"The Sandwich Bar offers savory, generously-sized sandwiches with many menu items making the fan favorites list, including the pan-sauteed chicken cutlet topped with sharp provolone and long hots, sweet sausage, peppers, and onions, and Philly cheesesteak. If you’re thinking about a seafood-centric sandwich, the authentic Maine-style lobster roll topped with melted butter, fresh herbs, and herb mayo on a toasted bun will entice you to take some time away from the beach for a lunch break." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

Absolutely love this place. The staff is always super friendly and efficient, and the sandwiches are chef’s kiss every single time. Fresh ingredients, great portions, and a beachy vibe that makes every visit a good one. It’s my go-to spot when I’m in town, whether I’m grabbing lunch or just craving something delicious. Highly recommend.

The Best Sandwiches on the Island, a Hidden Gem Sandwich Bar in Ocean City NJ is hands down one of the best spots for food on the island. Tucked away on 33rd and Asbury, it’s easy to miss but trust me, it’s so worth finding. From chicken cutlet sandwiches that are packed with flavor (pro tip: and broccoli rabe for an explosion of flavor) to cheesesteaks, classic Italians, tuna, and even lobster rolls, they absolutely nail it. The tacos, salads, and fries are just as good, fresh, satisfying, and made with care. This place gets busy fast so we always recommend calling or ordering in person right when they open at 11 AM. As soon as that window opens it becomes a full on frenzy and for good reason. Sandwich Bar isn’t just a great sandwich spot, it’s on par with the top restaurants on the island. Seriously, this is beach day food done right.

Ordered multiple sandwiches to try today and everything was excellent! At first we questioned the prices as they seemed a bit high…but the product was exceptional, so I have no problem paying for quality. I’ll definitely be back!

I haven’t been to sandwich bar in a few years so I finally got around to trying it again. The ingredients are always super fresh. The sandwiches are delicious. Cutlet hoagie is my personal favorite. Make sure you get there early though- they tend to run out of stuff during the height of summer because they get very busy. Definitely recommend their sandwiches!

Family Reviews

Google
Quick service and friendly staff. Lobster roll was pure lobster however we each had a tiny bit of shell in our roll but no big deal! Some of the lobster pieces seemed a tiny bit over cooked and would have liked more butter or extra on the side which I will ask for next time. Each roll was $22 and comes with a bag of kettle chips.

I got the double bacon cheeseburger as it comes. Bacon was good. Beef was good. Patties were large. Bun was soft. But it needed something more. Either 2 more slices of cheese or a little bit of mayo or mustard. Otherwise decent.

Google
Best sandwiches in Ocean City. It’s small but mighty. Ingredients are always fresh and the rolls are top notch.

Want a great sandwich place to eat while in Ocean City that easily rivals those back home in the city? Want an old-school sandwich shop the whole family can enjoy? Look no further, the best chicken cutlet in town - from the crispy Italian bread, to the biting sharp provolone, to the peppers and broc rab - simply a delectable explosion of taste and satisfaction - the perfect sandwich. We are also in love with their sumptuous lobster roll - wow! The roast pork is absolutely delicious as well. The fresh cut fries are an added delightful bonus. Our family loves Sandwich Bar. Can't wait to get back down to the shore so we can order again. 💚💜💙

Yelp
First time back at this eatery in three years and was disappointed this time around I recall they were known for their roast pork and broccoli rabe Sammy which they no longer have on the menu.oh no! coming from New England the lobster roll was good but I found the other sandwiches and salads just sub par.don't sleep on the old bay fries though. Definitely not as good as the previous visit.

Nicci G.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to get a lobster roll down the shore. For starters their ingredients are fresh every single time I get a lobster roll. Not only do they offer lobster rolls but you can also get chicken cutlet sandwiches, a cheesesteak, or a hoagie. They also make fries that are incredible especially the old bay ones. If you are down in ocean city and are looking for a lobster roll or a sandwich then this is the place for you. They also offer gluten free options as well! Just remember to bring cash because they are cash only. Trust me, once you have one lobster roll you will wanting to order another one.

