Sandusky Family Diner

This diner is in the old Big Boy building. I'll start out by saying we don't expect perfection & not nit picky but do expect decency. Overall -Its just ok. Went there for dinner. We been there a few times and it's nothing special but the servers are really pleasant. Food is usually decent Food: -ordered Steakhouse burger 🍔 w/onion rings (those are pictured), chicken sandwhich w/fries, & the Big Fella burger w/cheese sticks. We also added salad bar to the meal. And I forgot to snap a photo of our food, ugh.🤦🏼‍♀️ **All the food was over done. Like OVER done. Chicken was very dry, would not order again & would not recommend. **Steakhouse burger -mushrooms tasted weird, there was a nickel amount of BBQ sauce on it and just not that good. Edible but not good. **Big Fella -more like little fella. It was the best of the 3 sandwiches. I'd say it was good just over cooked. **Fries were not good. Not cispy at all. **Onion rings -those were good actually. That was the best part of this dinner. **Cheese sticks -not bad but not great. Just your normal store bought cheese sticks. They are the thinner ones not the big billowy kind. **Salad Bar -there was enough lettuce for 1 salad 🥗 and they never refilled it the whole time we were there. The mushrooms on the bar looked as bad as they tasted on my burger. **Soups did not look great either but we didn't try them based on how they looked. So can't comment on taste there. Bathroom 🚻 -I went into the women's bathroom and I was afraid to touch anything. The handicap stall toliet was full of sh*t and the other stall looked like someone peed on the floor. Servers -any time we been here they have always been nice and prompt. Today was no different.

They have the best Belgium Waffles in town I always have good service and it's clean

Workers were great, breakfast bar food was not fresh, hot, or good. The salad bar part was good. But for two people each getting the breakfast bar, and each a coffee $32.82 was not worth it. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but this is the second time eating here, and having poor quality food...people are great, food is poor. I'm rooting for you guys...you can do better! UPDATE 11/30/23 After my review the owner reached out to us and expressed his concerns, and was thankful for the feed-back.

Server was very nice and checked in with us didn't like the way the cook had come out yelling at the server when she was clearly helping us she had are drinks and was on way to table.... heard it's the boss so hope he decides to talk to his employees in a more professional manner.... in my opinion

I love the buffet, especially chicken tortilla soup - Yum! Yum! Everything is tasty, colorful, & appetizing. Only one small complaint. A couple of waitresses don't work well. They don't look after all the tables. I forget their names (I'll try to pay closer attention next visit) but they'll stand doing nothing or talking to friends while we're trying to get her attention for more coffee. But, that's just a couple. The rest of your staff is great - friendly & attentive. Keep up the good work!

9/16/2023 Took the family there at 10:30 am for breakfast. Was highly disappointed in the breakfast buffet it was empty ,waited almost 20 minutes for eggs ,hashbrowns,biscuits ,French toast ,pancakes to be refilled. There was 2 biscuits left in buffet ,over cooked almost burnt that you couldn't even cut them with a fork. Two members of our party ordered from the menu ,simple dishes ( fried eggs ,pancakes an sausage,bacon) waited over 1/2 hour if not more for their food . The only good experience was our server Brittany who was running her butt off! Very disappointed for over a $60 bill the food was so-so plus lack of availability an wait time on the food for the buffet was pathetic. Lucky if we patronize this establishment again. Very Dissatisfied customer ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

The service is excellent, save for one who complains while walking through about how horrible the day is. The food was on the cusp of being burned though, but otherwise not too bad. The atmosphere is absolutely appealing to the culture of the area, but would likely be very uncomfortable for non-white visitors. All around, it's decent.

Not that great but not that bad.. I hope they read the reviews and improve.. Service is good but the food falls short... Be great at breakfast and you can't lose. A great biscuit with canned gravy... Sausage gravy is so easy to make from scratch Every breakfast joint should sell it. NOTHING BUT PROFIT.... Toast the toast don't give me warm bread. And send out the french toast only warm... Hot breakfast!!!

Hate to kick a restaurant when they are down but this place has so many negative aspects to date. The Big Bob is gone and you would think with their hands untied from the franchise it would improve? Nope. I'll try to give them slack because of the inability to keep staffed so I will only point out my last meal. Fish dinner. This has been a big hit or Miss over the years but more misses than hits. I ordered for take out the fish dinner which increased to $12 What I received was very disappointing. Two very small pieces of fish about the size of jumbo shrimp. French fries crammed and smashed into a separate cardboard box .About 2 table spoons of coleslaw. The fish was lacking any fish flavor if that makes sense. The fries were soft pull apart but edible and slaw was just eh. I think the owner has to concentrate more on the food and less time bragging to the local friends on how he beat the mandates and the BB franchise. I respected him on the mandates but am not paying for substandard food anymore. Anyone else in the family want to take over?

Big Boy lite. Food was OK. Value in my opinion meh. Not likely gonna head back. Hardly worth a review except to perhaps save someone a bit of disappointment...

