"No better place for a classic Italian sandwich than this long-running shop, with a few tables on the sidewalk, but conveniently located across the street from the lovely St. Luke’s Gardens. Choose your bread, cold cuts and cheese, and condiments. (Mozzarella made on the premises.) Damn! the sandwiches here are good." - Robert Sietsema

Google
Small shop got the Wednesday special Meatball sandwich paid extra for the fresh muzz. $14.14 Bread was tasty got 4 meatballs on the sandwich. Some would think it’s small but it was enough for me. Filled me up and now I’m sleepy. Would buy again.

Google
Pretty good sandwiches from a really small shop in an area with limited quick lunch options. Pros: Sandwiches have good quality ingredients, bread is always fresh, as long as it’s not crowded the service is pretty fast Cons: The sandwiches aren’t particularly big… you might need two to be full, sometimes it tastes like the vegetables aren’t cooked the same day

Sidar

Google
In my humble but objectively correct opinion, this is the best sandwich shop there is. It's fairly priced and delicious. The other offerings such as cookies and the bagel (don't sleep on it— the Italian bagel especially) are also great. Wednesday meatball sandwiches are also amazing. Will always hold a special place in my heart from fond memories when I used to eat here all the time.

Google
Pretty good Italian sandwich spot in Manhattan, and reasonably priced. We got the sanpanino (which was great) and the prosciutto di Parma (which was alright). It had nice outdoor seating and the homemade lemonade looked great for a warm day.

John Ouellette

Google
Had the number eight... grilled chicken sandwich with mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, it was tasty and hit the spot... this is a cute little sandwich place, cozy with a couple of tables (difficult for large parties)... you can make your own sandwich or order off the menu. All the ingredients looked very fresh. I would go back

Google
Very basic, corner deli quality ingredients served on a dry bread. I was hoping for above average sandwich but, unfortunately Sanpanino didn’t deliver. The sandwich was large and filling and the price was fair but the bread nocked down one star. Overall it wasn’t worth the trip.

Google
Perfect sandwich eatery for a quick bite while up and about in the West Village. The atmosphere is inviting and fun with a nice accent on the Italian-style red & black moto design. The selection of sandwiches includes cheeses, meats, roasted and fresh vegetables. Non-alcoholic beverages and homemade lemonade are available. My eggplant & mozzarella sandwich was delicious, and satisfied my appetite more than enough. There is accommodating simple seating outside on the sidewalk. It really is a lovely place.

Google
Really good. The balsamic vinegar oil dressing combo lights up your tastebuds. A panini made carefully and artistically with fresh ingredients. Mozzarella cut from the bulb is delicious. Highly recommend.

Yelp
There is nothing Italian about this joint as my meatball hero proved on January 15, 2025. Bland, tasteless at 13 bucks. Anytime you have latinos making Italian food it just doesn't taste good or Italian. I will not return here as its touted meatball-on-Wednesday are worse than disappointing.

Hannah G.

Yelp
I took mine to go but i recommend getting it toasted and eating it there. The balsamic added the perfect amount of sour and all the ingredients perfectly matched

Tiffany H.

Yelp
Cute little sandwich spot in the west village. Great tuna sandy. Lot of good drink options too including Italian stuff. Lots of places to sit outside and inside.

Richard B.

Yelp
This is like a really good sandwich if you're in an airport. One piece of each cold cut, very good bread, overpriced

Bryana R.

Yelp
The Sanclassico (#2) is soooo good! I got mine toasted and ate there and it was perfect! The workers are fast and despite it being busy, there wasn't a long wait.

Ka C.

Yelp
I can't rave enough about this little sandwich shop in the West Village. It's a short walk from Hudson River park, so I took my sandwich to eat there since there is limited seating in and around the store. It's pretty tiny inside. You line up, order your sandwich and let the staff know if you want it toasted or not. I prefer toasted but I am sure it also taste great as is! For my first time there I ordered their signature Prosciutto di Parma, which seemed to get a lot of rave reviews on Yelp. The reviews weren't lying as they do give a lot of prosciutto in the sandwich, and it's freshly sliced too. I also got the Arnold Palmer which was ok, a bit more on tea side than the lemonade so it was rather mild. But I will most certainly return again for the Prosciutto di Parma.

Jason H.

Yelp
Delicious - - tried the Sanpanino hero and the sanclassico - - both were masterpieces. Ingredients were freshly made, flavors were bright and brilliant. Also reasonably priced for Manhattan.

Susan H.

Yelp
Really good sandwich my fav in nyc so far, excellent focaccia great ingredients, all around huge fan. Nice location too

Quinn G.