Yelp
Before I continue, I would like to say I stand by everything I said in my previous review. The service was really not great the first time around, and I was very disappointed at the price and quality of the lobster roll. That being said, I have come back to the Sandwich Bar multiple times since my first review and my opinion has shifted a full 180 degrees -- I love this place and it truly has become a go-to spot I look forward to hitting whenever I'm in OC. The non-lobster roll sandwiches are tremendous. The seeded rolls are great, and all of the ingredients are awesome. Whether it's the cutlet or the Italian, I really do love all of the sandwiches. Looking forward to trying breakfast and other offerings as well. The service has also been significantly improved after my initial visit early last summer. After many trips I have had no more issues with the phone, the sandwich bar now has a fun website, and the workers are always friendly and welcoming. This series of reviews is honestly a great example of how customers should always give places more than just 1 try -- you never know when it might just be a bad day or a wrong menu item selected. I love sandwich bar!!!!

Yelp
All of these were bomb...phenomenal...10/10. The Lobster roll is the best or the chicken cutlet (add the broccoli rabe). His rabe is the best around. The hand cut fries are incredible too....they are the best fry I've ever had. I've also had the Hot Cutlet...it's a hot n' honey sauce....its BOMB and the tuna hoagie is on point too. Make sure you add the long hots to the tuna hoagie. Best food spot in OC

Yelp
Haven't been here in years but wound up visiting twice on vacation since it was right by the beach! I was craving a lobster roll so figured I'd try it. Now anyone who eats out often knows anywhere you order seafood these days, you are going to pay a pretty penny. This doesn't and won't ever bother me if the food has good quality. The lobster roll was twenty three dollars. It is what it is, I don't care and would order it again because it was DELISH. They gave me a generous amount of lobster that was buttery and not overcooked with a potato roll that had a light buttery toast on it. My wife got the avocado BLT that came on a long seeded roll. I'm allergic to avocado so I didn't try it but she said it was very tasty. I went back later in the week and got a cheeseburger with fried onions and french fries. This will for sure be my spot for a burger. Flavor was there, cheese was ooey gooey, and the onions were cooked perfectly nestled in a potato bun. The fries though?! Come on. They are SO addicting. They are salted perfectly and you get a generous helping. Not too crunchy and not too soft and you can tell it's fresh potato and not just fried frozen crap. Support small businesses and try this place. It is worth it.

Yelp
Had a delicious lobster roll! It came with chips. My husband got a bacon cheeseburger burger and we shared an order of fries. Everything was so delicious!

Chunnie S.

Yelp
My family and I stopped here for lunch. It's a decent takeout spot. BUT service was okay, we ordered 3 lobster rolls each should have came with a bag of chips LIKE SHE SAID! We only received ONE! I'm only complaining because it was a 95$ order. We had to remind them that we ordered sodas as well! 3 lobster rolls 2 hot dogs Fries 4 sodas Total: 95$ Lobster rolls were delicious not gonna lie about that! But 24$ it should have came with at least a side of fries or something. CASH ONLY, I mean if there was a sign it wasn't visible enough. Lucky we had cash. First and last time here...

Ed Q.

Yelp
Absolutely the greatest sandwich I have ever eaten . Great service great selection great staff

Lisa M.

Yelp
Excellent lobster roll. Run, don't walk. Rivals any Maine shack. Great service and nice location.

Lynn C.

Yelp
I would have given it 5 stars, but I'm so disappointed they took my favorite thing off the menu, the chicken cutlet mini. I loved that sandwich and hope it makes a come back!

Tommy J.

Yelp
Tip: Order your food. And if it's not ready when you arrive wait a few minutes and ask again. Otherwise you might get overlooked. Had the lobster roll and chicken cutlet. Lobster roll was very good. Full of lobster with a decent flavor. I would say worth the market price. Too messy for the beach! Chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe was delicious. Large sandwich worthy of sharing. The chicken, long hots, broccoli rabe and roll were on point. Definitely will go back just for that.

Angela J.

Yelp
Lobster roll was great! All cutlet sandwiches were also fantastic. Placed order over the phone and the time given for pick up on a Friday night was not long at all! Sandwich Bar is cash only but they will take Venmo if you do not have cash. Very nice staff. Go there! It's a bit expensive but it's worth it for a good sandwich.

Marisa B.

Yelp
Whoever made our chicken cutlet specials did us so dirty. Chicken cutlet special is chicken, fresh mozzarella, and roasted bell peppers. We got about 2 tiny pieces of pepper on each sandwich, which means it's very dry, not flavorful, and plain. Paid 14$ apiece for a sandwich. 0/10 do not recommend. I need to buy sauce or a jar of peppers so it's not so dry. Very sad I thought this was gonna be so good

Bill F.

