In Colonial Williamsburg, Food Teaches Visitors About American History | Eater

"I learned about the Sankofa Heritage Garden, a recreated garden plot developed with Michael Twitty that models the kinds of garden plots kept by enslaved people and has been part of Colonial Williamsburg’s efforts (including a colonial-era barbecue) to recover and present Black foodways." - Nick Mancall-Bitel

Beautiful day at the farm. Amazing art work, well kept land and dirt play every Thursday and Saturday 11-2. Ground to table classes as well as options to buy seeds to grow your own herbs. Black owned and a complete place to grab serenity. You are able to pick your own vegetables that are available in season and there’s also a space to buy fresh local honey. If you’re ever in the area, stop by.

I just stopped thru to see the awesomeness that Bro. Duron and his crew creates. Absolutely beautiful!!! Jimmy pulled up greens and lettuce from the garden and gave them to me....this is a community garden. 🥰😍

Nice place to sit and be. Also secret skatepark down the sewer river some (opening in back fence) and cool art 🖼 #skateboardpark

Amazing community space! So many ways for it to be used - definitely check it out if you’re in the area. If you don’t live within walking distance, please be careful where you park. There are some antagonistic neighbors directly next to the orchard space who will try to run you off if they see you park on the street (Covington) by their house and walk to the orchard.

AWESOME! Proud of you Duron! For over 20+ years, I’ve watched and seen you evolve into a True Force G! Sankofa Garden!!!✊🏾 I hope & pray that I can add-on and support your vision of self-determination & economic empowerment! Peace!

Very nice place, they have vegetables for the community to pick up. The art pain around the area is beautiful. Great place to do volunteering job

Yelp
I recently visited Sankofa Community Orchard to learn more about the orchard and what it offers. It's such a great place for the community. Sankofa is a five screen green space with over 80 fruit trees! You can visit Sankofa to learn more about gardening and harvest fresh fruits and veggies. They offer field trips for schools and you can volunteer on the weekends. Such a pivotal addition to many communities in Richmond.
