baked beans with pork, coke slaw, Mac and cheese. Very good. Pick up time on target. However two different counters for prepaid and pay in store. Just an FYI. Will return

Debbie S.

Yelp
Simply excellent BBQ and sides. Great little place! Some of the best pulled pork we have had, and we have had lots!!
google avatar

Kiki L.

Yelp
This is probably the best barbecue in Savannah their Brunswick Stew is amazing! While I love the BBQ chicken, their pulled pork is my husband's favorite. We have only picked up take out, there is limited searing for dine-in.

Nicholas E.

Yelp
I've only lived in Savannah for ten months but this is prob my fav bbq place and the Sandly area is cool. Def worth checking out. Haven't had a bad thing there, it's above your average bbq.
google avatar

Barbara M.

Yelp
We didn't get to eat here because they were out of so many things. (Ribs, brisket, Mac and cheese, fries just to name a few) Maybe next time we are in town we will give it another try. The staff was friendly.
google avatar

Richard H.

Yelp
I got the "Hog Wild Platter". Came with brisket, ribs, sausage, chicken, pulled pork, 2 sides, and 2 pieces of toast. Drink extra. Brisket, sausage, chicken, and ribs were really good. Pulled pork- meh, flavorless. Mac n Chz- dry, pasty, not good. Green beans- yummy. BBQ sauces were good but tea needs more sugar.

Eric H.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere. I was happy to have found this gem! I would recommend and I'll be sure to come back.
google avatar

Alicia B.

Yelp
Friendly great service, looks of options for drinks and food menue. Seating outside even with cars around it was pleasant. Wow this was so tender and flavorful. I approve 100% must try
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
Parking right in front. Sign on door says wear masks please but none of the workers inside wore any!!?? Nothing to brag about in the food. Very average bbq. They were out of chicken and beef brisket. And there were no ribs on the menu. What is bbq if it's missing ribs???
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
Exceptional BBQ ,,,, & yes I am an authority on this matter ! The pork and the chicken were both smoky , tender and moist . The collards were also cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned! But the BRUNSWICK STEW about stole the show . Some of the best I've ever had . I would always get some "to-go" on ALL future visits ! Even the brewed Ice tea and pickles were above average. They already have a huge fan following, so if you visit , come early . Locals say ; They do "sell out " of their bbq meats .... almost every day !!
google avatar

Anastasia W.

Yelp
This was good, until we found hair in our food. The service wasn't all that great. You could tell they didn't want to be there nor didn't care about the service they gave you. The food was good but very small portions for the price wouldn't go back.

Yelp
Website and yelp mention Hours open Monday 11-8. Went Monday at 4:45 and closed. No reason on door.
google avatar

Michael J.

Yelp
Outstanding southern BBQ restaurant. In addition to great beef and pork BBQ the fried Nana Peppers are a special treat.
google avatar

Clay S.

Yelp
Best BBQ I've ever shoved down my esophagus. Here's more words so that yelp will let me post my review, I've said what needs to be said in the first sentence.
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
That mustard BBQ SAUCE! OMG I dream of it! The food came out quick. Highly recommended!!

Veronica B.

Yelp
We do takeout here and it's fairly good. We have not been in a while as we don't live near this restaurant anymore.

Robin K.

Yelp
Beef brisket good side greens and coleslaw good Tasty tender flavorful with Texas toast topped it off Recommend like BBQ

Kaitlyn K.

Yelp
UPDATE YOUR BUSINESS HOURS please! THEY ARE NOT OPEN ON MONDAY even though every website/social media says they are open Mondays. Even their sign on their business says open Monday, but that is simply not true.

Yelp
Sandfly is always a hit! I go to school at South University which is only a 5 minute drive from sandfly so this is an occasional lunch spot for me and some friends and we love it. There's always some action going on here and the food definitely explains why. When you first walk in you're introduced to the menu all along the wall while you wait in line to place your order at the counter. Once you place your order you have the option to go sit around the corner or go sit outside at one of their tables (we like outside the best). Everything I have gotten here has honestly been pretty good. Their pork is cooked very well and has a pretty distinct taste to it that sticks out. Definitely not your average pork! My favorite plate to get is the sliders! I chose the pulled pork, brisket and sausage sliders and the best part is that all of it was only 6 bucks! The sandwiches are à la carte and the sides are a bit pricey, which is a drawback, however a long with the meat, the sides are very good also. Sweet potato fries are always my go to here! I love coleslaw but it was a bit runny here so it wasn't my favorite. All in all this is one of my preferred go to lunch spots in Savannah and I am very excited to try out the Streamline. 'Till next time Sandfly!

Lori K.

Yelp
Best pulled pork and Brunswick stew in Savannah. Minus one star for the woman at the counter who told me I didn't need plastic ware for my takeout order (yes, I did) and interrogated my friend who asked for extra sauce. She acted like my friend had popped in off the street without buying anything. I don't get the reason for such attitude. It's the polar opposite of the southern hospitality I find in other local eateries. I note other reviewers have made similar comments. This needs fixing.

Steve D.