Yelp
$27 for two small sandwiches (1chicken cutlet was very tasty but served cold despite me ordering it from their window on a slow, rainy, fall day and waiting 20 minutes for the order to be made, and 1 embarrassment of a cheese steak that was supposed to have fried onions per the menu and me spefically asking for it, but I guess they dgaf), $3 tip to their tip jar, $10 for the counterfeit $10 bill I received as change. So $40 for two very underwhelming sandwiches. I was looking for a Voltaco's replacement, but this definitely isn't it.

Jim S.

Yelp
So every time I walk to the beach I see all these people in front of the sandwich bar ordering food or picking food up and I'm getting kind of tired of that. I thought this was our secret and now it seems more and more people are discovering a gem of OC. Now I have set my friends there and they have never been disappointed. Food is great like the people work there . Give it a try but remember don't tell anybody It's just our secret.

L D.

Yelp
Should have gone to the McD. Order took more than an hour. Did they have to prep the cattle for the cheesesteak and harvest the potatoes for the fries? Ultimately they got the order wrong. Sandwhich lukewarm, fries clumpy. Btw, cash only, no bueno, not cool.

Shelbe S.

Yelp
Food is amazing! staff was pleasant and helpful! great place to grab a quick good bite!

Steve S.

Yelp
I never thought I'd find sandwiches like this in Ocean City. Simply put, I grabbed a burger and a lobster roll. Both were absolutely phenomenal! My mom loved the burger as well, and my 5 year old son completely housed his. This is worth the trip out of your way from wherever you are in OCNJ.

Julianne L.

Yelp
I don't really know why this place has so many good reviews honestly:/ Very very mediocre place at best. We got the Italian hoagie and the pulled pork sandwich. First, the staple to a good sandwich is the roll. The sesame roll they use were stale, too hard and chewy to the point where you really had to rip it out of your mouth after you bit down. They also didn't use normal lettuce...they used some sort of spring mix lettuce rather than the typical iceberg you see on sandwiches. Overall poor execution on the Italian hoagie which you'd think they would've nailed at a sandwich joint. Secondly the pulled pork sandwich was HUGE. Usually I wouldn't complain about having too large of a portion, but this was because the sandwich was so overstuffed to the point where I could not bite into it. I ended up having to eat it with a fork. The pork itself was on the drier side, probably the same pork they use on their other sandwiches but just mixed with bbq sauce. Cole slaw was average. Was the same stale roll that they used on the Italian hoagie so ended up not really eating that anyways since I couldn't bite into the sandwich at once. Don't know if we came on an off weekend or not (weekend after Memorial Day which was NOT busy at all) because they said they were also out of fries and chicken cutlets. Based on this experience though, we are probably not coming back. Better off going to wawa down the street!

Joe R.

Yelp
Excellent sandwiches and excellent fries. Best sandwiches I've had on the island! Chicken cutlet, Italian and cheesesteak all delicious.

Peter M.

Yelp
Ate here twice on a recent vacation to OCNJ. Both times did not disappoint. Food is excellent. Fresh ingredients. Lobster rolls were awesome. Chicken cutlet sandwiches were great. Love their bread. French fries are really good. Sirachi mayo is very tasty. Will definitely be back next time we're in town

Emily L.

Yelp
This place has good sandwiches. They didn't wow me, but the flavors were good. I think the rolls were a little too much bread for the amount of stuff in the sandwich (especially the bacon avocado). The roast pork was very yummy. I hope this place keeps getting business because it is one of the few classic ocean city eateries left. They are understaffed so please be patient (it is impossible to find workers).

Herbert W.

Yelp
decided to try the sandwich bar to see what all the hype was about. ordered chicken cutlet, iitalian and cheessteak so we could get a good sampling. The sarcone roll was good but after that it wasnt anything special especially the chicken cutlet. Very dry and on rhe boring side even wth the broccoli rabe. Price wise they were extremely expensive. 3 sandwiches for 45 bucks. Wont be going back.

Nick B.

Yelp
Good sandwiches. Got Italian and lobster roll. Call ahead to order. Especially if during lunch.

Charles G.

Yelp
Pork sandwich with broccoli rob it was awesome. I highly recommend the sandwich bar Friendly staff great prices

Noelle N.

Yelp
We came and got the lobster rolls, old bay fries, a hot dog, and steak and cheese. The lobster rolls were incredible as well as the old bay fries (which were even a hit with my daughter). The service was great as well. Don't miss out on this gem!

Katharine L.