Yelp
For what it is, an Italian Sandwich, it's fine. Meat and cheese are good. Sometimes the peppers are a decent source of flavor. The focaccia is pretty boring. I got it "cold", so definitely go for the panini version. It's pretty hard to find a good sammy in this neighborhood. Good meat and cheese is great, but they don't make a good sammy on their own. I remain on the hunt for a good balanced sandwich balanced with equal parts meat, veggies, and flavor.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Not exactly going to rock your world, but a small and mighty sandwich deserves a small and mighty review. It has a nice amount of meat. It packs a punch seconds after you take a bite. It is layered neatly. It feels more like a snack or a small lunch than the lunch spot it should be. It is only a five minute walk from the subway. It is not too far from the waterfront. It is popular with law enforcement. It is insanely expensive for such a small sandwich. It is not the best option in the city if you want a satisfying meal. It is not meant for anything else but the sandwich.

Natalie V.

Yelp
Came here for lunch and it was pretty busy. A small but cute little shop. I got the San Classico. Meats and cheese were pretty good, the sandwich is great toasted. A little on the small side considering sandwiches, but not too pricey. Great lunch spot!

Doshyyy O.

Yelp
Tasteless and bland only saving grace was the meatball sub but to explain the taste and texture i would have to compare it to chef boyardee baked a bit between to buns. Just don't even try the fresh "lemonade" if you would like to experience it just rub a lemon rind inside your mouth. Btw this is my third time trying this place.

Joseph G.

Yelp
Usually love this place as the ingredients are high quality and one of few places to get good Italian sandwiches. Though, I just got two sandwiches, one of focaccia and the other on a hero, and both were unbearably dry - it tasted like 3-day old bread. It was disappointing and made it unenjoyable to eat. Portions are also rather modest. Will come back again and hopefully they will use more fresh bread.

Cheryl S.

Yelp
Delicious sandwich, lentil soup, but skip the dry chocolate chip cookie. Always busy but fast service. A few tiny tables inside and several more outside. I'm a repeat customer

Nick N.

Yelp
Fantastic food very fresh very helpful staff. I'll definitely be eating here again. Would you recommend anyone who is interested in getting a sandwich in the area

John E.

Yelp
A simple sandwich with good ingredients! Always tasty and fresh! Fast and cheerful service! The paninis are my favorite!

Johnny A.

Yelp
Excellent Panino Spot Absolutely Recomendable. Soup is Excellent. Service is Cordial.

Peggy W.

Yelp
While All'Antico Vinaio and even Faicco's and Pisillo Italian Panini Chelsea are in a league of its own in NYC, I absolutely love the paninis at Sanpanino. There are salads and pastas available, but Sanpanino is best known for their Italian sandwiches. You can get one of the pre-made options or build your own, on a variety of breads (including GF). I typically opt for the San classico (sopressata, mortadella, mozzarella, roasted peppers, basil, olive oil, balsamic), Delicious, hot, and crispy on the outside. Takeout only. The prices are fair for the West Village, and it 's filling enough on most days.

Michele G.

Yelp
Cute little walk in shop with excellent sandwiches. Great quality incredits- got a number 12 which was a range of meats, mozz, etc. Was delicious and good size.

Ken E.

Yelp
Haven't even had my sandwich yet but annoyed. While he may think that he was being quiet, I clearly heard him pass down the line that my sandwich was for the "Chino". Brought my friends to try the spot so now I look the fool.

Tessa C.

Yelp
Delicious hot fresh Italian paninis made to order. Would go here pre-COVID with coworkers for a lunch. My favorites are the grilled eggplant and the classic mozzarella with tomato. Having the panini grilled makes the mozzarella so gooey and smooth. I usually order a half sandwich as I eat modest portions. When I want a bit of variety- i get the half sandwich and soup combo. But if you have a heartier appetite then go for the whole sandwich. Outside of their great paninis they also have a good selection of salads available for purchase. All of their panini and salads are customizable. They also have a breakfast menu too. Limited outdoor seating - bunch of stools in the open air- which was perfect for us. We avoid closed outdoor structures during the pandemic.

Gab G.

Yelp
Sanpanino makes a good sandwich! The Prosciutto Di Parma was great. It had tons of prosciutto and the mozzarella was really quality, too. Next time I want to try the grilled chicken or grilled eggplant.

Chunjai K.

Yelp
They are better! The sandwich guys are more happy and they make the place more welcoming. Today we had Glardino Salad with grilled chicken and #14 Speck melt (sandwich). Food is always good, coffee is regular. It was good to have a place to eat real quick when you don't have too much time in the morning.

James H.

Yelp
Customer service is horrible. extremely slow, and don't listen to a word you say when you make alterations. When you unwrap your sandwich, it's rarely what you ordered. It's not uncommon for the employees to give your sandwich to someone else, make you wait 20 minutes, then ask what you'd like to order. Complete disarray.

Rebecca B.