Yelp
Great BBQ. Authentic southern flavors that are not covered in a sauce. Great selection with fast service.
google avatar

Tyler M.

Yelp
Great bbq! We went during COVID times so obviously have to be understanding but the food was awesome and workers super friendly. I got the pulled pork and it came with a Carolina tasting mustardy sauce and it paired great. The Mac & cheese and cole slaw were top notch as well. They also had a pretty good can beer selection of local crafts.

Yelp
Yummy

Yelp
Very disappointing today! I called to place a to-go order at 6::02 pm, sat on hold for five minutes, hung up and tried again at 6:10, another five minutes, called back a third time at 6:17 and stayed on hold until my call was picked up at 6:32. Young girl who answered said, "Hi!", not thank you for calling Sandfly Barbecue, not I'm sorry for your wait, not may I take your order, just "Hi!" When I say I'd like to place an order she begins to go down the list of what they are out of ... ribs, pork, coleslaw ... I asked to be sure I heard correctly that they were out of pork and thanked her and said I guess I wouldn't be placing an order today. I know things happen, people and businesses get busy. We've always had good food and good service, but today's experience was very disappointing.

Kate F.

Yelp
Amazing food, awesome service! My only regret is not grabbing a cheesecake on the way out.
google avatar

Daniel J.

Yelp
Loved this place, it is a great nearby option for food after visiting the Wormsloe Plantation/Historical Site. You get a down south, down home feeling with the professionalism and a satisfied appetite. Make this move, you'll enjoy it. Good: -Buttermilk spuds: Please and thank you. -Sliced brisket sandwich: DELICIOUS -Veggie plate: with fried okra, Mac and cheese, collard greens, baked beans Bad: -none

Yelp
I do have pictures somewhere I'll have to find them but this place was fantastic. it was small and because of the pandemic you could order from the phone and pay .in my case the person inside came out got my credit card and did it all. the food was fantastic they had Brunswick stew which you can't find anywhere and their barbecue was just awesome. I would definitely go back there and recommend people from out of town find it. it's in a small little strip shopping there is parking. They're so popular although there weren't any lines. they run out of ribs so it's a good idea to find their phone number and call and reserve them if you can

Jay E.

Yelp
Came by here on Monday at 7 pm. Closed. Seems like they are never open. Need to update their hours.

Kelly G.

Yelp
We have been coming to this establishment since they opened in Sandfly. Impeccable service and delicious food. Tonight was a horrible experience. From the moment we walked in the young lady at the front was visibly annoyed she had to take our order. She never even greeted us. The food was awful. My baked beans were ice cold and I pleasantly walked up to ask if they could heat them up. The same young lady rolled her eyes, took them from me and walked off. I said, "I'm sorry if that annoyed you" to which she said, "It's okay." I then said, "You don't need to be so unfriendly or rude. I asked nicely about my food needing to be heated up." She mumbled, "Sorry". I am not sure if they have new owners or what, but it was not the Sandfly BBQ we know and love. Probably won't go back. If you don't want to be nice, stay home. We all have stuff we deal with in our lives. She had no idea what kind of day I had and I still managed to smile and be kind. Really bummed.

Brendalee S.

Yelp
Too pricey I know everything's going sky-high but some prices or ridiculous sorry but food is good

Gideon M.

Yelp
I wanted to love this food just based on the reviews I looked at before going to this restaurant. Saying that I was disappointed is an understatement. I love barbecue just as much as the next guy but this food was inedible. The food look great but it tasted salty. It was bathed in salt, as the only seasoning that they apply to the meat or the vegetables. Every single thing we ordered was salty and inedible. Now I spend all this money on food for a family of four and we are all still hungry because we can't eat the food. I hate leaving negative reviews if people sincerely tried to deliver a good meal but this was no effort, this was just bad, one of the worst meals I've ever had, ever. If sandfly barbecue is reading this, please consider the sodium content of all the seasonings that you're putting into your food. This was our first meal with you and unfortunately our very last.

J R.

Yelp
Delicious meats and sides. We had a variety of items: pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, sweet potato fries, baked beans, collard greens. You can't go wrong with anything! Glad we decided to take the short drive outside of Savannah for lunch.

Joel A.

Yelp
Must be popular because they always run out of food. Menu on the wall is creative but no bones listed! Better to call in pickup order!

Yelena H.

Yelp
Oh my!!! The food was excellent!!! This was my first time at this establishment and everything was delish! Those fried jalapeño pepper strips were absolutely mouth watering with the sauce. The brisket and sausage two meat plate my husband had was good too. I had the chicken sliders Mac n cheese and greens. We will definitely be back! Presentation was excellent. The staff was patient with me and friendly. The money for the product was worth it.

Yelp
This is one of those hometown places that they will serve until they are out of their food. The night we went there out of beef brisket. I've been there other times and they have other B's birthday which is pretty good. I recommend sliced. There's easy parking in the front as this is in a shopping center. The baked beans are delicious as well. Mac & cheese is pretty average. French fries were good onion rings or nothing to write home about. The Brunswick stew was not impressive. They do serve beer and they also serve desserts however against first come first serve. Decent local spot with seating outside at picnic tables or inside and booths.