Yelp
This little sandwich shop is a staple for our family beach vacations. Always fresh ingredients, we've never been disappointed. Every family member has discovered a sandwich they enjoy! Favorites are the lobster roll and cutlet hoagie.

Mia c.

Yelp
This place truly is the hidden gem of New Jersey. You NEED to try it if you're anywhere near Ocean City. I recommend the lobster roll, cutlets, fries and cheesesteaks, but honestly you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. They can get very busy with long waits, but it is 1000000% worth it.

Fran M.

Yelp
First time trying. Food was great. Service was great as well. Would highly recommend the Italian hoagie , lobster roll and fries.

Mary Ellen O.

Yelp
I got big pork, wow, unbelievable. Grandkids got bacon cheese burgers. Everything was down right delicious. Portions are gigantic Cash only folks.

John L.

Yelp
Awesome food! I almost always get the roast pork sandwich. Just like south Philly style with the sharp provolone and the broccoli rabe. Their fries are amazing too. I have had their burger and their tacos too. Did not disappoint. Would recommend them any day.

Jane K.

Yelp
Everything here is good! Definitely one of our OC traditions. We can't finish our vacation without having lunch from here at least once. I wished they accepted credit cards but it's fine since we know to plan for it. Our go to are the chicken cutlet sandwich. The provolone cheese is so good. Kids tried and loved their avocado and bacon sandwich. I can eat their fries all day. Their salads are delicious. Honestly, everything here so good!

Gary L.

Yelp
Good: Very Good and Tasty Sandwiches. Had the Chicken Cutlets that we're fresh and prepared with long hots!! Yum! Not so Good: It's Small Sandwich Shoppe, if you don't mind waiting a little to pick up your sandwiches. Called in my order for 2 sandwiches and needed to wait 50 minutes to pick them up(actually longer weren't ready on time). Good: Food is good and front of house waitress was very pleasant. She was hustling in and out maintaining prompt service at the point of pick up. It's a mixed message. I will try again in the near future and hope for less wait time.

J K.

Yelp
Remember to order in advance and it is cash only. The lobster is delish but it is 2x as much. Instead get 2 regular sandwiches. They are all amazing. This almost literal hole in the wall has the best sandwiches on the Jersey shore. Seriously.

Ryan H.

Yelp
All sandwiches are great. Bacon cheeseburger was unbelievable! Even my kid brother liked it

Mike S.

Yelp
While packing my car in PA I thought to myself man am I hungry. Should I grab a bite in Delco or grab something upon my arrival in OCNJ. I decided to wait after my drive because I can eat Delco food anytime, lets give the shore a shot. I parked my car at my residence for the week and decided to look on Yelp for a place to eat. On my search came the Sandwich Bar, it had 15 reviews and 5 stars across the board. Sold I was walking the 4 blocks to take a gander at their menu. I decided to order the 10 hour roast pork sandwich and an order of the twice fried boardwalk fries. I placed my order and was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes, my mouth was salivating waiting to eat. I pulled up a seat at their counter along the window. While waiting I perused the menu and saw 3 other sandwiches I would really like to try. My sandwich and fries came up and I was ready to eat. The pork was tender and juicy and the roll was magnificent. I learned later the roll came from Bennie's Bread Italian Bakery on 11th and Asbury. The fries were crispy and fresh. While waiting I watched one of the workers cutting the potatoes. They were big enough to share, Needless to say I couldn't finish them. I am glad I waited to eat at the Sandwich Bar. now I just needed to try these other sandwiches. Day 2 I decided to call in my order from the Beach. I wanted the Italian Sausage with onions and peppers. By the time I had walked to the stand there was a crowd of about 15 people waiting to order. I am glad mine was ready to go as I arrived. I have to say it was the best Italian Sausage sandwich I had ever had. it was clearly my favorite sandwich of the week. I like my Italian Sausage grilled and in no gravy. This place did it perfectly. The onions and peppers were grilled perfectly as well. Day 3 I went with the chicken cutlet with long hots. I can honestly say I have never had a long hot, But i generally like hot things so i figured how bad could it be. The chicken was very thin the long hots were scattered evenly with each cutlet. I took one bite and was in heaven, the peppers did burn my lips and gums but I this combo with the chicken and Bennie's roll was awesome. The juices from the peppers were a perfect base on the bread. 3 days in and 3 great sandwiches. I waited a couple of days before going back for sandwich number 4 but I wanted try the 10 hour BBQ pork. I almost did not order it until I read on the menu that it came on a smaller roll. This actually sold me because I wasn't that hungry but I wanted that elusive 4th sandwich. I am glad I ordered this one as well because it was delicious the sauce was very good. I had done it i had tried all the sandwiches that appealed to me, and was very happy with all 4. The wife and my mother in law had the cheese burgers and the breakfast sandwiches and were also very happy with their selections throughout the week. I do not know when the start serving but Lunch usually ends at 2:30 PM, and then they reopen at 5-8 for Dinner. They are cash only and when they are busy you could wait up until a half hour. My advice is to call it in and pick it up!