Yelp
This place is in my neighborhood and I've eaten here 30+ times. I love that they have high quality ingredients, and the focaccia is homemade, light, buttery and crispy. I've tried 7-8 different sandwiches, but I always come back to the #1 extra toasted with balsamic vinegar to dip it in. The sandwiches can end up on the pricier side if you add extras, and they aren't huge. But they're such high quality Italian classics, I always feel happy and satisfied after a sandwich, chips & a homemade lemonade. The lemonade is very tart, hardly sweet, which I like. You can also ask for a half and half with tea. Mozzarella is freshly made, tomatoes are freshly sliced. Again, the focaccia is extra special and one of a kind. The workers are quiet and don't offer any charms. When someone makes eye contact behind the counter, yell out what number you want, move to the register, pay for your meal. The store is extremely small and can get very busy, so I generally wait outside and someone will pop out and give me my sandwich when it's ready. Keep in mind, they do catering, etc so I have waited 15 minutes for my sandwich to be made before. Call ahead if you have time constraints, especially if you're getting it toasted. They have some outdoor cafe tables you can sit at; very basic but a nice option. I'll usually choose to go down to the Hudson and have a picnic instead. Highly recommend this place for the quality & consistency of their sandwiches.

Jennifer R.

Yelp
I've ordered sandwiches from Sanpanino a few times. They're Delicious! I also find the prices to be amazingly good for the west village. The ingredients always taste fresh and the portions are great too.

Sarah A.

Yelp
I was in the area looking for a sandwich place. I came across this on yelp. It was fairly close so I went. I was surprised to see the line was out the door. I was sure at that moment the food had to be great. So I joined the line. When I saw the fresh toppings for the sandwiches including a variety of breads, I was so excited. They were pretty fast making the sandwiches also. On top of the wall there's menus with different choices of sandwiches to choose. I was happy to see a veggie option. So I ordered an eggplant sandwich with no peppers no cheese and tomatoes. It also had other tasty items on it. I asked for it hot. I asked for a different bread. It was so delicious. They also have homemade lemonade and iced tea there which I picked a iced tea. You guys should check this place out if your in the mood for a fresh tasty sandwich. There service is good but the place is a bit small. Not a place for large crowds.

Ben C.

Yelp
So over priced the grilled chicken sandwich is mad Small and toasted well at all.And they don't take there time cooking it.

Hee Yeon K.

Yelp
NEAR BY? Get a sandwich from Sanpaninos. You will never go anywhere else. Get your sandwiches hot and toasted, because although the ceiling of your mouth will hate you for that, you simply could care less because of the deliciousness. From variety or meats, daily homemade soups to different kinds of sandwich ingredients varying from grilled eggplant and different style of tomatoes, they got their game. Everything tastes amazing. Go Sanpanino!

Annie A.

Yelp
Everything is good. Especially with prosciutto. The fresh lemonade will round out any meal.

Gabriela C.

Yelp
Came in here on a whim because grandma was craving a roast beef sandwich, and boy am I glad that we did! Their focaccia is absolutely incredible. We ordered the #2, #6, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich on their Italian style bagel, and the roast beef sandwich. Everything was finger licking good. I wish I could buy their fresh mozzarella by the pound! Also worth mentioning is their lemonade and hot cocoa, both were hits!

Raushan M.

Yelp
I got a grilled chicken sandwich on a gluten free hero from here for lunch and was not disappointed. I really loved the pesto on the bread and the chicken was delicious and not too dry. The only thing was that the GF hero was pretty small, so I felt like if I had gotten a regular hero it might been bigger. However, I love to see gluten free options be included anyways, so no complaints!

Angel L.

Yelp
I wish I could give a 5 stars but my cheese was still cold inside the sandwich. The focaccia bread is fresher then Your regular deli panini otherwise it's the same you just pay more here.

Alejandra M.

Yelp
delicious sandwich & fast service. from a wide range of menu to the nice outdoor seating, this place is perfect stop for lunch

Luke B.

Yelp
This was really good and made with fresh ingredients. The service was quick and I was in and out within minutes. No place to sit inside; I took my sandwich to go.

Sacheen V.

Yelp
Great little spot in the west village if you want a delicious sandwich and some soup to warm you up on these cold frigid days this is the spot to come to!! Sandwich was delicious. Very satisfying and filling. Will be back

Philip S.

Yelp
This is no All'Antico Vinaio, but the paninis at Sanpanino are good for NYC standards. The bread is grilled crispy with a fluffy interior, and the sandwiches themselves are tasty and flavorful. I got a Sanclassico which includes sopressata, mortadella, mozzarella, roasted peppers, basil, olive oil, and balsamic. I went to the elementary and middle school across the street from 2002-2010 and this was the coolest spot to eat. Too bad back then we weren't allowed to go outside for lunch, but I'm glad I got to come back and eat here for the memories.