We waited patiently for 45 minutes for our food. When it finally arrived the fish was extremely overcooked. There was a lot of breading that was so hard I couldn't even cut it. The waitress never once stopped by to check on us. The only saving grace was the fries were delicious.

Fortunately for the Big Boy Restaurant Group, they are no longer affiliated with this dump. The food here is disgusting and way overpriced, the service is horrible and when we were there most of the staff weren't wearing masks. And let's not talk about the ants and roaches that are all over the place. But to top it all off, the idiotic owner REFUSES to abide by state orders by providing in-service dining. Not only is he harming his employees further, but he's also putting an entire community in danger. Plus, he's created A GOFUNDME to pay all the fines he's incurring himself. It's obvious Troy is a heartless, greedy prick who expects his customers to not only pay for lousy food and service, but his fines as well. I hope the state shuts him down permanently.

If they don't care if the give you covid, they probably don't care about giving you food poisoning either. Go elsewhere and eat better food.

Really unsafe and unsanitary environment. Picked up some food and threw it away because of the conditions.

This place is a dump! Should be condemned. It's filthy and the employees have terrible hygiene. I observed the cook seemed to be intoxicated, loud and incoherent, coughing his lungs out. A server was checking her phone. playing with her hair and eating food off of a customers plates. We ordered food, but left it basically untouched. I am also reporting to the health department. A thorough inspection needs to happen. Health violations everywhere we looked. Vile.

Awesome food & service! Troy takes care of all his customers! Extremely satisfied! Also, try the Dolly Chicken Sandwich, you won't regret it!

We stopped the other day while passing through, and decided to give the diner a try. Unfortunately our experience was not very positive. We were a party of 3 and we all ordered the Slim James. The sandwich was slim all right, the small pieces of ham didn't come close to covering the bun, but that wasn't what was the worst. We all had eaten our 1st half of sandwich when I went to salt my tomato it stuck to the top when I opened it exposing the lettuce, I saw what I thought was rotting lettuce but instead it was covered with dirt, yes dirt and a lot of it. The other 2 people then opened their sandwiches and both of them also found dirt in their sandwiches! So we told our server and though she apologized and turned to go back to kitchen to tell them, she came back and put the bill on table. We all thought we would be compensated but nothing was offered and not another I'm sorry was offered. So my suggestion is not to choose this place and we will not patronize this establishment again.

Good food and great service! We always enjoy coming to this restaurant. We really like their hamburgers. They also have a good salad bar.

Having a restaurant during current times has to be the most difficult company to have running. I could not be happier that they are open and it makes me proud to hear they are standing up to the tyranny of our Michigan government. Thank you

The food was terrible, it was burnt please see the pics yuck, the fries were so over cooked the middle was gone they were hollow, the service was good she was nice when she came back to the table and I told her my food was burnt she told me the cook always does that and she was sorry, really get another cook . Unless you want a burnt crispy dried or burger and I could go on but the pictures speak for themselves go here. I would recommend any place but here.

Don't pay any attention to the negative reviews. I have family that go here every single weekend and they have never had a bad thing to say about the place. This place is very popular and when the owners decided to stay open despite the unconstitutional lockdowns they've been more popular than EVER. As free Americans we have a choice to eat where we want. If the losers who left the nasty comments don't like what's happening here they can shut up and stay in their basement where they belong.

The prices are high for mediocre food. The owner ignored covid precautions and was taken to court. Puts profit over people. Lost his Big Boy franchise, but still trying to sell food resembling Big Boy's, but with different names. My spouse and I took one look at the prices and only ordered a cup of soup apiece- $3.29 each and with a tip it cost $9.00. Ridiculous! Cannot recommend it and will not go back.

Ok, I stopped in here with my Mother and 85 year old Grandmother. They both wanted some special sandwich I cannot remember the name of but it was good they said. My problem with this place is the terrible service. I CANNOT remember the last time I left NO tip. The service was beyond slow with only a few patrons. The guy in the back who I think was the cook was a loudmouth and shared his whole political and views of the town police situation loud enough for all diners to hear. Our waitress while very friendly was slow, disorganized and did not manage tasks at all. And the following is why she found herself without a tip and this review. While my mom and grandmothers food sat getting cold waiting for her to stop gossiping with the other gal and guy she decided to help herself to my moms french fries off her plate before bringing it out to serve them. YES I kid you not. She ate in plain sight my Mothers fries. WHERE IS MANAGEMENT? I had the salad bar which was also terrible however the soup was so so. NEVER again will I stop at this place and I recommend all steer clear. If this is all going on in plain sight what is happening in the back?

yuck... just yuck. what more can one say. the food is bad, but not as bad as they service. give this a pass

I would give it no stars if I could. The wait is ALWAYS way too long. Food is good, but definitely not worth the hour wait. Lots of waiters but never get served for at least 20 minutes. Waiters don't write down the orders so things are forgotten. You should expect to have excellent service in a small town but it's anything but excellent.
