19 Best Restaurants in Bali, Offering Indonesian Classics, Vegan Tasting Menus, and More

"Sangsaka is hidden down a nondescript road in Seminyak, so it's unlikely that you would chance upon it if you didn't know it was there. The intimate 50-seater is dimly lit and elegantly designed. Order a mix of the small and large plates; standouts include Jimbaran BBQ scallop, grouper with coconut, ginger, and turmeric, and fresh oysters with sambal granita. There's also a tasting menu—nine dishes over five courses—if you're looking to try as much as possible." - Regan Stephens

One of my most favorite restaurants! I’ve been coming here for the last three years, and it never disappoints. The menu stays true to authentic Indonesian flavors while presenting them in a refined, elegant way. The ambience is beautiful, and I absolutely love the bar. The second-floor setting is just perfect. They’re doing an amazing job here, and the food… wow. Absolutely outstanding. Their wine list is also excellent. I definitely recommend this place and will keep coming back!

My husband and I showed up without a reservation but they were very accommodating, even though they had a full house. The food is exquisite. Our waiter was very helpful (and advised us not to get that much food). We ended up feeling more than satisfied! Portions are appropriate. The dishes are presented very aesthetically and the flavors are delicious. I totally recommend coming to this place!

Incredible First Night in Bali at Sangsaka We dined at Sangsaka on our first night in Bali and couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the island’s culinary scene. Opting for the Chef’s Tasting Menu, we were treated to a beautifully curated journey through modern Indonesian flavors - each dish was creative, balanced, and absolutely delicious. The ambiance was intimate yet contemporary, perfectly complementing the innovative cuisine. The wait staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly, adding to the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Every course surprised us in the best way, and it’s clear that the team at Sangsaka takes great pride in their craft. If you’re in Bali and looking to experience a refined twist on Indonesian food, this place is a must. Highly recommend, will be back.

Never imagined I would have Indonesian cuisine in fine-dining format. The presentation of the food and the combination of the spices, meats and veggies were mind-blowing. Taste wise is quite unique and some of the sauce is a bit on the sweeter side so I can’t eat too much of it. Other than that, it’s an amazing place to have an intimate dinner.

Labeled as “modern Indonesian”, this was my first visit. Went for a la carte but they have an interesting tasting menu too. The place itself is nicely decorated but I had different expectations in mind (I also expected it to be bigger). Slightly on the dark side and music can be a level louder. Service is impeccable. Food is on point, with some hits and misses (maybe sone dish a bit too sweet or could have been more spicy). Description below: 1 Star – Terrible: Extremely disappointing. Poor taste, bad texture, and low quality. 2 Stars – Poor: Edible but far from enjoyable. Lacks flavor, freshness, or proper preparation. 3 Stars – Average: Decent and passable. Nothing special, but it satisfies hunger. 4 Stars – Good: Tasty and well-prepared. Shows quality and care, with quite a few standout elements. 5 Stars – Excellent: Delicious, memorable, and expertly crafted. High-quality ingredients and exceptional flavor.

An upscale Indonesian restaurant. Service as mentioned in some below reviews is absolutely impeccable and on point. Dark ambience to give you that warm intimate feel. Place can be quite loud with conversations around you and music due to the size of the restaurant floor however still manageable for a conversation. The Indonesian food was pretty good, you can tell the refinement compared to the street versions of the same dish however just lacked a little punch and vibrancy that street food delivers. A good place for a foreigner not familiar with Indonesian food to start their journey.

Pretty good meal at Sangsaka for modern indonesian cuisine. I loved the innovative take on traditional flavors and felt that across the board, the flavors were quite outstanding. The pearl crudo had good acidity and kick to start the meal, followed by the crab crumpet that had a nice fluffy texture & sweet crabmeat. My favorite being the Ox Tongue, the rice pancake that resembled a tortilla in so many ways had such a really amazing texture; pliable yet slightly fluffy & crisp at the same time. The Lobster Raviolo had great texture in the filling and great seafood flavor from the Laksa broth. Probably just the one dish that I don’t love as much would be the Octopus. Partly I was almost full by then, I did find the texture of the Octopus a bit too mushy and not with the slight bounce that I was looking for. The accompaniments while tasty on their own, felt on the heavier side. Overall I would still definitely recommend anyone to come to Sangsaka as the food is for sure of high quality. Come as a group and you’ll be able to try way more dishes which would make for better experience!

Inventive Indonesian flavors meet fine dining in a cozy, modern setting. The smoked wagyu beef tongue and lobster dumplings are must-tries. Friendly service, stylish ambiance – truly a culinary standout in Bali.