Ginevra A.

Yelp
Located nearby my office I found this small but cute sandwich shop on Hudson streets. The price range from $9-12 depending on what is inside the sandwich. I chose the one with fresh mozzarella and prosciutto di Parma. They cut the prosciutto fresh in front of you which was great. It is served on focaccia. I gave a 3 because of the focaccia. The focaccia was soft but it had no salt. I like a bit of oil and salt on top as you crunch the prosciutto and mozzarella. The staff was extremely nice.

Lucy X.

Yelp
I guess if you wanted something quick to satisfy your Italian sandwich craving this could be it. But I ordered the Prosciutto di Parma and the bread was stale and the ingredients didn't taste the freshest? It was edible but surprised of the quality given their speciality in paninis.

Annie G.

Yelp
Great Italian sandwiches. A lot of variety in selection, fresh ingredients, great portion sizes and fast. Only downside i feel the bread quality could be better.

Akansha B.

Yelp
Such a wonderful little sandwich shop! I like deli sandwiches but the portions are absolutely huge - hate the idea of eating a huge chunk of meat in a bland sandwich. Ironically enough, unsure of what I would get I opted for the grilled eggplant sandwich. Everything was amazing about the sandwich I tried! From the fresh mozzarella cheese that was used to the bread. It was definitely a filling lunch for me! Well worth the price and great experience. Can't wait to come back here for some more fresh mozza sandwiches

Shaji K.

Yelp
Looking for a different lunch stop than the usual; walked a little farther down Hudson to this tiny spot. Your basic Italian-style sandwich shoppe with limited seating and lots of deli options. Order near the glass and pay at the register while waiting for your food. Decided on the #3 Grandpanino "hot" ($9) and an Arnold Palmer ($4). Sandwich is assembled and pressed in about 8 minutes, so fairly quick turnaround time for lunch. Sopressata and ham are thinly cut, pairing well with the roasted peppers and provolone. Cheese isn't as melted as I'd have liked it to be, but enough crunch on the sandwich to call it a panini. Arnold Palmer isn't too sweet; refreshing on a hot day. No frills place, just say your order and get on with it. Lots of baked goods sold here as well, worthy of a return trip.

Heather C.

Yelp
Awful. Stale, dry focaccia bread with three thin slices of chicken breast with rude service adding insult to injury. I hope the service and bread are better on the weekdays? This would make up for the price tag which one expects in the West Village... Still the product and service were inferior to other shops in the area charging the same or less. The people working behind the counter were much friendlier to the couple who came in right after me so perhaps they prefer a certain clientele.

Juliana S.

Yelp
Really good sandwich shop. The most authentically Italian one I have found in NYC, except maybe Alidoro. But the prices and location beat Alidoro for sure. If you work in the area, it's a good spot for an affordable lunch. Most sandwiches are around $10 and will be very filling. Way better option than some $20 chopped salad or a deli sandwich that's gonna cost you $8. Might as well spend an extra $2 and get the good stuff. I had the vegetarian and the sanclassico. Both were excellent. I keep an menu at my desk. Pro tip: take your sammie to go and eat in the church courtyard across the street. It's gorgeous! A perfect Tuesday lunch break when you need to forget about the emails and excel sheets.

Brita L.

Yelp
Amazing sandwiches and gluten free bread option! The ingredients are super fresh, it never disappoints!

Michael C.

Yelp
Terrible sandwiches. Maybe because it was a Sunday? We had two different breads and they both were dryyyyyy, nothing special about ingredients, and Turkey was most definitely not a premium brand.

Emily D.

Yelp
Cute little sandwich shop. They do have a few tables but I would assume most people grab their sandwich and go like me. I came in around 1:30 on a Monday and there was no line but it started to quickly form after me. I ordered a #9 which is called the Forte e Dolce Sandwich. It has Hot and sweet capocollo, provolone, roasted peppers, jalapeno peppers and extra virgin olive oil and lettuce. I got it pressed which took a few extra minutes but was totally worth it! I'm sure I'll be back soon to try the other sandwiches they offer as well!

Bonnie G.

Yelp
I love supporting and eating at this independently-owned, always fresh, Italian panini spot. My go-to for the freshest, fluffiest Italian bread and mozzarella and basil. I always get the number one caprese or number two with soppressata. Sometimes they don't press/melt the panini enough - if they don't, ask them to redo it and they will.

Lauren B.

Yelp
Sanpanino is among one of the best sandwich places in the WV. Their food is fresh, homemade in front of you and reasonably priced, and the staff are friendly and kind. Breakfast is fantastic, sandwiches are great, their soup is hands down better than Brodo next door... basically there's no reason NOT to go here if you're craving some no-nonsense Italian sandwiches.