Paul H.

Yelp
maybe they just messed up or had a bad day. But their cutlet hoagie was horrible. cutlet was so thin you could almost see through it. I asked for light mayo, Instead I got way too much oil on it for some reason. oh and tomatoes were over ripe. get back on your game!

Brian K.

Yelp
Extremely underwhelming... I came here with high expectations after reading previous reviews. The roll is highlight of their sandwiches. They don't put much meat and their cutlets lack flavor. Just ehhh

Lynne R.

Yelp
Wow- the lobster roll is legit!!! Second best one I've had ever... first fave still goes to Neptune oyster in Boston. But I like them both because they're warm and not mayo based. What a great place to have in OCNJ!! Im going to be drooling for this by next year. Pricey but worth it IMO.

Connor D.

Yelp
The cutlets are so good I order one every weekend. I learned the hard way and waited too late to call once and he was sold out. Don't be like me. Get your cutlet early. The traditional cutlet sandwich, cutlet hoagie, and hot cutlet are all amazing. Can't go wrong ever.

Robert C.

Yelp
We ordered here for the first time on Sunday, 4/25/21. I can't believe this place has been here for 10 years and we never really thought seriously about it; it just doesn't look like much from the outside. Turns out the Lobster Roll, Chicken Cutlet Sandwich, and Fries are probably the best in each of those three categories that we've ever had. YES: It's a small place and the hours might be a little inconsistent; YES: It's hard for them to judge demand, and it's so small there's not a lot of on-site fresh storage, so they might run out of things unexpectedly; YES: It's on the expensive side, but in a resort town where a 1200 sqft home goes for a million dollars, that's totally appropriate for the quality of the food. You won't be disappointed.

David G.

Yelp
Got a cheeseburger and egg and cheese sandwich from the Sandwich Bar (3255 Asbury Ave, Ocean City). I found this place on Yelp. It got good reviews and was conveniently located near 34th St. The food was delicious and not too expensive. Will go here again.

John S.

Yelp
The Chicken Cutlet was top tier and the Chicken Cutlet Hoagie was the best thing I have ever tasted

Akin B.

Yelp
Meh this place was good and better after a long, tiring day at the beach, but in my opinion the reason why it's so popular is because of its proximity to the beach and for not really any other reason. Now, that's not to say it's bad but it definitely didn't live up to the hype that I had heard about it. The prices were kind of high, at least for me, which I'm sure for some yelpers isn't a huge deal, but for me, it's kind of important. I tend to look for the value in the places I eat, not just the good taste or the service or aesthetic. But I guess in terms of service and taste, the food took a while to come out but that's to be expected of a sandwich bar of its type, so I wasn't especially worried about it. I'm terms of taste, the food is good and nothing more. But it was good - aka nothing to complain about. Go for it it you're feeling it

Stefanie S.

Yelp
Super good sandwich shop. Outstanding Lobster Roll. Super busy though! Order ahead and don't be in a rush.

Anthony M.

Yelp
I mean. I cannot think of a single place that can do what this place does with a chicken cutlet, sharp provolone, and long hots. It keeps me coming back for more no matter what. I'd walk here if there were no other way.

Mark E.

Yelp
Solid sandwiches, but stop taking orders at 6:30 in the middle of summer is worth a star deduction. Good lunch spot though!

Vicki C.

Yelp
Died and went to heaven when I discovered this incredibly, high-quality sandwich shop a few years ago. Split the tuna hoagie with my 95 year-old mother, during our annual trip in June - unreal - best roll, ever!! Enjoyed chatting with the hard-working chef/owner who is also an artist. Incredible fries and dipping sauce.. we couldn't get enough! Sadly, it was prob her last trip to OC but I will return every summer that I make it down from CT... and will keep spreading the word to local family and friends!

Jim M.

Yelp
They ran out of chicken cutlets and then told us that they no longer do pork sandwiches... plus they were out of most other options, except for a vegie sandwich!
